A wonderful reaction to a very beautiful but melancolly song. Steven Wilson is such a wonderful writer and performer and arranger. I never get tired of watching people disciver his music and love it just like the two of you are doing. Keep on Doing it.
I completely disagree. They were both emotionless with all the cord progressions and arrangements or any solo that was played . I was blown away actually on such a musically done masterpiece. Just my opinion.
This is the first Steven Wilson song I ever heard, and I was hooked after that. Amazing musician and songwriter. If you have a chance, react to one of his live performances.
An absolutely beautiful song, glad you got around to it....and great reaction btw! Steven Wilson is quick to acknowledge that he has a definite love of melancholy music but rest assured that not all of his music is that way! I was introduced to his music with the song 'Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here,' Live (performed by his band Porcupine Tree), give it a listen sometime....he is almost the definition of Progressive music! Have a great weekend!
steve wilson is amazing try listening to him as lead singer of PORCUPINE TREE Porcupine Tree is a prog rock band that will blow you away start with maybe the song ANESTHETIZE after that, u might want to check out another prog rock band AIRBAG maybe start with CALL ME BACK or BRIDGE enjoy guys!! loved ur reaction to emma kok brought this 55 yr old bear to tears too buddy xo
Truly wonderful reaction guys. So great to see people willing to take their time and allow emotions and consideration to play a role in their comments. I see that many others have already recommended The Raven that Refused to Sing which I heartily agree with - another of very similar vein to Routine and Drive Home ikn terms of emotional impact. I did hear you ask though does SW do anything slightly happier? Well yes he does - even if only slightly :-) Try "What Life Brings" from his brand new album only released last week. Official video is fantastic. LIkewise "Economies of Scale" official video, but if you want to be completely blown away - try checking out "Impossible Tightrope" - official video and then try and get your head around the fact it is the same musician who wrote all of the above tracks!
There is an actual video game made for this story. You play the guy and you are playing through the events of the full day as a memory that you're trying to figure out as to how things led up to the crash. The game is just as beautiful and emotional as the video. The game's soundtrack has Steven Wilson's music with this song being it's main theme. It's called The Last Day of June.
Our main character was out on a picnic with his girlfriend Lucy & on the way home, while our driver was distracted they had a fiery car crash. Our main character is unable to pull Lucy out of the car and she dies. He managed to grab her "Titanic" like necklace which ends up in the nearby pond. As time goes by, he ends up in a wheelchair due to his injuries & out of guilt he writes to Lucy everyday and his letters pile up, he even see's "ghosts" of Lucy around their house. He is haunted, he is so distraught & unable to get over what happened. He eventually returns to the crash site & ends up falling into the pond, as he lie drowning, he sees Lucy's necklace. He grabs it and makes his way back to the surface, lovingly clutching the necklace he had given to Lucy.
There are three sad videos for this Steven Wilson album. This, 'The Raven to Refused to Sing' and 'Routine'. I hope some Patreon will want the other two videos. I prefer Routine, that's a sad clip with hope.
I appreciate the fact that you both tried to depict a sad story because it was so beautiful written while the hole time you both seemed to ignore the beauty of the masterpiece in terms of if it musical content, and it’s arrangements of there of. Completely emotionless. The lady seemed to have just a glimpse but cut very short in the beginning of Goven’s solo…. It’s okay some just don’t get it…. Sad
The hole album is fantastic.
Guthry Gowan's guitar solo on this one is epic ❤
Hole ?
And now you need to do 'The Raven That Refused To Sing'
yesssssss 🥹💚💚🍀
One of my favorite songs of all time🙌🌔
One of the greatest songs of all time
I like that you paused at the end of the song to let the credits roll. can't just jump in... need to give it a moment.
The guitar solo by Guthrie Govan was fully improvised in one take, masterful guitarist!
This song and others on the album are based on ghost stories that Steven wrote. As stated earlier, Guthrie Govan is a phenomenal guitarist.
