It’s such a shame that Colin Baker didn’t get enough time to show his full character. Still mad at the BBC for that. It didn’t help that the McCoy era went against ITV’s Coronation Street, which was exceeding over 12 million per episode. Thanks for uploading this again Adam as it’s very fascinating.😄😄👍
Another great example of high ratings does not automatically mean high quality, and low ratings don't mean low. Having this all together in an omnibus again really shows the sheer amount of hard work and research that went into these, particular for the context of competition and the wider world.
Ratings rage aside, I've thoroughly enjoyed this series Adam, your depth of research and thoughtful analysis and commentary has been fascinating to this non-Brit.
I feel really happy to know I've seen many of these stories now, but wow, there are so many wacky and wonderful characters I've not watched yet! 🤩🎉 Thank you for making such a thorough, fun and insightful video! ❤
Timelash is the 2nd Doctor Who story I ever saw, I still remember when I was 8 and putting in the DVD and being sucked into this world. For that alone I cannot hate the story for a single second. I’m also firmly on the side of Paul Darrows Tekker being a fantastic secondary antagonist who does the most with a middling script.
What does become clear, at least for Season 20, is that whatever the competition was on the first day, it was stronger than for the second episode of the week!
I remember hearing a preview for the new Howell theme tune and hating it. So I got my little postal order together and sent it the BBC to specifically order the old one (they were released on 7" singles). The buggers sent me the new one... My feelings about the new starfield and neon sequence were equally negative when it aired. But compared to the increasingly silly embellishments to it that followed, the first iteration was good in retrospect. As for Baker's last run as a whole, it's worth bearing in mind that the writing wasn't a distinctive change from what had gone before and was generally rather good. This is in part because there were quite a lot of held over scripts and ideas and in part because the BBC put Barry Letts in to mentor Nathan Turner in his first (and as it transpired only) producer job.
@@AMTVWHOI dont believe you! A proud Yorkshireman would never utter such embarassing Americanisms as "Monday THROUGH Friday" and various others as you did. A Yorkshireman would say the correct English "Monday TO Friday".... Brian Glover will be spinning in his grave!

Watch these on your other channel, but worth watching again as you cannot get enough classic Doctor Who
Absolutely 👌
You're telling me that the mighty Tom Baker's last season was pipped not only by a competing sci-fi show but by a flippin' quiz show?? Mother Hubbard!
Tom Baker's last three seasons were utter crap. 'Mighty' my excrement encrusted bum hole!
Good History AMTV! (also congratulations on making to Doctor who!!)
This series of videos is utterly epic. Thank you, it must have been some effort to make.

I'm glad you've enjoyed it! More to come in the future!
Excellent vid. It is strange to think that the Beeb see 4 million viewers as good these days.

Would you be making a viewing figures video for doctor who 2005-2022 new series 🤔.
I miss 70ies and 80ies Who ...
It's 70's and 80's not 70ies and 80ies.
I love first 21 and 23th seasons also half of each seasons 22th, 24th 25th are good. But 26th is very very bad.
80s Who was superb and the series has never bettered it to this day, imo.
Seasons 21, 22 and 23 being the particular highpoint of excellence for me.
Enjoyed your video, however I would urge you to pronounce your "Ts" it really does jar!!
I'm just a Yorkshireman 😂
