@MusicForTheSoulReactions got into them in lockdown Steve, amazing stuff and his solo work, he's also remastered The Beatles, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, worked with Elton John, I'd recommend 'Arriving Somewhere but not Here' solo track 'Home Invasion/Regret no. 9'
Yes, but we are among the lucky ones that have heard of them 😃😃. Didnt discover them until jan of 2017 - lifechanging because now they are my fav. band and SW my fav. artist ❤❤
This has been in my top 5 songs since discovering it about a decade ago (it was released 2007 but i discovered it much later), along with a couple of solo Steven Wilson tracks. Mr. Wilson is also known for the quality of all of his productions, this being a stellar one! Fun fact: the studio recording of this has Alex Lifeson doing the solo starting about 7:20ish here.... Porcupine Tree went on hiatus after their 2009 release, but three of the members reconnected and released Closure/Continuation in 2022. There was a short tour, but it may be the last we see of them. Steven Wilson still tours as a solo artist is touring again starting Spring 2025. His solo work is excellent and even more diverse stylistically.
One of my favorite bands for 20 years now (god that statement makes me feel old). I missed seeing this show in Tilburg (which is in the Netherlands btw, as a million people probably already told you) because of person reasons, thinking I would just catch their next show. Before they got back to the Netherlands they broke up for 12 years.... When they announced they would do another album and another tour in 2021 I bought tickets right away. Keep in mind, this was high-tide COVID lockdown, but luckily I got to go in November of 2022. And man... They are as good live now as they were 12 years ago, some might even argue they are better. IDK if they will do another tour. But if they do, I am 100% sure to be there. Because these guys SHINE when they play live. Absolutely no doubt about it.
Yea! My favorite band that made music in the 2,000s. Gavin Harrison is the best drummer alive in my opinion. Steven Wilson is the brilliant composer. Please check out the song Luminol from his solo stuff off the best album in the past 11 years, the Raven that refused to Sing. His first few solo albums were still prog with a dash of metal, but with Jazz mixed in!
Porcupine Tree, my personal actual favorite band. Masterpiece of a song. You couldn't start better with this song. Fan since 1996. First concert at Bataclan in Paris (1999).
i saw them last year. i didn't expect them to have so many fans in romania-especially those two guys who stood next to me, waited for this song, and sang along to it word for word.
and- i recently wrote here about king crimson- hell hounds of krim. gavin harrison (from porcupine tree, of course) is one of the 3 drummers on that song.
Now you get why I kept banging on about PT they are sublime . The drummer is Gavin Harrison easily one of the best drummers in the world, lead singer is Stephen Wilson one of the most admired producers in the world. The song is about overuse of anti- depressants and society refusing to deal with reality , the line about all the pills in me and electricity is a direct reference to Prozac withdrawal . Loved the reaction
Brilliant reaction! Sensational song & band. Steven Wilson, the genius that sings & everything else is one of a kind! Try Steven Wilson - Ancestral live at Royal Albert Hall! You won’t be disappointed!
Fabulous, enthusiastic and honest reaction. Loved it. Someone who truly gets what this phenominal band and the genius of Steven Wilson are really about. As others have mentioned, sooooo many possible other tracks to react too. Just make sure any you do react to are always LIVE. SW is simply unparrallelled live. Nonone else comes close. Anything else from this DVD Live in Tilburg - but especially Way Out of Here or Cheating the Polygraph or if you want to go with most recent LIVE PT - Try "Fear of a Blank Planet" or "Harridan" from their most recent LIVE DVD Closure/Continuation. Just brilliant. Keep em coming....
Thank you for the kind comment/feedback. These guys have certainly entertained the 2 times I reacted to them so I can only imagine they would continue to do so the more I venture down that rabbit hole! Look forward to it. Take care
Phenomenal band and thats not easy for me to type let alone say. On to other masterpieces live such as ‘ Fear of a blank planet’, ‘Arriving somewhere but not here’, or ‘Hatesong’. Oh and Tilburg is in Holland😂 and as for touring they toured in 2023 however we are left guessing as to whether they will do so again. The last album in 2022 was their first for 13 years and was enigmatically called CLOSURE/CONTINUATION leaving it open as to whether they would produce anything more together. Steven Wilson will be touring in the UK next year in May as a ‘Solo’ artist however the band that he puts together for his Solo tours is arguably the equal of Porcupine Tree. Check out ‘Ancestral’ Live from the Royal Albert Hall in 2018 on YT to get an idea of what his solo work is like (its not much different to PT tbh)
Ah yes Steve.. one of my fav bands... Saw Steven Wilson solo live.. Phenomenal.. so glad you liked them! So much more for you to explore.. a good while ago I requested ''Arriving Somewhere But Not Here'' im sure its on the list but would be a good one from them to keep reminding you to stay going back to them as a fearure band on your channel, just like Zepplin & Genesis etc... Its another big rabbit hole and im looking forward to it.. Irish Roadie Colm.. 🤘😎🤘
I do believe it's on the list, definitely want to keep these guys popping up every now and then on the channel, they are super fun to react too, very enjoyable, thanks for watching Irish roadie
I sawe them live three times, and Steven solo twice. They did a reuion tour a year or two ago, but they don;t tour anymore. although, Steven Wilson make solo music and tours with his band and they plays PT songs here and there when they are on tour.
Wow. Most reactors never react to this band. 1990’s onward British prog rock/ metal is not huge in the US as a genre. I discovered them a few years ago through UA-cam. Anesthetize was the first song I heard by then and I was mesmerized. Kinda floaty and spacey…then laying down some Tool-like licks. Immensely talented. I was totally shocked that I seem to like prog metal bands much more than the old prog rock bands like Yes or ELP. who knew? Just goes to show you can discover great new music even in your 70’s if you keep an open mind and heart.
Love this! Especially the keeping an open mind, I hope I stay along that path now I've started as I get older too! I'm pretty much guided by what's suggested within my comments section so I have no clue what's popular amongst other reaction channels, I guess on some occasions I'll therefore find some duds no one watches but also some hidden gems. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
This band's live videos are great for reactions, as they always live up to the quality of their studio recordings. Line up a few more, you won't be disappointed! I suggest Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Hatesong, Strip the Soul, What Happens Now, Cheating the Polygraph, Time Flies, and The Sky Moved Sideways.
Hi Steve. I’ll try to keep this short. One of my all time favorite bands! Although considered prog. A term Steven Wilson, singer guitarist and main writer for his band dislikes. They play all sorts of genres and even write short 3 and a half minute rock songs. All of them are amazingly talented! Gavin Harrison is the most incredible drummer. His flow is beyond words and my fav drummer. Love the Dr Who reference! I’m a big fan as well. My fav doctor is David Tennent. Love his quirky approach as the Dr
Hey, thanks for commenting as always. These guys are great, I do see the prog comparison label that Steve doesn't seem to like, embrace it I say! David Tennant was great, I had a like of Matt Smith (the one wearing a fez 🤣🤦♂️).
@ you’re welcome! I really enjoy your reactions! I have a Dr Who song I wrote entirely on the computer on my channel. I would love it if you could check it out! The intro music to video I physically played and wrote. You can skip to 1:36 to skip monologue. ua-cam.com/video/NtKAB4HvkXw/v-deo.htmlsi=ipUy47uYT4jdLSL9
This starts less grungy than 'Blackest Eyes' but moves to a Progy Metal sound. For some reason the beginning reminds me of "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead. Nice drums then a grungy groove.
Hey, thanks for the comment. If I know good music, it's only through the kindness of you lot on this channel sharing recommendations of who to check out to thanks for that 🙂
Love this band, never saw them live. They reformed and did a tour recently. Unfotunately, the wife is not a fan, and wouldn't go. I know, I'm a big boy and could have went on my own. Silly me, I don't think they will ever tour again. Now my wife says "they're ok" and she loves "Blackest Eyes". Too little, too late. Anyway, this is a great song and performance. At least I can enjoy the video. Please do more! US Roadie 1 signing off..
Great prog rock from masters. I love anything from Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson solo. So much to choose from that I'm having trouble picking out one or two. I love "Trains", "Mellotron Scratch", "My Ashes" but most anything you may decide on will be excellent. I've not seen many reactors do a deep dive into Porcupine Tree. This band makes some beautiful music.
@ closure / continuation released about 10 months ago , Haradon a new song released recently the four albums before just get better and better in abstention, deadwing and fear of a blank plant
Sorry to burst any bubbles Steve but, for now, PT is done, tour over and Steven goes back in to solo mode. I heartily recommend Blackfield, one of his many projects, glorious pop/art/prog, check out Cloudy Now, Epidemic, Christenings and Blood for starters!
Steve Wilson, the lead singer, is certainly the most known prog musician from the 20 last years. That is also due to the fact that, himself big fan from 70's prog, he did a lot of remixing of great albums from Yes, Gentle Giant, King Crimson and so on.
Your reactions are cracking me up! Yes, I can relate! You might want to check out Steven Wilson's solo tour next year. Also react to some of his live concerts. Not as heavy as PT but just as genius / moving / trippy. I think you should react to Get All You Deserve live DVD in one sitting (maybe split it up for multiple videos). The playlist is on the Tube. It's an experience that I think works best in original order and in one sitting.
Hi Steve, think the last PT track you reviewed was Blackest Eyes...the one about the serial killer. The main singer/songwriter, Steven Wilson has a new album out soonish and he is touring next year
Gavin Harrison is a really accomplished drummer. Interesting fact, that after Porcupine Tree originally broke up, Steven Wilson went solo and chose Nick Beggs of Kajagoogoo fame as his bass player. Nick then went on to be voted best Prog bass player 5 times.
Just started the video, lemme just start off saying that I have struggled to get into Porcupine Tree. I'm all about Steven Wilson's remixes of Yes and Jethro Tull. There are some amazing moments in PT and SW tunes, but (please don't hate) it all just is too much intricate, extremely talented sad-ass whiny sh!t.
I have tool on my list, hopefully get to them very soon as I'm trying to get through some of the requests for bands I haven't yet come across 🤞. Cheers for the reminder
Porcupine Tree, the best band you've never heard of!
I find that so crazy! Can't believe so many people (me included) have slept on this band!

I've found that out the hard way early on with my channel, I think my video last all of 2 hours before being removed! Shame as what I heard was good!
Really enjoyed that
Me too!
"oh its getting serious now" You have no idea hahahaha. hearing this live was a favorite of my concert going career
Haha ain't that the truth! What an insane banger this was! Can imagine is was so cool to see live!
This song is a BANGER!! 🥁🎸🎹🎤👏👏👏👏💙💙🎵🎶🎶🎶
Absolutely 100% is!! 🤯🤯🤯
Right? Yes it blew my mind too. 👍
You'll see during this song that the keyboard player looks over and gives the drummer a little smile after particularly intense drum fills.
I'll have to re-watch and check that out. Love it!
I have seen a lot of reactions of this song. And this one was the best hahaha! More please
Saw them live at Hard Rock in Orlando. OMG! They are possibly the best live band ever to walk the Earth...right there with YES.
That's a big comparison with Yes, if true, I definitely gotta see this band!!!

Yep, I now totally get your eagerness for me to visit them once again, excellent stuff from start to finish!!!
This was the first Porcupine Tree song I ever heard. In my top 10 of everything ever! This is up there with breathing and food for me. Great reaction!
I can see why, so many amazing layers to unpack here, quality stuff for sure
Arriving Somewhere but not here. Same live concert!! WATCH IT!!
Brilliant reaction! Sensational song & band.
Steven Wilson, the genius that sings & everything else is one of a kind! Try Steven Wilson - Ancestral live at Royal Albert Hall! You won’t be disappointed!
