Hello. You seem to like Gavin Harrison on the drums. No wonder, he is amazing. If you are interested, search (from UA-cams, naturally) for "Gavin Harrison Anesthetize" and you'll find a video where he performs that middle part of the song (with that epicness that starts around 16:19 on your vid) at Modern Drummer fesival years back. So good.
You have officially been anesthetized Nic! Welcome to the world and the genius of Steven Wilson - both with his band Porcupine Tree but I would also encourage you to check out his solo work. If you want more live PT - check out their brand new album Closure/Continuation LIVE which only came out last year. 3 tracks you can find on UA-cam are: Harradan, Fear of a Blank Planet and I Drive the Hearse. Listen and react to all 3! All totally different and all equally gobsmacking for different reasons. I look forward to watching and listening to your reactions!
They should have called this song "Mesmerize," because that's what every musician does when they geek out watching every one of these band members perform...especially Gavin. Just...Wow...
Funny you mentioned the heftiest part being 'orgasmic' in some way. To me the word 'eargasm' doesn't even fit for tracks and performances like these. I'd rather consider 'wholegasmic' or 'healgasmic'. I feel better after listening to this music. Devin Townsend and The Gathering (with Anneke) have the same effect on me, especially live.
Gavin Harrison, one of the GOAT. He is a so versatile, musical, technical drummer. There are and was many great drummers, but, with those three qualities at the same time, at this level... Never heard before
You should also listen to some of Stevens solo work. He really is a genius songwriter. Title track from the album this song is on is also magnificent ‘Fear of a blank planet’ such a great comment on youth which is just as relevant 17 years later
Oh Hello there... You now have another subscriber... Loved the reaction. You were asking for more Porcupine Tree songs.... WELL: How about these for a couple of choices. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" OR "Hatesong"... BUT.. React to the live versions PLEASE. They are SO GOOD live. it is a crime not to... Keep on Rocking young sir.
Music of PT can somehow be divided into several stages of the transformation of their sound. Each of these stages is an extraordinary musical adventure. Starting with their oldest psychedelic rock albums, going through their unique progressive, but still subdued sound, ending with their dark, sometimes depressing version. This song can be classified as their darker side. Each of these versions is something special for the listener. I love all of their work. Each of their next albums is very different from the previous one. I highly recommend you listen to their other albums if you haven't already. It's a truly great musical experience.
I was introduced to Porcupine Tree in 2004 ,by my guitar and music gear distributor ,and it was the same one you are speaking of ..."In Absentia"and the song "TRAINS". I was completely taken in by the album ,and when I had played it out ,I went shopping , bc I wanted more. I bought their DVD , "ARRIVING SOMEWHERE,NOT HERE",and became a 20 year huge fan. I play guitar in a heavy guitar driven band ,and Steven Wilsons guitar choice is by PAUL REED SMITH ,and I have about 12 different models ,which afford me a multitude of tonal landscapes. The big blue head album ,"FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET"is where you can find this song, was my next PT purchase. Steven is quite a brilliant songwriter who has a number of side projects ,one of particular interest for you to hear is "BLACKFIELD" with Tim Bowness ,the album IV, BLACKFIELD ,and the songs "PAIN",and "BLACKFIELD"are pure Wilson genius. Gavin Harrison ,the drummer here spent 20 plus years with PT,opting out 2-3 years ago to join "PINEAPPLE THIEF"which a ton of PT fans now are Pineapple Thief fans as well. Some other notable PT releases are "LIGHTBULB SUN", "THE INCIDENT" ,"FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET", and "DEADWING". DVDs ... "ARRIVING SOMEWHERE,NOT HERE",and "ANESTHETIZE". KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!
A few videos to check out ,that feature both Steven, and Gavin are "HATESONG" (LIVE),and "The Sound Of Muzak" (live). On Hatesong ,Gavin actually passes out over his kit at the end of the song.He is absolutely brilliant ,and in my humble opinion there are few master class rock drummers of Gavins reputation. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) Neil Peart (RUSH) Danny Carey. ( TOOL) Marco Minneman (solo ,currently) Mike Mangini. (MANGIÑI,DREAM THEATER) Augustus Priester (many bands) Derek Roddy. (many)
Good reaction. Gavin Harrison in my opinion is probably one of the best drummers on the planet, Rolling stone rated him the third best drummer in the last 25 years. As well as Porcupine Tree check out more Gavin Harrison with a band called the Pineapple Thief, white mist is a good song to try by them.
I will like and subscribe , arriving somewhere but not here or fear of a blank planet to start with PT have ten studio albums , listen to alll of them , they the only band close to Floyd
I assume you've already heard all of the relevent Opeth catalogue. It's relevant because Steve Wilson produced several of Opeth's albums during this period, and stole from Mikael's style.
Interrupting the song to comment cuts all the mood of this masterpiece, and the "aftertaste" is impacted. Not a complaint, just an impression, mate. I appreciate the react.
Yes, I shaved my head :DD
Also, that one album from Porcupine Tree I like is ''In Absentia'' :))

This is simply one of the best songs ever...
The Great Rhythmic Drummer is “Gavin Harrison”!
Arguably the best of his generation (at least to me)
"Gavin Harrison"?
@@hectorlagos8937He and Danny Carey from Tool
PROG ROCK MASTERPIECE
I think you'll enjoy Arriving somewhere but not here live from Chicago. Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson are the best.
Still my favourite PT song😊

Great reaction 👍 hope you take the porcupine tree/wilson journey, “hatesong” and “cheating the polygraph” both live 😁 are great for starters!! 😁👍
Gavin Harrison and Danny Carey the two drummer I listen to the songs on repeat for the drums !
They should have called this song "Mesmerize," because that's what every musician does when they geek out watching every one of these band members perform...especially Gavin. Just...Wow...
Yeah, I Was familiar with stuff like Steven's song writing ability, but Gavin caught me off-guard :Dd
drummer`s name is Gavin Harrison^^
A beast.
Another beast is Baard Kolstad. Next on the list: Leprous? :^)
A rollercoaster. Just Brilliant.
The track was originally from " Fear of a Blank Planet" classic music. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Indiana.
\o/
Huzzah for musical anesthetization!
Thanks for taking my suggestion.
:^)

Love, love, love Porcupine Tree, Pineapple Thief and Steven Wilson!
Great reaction! Hope you will check out Opeth - Bleak. The album Blackwater Park is produced by Steven Wilson and he also sings some backing vocals.
The drummer is none other than the most excellent "Mr Gavin Harrison"
Saw Porcupine Tree's first ever gig back in December 1993
Gavin Harrison, one of the GOAT.

You dont really know how much the basist is doing till hes not there, very cool
Trueee at 13:48 👏👏
Man, both Opeth and Porcupine Tree really know how to do outros to songs. (and makes sense since Wilson and Åkerfeldt are buddies and worked together)
Can't believe he doesn't know of Gav. He goes way back to Tracy Stansfield in the last 80's!! He's one of THE best ever!
You should also listen to some of Stevens solo work. He really is a genius songwriter. Title track from the album this song is on is also magnificent ‘Fear of a blank planet’ such a great comment on youth which is just as relevant 17 years later

i cried watching this bc listening to anesthetize for the first time over and over is like my dream

The part where everything slows down and the pill falls into the water for me highlights a special something that keyboards bring to music

Gavin Harrison also toured with a fairly recent iteration of King Crimson as one of the three (yes, not a typo) drummers on stage. Phenomenal!
That last solo always triggers emotions
Also.... holy crap..., ive never thought about the pill landing in the water as "he didn't have the last pill" ... 🤯

Thanks for the reaction! Lots to pick from here. I would say "Arriving somewhere but not here" (Live - Chicago) and Hatesong.
If you like Trains, do a reaction to their live version of Trains where Steven breaks a string…epic!
Gavin Harrisson is pure drums genius .. ( it's initially a jazz drummer in his young age . This father was a jazz trumpet player ;-) )
“That was orgasmic” is exactly what I said when I first heard the song
Good reaction. Gavin Harrison in my opinion is probably one of the best drummers on the planet, Rolling stone rated him the third best drummer in the last 25 years. Thank you for your comment! I will definitely check him out 😌
Gavin Harrison is such a awsome drummer...!
Another song from Porcupine Tree that you should listen to is Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

Megamind is blown
Time for another photo on the ceiling.
I have them on the wall, but I might get a Wilson photo on the ceiling just to get some creative spark everytime I look up😂
@@nicolaswutzmusic Oh - thought you said you already had Steven up there. Was referring to Gavin. I hope by now you are more familiar with his resume.
Yeah I have Steven there. I was just saying he's on my wall, not the ceiling:DD Gavin may end up there too 😂
Try Routine by Steven Wilson.
