Legendary line up and adding John Wesley as a second guitarist during their live shows not only enhanced the PT sound but Wesley’s back up vocals added so much depth. PT changed my life.
I loved your reaction to this masterpiece. I've listened to this song so many times now, it never fails to move me. as a musician, it blows my mind with the arrangement, the transitions, the musicianship is outstanding (everyone). I truely appreciate your reaction with silence as it speaks volumes. It is truly a journey. Thank you- Peace
I've probably watched this performance 100 times since it came out and it just never gets old. Truly one of the very best live performances of all time.
I'm definitely happy to see some Porcupine Tree on here. I've been actively playing the drums for almost 20 years now, and I would say Gavin Harrison definitely deserves a spot in the conversation of greatest metal drummers of all time. It's not only that his technical playing skills are razor sharp and his timing absolutely steadfast, but also he is one of the best I've heard when it comes to composing drum parts. Like he does some wild stuff I probably wouldn't have ever thought of doing and manages to make all of it fit in with the rest of the band so seamlessly.
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Oh it was.. It was actually at this concert, 2022, from which the bass player Nate Navarro took the video "Nate Navarro / Porcupine Tree / Rig Rundown" from. And I was right there, at the barrier in front of him. :D **EDIT** If you search for the video of "Porcupine Tree, Sound of Muzak" by "Jukka Tavi" .. you can actually see my beard bopping out of sync in the front row. xD **hint** There is a red light at the bottom of the screen, left of that, that's me. :D
It is a trip and PT are a seriously addictive musical drug that delivers so much pleasure. Hope that you can also check out the other PT epic ‘Arriving Somewhere but Not here’ as well as some others from their extensive and brilliant catalogue. Thank you for this reaction and thank you to your enlightened patron for opening the door to PT.
Hi there Wolff.. it is a bit jaw dropping on first listen isn't it. I've listened to this track so many times now and it never gets stale. And I love the way they can perform with this much clarity and precision on stage whilst also taking you on a journey. What stuns me is the way they can virtually reproduce the studio version on the stage with just a few changes to suit the live environment. And you will find that with all of their live stuff... it's flawless. Steven Wilson is such a great songwriter. Keep on Rocking.
Thanks, Tommy. You dove into the deep end. Again. They are incomparable musicians playing incredible songs. Gavin joined them on drums in about 2002 and it really added another gear. You can really hear what he adds in live performance to some of their older material. I await your discovery of their reunion after a 12-year absence in 2022. There are many great choices released on DVD. Some are also released and linked on UA-cam.
After this you could check out Way out of here, Arriving somewhere but not here, Hatesong, Where we would be or Stop Swimming. There is a lot ex exceptional material on Steven’s catalog. You have scratched the surface now but there is more, a lot more 😊
Thank you for this. You made my day. Your reaction reminded me of the first time I experienced this masterpiece. I needed some time process what I had just listened to. I was immediately convinced that I had just discovered the greatest band that almost nobody has ever heard of. I found them while looking for Gavin Harrison (drummer) content. My two favorite Gavin Harrison showcase pieces are Cheating the Polygraph and Way out of Here, both live from Tilburg. Please include these in your Porcupine Tree journey.
I remember when first got anesthetized (first time hearing this song). It was good, but it took a few listens and now it is one of my favorite songs of all time. It takes some time/ multiple listens to fully digest
This song is so stupidly good. Absolute god-tier musicians on that stage delivering a performance superior to the album. I own the Blu-Ray and it's fantastic.
I used to own their Deadwing CD but I haven't listened to them in years. This was so good! I think my favorite part was when the guitarists sang together at the end. Loved the drummer, too.
There were a time when peeps ask for me who is best drummer.. I always answer Gavin. This band have a special place in my heart.❤ Now there is more drummers who i need to mention ..
Great first song to dig into for Porcupine Tree! Fear of a Blank Planet is a great album and at first look Anesthetize is crazy long, but it really flows with the rest of the songs imo. It's interesting that you mentioned that it felt like watching a movie because I got the same feeling the first time I heard it, very cinematic! Maybe it's a continuation of the thought process from the previous album Deadwing, which album was a concept album based on a screenplay Steven Wilson had written, Anyhoo great reaction, can't wait to see more! 🤘🤘
Welcome to a whole new world of musical perfection Wolff - there is SO much we could recommend it is hard to know where to start. Most of their catalogue is of course from the early 2000's but dont be afraid to explore their brand new material as well from the the album Closure/Continuation released just a couple of years back. If you go looking through UA-cam you can find 3 tracks with live recordings from their studio sessions in Air Studios which are all brilliant in their own right: Harridan, Walk the Plank and Of the New Day. All completely different but essential PT. Or also now available on UA-cam are 3 tracks from the LIVE DVD from the same album Closure/Continuation and from that again you could check out any one of them: Fear of a Blank Planet, I Drive the Hearse or Harridan. Enjoy the ride and I look forward to watching and listening to your reactions
The vocalist sound is good in this,i also really enjoyed the bass in this track. Lyrics were also really good. I felt that maybe there was something missing on this, but i can not put my finger on what is missing exactly.
Oh...I am brought back. I forgot how great this song was. PT, i remember looking in early 2000s for something different. I had a love of Yes, Kansas, Floyd.. i went looking for new prog and found PT and Pure Reason, others too but these have stuck over time. So good at composition and making an feel or environment. That drummer.. wow, SW and other vocalists shined. I love the polyphonic singing, PRR does that a lot too, in fact PRR has opened for PT before. Great song choice patreon! ❤ and ✌️
Thank you dude for this reaction. PT is sometimes overwhelming on first listen, much to pull in. I suggest listening to this a few times more, you’ll learn to appreciate the flow and intricate transitions for what PT are well known for. For me there is no more complete contemporary prog rock band around. Much love ❤️
Legendary line up and adding John Wesley as a second guitarist during their live shows not only enhanced the PT sound but Wesley’s back up vocals added so much depth. PT changed my life.
The perfect choice, this song is pure perfection. Gavin's drumming is sublime.
This song is from Fear of a Blank Planet, sounds killer on vinyl too 😊
The drums and bass on this track are an absolute fucking clinic on how to move a song

Ya this whole performance was unreal!

More like, when your drummer makes a mistake but turns it into a good save

This live version was the the first Porcupine Tree song I ever heard and I still love it equally 10 years later. It is their Magnum Opus.

It's amazing that the transitions are so seamless. Even from the inferno of the hardest part with the double kicks into the chorus was a letdown.

the interplay of groovy and ultra heavy without any growls or yells is quite unique with the odd cadence rhythm. awesome group
