Jay & Amber, you will LOVE their "Kick It Out" and "Dog And Butterfly"!!!
Great suggestions! I’ll also throw in an underrated one, “City’s Burning”.
@@davidolson2729 thank you!
And "Sing Child" Theres a great live performance of that one on UA-cam. Roger Fisher shines on guitar and Ann plays a mean flute part.
Also "Straight On"
Even It Up can be added to that as well. But love your suggestions!
Heartless was written around the same time as Barracuda. My theory is that those songs ended up on different albums because of the lawsuit they were engaged in with their first record company. Barracuda ended up on the Little Queen LP with the new record company, and Heartless was released on Magazine with their original record company. If Heart had been allowed to finish the entirety of the Magazine album, I bet Barracuda would have been on it.
In their top 3 songs with Barracuda and Crazy On You imo. The great line:
You never realize
The way love dies
When you crucify its soul
In her 70s, Ann still kills it when she sings. Nancy is just as lethal as ever on guitar even today. Heart not only opened up Females holding their own in an industry dominated by men, but they also put Seattle on the Rock N Roll map years before Nirvana, Soundgarden, Queensryche or Pearl Jam came along! We proudly hold on to our bragging rights in the northwest USA for unleashing Heart on the world!
Hell, yeah! 🤘
😁Vancouver has entered the chat
Hendrix, Heart, Nirvana, Alice, Soundgarden, Audioslave all put together make Seattle the best rock music city there is. It is to hard rock as Detroit is to R&B.
😌💯🙌🏼🎉
YES❤❤❤❤
The whole "Dog & Butterfly" album by Heart kicks ass beyond belief.
Ann Wilson RULES!!! She has the Pipes of a Fighter-Jet!!!! POWER BABY!!!!!
Please upvote! Heart still has many great songs..."Kick it Out," "Even it Up," "Who Will You Run To," "Nothing at All," "If Looks Could Kill," "How Can I Refuse" and "Love Alive."
Lastly, The Baby's with John Waite! "Everytime I Think of You" and "Isn't It Time." They have more....plus John Waite went solo, too.
If you truly want to be blown away by this band's talent in one song, is their live performance track of the song Mistral Wind from their Greatest Hits/ Live album. It is a true masterpiece of a theatrical and epic song. Plus on this live performance, Ann's voice will give you chills.
Kaleo....yes Mistral Wind!
Definitely mistral wind absolutely a must
Yes to this one
That's the best one ever! Yes to Mistral Wind!
Imo, Mistral Wind is their best song.
The band firing on all cylinders here, and Ann’s voice is pure gold as usual.
They're early music is what put them for what God of the airplane little Queen little Queen dreamboat Annie dog and a butterfly now nowThey're early music is what put them for what God of the airplane little Queen little Queen dreamboat Annie dog and a butterfly now now
Vastly underrated and underplayed song by Heart. This is definitely in my top 5 songs by them. Need to do “Love Alive” . Another great tune
Yes another great one from them!!!
check out "live 1978"version of live alive with ann;s amazing flute solo at the start
I agree. Those are two of my favorites by Heart.
Both of these sisters are great. I don't think you can pick just one of them. And then the rest of the band adds to their greatness.
EVEN IT UP will give generate hives along your spine. It has horns. It has sass and righteous indignation. It has Ann and Nancy at full tilt. And cranks up the volume to rattle your bones !!
In that same vein, how about a couple of great songs from Jefferson Starship. From their album Freedom at Point Zero there are JANE and FIND YOUR WAY BACK. And from Modern Times the powerful STRANGER. The teaming of Grace Slick and Mickey Thompson is thrilling and and oh so right. Enjoy
The sweet side of Heart. Dog and butterfly 🐶 🦋 ❤
One of Heart's best songs. Ann's voice just kicks ass here.
You guys should do "If Looks Could Kill You'd Be Lying on the Floor" by Heart. Great rocker.
Añn Wilson is the best female Rock singer ever.
I agree with everyone who said DOG AND BUTTERFLY!! This is an acoustic ballad, not a hard rockin' Heart song, but it has gorgeously powerful vocals!! I love Barracuda too, but Dog and Butterfly is a completely different side of Heart that makes you just close your eyes and get lost in what you are hearing. Please please please react to this song!
This makes TEN Heart songs you've done. You're well into their rabbit hole, but there are a bunch more to go. "Dreamboat Annie", "Little Queen", "Kick It Out", "Without You", "Dog & Butterfly", "What About Love"... yeah, you'll be on this road for a while. And speaking of ZZ Top, please do "Sleeping Bag".
Heart seems timeless now. I still have a huge fan boy crush on which one? Oh both, of course. Kick It Out, banger. Thanks again.
This is one of the heaviest of their songs, absolutely rock hard.
Heart did hard rock as well as ANYBODY in rock, and with a sass and groove NOBODY else had.
Not really though.
If Anne Wilson is singing it. Then that's it for me. SHE ISTHE BEST. I Love her voice. No one does it better. Thank you for your reaction.xxxxx
Great song. That lady can SING!!
steve fossen is a very underrated bass player, his work on this track is fantastic.
Ann Wilson is my spirit animal.
Heart- Even It Up. A jam!
This song was recorded in 1976 but wasn't released for two years because of issues with their former record company.
I'll keep suggesting "White Lightning and Wine", a Heart gem where rock meets funk meets cow bell. This will rate a quadruple wow and "why didn't we hit this earlier?".
This album has some of my all-time favorite Heart songs, including their version of "Without You" by Badfinger/Nilsson. But this album also has the songs "Just The Wine", "Here Song", and the title track "Magazine", which are all phenomenal.
Even it up!
The verse lick sounds so much like Long Cool Woman. Amazing band, I love Heart.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought that 👍
There’s so many Heart songs to explore, so many hits, and some amazing deeper cuts as well.
Lesser known Heart song but an absolute rocker!
Love the Wilson sisters, legendary!! Such a banger.
One of my favorites, and the album is so underrated due to the circumstances under which it was made and released. But all the 5 songs that weren't filler are some of the best of their entire career.
Yeah. That whole fandango was sad, but both "second albums" were just fine, despite everything.
I’ve been lucky enough to see Heart twice back in the 80’s one of my favorite songs is Dog and Butterfly.. it’s a bit slower, but Ann’s voice is phenomenal.
nancy wilson is a very technical guitar player i always called the female jimmy Hendricx. she's right up there. STILL an excellent guitar player. this song is a timeless masterpiece. 50 years from now people will still be listening to this
Okay, I love this band especially their '70s work and for whatever reason I have for loving so many of their songs I think MUSTRAL WIND is my personal favorite. So get on it, Amber and Jay!
Heart has a song on their first album called “Sing Child” that I know you will love. Very very cool song.
Heart is my favorite! The Beatles inspired me to play guitar and sing but Heart REALLY inspired me to be in a band. I was able to be in a little band in high school and then in an all-girl band called Rosewood and we played classic rock and classic country. Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, Linda Ronstadt were big influences. Saw Heart many times, the last time was about six years ago in El Paso and Ann Wilson was even more powerful and colorful in her singing. She could hit every note as good or better than before which is competely amazing. Nancy was my hero because she played guitar and I always wanted to learn mandoline.
For a much softer side of Heart check out the song "Dreamboat Annie" it's a close your eyes take a journey kind of song.
When this band came out, Everyone was blown away. I was fortunate enough to see them open the Main Theatre of the new National Arts Center in Ottawa. It was one of the best concerts I ever attended.
Heart simply doesn't write a bad song, they are my favorite female rockers!
A must do is Mistral Wind...sorrily overlooked masterpiece!❤️
One of my favorite bands in concert
One of my favorite songs from Heart. Great memories of me and my best friend dancing and singing to this song. My friend looked like Ann Wilson at one time....
speaking of sisters who rock - check out Fanny - the first all female band who wrote, sang and played their own instruments signed to a major record label - sisters Jean (bass) and June (lead guitar) with Nicky Barclay (incredible keyboards) and Alice De Bur (powerful drums) - easy to find on Google - still making music 50 years later
Mistral Wind shows her pipes man!
Another awesome song by Heart! You can never go wrong.
As long as you stay away from the 8os.
Another tough Heart song with a message directed at some guy who's not pulling his weight in a relationship is "Even It Up" from 1980.
Fantastic!!❤ Ann And Nancy OMG!!
Heart can rock as hard as any band. You really should try early 90s Heart. Black on Black II is maybe the heaviest thing they've ever recorded. They made great music through several different decades.
Make sure you check out the Live at KWSU TV Studio (The Second Ending 1976) show. This song is in the setlist & Ann sounds awesome & she plays a mean flute too.
Movie recommendation: ALMOST FAMOUS. It was written by Nancy Wilson's (then) husband who was a writer for Rolling Stone Magazine, and Nancy did the music coaching for the actors so they could look authentic for the '70s band that was the center piece of the film.
You two have embraced the period music from that era... you are ready to watch ALMOST FAMOUS.
🥰🥰🥰 You need to hear "Dog And Butterfly", "What About Love?" and "Nothin' At All".
My moms favorite! Her father is a guitarist and she grew up around the band. She loved them being women and having the "sauce"
A nice smooth easy listening tune with the girls dog and butterfly it's one of those you have to be in that frame of mind but then you will thoroughly enjoy it both of their voices shine check them out
Dog and Butterfly Even IT Up
Even it up is another great uptempo one from this time frame. Definitely need to listen to Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer. Studio version. Anns singing will blow you away
Glad you enjoyed this one. It's obviously from early in their career when most of their hits were a bit heavier. Of course they did shake it up, (not a pun, honest, Folks), sometimes going in a softer, more ballad direction. You'd probably enjoy "Dog and Butterfly" for going that way.
Nice! I saw Heart at Summer Jam in 1979 at Arrowhead Stadium along with Ted Nugent, The Cars, Missouri, Bob Welch and Sammy Haggar. Good times.
YES!! Keep the volume turned up!! Don’t turn it back down!!
Another nice song for female Friday is "We'll sing in the Sunshine" 1960s,, by Gale Garnett.
Always appreciated the vocals. J got me listening to individual instruments. Love how the bass goes around in a circle. And the drums get me when they hit so fast it sounds like falling downstairs. Thumpa thumpa thum thum thum thum. Y'all making me bring new ears to an old favorite. Thanks! ❤️🎵
❤😎❤ Such a great song! Your reactions are so much fun. It's interesting... I have the original album and the original vinyl 45 single and both state the writers of this song are Ann Wilson, Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen and Nancy Wilson. But when I look online, it shows the writers as only Ann & Nancy Wilson. Interesting. Oh, and the bass player on this song is Steve Fossen. He co-founded Heart in 1967 with guitarist Roger Fisher. He left Heart in 1982.
Heart is the perfect name for this band...
I remember hearing for the first time the real meaning behind their song Barracuda...
They are survivors in a male-dominated industry...
Saw them in Enoshima at the Japan Jam with Firefall, TKO and headliners the Beach Boys...
You want to hear Heart at their absolute hardest, listen to Devil Delight from the same album (Magazine).
Steve Fossen (bass, background vocals), Michael Derosier (drums), Roger Fisher (lead guitar), Howard Leese (guitar, keyboards, background vocals) and of course, Ann and Nancy Wilson, were all inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a band. Fossen and Fisher were founding members before they became known as Heart; Ann early on, and then eventually, Nancy, joined later.
And the band was formed in Vancouver Canada and that is where the band recorded their first hits - all the time pretending that they all were from Canada.
Rockin Heaven Down is another great Heart rocker!
Seen them several times throughout their career an they never dissapoint!
Anything by Heart in the 70's is classic!!!!!!
Nancy Wilson was in the movie "Fast times at Ridgemont high"... she was the girl in the Corvette checking out Brad when he was wearing the fish restaurant uniform.
Next Heart song should be "If Looks Could Kill"--hard-driving fire all the way through. This song was supposedly written after the guy Ann was dating cheated on her. You can feel her anger as she spits out the lyrics,
Yeah, except she didn't write the song.
Exactly
Great song, raging guitar!
One of my favorites, for sure. He should be shaking in his boots from her anger in that song!
That would be Baracouda
Jay and Amber, if you really want to get blown away by Ann's voice, listen to Heart's cover of "Unchained Melody". I urge, Urge, URGE you to do so!!!
Back beat rock and roll vibe..
Kick It Out is a balls to the walls rocker by Heart and should definitely be on your list. I think you would also like Pain Lies On the Riverside by a band called Live. Great bass and growly vocals on that one.
Great band.
This is from the album "Magazine". It was supposed to be Heart's second release, but the record company (Mushroom) and band got into a nasty lawsuit about it after Mushroom had an ad campaign for "Dreamboat Annie" which strongly hinted the sisters were lovers. Mushroom released a partly completed "Heartless" album, while Heart's new record company (Portrait) released "Little Queen". A court finally decided Mushroom had to recall the album so Heart could remix it and add new vocals. The Mushroom version is a collector's item for Heart fans.
Catching up on some videos after being sick for awhile. Heart rocks. Merry Christmas guys
Ann Wilson was a performer and, in general, a woman a lot of us women looked up to and still do. Being a woman and a male dominated industry has been incredibly tough on women in the music industry.
Why would anyone in their right mind try to control an amazingly talented artist and risk losing all the $ that artist is making for the label just because you want to control them because they are women?
A song that really shows Ann's bluesy side is Heart's cover of Say It Like It Is.
Power vocals and a lot of style.
Sorry, it's Tell It Like It Is.
Hey guys, check out Heart at The Kennedy Center Honors program when they sang Stairway To Heaven honoring Led Zeppelin with Led Zeppelin in the audience. It will blow your minds. Happy Holidays guys from 2RG. 🖤✌🏻🎶🤘🏻
The hard hitting engine room on this one along with Ann’s range!
Jay "I know you hear it!" 😎🔥🤘🎸
Listening to this in this setting is great and it rocks but listening to it a live a few years ago….it rocks much harder. They are/were much harder live than studio recordings. It’s a whole other vibe.
Can't go wrong with Heart. Another great song!! I really do like your hair Amber - looks great.
Sisters are doing it for themselves! 😎🔥🤘🎸
TIME FOR HEART'S little queen and also "love alive"(live 1978 "version with amazing ann wilson flute solo at the beginning!!
The crazy thing is I heard this song on the radio today ,First time in a long time,
That's Nancy on lead guitar in the bridge of the song.
Amber & Jordan U guys have to react to 1)If Looks Could Kill; 2)There's That Girl; 3)Never; U guys have to react to all this great music by Heart.
She can SANG!!! Seriously need to check out if looks could kill. The best !
Oooooooh, GOOD one!! This one never gets enough love.
Ann and Nancy are icons no doubt but the band was killer !!!
Every now and Nancy is lead vocal " These Dream's " to start.
About time we got to "Dog and Butterfly", one of their first 4 albums which were their best by far. Many awesome tracks on this one.
If you love the edge of "Barracuda" & "Heartless", you have to hear "City's Burning"!!!
You should hear Mistral Wind. Amazing power ballad by Heart; it'll blow you away. And you need to hear Dog and Butterfly, which is a gorgeous song with acoustic guitar and both sisters singing beautifully, lots of falsetto. Dog and Butterfly is unlike any Heart song you've heard. And if you haven't heard Crazy On You, that's a must, too.
Love this track and love the Dog and Butterfky album. Heartless has a real edge to it that is awesome. Ann's vocals are terrific.
Yeah, more Heart! They have many great tunes, for another heavy banger, try Back On Black II. It is a killer of a song from the Wilson Sisters, who rock with the best of them. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Thanks for doing Heartless, a great song! And like the person below said, you buys will love Kick it Out.. a real down and dirty rocker from the Little Queen album, like Barracuda. Ann is dripping with attitude in that one too.
