That strangle scene was the moment this series changed television forever. There had never been a "bad guy" protagonist like this - prior to this the lead character of a series would never commit an act like that - it really set the a tone and let audiences know that they were in for the sort of series that no one had ever seen and set the show apart from any that came before it. Every anti-hero show (ie. Breaking Bad, Dexter, etc) produced after this was influenced by it and would not have existed without this series paving the way for that kind of character to be accepted
Everyone talks about Breaking Bad as one of the pioneering tv series this century, but it was simply a jacked up Weeds from around a decade previously. Remarkably similar storylines, the only difference being Weeds was a thriller comedy, whereas Breaking Bad was a pure thriller.

It's a genius move for Tony to let his uncle be the boss. Cause now all the attention is on Junior even though it's really Tony that runs things. About Doc Melphie, she was right in that Tony thinks he loves her but this is something that happens often with patients and their psy in that because the psy give them attention and listen to them, they confuse their feelings and imagine themselves in love with their psy. But most often than not it's just misunderstandings.

It might not mean much in todays TV, but Tony strangling that guy invented the anti hero. It was the first time a main character was portrayed buy buy a bad guy. This is seen as one of the most important episodes in television history. Without Tony Soprano we don’t get Walter White. The Soprano’s ran so that breaking bad could also run. Junior is not the real boss. He's only a lightning rod for the FBI, as Tony said. Tony calls the shots while everyone else thinks or acts like Junior is the boss.
