14 years old, at the skating rink.. the floor absolutely FILLED UP for this one.. good times 👍
In a song about the loss of innocence and naivete, Amber manages to be completely innocent and naïve. Beautiful!!!
Isn’t she the sweetest?! I love her!
The look on her face when the false ending kicked into high gear. I thought she was going to start floating.
I love that they both are so caught up in the 80's music they both are naive to the reality the Angel is now a prostitute.
I guess Amber shouldn't listen to Billy Idol's Dancing with myself... ;-)
Hilarious! I was thinking to myself: "Amber's gonna have this one nailed in no time..."! But NO! Gotta love it, and you both!
True story! It happened to the lead singer, Peter Wolf. He was flipping through a men's magazine at a newsstand, turned to the centerfold, and recognized his high school classmate!
Every teenaged boy had a home school angel……
“Freeze Frame”, “Love Stinks”, and “Must Of Got Lost” are necessities. All three classics. Peter Wolf is an amazing performer. 💜💜💜
Woofa Goofa,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
I completely agree with those suggestions, but let's not forget J. Geils version of Land of a Thousand Dances and the retro classic I Do which is a huge banger.
FREEZE FRAME!
FREEZE FRAME!
“Freeze Frame” by them is the jammy-jam!
@@LordEagle “…with the green teeth! Let me in!”
Check out "Freeze frame", "Flame thrower", "Love stinks", "Angel in blue", "Rage in the cage". Lead singer Peter Wolf says he was inspired by Mick Jagger and showed it as the front man for the group.
Love Freeze Frame
Whammer Jammer
Freeze Frame!!
Freeze Frame!
Yes, "Freeze Frame" should come next.
As many others have said I will never forget hearing this song, technically I was a pre teen, but it had an effect on me for sure. Love the band. So glad you enjoyed so much of this band.
This is one song where listening carefully to the lyrics pays off.
"Wammer Jammer" the harmonica on that will rock your socks off
Oh Lordy! The guys sang this to me all throughout high school. I blamed my parents for naming me Angel. Lol
Man, Amber, those lyrics were crystal clear.
Sixties Seventies and Eighties BEST years for music that will last forever and NEVER get old for years to come....
We actually had a teacher in middle school who it was discovered had previously appeared in an adult magazine. This song was for real for many teen boys. Ooh la la. She was the French teacher.
Gold star to Jay! Yep, this is about a man who, as a teenager, had a massive crush on a girl in his homeroom, a girl who was so perfect, sweet, and pure, he thought of her as angelic, and he felt he couldn't touch such a wholesome, innocent girl. She stayed that way in his head...until he saw her in that girly magazine. At first he's upset and confused, then comes the lyric, "Oh no, I can't deny it, oh yeah, I guess I gotta buy it (the magazine)". Now he's going to track her down, admit his crush, and take a shot with her.
'Flame Thrower' is another great song by them!
Fun song. The other big hit from them (they had several, but the one that casual listeners remember) is "Freeze Frame," and that's a bop, too!
Love Stinks!
I must have got lost
Come As You Are (Peter Wolf solo song, #1 Mainstream Rock chart 1987)
Those are their bubblegum songs. Down an dirty bluesy funky rock. One of the most underrated bands ever.
Hit it right on the nose Jay! Another big hit from J Geils is LOVE STINKS
Well, I have the microphone and you don't. SO YOU WILL LISTEN TO EVERY DAMN WORD I HAVE TO SAY!!!
Soft fuzzy sweaters too magical touch. I love that line!
100 % correct !! Your angel is centerfold................
Come Back, Love Stinks & Freeze Frame all big hits for this band.
The title of the song is Centerfold and she “never would have guessed” what it was about? Oh Amber, you are so pure. 😇
LOL. Yeah, I had to stop the video cause her confusion made me laugh so hard. 🤣
Even after he explained it you could just tell she wasn’t really paying attention to the rest of the song
Imagine her reaction when she realizes that 75% of 70s and 80s rock is about sex! hahahaha
I think you'll find most younger people not really being aware of what a "centerfold" is. Playboy's circulation has been in decline for some time (obviously due to the Internet).
@ I guess there aren't as many pop culture referencs to centrefolds these days.
YAY!! I recommended this! I thought you would enjoy it! I feel so special!!😊😊
I was a little kid when this hit the charts and I *loved* it, it was so catchy. They were one of my favorite bands. I also still remember asking my Dad what a "centerfold" was, too. :) To his credit, he managed to keep a straight face and explain "When making magazines, they fold the paper, so that the center of the magazine is the centerfold... and... uh... well... some grown-up magazines have pictures of women in that centerfold." Miss you, Dad!! ❤
Stop lying, we watched the video for the girls. It was my favorite video as a young boy.
@@lukeskywalker902 Speak for yourself. I don't know how old you were at the time, but I wasn't much of a horndog checking out women when I was only 7 years old. ;)
Kind of like Forrest Gump seeing Jenny in Playboy.
40 years later it's still a fun tune. Love the milk splashing up from the snare.
Jennnaayyyyy! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! LOL
Oh, man, I was 14 when this album came out and "Centerfold" was a HUGE hit on MTV. One of the catchiest pop tunes ever, probably.
Ha, so you are also 54ish. I bought the 45 and was only able to listen to it a few times until my mom heard it, then it was gone. 😥
@@jen_alanfromchicago53 Between that and throwing away comic book collections, mom can excel at ruining fun.
@@pauld6967 Someday I'll tell you guys about the day my mom suddenly decided we needed to flip the mattress on my bed. Unfortunately, I had 3 Playboy Magazines stuffed between the mattress and the box spring, and there was no time to transfer them somewhere else in my room, so with her on one side of the bed, and me on the other, I preemptively flipped my end up first, so that her edge of my mattress slid along the top of the box spring towards me. So then I grabbed hold of the magazines & carefully maneuvered them across the top of the box spring, making sure the tilted mattress blocked her view.
I'm telling you, that was a close one !! It was a maneuver you'd think you would only see in a movie.
@@stevejoshua9536 Yes,...we can be inventive little scamps.
Nice new rabbit hole you're going down, the best party band ever
Thats EXACTLY what its about .
J Geils was the only rock group I ever saw that had the audience dancing in the aisles from the opening number to the final encore.Awesome Group.
Yep, been there done that :) They put on such a great show.
Only The Dead was better live
J. Geils Band concerts were legendary! Don't know if you are into instrumentals, but if so, you might try their song "Whammer Jammer" featuring Magic Dick on harmonica. Good rockin' for sure.
yasssssssssssss the BOUNCE.
Amber, don't feel bad. This song came out when I was 8, and all we did was dance to it because it was a fun beat. It wasn't until years later when I realized just what this band was singing about! Still fun! lol
Haha. Same here. I was 10.
Lots of great music from this band. Enjoy.
Love Stinks is a must hear!!!
WAS A HUGE SONG ON EARLY 80S. WE ALL LOVED IT.
Fun fact: the lead singer is Peter Wolf. I'm an Uber and Lyft driver and I gave him a ride a few years back during SXSW here in Austin. It was about a 20-minute conversation. He was really nice. I believe he was on the way to do something with meatloaf or at least have a conversation with him.
This band had some 80s bangers- this song, "Freeze Frame", "Love Stinks", singer Peter Wolf's solo song "Come As You Are".
How many Gen Xers here heard these songs at the roller rink? :)
Definitely roller-rink songs! Though when I was skating at Rollermagic in South Amboy, NJ as a kid (RIP Rollermagic), I was too young and naive to know the meaning of this song.
✋me
Peter Wolf's solo song "Light's Out" is also good.
✋ And “Flamethrower” was a staple of the arcade where I spent way too many hours playing Tempest.
See my comment.
Love it that Rob was getting the story right away, the guy singing about his "proper garden tool".
"Love Stinks" really stands out as another fun one from these guys.
Peter Wolf and the rest of the band were animals when they hit the stage. Legendary concerts....
This was a huge hit when I was in junior high. Yes, it was a "girlie" magazine not a lingerie magazine.
Its on my 80s playlist. Also their FREEZE FRAME hit.
It may be that young folk aren't really aware of girlie magazines so much. Modern porn delivery takes place via internet.
Yes, she was NUDE - not in a negligee, which is why he says his "blood ran cold"
OMG I WAS SMILING EAR TO EAR WATCHING YOU BOTH ENJOY THIS AWEWSOME SONG !!! LOVE THAT !!!
Rob is right. That is what the song is about. Finding his high school sweetheart in the pages of a girly magazine. Such a great, fun song.
Freeze Frame is another huge hit from the J. Geils band.
His angel was in a girly magazine , meaning playboy or penthouse were they had the Centerfolds!
Also check out "Van Halen - Hot for Teacher"
“U Got 2 Give It 2 Me” by J. Geils Band 💯🔥🤙🏽😎!!!!!!
"A part of me has just been ripped! The pages of my mind are stripped. Oh no, I can't deny it. Oh yeah, I guess I gotta buy it!" LOLOL
Yes!! So much fun with this band - "Love Stinks" and "Freeze-Frame" next, please! Thanks!
The J Geils Band was awesome in concert. I saw them during the "LOVE STINKS" tour. Had seats of the floor about 5 rows from the side of the stage. His Sax player came up and was playing standing in one of the seats behind us.
My brother loved J. Giels. So many memories. Both J. Giels and my brother gone now.
A centerfold I’d the part of a magazine that folds out to 4 pages, so it’s super big. He saw her in a ‘neglige’ big time. Lol
Don't worry Amber, We love you anyway...Sometimes you just gotta have fun with a song and just vibe. It doesn't matter what it's about when the beat is that fun.
OMG Amber's face when she realized Jay was right....
😂😂😂
Best live band of the 70’s and early 80’s
I was listening to them in the early 70s. Seen them 1983 Dallas TX. I sit on the second row. And I threw a joint on stage. Groovy times
J.GEILS BAND MUST HEAR CLASSICS,, "GIVE IT TO ME",, "MUST OF GOT LOST",, "BACK TO GET YA" & "SOUTHSIDE SHUFFLE"
Does she walk? Does she talk?
Does she come complete?
My homeroom, homeroom angel
Always pulled me from my seat
She was pure like snowflakes
No one could ever stain
The memory of my angel
Could never cause me pain
Years go by I'm lookin' through a girly magazine
And there's my homeroom angel on the pages in-between
My blood runs cold
My memory has just been sold
My angel is the centerfold
Angel is the centerfold
My blood runs cold
My memory has just been sold
Angel is the centerfold
Slipped me notes under the desk
While I was thinkin' about her dress
I was shy I turned away
Before she caught my eye
I was shakin' in my shoes
Whenever she flashed those baby-blues
Something had a hold on me
When angel passed close by
Those soft and fuzzy sweaters
Too magical to touch
To see her in that negligee
Is really just too much
This used to be played at every dance, nightclub, and cabaret back in the 80's.
"Come Back" & "Love Stinks' are their best stuff - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌☮
it is so cute innocent little Amber didnt get it
I was waiting for Amber to realize what the song was about. LOL it took her so long even after Jay tried to fill her in. Moment of understanding at the motel room. She Got it then. So funny, I look forward to your videos everyday!!!
Spent a lot of time on the dance floor moving to this song.
"Detroit Breakdown", "first I look at the purse", so many good Geils tunes....
J Geils Band has a wide variety of song styles. Centerfold is like an 80s pop song. Freeze Frame has kind of a New Wave style to it. Love Stinks is just an angry rock song. I do remember skating to this at 10 at the skating rink in my hometown and had no clue what the song was about til I got older.
Same, whenever I hear this or Mickey by Toni Basil it takes me back to skating in the 80s 😄
Loved Freeze Frame
ahahah I just commented that this song reminded me of roller skating. I guess it was big at all the skating rinks.
The best song from "Love Stinks" is "Come Back". The musicianship in that song is off the chain!
Another great band who doesn't always get enough acclaim now days Peter Wolfs great singing
You have a goal, to make someone smile, correct?
Well, I gotta say, Amber's smile, makes me smile. !! 😁😃😀
songs like this made the 80s fun MTV was actually playing videos and we lived!
Peter Wolf is an incredible front man, so much energy live.
J. Geils best songs-- House Party, Give It To Me, Must Have Got Lost & Lookin' For A Love. They're the BEST !!!!!!!!
I remember roller skating to this as a tween, lol They played it over & over when it came out! Lol
Grew up with these guys. Need to listen to more of there stuff. Love to see Young people enjoying this music best out the . 71 baby
Hand claps, "Na-na-na"s *and* whistling - this song has it all! And they rhyme "drive it" with "private"!!
…and “oh well, guess I gotta buy it!” 🤣🤣
This is an amazing classic. You'll also love their song "Freeze Frame".
Some other great storytelling songs are "In the Year 2525" by Zager & Evans, "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot, and "The Letter" by The Box Tops.
Also Dire Straits, 'Romeo and Juliet'
I was able to see these guys a few times, they were one o f the best party bands of the 70'S. Great band!,
This album was the first cassette tape I ever got for my first cassette tape player. Good Memory from my youth!
When I was in high school on drill team, we did a routine to Centerfold. How are parents didn't complain is beyond me. It was the early 80's.
Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells, please!!
Woman play so innocent !! Aww shucks, just like anber 😂😭😂😭😂😭😂
My step brother Roy had somewhat the experience related in this song. Before he went to Vietnam in 1970,he was dating a young lady who had a tween-age sister who he never really thought much of.But in the summer of 1978 he opened up the latest Playboy magazine, turned to the centerfold and THERE SHE WAS (Janet Quist)!
This is one of four standout songs by JGB. The other three are "Love Stinks" (funny but kind of not, especially viewed through the lens of adolescence), "Freeze Frame" (a banger with a hook every bit as big as the "na na's" in this one), and "Piss On The Wall" (angry and sullen, again made more poignant through the lens of adolescence). JGB's entire catalog is criminally underrated, though, imho.
Please give Whammer Jammer a listen...... you will not be dissapointed.
Freeze Frame is another good one by J. Veils Band!
Man I miss the eighties, even more I miss the Women of the eighties...Pure Class!! Thanks guys.
This is what the 80s childhood was like. This was a staple song at every early 80s roller rink.
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police should be next!
You've got to do their song off their Live album, "Musta Got Lost"!
"Hold on this song has a little introduction to it It ain't supposed to be sad though you might feel it that way It's a song about desperation, Every now and then we do get desperate This is a song about L-O-V-E, And if you abuse it you're gonna lose it And if you lose it..."
The wooba gooba with green teeth...........Love it
Andy & Alex say super nice things about you. They asked for their subscribers to suggest a song from other reaction channels and they got a heads up on THIS reaction. They asked for their subscribes who haven't checked you out to do so. Just thought you would like to know. I LOVE the idea of you guys cross promoting each other.
That slam dunk on interpreting the lyrics.
There ain't nothin' like a J. Geils Houseparty.
One of the best live bands. I saw Peter Wolf (the singer) a couple years ago, still full of energy.
I love the reaction when you 2 think the song is over, then you start so happily jamming away.
Putting J Geils on full bore in the car and zotting down the road singing at the top of your voice, again and again ❤
This was one of the most popular music videos when it came out - so different than everything else.
I listened to this song so much as a kid, i literally still remember every word he sang!!!
I know people will want you to listen to Freeze Frame and Love Stinks, but the live version of Musta Got Lost w/intro is worth it for the intro alone. The song is also pretty good. 👍
Whenever I hear this
Song which is rarely on a play list, it is mesmerizing to the very end!
RIP Peter Wolf. Such a great performer. His lady love at this time was Faye “ mommie dearest” Dunaway.
This was a hit in 1981. I was 17, and it was a great time to be that age.
Another hit for them was "Freeze-Frame", again in 1981.
Yes J Geils! Check out "Freeze Frame", "Must of Got Lost", "Come Back" (a personal fave - a banger with one of the best intros!), "Give It To Me", "Love Stinks", "Flamethrower", "Sanctuary".
I love "Come Back". It's a REALLY fun song to play.
Woofa Goofa,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
@@sox5131 Awesome! You play the guitar or keyboard part?
@@ZG1967 Just the guitar-the slide down the neck is the fun part.
Yeah that's what he meant by The Term Girlie magazine J Guiles has really fun and great music
Rob nailed it right from jump!
Their catalog of music is well worth a listen... Brings me back to my Junior/High school days!!!
A Boston band that I grew up with as a teenager. They'd play in my hometown of Hull, Mass at a place called the Surf Ballroom. They were a great rock and blues band. I got to see them one last time at the House of Blues in Boston as a pre Grand Opening party. R.I.P. J. Geil.
#bostonstrong!
Got to see them open for Aerosmith boy was it smoky inside the Garden that night lol
If you noticed he says a line "my memory has just been sold". I always took that to mean that his memory of her body (which should never be seen by someone else if they are going steady) has now been sold to the masses through the magazine. So if he's seen her body before she was a Centerfold.... then she wasn't "quite" the angel he sets her up to be. Lol.
FUN SONG ! 👍🏼🤩
