Finally someone reacted to one of their best and most underrated songs. I love this one. Glad you did too.
My all time favorite of their ballads.
I was frickin blown away by this album. It's STILL one of my all time favorites.
There are those songs that put you in a spiritual trance and make you want to sail away. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE SONGS.
I wove a whole Carlos Castaneda story around this tune when I was a teenager.
Dream of the Archer
No matter how rocking the place is everyone settles in for Dog and the Butterfly. It doesn’t bring the electricity of a concert down. It tunes it. For a moment we all vibrate in a space together, falling like leaves on the ground, then. It’s like a prayer.
Great poetic description!
The part where the two sisters' voices come in on "she rolled back down to the warm soft ground," spinning around each other, falling like leaves, just gets me every time.
This song represents my Big Brother and I. The Old Man, our abusive father. My brother, my protector -the Dog and I, the Butterfly, flying from danger, as my brother took the brunt.
He and I listened to it for many decades until I lost him to cancer in 2020.
My heart aches for you…he is with you…
It’s a lullaby for adults. 🙂🐕🦋
This one & "Dreamboat Annie" are great lighter fare from the Wilson sisters. I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite between those two. They are both entrancing & enchanting.
Preach
I grew up listening to Heart in the 70s. They are brilliant. Dog & Butterfly is, IMO, their most beautiful ballad. Hearing it as a teenager, it always meant to never give up. To always try.
The blending of Ann & Nancy's vocals are mesmerizing. Great reaction.
this was the first Heart song I heard as a small kid in the 70s, my mom would play it on a record for me as a nighttime lullaby. it's so so simple yet so beautiful
This is Ann Wilson's favorite song.
My God but Annie has a spectacular voice, tone and vibrato. This song so beautifully shows off her magnificent vocal abilities..
Ann & Nancy Wilson (Heart) are truly wonderful. This is one of my favorite songs by the duo. What I love most is how the tune works so well with the lyrics as it lifts us up during the "...up in the air, he'd like to fly..." portion. And, gently drops us down during the "...she rolled back down to the warm soft ground, laughing she don't know why..." part of the song. Brilliantly done.
The first 4 albums they did have INCREDIBLE songs that never got airplay. You really have to jump down thar rabbit hole
This is one of the very few songs they never skipped playing in concert despite not being one of the huge hits. Even in the mid 80s when Heart was a huge arena rock band, they would still play it with acoustic guitars, kind of clashing with the big hair and clothes look. They are really proud of the song and this album.
Much like Zeppelin, Heart plays a very wide range of styles, even psychedelic Disco ("Strange Euphoria"), Country ("Things") and Electronic ("A Million Miles").
It not a huge chart hit but is definitely one of their classics. I remember at that time being used to things like Barracuda and Magic Man and Heartless from these guys but when I first heard this i have such a sense of well being. It was very different from what I expect but so awesome too. It take me many years back!
Reactions like this is what makes musicians live.
After all the years have passed us by, and these great works of art are being lost to time, it’s heartwarming and reaffirming to see a few people still discovering them, and “getting it”….
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Loved this since I was a little girl!! I was only 8 when it came out and it overwhelmed me. Somehow the melody and the lyrics hit me so hard that I cried. They were joy-filled tears yet at the same time, I felt the struggle... "She rolled back down to the warm soft ground, laughing with a tear in her eye... she had to try". I'm 52yrs old now, it still evokes the same emotion!! Simply beautiful.🤗 Great reaction Salvo, love seeing how the music touches you!❤
I saw Heart in concert in 1988 when their Heart album was really big. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs and they started the concert with Nancy coming out and playing the most incredible 10 minute guitar intro to this song. What I wouldn't give to hear that again.
This has always been my favorite of theirs, beautiful lyrics, harmonies, just inspiring.
MISTRAL WIND from side Butterfly is to this day my all time favorite Heart tune. This WHOLE album is a gem … hope you check it all out. I had seen the little queen tour and met the band before the show. I was so psyched when this album came out…I got it the day it came out and just about wore it out playing it over and over again. Sadly Heart didn’t come to my hometown for this tour and I couldn’t con my folk into traveling 2 hours to get to a show. I really wish I could have… this was the last great Heart lineup IMO. I’m just so happy to have seen them in their prime..Thanks for covering this one SalvoG!
Totally agree with you…I have a very wide range of taste in music. All depends on my mood. I can be into Disturbed one day (or even just half a day), then listen to Pentatonix the next day. This song is a classic and really shows the versatility of HEART. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Master singer, musicians, songwriting created one incredibly beautiful and poignant song. My heart is so full hearing this song
There is a recent live acoustic version of this that is....awesome. Just Ann and Nancy and acoustic guitars. Nancy's vocals add to this as well.
A fantastic album. I saw Heart live in the summer of 1978 when they were featuring this album on tour. Fantastic show!
This was the perfect album to put on during a warm summer night. Coasting out of the mellow 70s into the (unknown to us) upcoming hectic 80s. Thanks for getting to this one, my man.
Fave Heart song… masterpiece. Nice reaction.
I remember couples skating to this at Dallas Skateland in the late 70's early 80's
Loved this song from the first time I heard it..First time I remember hearing it back it the 70's coming home from work in my 74 Plymouth Barracuda..Looking back I sure miss that car and miss that period in time..Lot of memories and songs like this. take me back to that time in my life..A lot of Great memorable songs from the 70's and HEART was one of the greatest bands from that time period..
I think one of the best things you do for your reactions vs other reactors ... is you read some info about the song prior to the reaction ! This is not only Great for you and people who are not familiar with the bands ir song BUT, also gives us old timers some info that we either had forgotten or was new to us as well !👍🏽
This is so beautiful, light and airy. Always on my soft rock playlist. Glad you enjoyed it.
This song always takes me back to the roller skating rink in Birmingham, AL, early 1979. 5th grade. Disco was raging at this time, and they played this song as a change of pace. Great times!
The concept for this album was one side had heavier rock songs, so that side of the album was called "dog" and the other side of the album had softer songs, including this one and that side of the album was called "butterfly". If you want to hear the opposite of this track, do yourself a favor and listen to "Cook with Fire" it is fantastic!
Glad you explained it. Saw this tour but had forgotten that was the actual intent. 🤘😎
@@ronaldelliott4373 Back in the day when albums had two sides! Then Mistral Wind bring it home with both dog and butterfly in same song.
@@JavierParede Absolutely true.
Thank you for reacting to this song. I really like how much you appreciate their sound.
Heart ❤️ is so beautiful. Love their music. Thanks.
Oh wow! I didn't know you covered this song. Cool! I saved allowance and bought my first record on first grade. This song was on it. Wow! Thanks for the great memory
First Heart song I heard as a teenager. This is a Masterpiece "Comfort Song". A song of Peaceful Resilience.
Not many Americans acknowledge that Heart started in Canada and broke out with airplay and tours in Canada before moving back to the USA.
One of my favorites
Mistral Wind, live!
I was 19 in ' 79 and this album came out. I fell in love with Heart instantly.
“How Deep it Goes “ from Dreamboat Annie. Ann has a beautiful voice.
Such a beautiful song and I love that you genuinely love it. too. ❤
It's so easy to give in as you get older.... But there can be joy in the struggle. Thank you for this lovely reaction. At a very hard time in my life this song would bring me to tears but reminded me to take joy in living.
I love this one, but I'd really love to hear someone finally react to "If You Love Me Like Music (I'll Be Your Song)" from Dreamboat Annie. Best ballad Heart ever.
Omg I haven't heard this song since I was a teenager. Many, many years ago but yet remembered most all the lyrics. It took me back to those warm lazy days. 10 outta 10 👍Thank you for
sharing 👏♥️
This was one of my favourite albums and this is such a beautiful song! Inspiration can come from anywhere. Dreamboat Annie is another to check our for their softer side. Cheers
Love Heart❤️
One of my all time favorite songs. I loved your reaction!
Very few songs make me relax but this is one of them. Love them.
Shout out to Javier and Marryann...thank you, and you too SalvoG. 👏🏽
Nancy's fav of big sis Ann's, she states it shows her vulnerable side.
I love their harmonies, blissful. And beautiful in concert too.
You try "Minstral Wind" yet? Or "Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer?"
Looking forward what's next. ❤❤
What a classic this song is. Brought tears to my eyes to hear it again. Thanks for appreciating such great talents.
I had forgotten about this sing! So glad you rea cted to this one😊 So beautiful.❤
HEY SALVO! 😊 SO THE BIG HIT ON THIS ALBUM ( DOG AND BUTTERFLY ) WAS : STRAIGHT ON, THE OPENING TRACK! 😊 VERSATILE IS A GREAT WORD FOR WHAT THE WILSONS AND THE FISHERS WERE.
I agree with Javier and Marianne, CLASSIC!
LOVE this song so much, and so few react to it. 🥰
You should listen to their cover of Elton John’s “Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters”, from their Live in Seattle concert in 2002.
An amazing performance
One of my favorite Heart songs. Love the harmony and beautiful melody
Dream of the Archer
waited forever for someone to react to this-thank you!
Love this song
And the bass comes in doubling the kick-drum (something Steven Fossen & Michael Derosier did often in this lineup of Heart.)
My mom and aunt would play guitar and sing this to me when I was a young girl. Good memories. I love it!
One of my all time favorite albums by any artist ♥️ Not a bad song on this one!! For another great one from this album check out “Lighter Touch” I still have my copy of this one in my album collection 🎶 Great reaction 😊
I was 11 years old and got this LP and Boston's "Don't Look Back" album. There's a picture of me on my birthday holding them both up.
Marianne wants to marry you, she loves this. I love it too, it makes me think of a time in high school after a big party after a football game when a friends parents were out of town. This song came on while we were all chilling out. We lit up and just chilled while this played. This song was up there with Pink Floyd as songs to get stoned to. The first four Heart albums were masterpieces of innocent folk like this and not so innocent hard rock like Barracuda and Devil Delight. Memories so great!
Thanks Salvog for your reaction to this song..This is one of my favorites from HEART...Remember first hearing this back in the late 70s..Just Beautiful..Check out the 2002 version of this song live from Seattle..I think you will love how both Ann and Nancy did it in 2002...
gotta check out Mistral Wind, Lighter Touch and Nada One from this album...all different, all amazing!! 👍😊
You seemed to genuinely enjoy this, so I think you would enjoy them performing this live in Seattle, back in 2002 … 24 years after the initial release, and these amazing artists were 50-ish at the time and perhaps even better !
I was 14 when this cut sallied forth. It drew tears to my eyes the first time i ever heard it. My friends all mocked me, but if this doesnt move you, nothing will. Eyes never dry at the end of this song.
You have a good ❤
still one of my favorites
Mistral Wind might be their best ballad.
Check out ‘Mistral Wind’ from the same album.
Again thank you so much for the deep dive into Heart... I love it
You really should catch a live Heart concert.
I saw Heart when they toured this album in 1979. They are one of the best sounding live bands I've seen.
When I was a teen and Heart were hitting it big, the major rock radio stations had mandates from their management to play no more than one novelty song per hour. And women in rock were considered a novelty. So not only did Heart have to compete with Joan Jet, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, etc., for that once per hour shot at airplay, they also had to compete with "Monster Mash", " They're Coming to Take Me Away", "Alice's Restaurant", etc.
If you know that, and realize the disdain that male run radio stations had for soft songs by women, the chart success of this song was astounding.
I was a young female musician starved to hear rock songs by women that I could cover.
I think Salvo would love Pat Benatar. Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Heartbreaker, Love is a Battlefield, etc.
I suggest you to watch the live version at Seattle in 2002 and also, you gonna love the whole Dreamboat Annie album (the first one), it's really a masterpiece.
This is the album I fell in love with Heart. Every single song on this album is amazing.
Needless to say...the rest is history. I've loved Heart ever since.
Im thrilled to find your channel and renewed excitement expressed while listening to these amazing tracks.
You'll get a very similar vibe but different story with Dreamboat Annie - dad bought that LP for mom when it released and I've been a Heart fan since!
This and Dreamboat Annie are two of my favorite Heart songs and revel in their softer side. Dreamboat Annie was always way to shirt for me, but I know it was meant to be the opening and closing song of that album. Heart rules. Rockin' or 'ballading".. ❤❤❤
Just a perfect, perfect song.
My favorite so mellow ❤
Here's a memory... The first time I played this, I plopped down on my beanbag chair -- not realizing I had a screwdriver in my pocket. I got up to play it again, and dragged a leaking beanbag chair about 10 feet -- tiny white beads all over the place. Then I got my foot-shaped fuzzy rug stuck in the Hoover. Yikes! ••• Thanks! PEACE!!!
Love it! Haha
You mentioned the album cover. That's really on half of it, and not completely what the front originally looked like. The original vinyl cover is a vertical gatefold cover, meaning that the top of the cover you see there is where the record slips into. The bottom is the spine, and the dog is not on the front. That's the altered cover done for the CD release back around '88 where they cut to dog from where she really belongs, on the back, and pasted her on the front. The whole thing was suppose to open vertically like a Japanese painting, or Nihonga.
I suggest you just do the whole Dreamboat Annie album.
I remeber you asking a while back does Heart havr any slow songs Looks like you found it this would hhave been my suggestion. You should see Ann playing the flute on this album a regular Jethro Tull :) This song reminds my of Joni Mitchel
I still have no doubt that Kenny Loggins heard this song, then wrote Return to Pooh's Corner.
How about doing Dreamboat Annie?
Finally!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
4 words Dream of the Archer
I remember getting stoned to this song.... We'll just say I was young.... Very young
👏👏👏
❣❣❣❣❣
This song kicked off the moody side B of the album. While it sounds innocent... it was usually the soundtrack to some intense X-rated scenes.
If you liked this one, you might like "Sand".
Again, missing put not watching live.
Who gives a shit about the bass? Why do pretentious people always comment about bass in songs? You can barely hear bass because it’s underneath everything usually. What’s so significant about it??
Because it adds an important element to the song.
@@bwill578 not really. A lot of people would barely notice it at all if it wasn’t there. I never paid one shred of attention to bass until people kept pointing it out all the time, and even when they pointed out, I have to really strain to hear it in the background. So why do some idiots always act like they’re orgasming because of the bass in songs? It’s so idiotic. I find the singers voice, melody of the song, lyrics, song, structure, etc. so many other things to be way more noteworthy, get some people only want to comment on base
@@evanhughes1510 Why? Because people are different. Flinging insults doesn't help anyone.
@@evanhughes1510 I guess if you were a musician you'd appreciate it much more
Good reactions always, but you keep on stepping all over the ending of all these songs so stop it please.
