This is awesome ty ... I do have a question..? I tried pulling up the Amazon links for the cup turners and the motors but it won't pull up. What is the name of the products you have
I know exactly what you mean! I get a couple every now and then that I have to get my husband to take apart for me. But most of the tipsi can get myself.
I've seen some use Vaseline over the dowels to prevent it from sticking to the pen when epoxy dries... I notice you didn't do that but didn't mention if it was difficult for you to remove the pens from the dowels. What is your trick to keeping the epoxy off the dowels
In my other epoxy glitter pen update video, I do mention using Vaseline to help keep epoxy of the dowels but I am VERY careful when I epoxy the pens so I don't ever have issues with getting the pens off of the dowel rods.
The turner keeps the epoxy even and smooth as the epoxy hardens, making the pen nice and smooth. The alternative would be to do a pen with UV resin, which requires a UV lamp to cure. I have some other videos that show how to make them using UV resin. ua-cam.com/video/Iw1GhJiB9yQ/v-deo.html
You're very welcome! Please let me know if you have any questions at all! Also, don't use too much heat when you are taking off the clip because it can cause the pen to warp slightly which will make it difficult to get the guts back inside.
How much epoxy do you use for just one pen? Also after added the base coat of expoxy and first glitter how long do you wait until you add more epoxy? Thanks for the video!

Yes ma'am, the Epoxy goes over the rubber part with no issues at all. Check out the updated video that I just posted this morning about the epoxy pens when you get a chance, it discusses the epoxy going over the rubber part.
Love the tutorial! Thanks so much! Quick question though.. If I applied the glitter with the epoxy method and accidentally scratched some off😬, can I mod podge over the glitter before applying the top coat of epoxy?
So cool!! Where do you find the refills? I was asking a friend if she would buy one and she said can you refill them and I thought you could but I can not find them anywhere! I would like to be able to make them and sell them with a refill thought it might be more enticing that way... wdyt?? Thanks for the tutorial!!
Someone said they found refills on Amazon but I couldn't find them. If they want to refill them, they could simply take the ink from inside a plain inkjoy pen and put it in their pretty pen if they can't find the refills.
I am very new at this and am looking into making pens. I am curious on the turner, is that something that is 100% necessary? I don’t have the supplies for that, is it only for certain epoxies because needing to be cured or..? Is there a way to do it without needing the turner?
A turner is very helpful if you are using a two part epoxy that takes hours to dry. You can actually do this with UV resin and a nail lamp or UV light. I will actually be putting a tutorial out this weekend showing how to make a pen using UV resin.. you can literally make a pen in an hour with the uv resin.
You weren’t afraid that the pens would drip epoxy onto each other when you put them on the same Turner? Did you put them on the same Turner for balance purposes?
@@KristisCustomCreations thanks I don’t think the ball point ones will work the clip is bigger compared to the ink held ones, guess I have to buy the right ones lol
@@KristisCustomCreations u are very welcome.. I was wondering if u could recommend an alternative to epoxy resin.. I have animals and small children.. thank you so much ☺️
@@jenniferscraftynook5626 epoxy is considered toxic until it's fully cured. It is recommended to wear PPE (personal protection equipment) when working with epoxy. I don't know anything about Crystalac (or however it is spelled) but it's my understanding that that is supposed to be non-toxic.
Do you need to turn It while the epoxy is drying? Could you just stand It up to dry? I don’t have anything that can turn the pens If I were to make some for myself
Yes ma'am, it would need to spin for at least 4-5 hours before being set up to finish drying. Another alternative would be to use UV resin which cures very quickly under a UV light
Papermate Inkjoy is the only pen I've used so far because the clip on it can be easily removed. I'm sure if you could find any other pens that are similar you might could do it to those also. 🤷🏼♀️😊
I haven't tried UV resin on them but I don't think UV resin is self-leveling. I'm sure you can but you may run in to issues with the pens being really smooth. If you decide to try it, please let me know how it works out!
I honestly haven't ever used UV Resin but if you are able to cure it as the pen spins then you may possibly be able to use it. I've watched numerous videos on UV Resin but I enjoy working with regular epoxy so I never purchased any. If you do happen to try it, will you PLEASE let me know how it turns out? I would really like to know!
Yes, it would need to spin for the epoxy (resin) to lay evenly. If you didn't spin it, the Epoxy would all gather down at one end. If you are using the UV resin, I would think that you could spin it by hand under the light since the light cures it super quick.
@@KristisCustomCreations okay, thank you so much for all the help!! And your pens turned out AMAZING! You did such a great job explaining everything ❤❤
I have followed all the steps but when I get to the part of putting the pieces back in the silver clicker does not fit and I have been careful not go get epoxy in the barrel of the pen... what are your tips for this?
Make sure that you don't add too much heat when you are sanding off the clip and you can even try an exacto knife to get the nub from where the clip was versus the sandpaper. If you put too much heat on it when softening that nub from the clip, it can warp the pen and cause the guts of the pen to not slide back into place properly. I hope that makes sense.
@@michelleruiz4386 I also found that you can insert a straw at the end of the clicker and it will keep the epoxy from doing down in the barrel and also it pulls away when the epoxy if dry and you can just trim it up!
I use multiple different epoxies but in this tutorial I used fast set for every step except the very last one. The last step I used Faux Rizzle UV. Other epoxies that I like to use are Tumblerpoxy, KS Liquidy Split UV, and StoneCoat Quick Coat (but not for final coat). I hope this helps!
@@salon381 I didn't use UV resin for my final step.. I used Faux Rizzle UV Epoxy. It just means that it was UV inhibitors in it to keep it from yellowing, not that it's a UV resin. I'm sorry for the confusion.
You possibly could if you could figure out a way to tape it off but I think you would run in to an issue with getting the glitter and epoxy underneath the clip. I'm not sure how you could do it and keep the clip. 🤷🏼♀️
I loved your tutorial! I tried the pencil method the first time but somehow I got epoxy inside and they got stuck to the pencils😂😂 at least I have extra pen refills now

I have a question (if anyone can answer), when I read directions for Epoxy, they usually say “temperature need to be at least 70* when mixing epoxy” (or whatever temperature it is) but it doesn’t say that needs to be the temperature for it to cure/dry. Does the temp have to still be 70* or does the temp matter for it to cure/dry? Only wondering bc directions don’t say.
@@KristisCustomCreations I was just double checking. My house is an older house & it’s very drafty.
@@KristisCustomCreations thank you again.. I look forward to watching more of videos.. have a great day 💗
@@jenniferscraftynook5626 thank you so much! And you have a great day as well!
Hey! How long do you let them turn for?
Hey there! I let them turn for about 4-6 hours depending on how warm my room is
About what size do you make the font to fit on the pens?
I make my font 1/2" x 4"
@@KristisCustomCreations awesome! Thanks for your quick response!
@@amandal0510 you're very welcome! 🥰
I just want to make sure but... you only lightly sand the edges right?
Yes ma'am 😊
What could I use instead of the turner?
Anything that would keep the pen spinning so that the epoxy lays flat. I'm not really sure what you could use to spin it without a turner though.
Is there a way to do this without a turner?
It would probably be difficult to do without a turner because you need the turner to spin the pen so that the epoxy lays smoothly.
Beside the papermate inkjoy retractable gel pens what pen can be used!
Papermate Inkjoy is the only pen I've used so far because the clip on it can be easily removed. I'm sure if you could find any other pens that are similar you might could do it to those also. 🤷🏼♀️😊
How long do you let them turn after each epoxy?
About 4 -6 hours
Can you use UV resin to make these?
I haven't tried UV resin on them but I don't think UV resin is self-leveling. I'm sure you can but you may run in to issues with the pens being really smooth. If you decide to try it, please let me know how it works out!
I have UV resin from a previous project I was attempting at and failed lol. Can I use that instead of epoxy? Or is my best bet to use the epoxy?
I honestly haven't ever used UV Resin but if you are able to cure it as the pen spins then you may possibly be able to use it. I've watched numerous videos on UV Resin but I enjoy working with regular epoxy so I never purchased any. If you do happen to try it, will you PLEASE let me know how it turns out? I would really like to know!
@@KristisCustomCreations of course!! Thank you for the reply ❤❤ now does it have to spin? Or can I just let it sit? First time doing this, sorry!!
Yes, it would need to spin for the epoxy (resin) to lay evenly. If you didn't spin it, the Epoxy would all gather down at one end. If you are using the UV resin, I would think that you could spin it by hand under the light since the light cures it super quick.
And don't apologize! Ask as many questions as you need!! That's how we all learn! 🥰
@@KristisCustomCreations Yes Thank you. I am trying it with out heat now. So Cross Fingers!!!!! Thank you
You're very welcome! Please let me know if you have any other questions! 🥰
This happened to me I just did my first pens and I was freaking out why didn’t it fit inside again now I know. 😊
@@michelleruiz4386 I also found that you can insert a straw at the end of the clicker and it will keep the epoxy from doing down in the barrel and also it pulls away when the epoxy if dry and you can just trim it up!
What epoxy do you use? Do you think you could use a fast set on these?
I use multiple different epoxies but in this tutorial I used fast set for every step except the very last one. The last step I used Faux Rizzle UV. Other epoxies that I like to use are Tumblerpoxy, KS Liquidy Split UV, and StoneCoat Quick Coat (but not for final coat). I hope this helps!
Why did you use the uv for your final step and do you need a special light for it?
@@salon381 I didn't use UV resin for my final step.. I used Faux Rizzle UV Epoxy. It just means that it was UV inhibitors in it to keep it from yellowing, not that it's a UV resin. I'm sorry for the confusion.
So what if you want to keep the clip ?
You possibly could if you could figure out a way to tape it off but I think you would run in to an issue with getting the glitter and epoxy underneath the clip. I'm not sure how you could do it and keep the clip. 🤷🏼♀️
I loved your tutorial! I tried the pencil method the first time but somehow I got epoxy inside and they got stuck to the pencils😂😂 at least I have extra pen refills now
Lol! I'm very careful to not get Epoxy inside the pens but I liked using the skewers much better than the pencil. The pens felt so much more secure on the skewers. 😊
@@KristisCustomCreations thank for you for the tip and reply. I’m def going to try the skewers with the shelf liner this time! They are too cute not to try at least 1 more time :)
Please let me know how they turn out for you!!! They are so cute! You can definitely do this! 🥰
@@rebeckaharvey4378 oh no! Try taking a craft knife and VERY carefully try popping it out
Do you sand epoxy after the first coat?
I sand after the second coat
@@KristisCustomCreations do you apply another coat after sanding?
@@savannahcreel1270 yes, I apply epoxy after sanding the second coat. If you don't then it wouldn't be shiny. The third coat is my final coat and it makes them beautiful like glass
I love this tutorial! I’m so glad I stumbled on to your UA-cam! Can you tell me what height and width the leopard print decal is?
Thanks for watching!!! I believe the leopard prints were 1.5"x2"
What if you don’t have a blow torch?
Could we get a explanation or tutorial video on the crafting table .. I need get my husband on that right away ..possibly he could build another and make video
Have you seen this video where I did an overview of my table? I would like to try to get him to build another for tutorial purposes but that's gonna take a lot of sweet talking! HAHA ua-cam.com/video/8H04Kb47pYg/v-deo.html
About how much does it cost to get started?
Can you use the gorilla glue craft epoxy?
I have a question (if anyone can answer), when I read directions for Epoxy, they usually say “temperature need to be at least 70* when mixing epoxy” (or whatever temperature it is) but it doesn’t say that needs to be the temperature for it to cure/dry. Does the temp have to still be 70* or does the temp matter for it to cure/dry? Only wondering bc directions don’t say.
Epoxy likes warmer temperatures. So I would recommend keeping the temp 70° or higher while your cups are drying.
@@KristisCustomCreations I was just double checking. My house is an older house & it’s very drafty. I’m so scared to have Epoxy any near my kids bc I’ve seen people say it’s made them sick but I have an bathroom that we modified into more of a walk in closet/storage area, that has a window for ventilation (it’s also worth mentioning I live in the NW, so it’s cold. I was gonna do the epoxy in their. I can bring in a space heater if needed while they dry. I just want to make sure I’m prepared for everything ☺️. Thank you so much.
@@jessicamarsh9779 have you seen my video about the heat box that I made? It's perfect for colder areas and keeping the cups warm enough while they dry. the temperature really can make a big deal in the curing process. 😊
@@KristisCustomCreations Not yet. This was the first video I’ve watched. I just found you & I’m hooked ☺️. I’ll definitely go look for that video and watch. I’m actually making pens, like how tumblers are wrapped with fabric but pens instead. Hopefully I can try a few cups since I bought a cup turner & want to make sure I get my money’s worth out of it ☺️😉. My mom, sister, dad & husband are huge tumbler people, so I figured I could try tumblers and make them as gifts ☺️🤷🏽♀️
@@jessicamarsh9779 Thank you for watching and I hope my tutorials can continue to help you!!!
Why do my pens dry with dimples on them? Thank you in advance.
That would be fish eyes. What kind of epoxy did you use? There are lots of different things that could lead to fish eyes in your projects. try standing then putting another light layer of epoxy over it to try to fill in the fish eyes.
Can you link the epoxy you used?
In this video I used Faux Rizzle Epoxy - amzn.to/3nZFM9h but I also love to use Tumblerpoxy from www.tumblerpoxy.com
@@KristisCustomCreations thanks for your help!
@@KristisCustomCreations dumb question, but do you use resin and then the hardner?
@@courtneyfrazier6650 That's not a dumb question at all. You mix both parts (resin and hardner) together in equal parts. Mix really thoroughly then apply to your project.
@@courtneyfrazier6650 You're very welcome!!!
I must have gotten the wrong ink joy pens. The clicker part won’t come off at all it’s like it’s glued to the pen
Oh no! It sounds like it may be the wrong pens then. The clip on the correct ones comes off pretty easily
@@KristisCustomCreations there’s also a little nub attached on the bottom of the pen where the ink part slides out but won’t come off. Ingot the paper mate ink joy from target 🤷🏻♀️

What kind of epoxy do you use?
I use both Tumblerpoxy and Faux Rizzle. They are both awesome epoxy brands.
I think I rather do this then to use the pen molds for some reason when use the pen molds the ink doesn’t work
I've never used the pen molds but I'm kinda partial to doing it this way. 😉😊
Could you dip the pen inside the glitter?
Not sure I understand what you mean. 🤷🏼♀️
You wouldn't want to dip straight into the glitter at the risk of clumping and contaminating the container of glitter.
My pencil is stuck? suggestions?
How much do these sell for
I sell mine for $10 each
@@KristisCustomCreations thank you
I'm looking at a pen right now with an eraser head stuck in it. If you use the eraser end you stand the chance of getting the metal stuck in the groovers and not coming back out. :(
Oh no! That's why I stated in the video that I didn't care much for using the pencil to do my pens and I posted an updated video using 1/4" wooden dowel rods. Are you able to remove it with pliers?
