The 5.6 is bullet proof. Watch the manifolds (cracks), engine mounts, pinion and axle seals, heater control valve, leak from the thermostat housing, interior plastics and HVAC actuators. Nissan Master Tech for 4 years.
Any tip to solve a slow leak from the passenger side front axle? G37x, but the hydraulic rack and axle design are similar (I think). 120K miles in Canada's rust belt.
Definitely! I love these trucks had a 2008 and bought it at 78,000 mi. I had it about a year and a half and had to do the manifolds, the thermostat housing, the pinion seal basically everything you listed minus the mounts and HVAC
I now have my Dad's 2004 Nissan Titan SE 4x4. My folks bought it new in 04, and my Dad passed in 08. My Mom loved the truck, and kept it, garaged, and rarely drove it but did enjoy taking it up through the Owyhees. I sold my last truck last year and asked her if she wanted to sell me the Titan. She said no, she still enjoyed driving it, and fair enough, I was using it looking for another truck. On my birthday my Mom said keep it! She does want to drive it now and then, so we swap cars, and I drive her Altima for a few days until we swap back. This beautful 04 Titan finally turned 50,000 miles a few months ago. In 2023! She looks almost new and drives like it too. I'm pretty deliriously happy, and you can't beat it was my Dad's last truck!
I bought my '04 Titan new in August 2004. It's got 210,000 miles on it and I plan to keep it as long as I can. Both of my kids learned to drive in it and I can't imagine letting it go.
as a total nissan hater for their modern vehicles, I had to buy my parents a cheap farm truck after their GM threw in the towel. I found a Titan and at first I wanted to throw the idea away, but after some research, it was the only logical choice. Three months in, it's been a wicked wicked truck. Very high mileage, and I had to fix a few small things that took an afternoon, but man. Impressive truck. Miles better than their 08 Sierra was with half the mileage.
My dad bought a new Titan back in 05 years later I bought it off of him. I put long travel on it and I drive it extremely hard and it never gives me issues just hit 270k miles really an underrated truck
My mom had an Armada she got new in 2011. 5.6 liter V8. Clocked 165k on it towing and going on long trips from Ohio to SC and Maryland numerous times. Never had a mechanical issue. Great powertrain
Had the same year. I loved the truck, but the 9500lb towing was a myth. The engine was up to it, but on hills the transmission was a complete let down.
@@OOICU812only one worse was the Toyota 5.7,,, 😂😂. They couldn’t get fuel economy down pat, but after 2008 the Tundra was best in reliability and Nissan Titan next. With the Tacoma and the Frontier, reliability was near identical but often the Frontier came out on top.
@@freeman48083 I was considering one to pull a relatively light, but enclosed trailer (8' tall). Seems like the aero would absolutely crush me on fuel with one of these trucks.
I had 2004 titan for 8 yrs. only had to charge AC twice no other issues. Then 2016 F150 for 18 months. Broke twice. Went back to 2010 Titan 2 yrs ago. No issues again. I would recommend fixing leaks, change all fluids, replace ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links. Change wheel bearings if needed. Clean and rust proof underside.
I bought a 2004 Titan with 260,000 miles for $2500 three years ago, it has already 335,000 miles and has take me to many different places here in USA and out of the country as well, I have drive it through mountains, deserts, beaches, snow, rain, big cities traffic, roads full of path holes, etc. I have driven it for more than 22 hours and 1,500 miles continuously four times already. I have used it for camping, hunting, construction work and family stuff. I bought it to be my beater truck and has been one of the best trucks that I have ever owned!, and take this from someone that owns Tundras and Tacomas. I have of course replaced parts even before they break just to have a peace of mind and make sure that won’t leave me stranded on the middle of the road, manifolds, all four catalytic converters, suspension parts and many other things but I have never needed to touch the transmission or engine!, actually engine and transmission feel powerful and like new. My goal is to see 500K miles on this truck and Im confident that it will happen.
14:06 the rear axle locker was a late 2004 production item. They didn’t start putting them in until April-May 2004, so a lot of the 2004 trucks don’t have them. Every Titan 4x4 Off Road 05-08 has the locker, but it’s kind of a bad design. It only has two spider gears, so it’s very prone to breaking when used locked. In 2009, they went to a much stronger 4 spider gear configuration that works well. In 2016, they ditched the Dana 44 rear axle and moved to a custom AAM unit, which works even better.
You guys should have noted that the front seats flatten out with the back seats to make a place to lay down. Also the back doors open all the way up. A friend had one and we were able to put a 9 drawer dresser in the back with the seats up. Amazing amount of room.
I like the Tundras & Titans not as high-selling vehicles but as unique alternatives to the American Big 3 players. Something to be said about having automakers having their own flavor rather than the ‘norm’...
I have two Armadas from that era. My 05 is 2wd and has never had an issue out in the farm pasture. Never had an engine issue or trans issue. The exhausts rotted off both and some interior stuff breaks but the ac is ice cold on both and they are tanks. 200k is nothing for them.
As someone who owned two of that gen. They were full size not 7/8 like you heard. And were beating the competition at that time but many didn't buy them. That 5.6l was powerful and could easily out tow the others. They were the first to have the rail system in the bed and the storage box.
Everyone thinks that the Gen 2 Tundra made the Big 3 change their ways, the Gen 1 Titan came out in late 2003 and SMOKED everyone's half-ton offerings. It was actually the Titan that made Toyota and the Big 3 change their game. Unfortunately, Nissan lost that spark and ruined the Gen 2 Titan. And yeah, "7/8th" was the Gen1 Tundra, another pretty good truck!
@@jasonw8124 yep! I loved those trucks especially my 2012 pro4x. The newest pro4x looks is an improvement. I didn't like the gen 2 release look till the most updated ones.
@jasonw8124 100%. I've always said we have the trucks we have today now because the 2004 titan was so groundbreaking and caused the Big 3 to up their game.
Not underappreciated by me. I have had all the big 3 but when I went to nissan I never looked back. I have an 08 cc se and a 13 cc sl 4x4. Currently the se has 202k on it and I still drive it. It will be a project truck soon. I bought my 13 last year with only 27k on it. Reliability and dependability have never been an issue for me with nissan trucks and I have owned 4 of them.
I really like my 07 crew cab Titan 4WD. 270k miles now. Pulls my 25-foot travel trailer well, and adding cold air intake and dual exhaust helped. It has four-inch Rough Country lift with 33-inch Toyos for the AZ 4WD roads. If my only frustration has been the heater defrost mix, that is a good thing. The engine is still strong, and with the cost of other trucks these days, I will drive this thing forever.
I had an "04 Titan bought new in "04. It had off road package and a rear locker. I put over 220,00 miles on it working and then sold it for $1000. Still see it driving around sometimes! Great truck but had some brake and rear axle problems.
That’s what they were known for early on. Especially rear axle issues. But a relocation of the rear diff vent usually solved that issue with the vent getting clogged and blowing seals, or the spider gears break. But they’re good trucks for the money I think.
I bought a 2012 Titan with 200K miles for $6500 a few months ago for my sons first vehicle. I’m amazed how durable this thing is. Very fun truck for sure.
I bought a 2014 Nissan Titan Pro-4X (crew cab) a few months ago with just 63k miles on it, lifted, with a full tow package. Paid just $21,500 for it and loving it! It doesn't get great gas mileage but it is an awesome ride. We are planning on buying a travel trailer to live in full time since housing is so expensive now and needed something to haul it with.
I used to have a 2010 titan, I miss that truck a lot, it just could not tow enough for what I needed, but its a good truck, if you are reading this and considering one, don't hesitate they are good off road, comfortable, powerful, and are a good family hauler, and are quite reliable, mine needed no more then basic maintenance, and to add, maintaining one and doing all the fluid changes yourself was super easy. Great find Brendan, and those sunglass holders make great taco holders 🤣🤣
I have a 2015 Nissan Titan SL 4x4 and run a Large enclosed trailer almost daily. Im at 244,609 currently and the only issues ive had was the starter went out!? So not a huge deal. I still love it and so much so i bought the newer 2018 for me and crew runs the 2015!!! Ive had a few chevy/gmc z71, f150s, and my titans are MUCH better trucks in my opinion and experience. Also have a 2005 Pathfinder Nismo with 324,368 and it still drives like a champ, jist did suspension upgrade, arb bumper, brakes, and tune up! I love them
I have a 2008 Titan that I've been driving for at least 10 years. It will do much harsher off roading that what these guys did. It'll cruise the highway at 80 mph, smooth as can be. Cruise at 65mph with a 19 foot travel trailer. Lots of power from the 5.6 V8, It has done everything I've ever asked of it. Gas mileage sucks, well about 15mpg highway, unless I'm pulling the camper, then its 10mpg. Best truck I've ever owned. Before the titan I had a Frontier, and before that, a Hardbody. Been driving Nissan trucks for 35 years.
I have a 15 pro 4X and paid $32k with only 42k miles and I love it. My best friend is a Nissan master tech and recommend it (the 16 and later not so much). The thing about these is they stayed the same with small improvements year over year which is how it should be.
I bought my 13 Pro4x in Nov of 16 with 44,500 miles for $25K...very happy so far. I need to replace pinion seals, did the rear diff breather mod and had to replace a lower control arm (have a Four Wheels Campers pop up on fulltime).
I have a 07 Titan with 230,000 miles. Only major repair was replacing the radiator. The truck has been a highway beast, a daily grocery getter and an off road player. Best truck/vehicle I’ve ever owned. Can haul anything, looks cool and smokes most modern trucks up I-70 in the Colorado Rockies.
@@bldontmatter5319 NO dumdum, a new truck buyer spends 80k+ and has iPad size touchscreen and all kinds of other crap, the first gen titan has none of that superfluous junk. If by new truck buyer, you mean he didnt buy an american square body, then idk wtf to tell you, this isn't the 70s anymore...
@@DJ_Underwood An EcoBoost F150 lost vs my titan bc of his governor and a NA F150 got its doors blown off, also my 2011 Z71 couldn't touch the Titan I have now, stock for stock. Stock for stock, the years the first gen were built, not much could touch them. Now trucks are more powerful, but they also weigh more than the titan, so idk ..
Significantly larger cab than my 06 Silverado. We bought a 2012 Armada for my wife based upon a friend’s recommendation. It’s been bulletproof so far and regularly tows a 3 horse trailer. Even the auto leveling suspension still works! And when rust fully consumes my Chevy it’ll be replaced by a Titan.
I bought a new 2005 Titan 4 dr XE model and still have it. It has none of the "extras" you see in the video as it is a base model but still well equipped. The engine is bullet proof and have some issues but I keep up with them as it is cheaper to repair than buying a new or used one. Anyway, funny story, when I went in to buy my first set of tires (mounted on the original steel wheels) the tire guy looked at the original tires from Nissan (Bridgestone) but it was a different tire size than in his catlogue. What he found out was that my truck was the "commercial" version of the Titan. The salesman never told me that and I don't think many people know they have or had a commercial version. It has a real heavy duty suspension too. I think the tires are like 10 ply and can hold 70psi. Of course I don't drive with that much air but it is some workhorse of a truck. She's a keeper! Nissan never advertises the Titan and they don't market it very well. You load the bed and it hardly squats or not at all
Best reason to get an older truck for a 4WD is that it isn't computer controlled like todays off roaders. The Titan was the best deal when it came out. And still remains a good deal.
Yep.. I still have my 2007… exhaust manifolds aside… mine has dual exhaust, tuner, 2.5” level kit and new transmission. Runs like a champ. Good power and off road ability. I recommend one of the first gens to anyone
On the Nissan you guys mentioned about the exterior rear storage box being one of the first. Actually it was done by Ford and GM in the 60/70 vintage trucks as an option. I wish that more manufacturers would add this to there trucks in the current time. We know that Ram has their storage in the side of the bed while the Ridgeline has the trunk feature.
I have an 04 Titan, 4/4 crew cab, tow package , 265 thousand miles runs perfectly!! Everything works! I have did mantience regally, but I can say it’s bn an excellent truck for what I paid for it! It’s now 20 years old, an runs like it did new! Again I maintain my vehicles regularly! Engine has never been worked on! Or transmission!! Only starter alternator ect! Very reliable!
My dad bought his 04 brand new in 04, still driving it, i am currently on my second 2010 (first one totaled by an idiot), and i love it. It may not be as fancy as the big 3 in some regards, but the engine alone, worth it.
Still driving the "04" I bought brand new. I've always been a Chevy guy but these trucks are tuff as they come and have a whole lot less problems to deal with than my Chevy's do. Highly recommend them...
I had a 2008 Titan and absolutely loved that truck. It definitely had some issues nothing too major other than the exhaust manifolds which was expensive. Other small things, but the way they drive and handle etc it is definitely a driver's truck 🍻
Back in the late 60's you could get the ford trucks with a utility drawer in the bottom front right of the bed with the camper special options. You could get one where the spare tire in the front left of the bed fully enclosed.
A friend has a 2006 Nissan Titan with the extended cab/short box 4X4. He put a 2" lift kit on it, and went up to a 33" tire. He has close to 200K miles on it with no significant mechanical issues. His only complaint is the fuel economy--about 12-18 mpg, about the same as a V8 Tundra. He uses the truck for work and regularly drives some really nasty 4WD roads with no issues.
@@IIeMachineII that is about right mpg. I bought a 2023 tacoma TRD off road truck on 4/29 and got rid of it because that crappy 6 speed automatic transmission driving around innnortgesst Tennessee was barely getting 15.5 to 17 mpg. So I traded it in on a 2023 colorado trail boss which has 275/65R18 mud terrain tires. So far over the past 2 weeks Colorado Trail Boss truck has been getting around 18.0 to 21.3 mpg driving around on interstate 26 and 81 in the tri cities. The terrain on both of those interstates is slightly rolling with only having to cross a 2,000 foot elevation going over the saddle of baysmountain ridgeline for about 4 mile stretch on interstate 26.
I had a '68 F-100 that had the toolbox in the side of the truck bed, on the passenger side, near the door. I can definitely say Nissan was not one of the first to do this lol.
Last summer i picked up a 2012 Pro4x king cab with only 89k miles. I'm loving it so far. Feels just right, like I could go across the country and never get tired of drivng it.
Had mine 08 for many years got rid of it bye the time it got too 300,000 miles it was becoming a money pit. Motor and tranny were solid tho !! No issues just everything else was. Lots of leaks lol, exhaust manifold cracked, rear axle seals leaked, upper lower ball joints replaced, wheel bearings replaced, it was shutting off while driving just a sensor issue, oil leaked, coolant leaked…. Still sold it for a decent price too after everything was fixed
The 5.6 is a masterpiece, best V8 available on the market. It has 6 bolt mains! Some blokes out of New Zealand, where they race these engines said the first time they tore down an OEM engine they swore it was built for motorsport. I own a 2006 Titan. Trans is excellent as well, which is nice considering its a JATCO, makers of the garbage CVTs in nissan cars. There were a lot of cheap parts used, these were the cheapest trucks in their class. The seats are cheap, the shocks and struts were garbage, interior of lower quality, sheetmetal really thin, etc.. The rear diffs had problems on early models, lots of axle seal leaks. But overall, for the right price , can be a great truck bargain. Im keeping mine forever. Get JBA headers, dynomax exhaust, transgo shift kit and you got yourself a very respectable cruiser.
These have an actual dana 44 rear locker too which was missing from most of competition at the time. I just a bought a 23' Nissan Titan Pro4x loaded for only 59k and it's so underrated compared the competition as well even today especially at it's price point!
@sierratough4934 I looked on the titan forums they all said they came with open diffs. I wanted to trade my tundra for a pro4 x titan but I didn't based on there replies
Have you had the timing chain looked at ? Or is it a no issue thing? Thanks. I have a 2006 with 95000 miles on it. Yeah there’s some things I need to do but are your every day up keep 👍
I have an 09 Titan and I love it. It's a beast! Great trucks and definitely unique. It's not a typical chevy, Ford, or Ram out there, but it can compete in its class.
It was the first gen Tundra that was "7/8th" size, the Titan was the largest 1/2 ton through 2007MY. I have a 2007 Titan and the window sticker even stated that fact. It wasn't until the Ram megacab came out that it lost that claim. Also, I love my truck, it is getting really old now, but it has treated us so well. Super reliable, it's our road trip machine, tows our boat, and I had a TruTrac rear diff put in it and we do some pretty tough (for a long wheelbase crew cab) off-roading in it. Just basic maintenance, blower motor resistor, radiator cap, driver side power window motor. That's been it. I'll cry when we finally get a new truck, but I won't be getting another Nissan, the Gen 1 was special and Nissan is a lost company. I'll be getting a Toyota next.
These things seem to last forever. Where I live there’s a bunch of them being used by landscape crews. Those trucks still work hard every day and don’t seem to give up. A mechanic I know said the engines were garbage but he didn’t elaborate on what the issue with them was.
I love Titans and am on the market for a 1st generation. The 5.6 is a workhorse and sure with proper maintenance it’ll do what I need with ease and provide many years of service
I have a 2014 Armada. I love this suv. It has been a joy to own, and i can't bring myself to trade it in. With the interest rates and costs of vehicles, it's a bit scary to even look. I've had my armada for 3 yrs and never had an issue. Lol. The 5.6 is a great motor. Lol. I wish the mpg was better, but it's still a good-looking Suv, so im thinking why let it go.
I drive a Crew Cab Titan with 289,000 miles. I'm a self employed handyman. I have mowing route 2 days a week towing a heavy landscape trailer and it carries generator, compressor, and all manner of tools depending on workload on days I'm not doing a mow route. Back seats fold up and I put my Craftsman Trade Stack (like Packout) modular tool cases in back when I need bed open for building material. The truck is very smooth and comfortable for family duty on weekends and vacations but is also very stable with a heavy load or a loaded trailer. Usually you have stiff and stable or soft and comfortable with trucks Ive used for work over the years (all makes but toyota) That truck is perfect for a modern plumber especially if he has modern modular storage boxes like Trade Stack or Packout to quickly change out what he has on the truck for different jobs. I hope this plumber friend of yours has had as good fortune with his truck as I with mine. And yes, I have a medical needs child so I get tight budget while also being a small businessman
I have an 06 Titan King Cab two door, it is a two-door cab, with the larger bed, Off Road edition. I am the original owner, with 80K Miles. It is a fantastic truck. I live in SW Arizona, so the paint and interior are sun baked, and weather beaten, but no rust!! The Off-Road edition came with 4x4, a beefed-up suspension, skid plates, and a rear a locking differential, solid off-road driving with good tires. Tip Top engine and transmission. At the time I shopped it against the Toyota Tacoma Sport Truck. The full-size Titan was about $5000.00 MSRP less than the much smaller Toyota Tacoma with a 6-cylinder engine. I have never regretted going with the Nissan Titian over the Tacoma. Sadly, the little toolbox cubby wouldn't open about 10 years ago. It's a time capsule now. 🤣
bought my 2006 Titan for $6k(CAD) and it now has 352km(220k miles) and still feels rock solid for a budget offroader, the transmission valve body is starting to show issues but ive ordered a wrecker transmission for dirt cheap and ill be back to camping and towing my rallyx car around BC, Canada
Jeremy Clarkson said that the fastest car in the world is not a supercar or even a hypercar, but instead a rental car because you can drive it at its limit without caring. I think you just proved the best off-roader is the dirt cheap one you can be brave enough to take anywhere because you just don't have to care. Addendum: I just noticed the bullet as radio antenna. Nice.
The first gen, yes. The second gen were bigger than the contemporary F150 . And that was their third try to get it right. Don't forget their first attempt at a "full size" was the T100, which was a 3/4. No, not 3/4 ton, 3/4 of the size of an actual full size truck.
I bought a Titan ten years back for ten thousand dollars, best used truck I ever had. The only issue is I had to pull the little rubber plug to the left of the shifter and now keep a little metal rod in the hole I push down to override the interlock so I can put it in Drive after starting.
I have an 04 Titan. The truck was totaled by the insurance company. I got hit by a tree in Wyoming but I still drive it around town. I just have a big dent in the top of the truck and I have plastic in the window. This truck saved my life when the tree hit me. The catalic converters went bad on me and I didn't want to spend $5,000 to fix them but it still drives fine. Not as fast as it used to but still gets up to around 70 miles an hour. I've used it to haul gravel, cement and wood. It is a tough truck that just keeps going. It does great in snow and mud and the 4 by 4 works great. I have never got stuck. I just bought another Titan truck. it's a 2012. So if this newer truck ever breaks down I can use the parts off the 04 to repair it. The value on these trucks will keep going up since they will no longer be making them.
I have had an 05 Titan (it has a locker) since new, just hit 150k miles, almost no issues. If I was dumb enough to replace it, it would be with another Titan or a frontier. Given prices and quality control on the big three there is no way anyone could convince me they are better options.
A tip. On my '05 Titan the dealer was having a devil of a time trying to get the service engine light diagnosed. It was a TCM module but it kept coming back on UNTIL I had to have a new battery. Put new battery in, cleared the code and hasn't returned. Could be it needs a new battery. Worked for me. Just sayin'.
So I still have my 2004 Nissan Titan Crew Cab LE, Galaxy Black (bought in June 2003 in Miami, FL) big tow package which has 215K miles. I need to replace my valve cover gaskets which leak, ABS sensor, A/C actuators (I ignore the knocking) and one corner of the bad that has a rusty floor ^' x 6" area. I have the accessory racks, wire mesh tailgate divider, sliding bin and all the cleats. Used it for my kayak transport and various light duty trailers. Still trucking!! Oh and I had a DVD player (glovebox mount) with dual rear headrest displays for my daughter who grew up in this truck watching every Disney and animated DVD know to kids at the time.
I have a 2005 Titan LE, bought it in 2018 with 184500 miles on it, Biggest job was having Transmission rebuilt @ 201500, still have today @ 207885, plan on owning til it drops but i do love the LE version (Luxury Version)
Bought my 2012 Titan Pro4X May 2020 and got it for a steal for $15k with only 89k miles. These trucks are overlooked. I know early versions had issues with head gaskets and transmission oil cooler issues but later versions (I think 2010 and newer) versions had been resigned.
I bought an ext cab 10 with 150k on the odometer for $7k in 2014 and just rolled 280k and get close to 20mpg if I keep it around 75. I pull a 33ft travel trailer with slides and It doesn't fight for gears like the 2017 Titan Andrea towed his boat with.
I used to want one of these so bad back in the day but last few years forgot what I liked about them. Thanks for reminding me, these things were loaded with features in the 2000s
I just picked up a fixer upper 2008 4X2 King Cab SE. I'm looking forward to getting it in good shape again. I might not keep it long term because of the mpg, but I'm happy with it for now.
I have the 2004 Titan just like this one including the Bullet antenna! Mine has 114K miles and still drives great. It is an Early Feb 2004 purchase so one of the first few sold....
Still have my 2005 Armada SE 4wd i bought used in 2008 for 18.8k. Its been a beast. Pulling boats. Off-roading and snow use a ton. Been a great rig. We call it the Griswold family truckster. You might not like it now, but wait till you drive it.
Have to say after only owning built Jeeps for off roading rigs, I have been absolutely blown away at what my big girl is able to do. Anything you put in front of her, she just eats it up. Factor in the price and a Titan is hard to beat when it comes to a full size off road truck.
I searched in the end of 22 specifically for a Titan because of their bulletproof reliability and heavy duty ruggedness. The best deal I found was $21k out the door for a 12 Pro4x with 68k miles on it. Faded paint on the hood was the only noteworthy issue. I had to fight to get them down to that price at the time. I saw others 5-8 years older with triple the mileage for around $7-$12k. Having owned two 2016 and later Titan’s I prefer the earlier Generations, seem better made and definitely heavier.
Love my titan. It’s an 09 with 107,000 and has a long way to go. I bought it in 2021 for 12k. When I’m with buddies with f150’s of the same year… they paid a lot more but we do all the same stuff.
I live in PA and picked up a fully loaded 2013 SL with ARE cap with 130k mi from Florida that never seen snow for $6500 2 yrs ago. New Bilstein 5100s lifted 2" in the front, 1" blocks out back. New Powerstop brakes with calipers all the way around. Summitomo Encounter factory size 33"s on 20s. Replaced a heater valve, starter, and front wheel hub assemblies. Still dont have $10k in it. These trucks are sadly underated for sure.
Bought my 04 se crew cab back in 07. Currently has 161k miles.strong truck never let me down. Only major problem was the transmission fluis hose busting on me while on the highway , scary day. Have replaced starter, new manifolds. Coils, power windows, air still blows cold but no heat. Currently needs new paint badly n tires. Was gonna give up n buy a new truck then i saw todays sticker prices so im definitely keeping her til my death!
I currently own an 07 Infiniti QX56, which is basically the same truck just in a more luxurious SUV configuration with all of the options included, and it is now hitting 170k and going as strong as could be. However, I did have to get the transmission rebuilt in 2015 at 90k miles, and recently I had to replace the valve cover gasket as well as regular maintenance such as spark plugs, fluids, carbon cleanout, etc. Unfortunately, just a few months ago someone ran a stop sign and t boned me in the process. The people who hit me didn't have insurance, but thankfully I was covered by my own, and the cost to fix it was 10k, so it is all good now and running strong. I 100% believe this thing could easily hit 300k + as long as some idiot doesn't ruin it for me 😂😂
Specifically, he said to avoid the early 2nd gen Frontier. He was not wrong about that. I knew several people who had early 2nd gen Frontiers and they all hated those trucks. Fan belts chirped constantly. Couldn't keep the wheels aligned. My Dad's had some kind of O2 sensor the dealership replaced like 4 times in the first year. He ended up lemon lawing his and getting something else.
@thenotsoguitarguy9429 Huh, My 2008 crew cab 4X4 Frontier went 416,000 miles before it finally developed a serious head gasket leak. Owned a first gen V8 Tundra before it and if you gave me a choice today I'd take the Frontier over the 1st gen Tundra even though it was also a great truck. I know it's an anecdotal story but if you do your research I think you'll find that the 2nd gen Nissan Frontier is one of thebmost reliable trucks you can buy. And there's a lot of anecdotal stories out there of high mileage Frontiers on the road.
@@thenotsoguitarguy9429 the video I’m talking about specifically referred to the Titan only. And yes early 2nd gen Frontiers had some issues. By 08 they were really solid trucks in most cases. Some still had the bad timing guides as well as smod from the bad radiators.
@@AB-coyote Ya I suppose it depends on what you consider the early years of the 2nd gen considering it ran until 2018 lol. I consider my 2008 and early year personally. You certianly aren't wrong about the SMOD issue and timing chain guides. I suppose you could throw the rear diff breather in there as well. But replacing the radiator and doing the diff mod aren't to bad. Timing chain tensioner issues will cost ya a pretty penny though.
Anyone who recommends against the early gen 2 Frontier will tell you to avoid the 05-07 year models. Like I said, I knew several people who had them, and they all got rid of them. My dad had his for less than a year before the dealership offered to put him in something else, and he accepted. The way I understand it, Nissan had pretty much worked the gremlins out by 08. Who knows? Maybe dad's truck was built on a Friday afternoon or something.
And I'm sure the profits from this video will also help expand that budget to make this a great long-term solution for his friend. Great vid. guys. Those Titans are beasts. They still are.
2005 Titan 4x4 XE King cab JBAShorty headers, high flow b bipes JBA Y Pipe JBA 3" inch exhaust, Detroit TruTrac, Tuned with Up rev! Shes faster than a scalleded dog!
I had an 2006 with 425,000 miles on it. Finally donated it and got a Ram 2500 Cummins. Although the Ram is a serious truck that I use for my 25' trailer and RV, I do miss the pep and ease of driving of my old Titan. I did not consider Nissan again because they are abandoning the Titan thus I started considering something larger.
I still have this very same truck, bought new 204K miles ago. It has several performance upgrades though; such as full stainless dual 3.5 inch exhaust with stainless headers, 4.56:1 gears, after market intake manifold with 90mm throttle body and hi-flow injectors, 6 inch cold air, Jim Wolf Cams and valve springs, ported/polished/flow-matched heads and a chipped/tunable ECU. The bottom end is bone-stock with the exception of aftermarket pistons, for a bit of compression bump to 11:1. (standard bore, fresh rings and bearings, oil pump and timing chains). I have no idea how much WHP it makes, but it put out 511 HP @6800RPM on the engine dyno two days before I put it back in the truck; and it really pisses off my buddy who has a TRX and can't pull away from me like he does everything else. lol As for the truck itself, it's a stocker with no lift or suspension, or transmission upgrades, just the standard up-keep replacement parts over the years. But Yeah!!..Titan haters can hate all they want to, this thing still keeps up with the competition of today. I trash it regularly at the raceway and it's my work truck on top of it all. It just keeps on rockin it! 😎 GO NISSAN
The 5.6 is bullet proof. Watch the manifolds (cracks), engine mounts, pinion and axle seals, heater control valve, leak from the thermostat housing, interior plastics and HVAC actuators. Nissan Master Tech for 4 years.
agreed and a few catastrophic Catalytic issues on the early years
Any tip to solve a slow leak from the passenger side front axle? G37x, but the hydraulic rack and axle design are similar (I think). 120K miles in Canada's rust belt.
Seems like every other truck from Mid-2000’s haha
Definitely! I love these trucks had a 2008 and bought it at 78,000 mi. I had it about a year and a half and had to do the manifolds, the thermostat housing, the pinion seal basically everything you listed minus the mounts and HVAC
YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT
I now have my Dad's 2004 Nissan Titan SE 4x4.
The 08 sierra would be bailout era for Chevy
Mind sharing the mileage
@@GB-vf8tp it has 368,000 miles on it as of today

My mom had an Armada she got new in 2011. 5.6 liter V8. Clocked 165k on it towing and going on long trips from Ohio to SC and Maryland numerous times. Never had a mechanical issue. Great powertrain
Had the same year. I loved the truck, but the 9500lb towing was a myth. The engine was up to it, but on hills the transmission was a complete let down.
Gas hog?
@@OOICU812only one worse was the Toyota 5.7,,, 😂😂. They couldn’t get fuel economy down pat, but after 2008 the Tundra was best in reliability and Nissan Titan next. With the Tacoma and the Frontier, reliability was near identical but often the Frontier came out on top.
@@OOICU812 mine was. Towed a ~8k trailer from Michigan to Kentucky. 3 mpg. Yes, 3.

That truck has one of the best v8 motors on the market. Had a 2004 just like that but in black. Still the best truck I have owned.
Wouldn't trade in my paid for 04 for anything. I have no interest in new trucks, too much liability
Tundra do sell wym 😂
Tundra is not an alternative your smoking crack
I have two Armadas from that era. My 05 is 2wd and has never had an issue out in the farm pasture. Never had an engine issue or trans issue. The exhausts rotted off both and some interior stuff breaks but the ac is ice cold on both and they are tanks. 200k is nothing for them.
I had this truck, and it was the fastest thing on the road. Hemi's gave me a good run for the money, but it was really fast. I really liked it.
As someone who owned two of that gen. They were full size not 7/8 like you heard. And were beating the competition at that time but many didn't buy them. That 5.6l was powerful and could easily out tow the others. They were the first to have the rail system in the bed and the storage box.
Ya i think andre got confused on the 7/8 scale comment. I bet he was thinking about the first gen Tundra
Yup! It was the Tundra he was thinking about
Everyone thinks that the Gen 2 Tundra made the Big 3 change their ways, the Gen 1 Titan came out in late 2003 and SMOKED everyone's half-ton offerings.
The most under appreciated trucks on the market. Solid quality, reliability and power.
The 1st gen Titan is such a hidden gem
@@NWI_Steel Yes they are. I still have a '15 P4X with only 62k on it and will probably keep it till it dies.
I have 2023 Titan Pro4x and it's the most under appreciated truck currently but I love and so does everyone that I let drive it.
I can tell you why there isn’t quality.
Exhaust and air intake won't do anything unless you tune it for those modes
Go dad! I’m sure your son is stoked!!!
I've got a '13 Pro-4X crew cab, it has 120k miles on it and I love it!

Do you have headers and high flow cats as well?
Love that you bought a truck for a friend in need and then immediately took it off road.
It was a great Idea, but not in the rust belt states.
Yep, I had an Bump Side F250 with the side box.
It was before all of the tech actually driving the car instead of the driver. My kind of vehicle.

Same here, actually if you look at the offerings for full size trucks from the big 3, the titan was significantly larger when it came out in 2004.
I've owned a titan and the Armada. Both were destroyed by the cats. Unless it's 2016 or newer, don't buy it
The 5.6 is a masterpiece, best V8 available on the market.

Back seats fold up and I put my Craftsman Trade Stack (like Packout) modular tool cases in back when I need bed open for building material. The truck is very smooth and comfortable for family duty on weekends and vacations but is also very stable with a heavy load or a loaded trailer. Usually you have stiff and stable or soft and comfortable with trucks Ive used for work over the years (all makes but toyota)
That truck is perfect for a modern plumber especially if he has modern modular storage boxes like Trade Stack or Packout to quickly change out what he has on the truck for different jobs.
Nice.
The 7/8 trucks were the Tundras.
8:31 oh my god. No! Ford did it way back in the 70s many have done it since.
$1,500 is $1,500. This truck is worth that and plenty more all day.
Sorry but there is zero chance you're getting 20 mpg at 75mph in a first gen titan
I used to want one of these so bad back in the day but last few years forgot what I liked about them. Thanks for reminding me, these things were loaded with features in the 2000s
The Titan is very popular among Australian tradies. The Toyota Hilux is of course the most popular among tradies.
I have the 2 wheel drive..201572 miles and it's still strong..love it😊
Still have my 2005 Armada SE 4wd i bought used in 2008 for 18.8k.
I just bought a black 06 with 221,000 mi. lowered with light strip headlights and tail lights for $2K
Got my 2005 titan for 4200, very powerful and strong, love it
For $1500 it's a steal man I paid 5k for mine but mine has a lift and leather sits with adjustable pedals.
My armada 2005 vk56de engine modified best underrated do it all suv
Service engine soon light is just an oil change light you can reset it.
I 100% believe this thing could easily hit 300k + as long as some idiot doesn't ruin it for me 😂😂
Nissan trucks are criminally underrated. Even Brendan talked bad about them at one of the Auto Auctions y’all went to.
I like the styling of the first generation Titans.
And I'm sure the profits from this video will also help expand that budget to make this a great long-term solution for his friend. Great vid. guys. Those Titans are beasts. They still are.
Love my 2023 Nissan Platinum Reserve. Very underrated truck.
I'm a Chevy man through and through, but I own a Titan as well, and I love this truck.
Ford f250 was the original truck to have a tool box on bed in the 1970s right behind the cab on both sides 😮.
These older, Nissan Titans are nice, decent pick-up trucks.
2005 Titan 4x4 XE King cab
JBAShorty headers, high flow b bipes JBA Y Pipe JBA 3" inch exhaust, Detroit TruTrac, Tuned with Up rev!
Shes faster than a scalleded dog!
Some pretty cool guys at TFL. Really like the channel.
425k sheesh!
Still rocking a 2015. I love the truck. Does everything I need it to do. We need to get back to this instead of $100K vehicles.
😎 GO NISSAN
