The song at the end is Paparazzi by Xzhibit. The shows use of music is incredible.

The remix of "Every Breath You Take/'Peter Gunn' Theme" Man.... 10/10 music.

There is a very subtle edit in this ending scene where the FBI guy writes "Boss" on the post-it note and then cuts to a photo of Tony instead of Junior. So good. This ending scene where the FBI is introduced was when I knew this show was only just getting started.

The ending to this episode is still one of my favorite moments. It's so cinematic with that music and the cuts to the pictures of each capo, and with the surprise introduction to the FBI and their investigation

Trivia: the scene towards the end, where Carm and Tony are sitting outside talking? Edie Falco, who plays Carm, said of the scenes she was in, thats her favorite 💗

Dreams in this show are top notch. Only other person truly known for them is David Lynch but I honestly hold The Sopranos on its own pedestal when it comes to capturing the surrealism, hilarity and or scary shit of a dream while also making it be either strong symbolism or an important plot point. A dream scene is never a waste in this show which sometimes can end up being filler in other shows tbh lol

The dream sequences in the show are easily one of my favorite parts. Gives room for some surreal filmmaking and a view into Tony’s inner desires.

Thank you! I love every thing about the show, but I know the dream sequences are one of those things some did not like, similar to the casuals only wanting people getting whacked and could not appreciate the scenes with Dr. Melfi or even with the family. Like that’s what made the show special

Its funny when Tony refuses to believe he's a mama's boy, when the conversation with Dr Melfi confronting him on stealing her car sounds like a parent scolding their child lol.
Melfi: what else have you done?
    Tony: *silent*
    Melfi: Answer me.
    Tony: I love you.
    Melfi: (sternly) Anthony.
Tell me that doesn't sound like a mother and son conversation 😂 its brilliant lmao

Florence nightingale effect is not quite accurate, but right track. Florence Nightingale effect is when caregiver catches feelings for the patient. This is the patient developing feelings for therapist, which is transference.

Carmella wasn't threatened by the mistresses. She knew her worth. But with an educated therapist, she feels threatened.

I just want to say that I am really, really enjoying your reactions and discussion. Thank you!
Just as a curiosity, this last scene with Carmela and Tony beside the pool apparently was one of Edie Falco's favourite scenes, one that really made her feel that the Sopranos was special and that the relationship that it portrayed was very real (although I cannot find where I read this right now, so take it with a grain of salt).

Transference & Counter-transference is a phase of psychotherapy where both the patient & the therapist project feelings onto each other that represent the patient’s unresolved conflicts.

one of my favorite episodes from Sopranos due to that impeccable music selection at the end from David Chase
and Steven Van Zandt (aka Silvio lol)

But ofc I also gotta comment on the writing which probably still holds this show among the GOATS along with the acting.
"Hold onto your c*ck when negotiating with these desert people". No matter what gang/mob/cartel you're a part of, political correctness is probably the last thing on your mind. They at least make it somewhat funny so at least you can catch a chuckle instead of feeling completely uncomfortable sans a few parts (if you're easily offended/accustomed to modern mainstream writing)

Agreed. Even Tony is lowkey a bit racist at times, although hes also conflicted about it (id elaborate but spoilers). Junior a cpl.times too. It wouldve been super easy to just omit that (the occasional racism of some characters), the show still wouldve been the megahit it is. But these guys, esp in the late 90s- early 2000s, if this was real life, at least some of them would have some comments about other races. Thats authentic- so they put it in the show, even in the lead character, despite the fact that most ppl disagree with racism & feel uncomfortable seeing Tony showing it bc they like him. I love that about this show-they dont try to make it like "yeah hes a mobster but he's a NICE mobster, hes never racist or sexist ect". They keep it real.

I think it also speaks to the "us vs them" mentality that is featured throughout the series. Hesh is in the business, but he's not Italian, so he's an "other." If he were Irish or Russian or whatever they would use different stereotypes, but the sentiment would be the same. I'm not trying to downplay the blatant antisemitism, I just think Junior's "ball-busting" is primarily a not so subtle reminder that no matter how valuable Hesh may be, he'll never be "one of us." In other words, it's not about what he is, but what he isn't.

Two big introductions in this episode. Not just the FBI angle, but also the New York families.
