Doctor Who Only Has 7 Episodes

Doctor Who only has 7 episodes. Not literally (although it's not far off by this point.) But in terms of story types, the modern show only features 7 episode concepts it regularly draws from. But what are these story types, how do they work and why is this actually a good thing?
