This song and the film Manequuin never fail to make me happy, the plot of the film is simple but effective, and this song is the best mood changer if you're having a bad day.
Worth watching the movie. Imho
Its a fun 80’s film, and it has “hollywood” in it. LoL
Mannequin 2 was even better
Classic movie grew up in the 80's
A great film, I loved the guard dog Rambo, possibly Kim Cattrall’s first movie
Amazing movie and the song my wife and I danced to after ceremony
This band was Jefferson Airplane in the 60s, Jefferson Starship in the 70s, and then just Starship in the 80s.
The 80's had something so magical about it, never can be replicated. The music hits your soul.
Positivity...
Yep. That positivity is gone.
Yes I’m so glad I grew up in the 80’s! It was a perfect time to be alive nothing like it
This song made Grace Slick the oldest female artist with a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987 at the age of 47, a record she held until Cher topped the charts 12 years later with Believe at the age of 52.
This band went full circle. Started out as Jefferson Airplane. Then, they decided to be more modern as Jefferson Starship. As the name change happened, Mickey Thomas joined the band as co-lead singer. Then, as founding member Paul Kantor quit the group the group became Starship. In 85 and 86 this band had MONSTER number one hits with We Built This City in 85 and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us in 86. A couple of years later Grace quit the band. A few years later Paul decided to gather the original members and be Jefferson Airplane again.
Rhanks,so I didn't have to type that all out, lol
"Sara" was also a #1 hit, right between those two #1 hits. They were on fire in the 80's!!!
I like Jefferson Starship best. Slick and Balin on lead vocals, although mostly Balin on their hits.
Later Starship became Mickey Thomas' Starship and then Starship featuring Mickey Thomas...
80s shmaltz
Grace Slick is the strong female voice. You reacted to her with "Someone To Love" and "White Rabbit"
"Somebody To Love".
Her solo album track 'dreams' is sensational
Her voice is so iconic 🤩
I was shocked as a kid to learn Grace was well into her 40s here and older than my mom.
Grace Slick is a stellar rock-n-roll singer. But I saw her interviewed once, and she said (paraphrasing): "I am very limited as a singer. I do well at top volume, but if I had to sing a lullaby, forget it."
So many 80's songs had that upbeat, positive, can-do-anything vibe that's missing in today's music. Yes, a lot of it was cheesy, but the music was BIG and had such an amazing, polished sound. I miss that era so much.
Mickey Thomas is one of the greatest singers ever to hit Rock and Roll. He was with Elvin Bishop Band and did FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE.
I never knew he sang that! Thanks!
This song is ordinary, but voice.
Fooled around and fell in love was a great song
yeah, elvin wanted to sing it but it didn't sound right
Two Starship songs you should definitely do are "We Built This City" and "Sara". I had that cassette on replay as a kid. Love them! Thanks Rob Squad.
I love Sara. That's a must react!
I have Sara for my ring tone! I have for the last 5 years! One of the best songs ever!
A 2011 reader poll in "Rolling Stone" magazine voted "We Built This City" the worst song of the '80s, and it wasn't close.
@@JPMadden I love we built this city.
Agree these 2 are a must listen too
80'S MUSIC THE BEST EVER 💯💪💯
I’m 63 and was 20 in 1980! Man Music just got better and better and it was glorious being a musician then!
#1 hit written by one of the greatest songwriters of all-time (Diane Warren). Great tune!!! The group started off as Jefferson Airplane. In the mid 70's, they changed to Jefferson Starship. In the mid 80's, they became simply "Starship."
Diane Warren songs were amazing!
They dropped the "Jefferson" because Paul Kantner left the band and he and Grace Slick jointly owned the name "Jefferson Starship". He declined to allow the band to continue under that name, threatening a lawsuit. The biggest difference between Jefferson Starship and Starship is that Jefferson Starship wrote all of their own material. Starship did not.
Didn't they become Starship just before Tusk came out in 79? I seem to remember radio announcing new song for one band and new name for another.
Next Starship song has to be the mega hit, “we built this city.”
This is from the movie Mannequin with Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy. It was a huge hit at the time along with the song that Starship sang to go with it. Starship used to be Jefferson Starship and they are fantastic. You need to listen to Jane, Sarah, No Way Out, and countless other songs that they have. You already seen Mickey when you did Elvin Bishop Fooled Around and Fell in Love. He was the one who sang that song and I absolutely adore the Starship and him for sure.
Grace and Mickey compliment the vocals. Great song by Starship.
This is from the movie Mannequin starring Kim Cattrall. She is literally a mannequin that this guy can bring to life
Can’t forget about Andrew McCarthy.
@@wanderlustaesthete4117 Indeed! Had such a crush on Andrew McCarthy when I was a kid.
Such a great movie
Also James Spader.
Mickey Thomas is the same singer that sang "Fooled Around and Fell In Love".
I loved this song from the MINUTE it hit the airwaves.
Classic '80's Power Ballard...love it
Jefferson Starship "Sara" (original video) ❤️
No time is a good time for goodbye!!!
" we built this city " was another hit for them ❤️
"We Built This City" is largely considered by a lot of polls on the Internet to be the worst song of all time. It isn't. Don't believe it. The song is actually pretty awesome. But you guys should do it just so you can say that you've done the most hated song of the last century.
We Built This city is pure pop crap. Generally, the later you go in Jefferson Starship and then Starship - the worse it gets. That's not to say there aren't some good or very good songs but the later stuff is mostly crap.
@@neonpark1874 It's catchy as all hell. Not every song has to have some deep meaning. Go listen to your Bob Dylan and drink your haterade.
Such and awesome time to be alive
When she sang, "WOOO HOO"" at the end of the song and the way you both looked at each other just melted my heart.
Anyway, that was beautiful to me.
Guys - this song is one of the many mega hits written by songwriter Diane Warren. Look her up - she wrote some of the biggest hits of the past 35 years.
Co-written with one of my favorite song writers Albert Hammond.
I'm with you Liam, I have many of his albums. Well more than just "Free Electric Band" that is. I've heard this song originally sung by him. A little different. However, he now seems to sing it with this arrangement.
Miracles. My absolute favorite love song ever written, and it's so pretty.
I would up vote this a bunch if I could.
It is such a sexy groove!!! I love it.
Jefferson Starship! ❤️
If you really want to experience 80's music, "We Built This City" cannot be overlooked. It is as 80's as 80's can get, and it's wonderful!
Grace Slick is the OG female rock goddess
From this era of the band I would suggest: "Sara", "Laying it on the Line", and "No way out". From a few years before that try "Jane" which is definitely a Jay style of song. "Miracles"(pre Mickey Thomas) is more of an Amber style of song. Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick are the lead singers. Thomas was the singer for "Fooled around and fell in love" that you reviewed about a month ago.
Miracles is a definitely a must play..
No Way Out is a great song!
A Classic 👍
"Sarah" and "We Built This City" are both really good. Must listen.
My favorite song by Starship is Find Your Way Back. Absolute Banger.
Grace Slick has an amazing voice, mickey Thomas you may have already seen in the video for "Fooled around and fell in love" by Elvin Bishop, Mickey Thomas sang lead on that song. ❤️
For more 80’s ballads try Air Supply “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” “Lost In Love” “All Out Of Love” “Every Woman In The World”
"Making Love (Out Of Nothing At All)" was a Jim Steinman song and has his typical up-to-11 production. And then there's Bonnie Tyler's version...if Air Supply's version is up to 11, hers (also produced by Steinman) takes it up to 12.
I remember hearing this for the first time watching Mannequin as a kid. 😍 Brings back so many feelings and memories. Loved the Brat Pack and how handsome is Andrew McCarthy 💕
one of the most beautiful song of all time for me
Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick really made this song perfect, what a magical duo
That lead guitar also killing Woooowwwww
Intro Keyboard made it so beautifull, Ohh my God, goosebump
I'm still in love with this song, 2024
Starship’s song….. “We Built This City”. On Rock and Roll….. love love love this song too…..
Another huge hit from this era that you guys would love - the one-hit wonder "Waiting For a Star To Fall" by duo Boy Meets Girl (they wrote hits for others, too).
Yes!
Great song !!
One of my favorite 80s songs!
Great song. Written by Prince BTW
@@philipb2378, no it's not. It was written by the song-writing couple who recorded it. They were songwriters primarily - before and after their one-hit wonder. They wrote several hits for other artists, too.
Man, Grace Slick had a voice during those years and beautiful as well. I remember this song being played on the radio constantly. It was a big hit.
Their best song. A timeless 80s classic. The group changed in the times over 30 years and is just a good as they were back then.
Another 80s classic! Great song! Another great Starship song is 'We Built This City'.
Please also check out 'Missing You' by John Waite. Also an 80s classic!
This is a branch off from Jefferson Starship with a few different members from the original. It didn't last too long but they had a few hits in the 80's with Grace Slick & Mickey Thomas singing "Nothing Is Gonna Stop Us Now" in 1987 from the movie "Mannequin". Other songs were "We Built This City" & "Sara".
My son would sing along to "Sara" as he sat in his child car seat in the back of our Toyota Corrolla Hatchback, our first actual car (long story)...my son was 3.
this is one of my fave songs, Im 25 years old and I believe i was born in the wrong century and decade I love the 80s and the songs from that era
I Grew up
In the 80s and this is one of those magical songs that transports me back to the mid 80s.Thx for posting this gem ❤️. This is from the movie manaquin! This movie was all over HBO back in the day!
Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick sound so good together. Two powerful voices. This band has changed several times over the years and it's successful every time. Doesn't happen often.
This takes me back to a glorious time of fun, simple, upbeat songs. The 80's was a magical time!
Powerful ballad! Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick are iconic! So grateful for the technology that preserves these classics!
Jane, is my favourite song by Starship. Rocking guitar solo.
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is from the 1987 movie "mannequin," which is a great, underappreciated '80s movie. Starship is related to Jefferson Starship, which was Jefferson Airplane before. Another Starship song you should listen to is "We Built This City." It rocks and has strong vocals from everyone.
It's funny that you mention that, "We Built This City" was listed as the worst song from the 80's but I loved it!
Theme from the classic film Mannequin starring Kim Catrall as a literal mannequin. And Andrew McCarthy as the totally not delusional guy who thinks she's real and falls in love with her.
The 80s.
Packed.
Written by Grammy winner Diane Warren.
Great 80s movie... a must watch comedy romance. They came out with a sequel but it wasn't anything special. Kim Cattrall of Sex in the City fame is the love interest. At the beginning of the movie you find out that the woman was an Egyptian princess who was disobedient and didn't want to be put into an arranged marriage. She prays to the gods to help her find true love and her spirit is cursed. You find all this out in the opening scene.
In that video they substitute the lead singer of Starship (Grace Slick) for the mannequin sometimes. She is the brunette. The blonde you see sometimes is Kim
@@rray848 Love this movie
Am I wrong in thinking this movie had an element of Police Academy about it, maybe some of the actors playing the cops are in both movies, maybe because it has the same comedic style. If anyone knows let me know.
@@mattpotter8725 Looking at the Writers, Producer, and Director none of them match. You are right about the actor that played the security guard being the guy from Police Academy. It might be his style of comedy that the character had similarities.
Our song from the 80’s……….❤
The look of Amazement and then to Pure Joy when Grace slick starts singing on Ambers Face is priceless.
Jefferson airplane to Jefferson Starship to Starship. Name changes due to personnel changes and legal reasons.
Grace Slick is singing here as she was in the Jefferson Airplane you reacted to.
Male vocalist is Mickey Thomas.
That male lead singer, Mickey Thomas, is also the lead singer in Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love that you reacted to previously.
Absolute banger of a song. Sick. The guy killed the guitar solo too. Makes you feel good..
I love this song very much & the movie. You guys should watch it. It’s awesome.
Mannequin was a cool romcom. This was during a comeback period for Starship in the '80s. We built this city and Sara were big for them in the '80s as well. Check out anything 38 Special, you'll love it
This song is very special to us. Right around the time this was a hit, my husband and I got back together (after a 3 year 'hiatus' ....we were on a break!! LOL!!)
We listened to this song every day and we still consider it 'our' song. (along with "Groovy Kind of Love' by Phil Collins!!)
Some thought we were making a mistake and we wouldn't last.
We proved them wrong. We are celebrating 32 years of marriage this year. 34 years together and 38 years since we first met.
#Nothing'sGonnaStopUsNow
80s music was well produced! Studios were getting it down! Always keep that snail drum up along with the bass drum to feel the music.
My favorite Starship song.
Thank you guys.
Reo Speedwagon... Cant fight this feeling anymore.... one of the better ballads of this type
Gotta love the mullet.
When Grace Slick sings, it`s gold.
Watching your sheer enjoyment when the chorus hits! That's what this song is supposed to do. : - )
And he took her for a ride on his Harley...awesome. Wind therapy works.
Finally, the later incarnation of Jefferson Airplane, featuring the amazing Grace Slick (the vocalist in "White Rabbit") and Mickey Thomas (the vocalist on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"). I'm sure you guys will get around to "We Built This City" eventually, but IMHO "It's Not Enough" and "Sara" are better songs. This song was used in the 80s movie "Mannequin" starring Andrew McCarthy and Sex in the City's Kim Cattrall.
Listen to Sara. 35 years later it still gives me chills.
this song brings me back in time to my best years of my life of my childhood
Thought for sure that Amber would recognize Grace Slick's voice from the Woodstock videos, but she did look a lot different almost 20 years later with the big 80s hair. Grace and Janis were good friends who led two of the biggest bands to come out of San Francisco in the hippie era : Big Brother and the Holding Co. and Jefferson Airplane.
Also, please do "Jane" as others have suggested. Go back and listen to "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" to hear Mickey Thomas' stellar voice.
yes yes to both of these.
J/Amber, you'll love Jefferson Starships "Miracles", "Count On Me" and "Play On Love". Chronologically it was Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and then Starship. You need a scorecard to keep track of the personnel! Grace Slick was in all 3.
One of the best Jefferson Starship songs... Runaway..... It brings back instant memories of the summer after my senior year. And the hook will be (pleasantly) stuck in your head!
The lady singer is Catherine E. Richardson (born February 21, 1969) an American singer, songwriter, actress, and narrator from the Chicago suburbs in Illinois. She is the lead singer for the band Jefferson Starship and her own Cathy Richardson Band, and has performed the Janis Joplin parts for Joplin's former band Big Brother and the Holding Company.
If you want something from Jefferson Starship - the iteration of this band between Jefferson Airplane and Starship - try the songs Miracles or Runaway.
You might throw "Ride The Tiger" in there too.
Love this one! Also my fave by them is Miracles but you will be hearing another talented lead singer on that track and its Marty Balin (he also had a record of his own that's awesome called Hearts) also with Marty that I love by them are Count On Me and With Your Love..2 more great songs to check out! Keep On Rockin'
Mickey Thomas is one of the very best male singers...Period. From the Elvin Bishop Group to Starship. This guy is the best.
Awesome group, great sound. “Familiar Stranger” , “No Way Out” and “ Find Your Way Back” are fantastic
Mickey Thomas was the singer for Elvin Bishop song ( Fooled Around And Fell In Love ) that you reacted to a few weeks ago.. Mickey formed his own band Starship he's awesome .
Actually, Mickey, joined Jefferson Starship, that became just Starship…..but you are right he is awesome.
One of my all-time favorite songs! It's from the movie "Mannequin" which is also one my all-time favorite films!
Hi Jay and Amber the guy singing the vocals is Mickey Thomas, the same guy who sings Fooled Around and Fell In Love by Elvin Bishop. Excellent vocals on the man and underrated.
One of the best 80’s songs of all times by Starships! Mickey Thomas is definitely one of the most underrated singers of all times, in my opinion! So you guys MUST listen to their one of the biggest hits in the 80’s called “We Built This City” !!! Y’all are gonna love it!! 👍🏼
Awesome band!! “Miracle” is my favorite!!🤘🔥
Miracles
God I miss the 80s. Was such a great decade
The great Grace Slick of the 1960's pioneering incarnation of Jefferson Airplane, then the reformed and updated version in the 70's, Jefferson Starship, then a final line-up change called Starship. She is a rock icon of that era. True story: I missed hanging with Grace some 15 years ago. I was doing some editing work with one of her friends (RIP Bara). We were scheduled to work at Bara's seaside Malibu apartment in the evening, but she called to delay because a friend was stopping by. It was only when I got there I learned that friend was Grace Slick! I remember grabbing my face, spinning in circles, shouting, "Why didn't you tell me!?" Maybe it was a good thing, because I would have probably been hitting on her the whole time! Sure, she was well into her 60's, but "Nothing Would Have Stopped Me," then, or now! Hi Grace! Call me! I have Bara stories. Halloween 2006, the fire...
This was a #1 hit in 1987! In 1988, Starship released "It's Not Enough" and it's a banger! Please react to it. Thanks! This one is a banger! Enter Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick.
I think it could be fun that you react next to "We built this city" by starship. It is a controversy of a song. It received a grammy award to best rock vocal performance by duo but it also has been top of many many lists of worst songs ever. I find it awesome. everytime i hear it it brings me joy and autentic smile. I'd love to hear your opinions. also, if you ever do a movie reaction channel, go check mannequin, the movie that this song is from, so fun
Seriously! I don't understand why that song is considered so bad. Of all the terrible songs in Rock History? It makes no sense to me. I love it. I would put Sara WAY below We Built this City. That song bores me to tears. And I am a HUGE fan of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Starship had a few good songs.
Omg!
Love the song
Love the band
Love the movie
This is in my top 5 take me back, feel good tunes.
Could listen to it all day long.
Love it 💕
Love this song, classic
Grace Slick is the female lead in this band. She was there from the start and through all the changes from Jefferson Airplane to Starship.
Formally known as Jefferson Airplane 😀
Miracles is an amazing love song from Jefferson Starship, definitely worth a listen. Count on Me and With your Love are two more great songs.
Another great by starship is We Built This City
This is from the comedy movie "Mannequin". You guys have a lot of catching up to do when you start your movie reviews. :)
You should check out my absolute favorite by Starship called "Sara". His voice in that song....wow. The song and video just get to me.
I also like "We Built This City".
Great reaction, yes Grace Slick has a powerful voice and Mickey Thomas compliments her vocals well. But y’all need to check out their song ‘ Sara ‘, Mickey’s vocals show great range and shines on this one.
I’ll be honest- and I didn’t want to admit it at first… but mickey is far superior to be frank. His tone and range are phenomenal. I never even realized at first back then that he was the one hitting all the falsetto high notes. Both great singers though.
one of the happiest, most affirmative chorus in all of the 'eighties!
Grace Slick sang the iconic song Somebody to Love with J.Airplane. To me she's one of the greatest singers ever. I enjoy both Airplane and Starship.
OMG - you guys just put me in my happy place!!! This is from Mannequin where she comes alive at night - and has a love story with the main lead. Jordan - you got so into the song with your eyes shut - that you totally missed the cool ending of the video. Where the lead singers also turned into mannequins at the very end. Getting TOO lost in the music - sometimes makes you miss some awesome video moments. Especially in 80's videos. On that note I'd like to put in a request for the official Legs video by ZZ Top. Cheers from Canada :)
Kim Cattrell (the mannequin) is a bloody legend & i absolutely support her 100% over the Sex & The City drama. Love this song💖💖💖
I've always loved this song! This is one of the strongest, most written choruses ever! It is from the movie "Maniquin."
I love this song!!!!!
Another great 80s song that is from a great movie is St Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) - John Parr. You should definitely check that one out. It's a banger!!!
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!
Truth! ua-cam.com/video/dx7vNdAb5e4/v-deo.html Though my favorite musical moment from the movie might’ve been Andrew McCarthy playing the bongos to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”.
