This is my favorite song by The Who. They played this music video all the time on MTV and it just spoke to me. Plus, you get to hear Pete Townsend on lead vocals and John Entwistle's bass line (which is so funky). Great song!
I wasn't really a big fan of the Who, but this lil funky tune was/is my favorite. Still bobb'n my head and tapp'n my toes to this after all these years!!!
Jay and Amber I just want to let you know y'all are making a difference, an impact if you will. I'm a 62 year old redneck who lives alone and just got home from a month in the hospital after 2 major surgeries. I'm recovering, but it's slow. My kids and grandkids live in another state, so hard for them to see to me (plans are in place to move me to them, but will take time.). But, I look forward to your videos every day. Y'all are so positive and sweet it helps take my mind off myself for a short while. You feel the love through the screen I swear. I feel like I am sharing the music of my youth with my kids every video. Keep sharing the love and positivity. Love y'all!
I hope your health improves. I wish my daughter were interested in the music I love too, but she's not into music like I am, sadly. But I get to share it with J and Amber like you!
This and You Better You Bet are some of my favorite Who songs. " time goes on and people forget, forget "they're" hiding behind their fame wealth and power, behind an eminence front. Every now and then they slip up, and people see. But then they forget. The who is a real wake up/rebel rock band.
"Eminence" is high power or fame, so an "Eminence Front" is the illusion of such, as Pete Townshend indicates with the line, "It's a put-on." He said the song is about "the absurdity of drug-fueled grandiosity," possibly related to the Ativan detox program he went through shortly before writing the song.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "5:15" and "Love Reign O'er Me"!!! Edit- singer here is Pete Townshend, you'll love his "Let My Love Open The Door" from his solo career!!
I was 9 when this record came out. I bought the vinyl the week it came out, and I must have played this record 1,000 times over. So glad you guys enjoyed this song. There are some great live versions of this one as well.
This song was written and sung by Pete Townsend . It was from their 1982 studio album "Its Hard". When Townsend introduces this song in concert he tells the crowd, " This is what happens if you put too much white powder up your nose". Some say it had to do with his recent rehab. The bass line and the drum beat are so powerful, with the guitar work keeping you entertained. Great reaction. ☃️🎅🌟🎄🎁 ...."Please Come Home For Christmas" .....THE EAGLES.... Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Pete must've made up and made nice with the Catholic Church, because originally it was a slam on the Vatican and R.C. church - In Concert, Bishops/Cardinals were dressed in red frocks (dressed to kill) strutting their stuff onstage with 'Nuns' - as it's all a put on, a sham by "His Eminence" the Pope - but all such references have been expunged! Doesn't have much reference, if any, to drugs (not nearly as the Vatican reference).
I recall a contemporary It's Hard review that said it was a good song, but the rhythm section were not up to delivering what' was needed. Unbelievable!
From the mid-80s, this was probably the Who's last big hit. Even so, it's one of my favorites. It's less a song and more of a jam session with words thrown in. Love it! 🎶
Not mid-80s, early 80s - '82. I know this because "It's Hard" came out just before I returned to the states in November '82 from overseas and it was already in the jukebox at the enlisted club. Cheers....
As someone who grew up with The Who and went to see Tommy in the theatre, I am astounded that I did not realize this was their song and I love the song! 😮❤
Tommy in the theater, YESSSSSSS!!!!! I was only 10, but I was there! I loved it even more a couple years later, as I started understanding the references better...😂
One of my Fav Who songs! About 35yrs ago, I was on a business trip, and was heading back to my room when I heard 2 teens come out of a different room, and one of them said to the other 'Eminence Front'. I was tempted to say 'It's a put-On' as they passed, but didn't. But was surprised to see much younger kids seem to have known or heard of this song that was, even then, older than them! Thanks for Reacting to this song! :)
@@brooklynbridgealias Was thinking it was released about 10yrs before that, but was wrong. Didn't seem that new when I heard these kids. Did you live it, or just a fact checker?
Eminence Front is killer. The Who did well on MTV, which was huge in the 80s (I was in college). Getting airtime from The Who included You Better You Bet (1981) and Eminence Front (1982).
Townshend has introduced the song in live performances with: "This song is about what happens when you take too much white powder; it's called 'Eminence Front'".
They travel with their core band and half a dozen musicians, but hire an entire local orchestra from the towns they do their show in. I find that so cool!😍
More selected Who to check out: "5:15", "The Real Me" and "Bellboy" all are off the Quadrophenia album....The Who often referred to their music a "Maximum R&B" also as "Music for blokes, not music to dance to, but music to fight to"
One of the times when Pete Townsend was on lead vocals and Roger Daltry was back up. There is so much more of The Who's library that you guys have to get to.
Back in the day, I set up a listening room for a high-end audio store. This song was perfect for demonstrating the difference of a good system vs. a great system. PLAY IT LOUD!
One of Ox's (John Entwistle on bass) best songs. Love this song by the Who. They have so many great songs, and so many different sounds. From Magic Bus to Join Together, Squeeze Box, Love Reign O'er Me, and a little known but personal favorite Helpless Dancer.
I suggested this song a long time ago - so glad you got to it! One of the greatest intros and riffs in all of popular modern music....and then the lyrics. Wow. just a great song all the way around.
John 'Thunderfingers' Entwistle on the bass. Everytime I hear that freestyling on the first chorus I get a kick of adrenaline. If you have time check it out isolated its incredible. RIP legend.
You nailed it, Amber! I got so much into the vibe that I didn’t think about the lyrics for ages…..and when they finally hit I loved the song even more. Very clever way of expressing their idea….
I'll never forget the night I had front row, center stage tickets to see The Who at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. When The Who perform live, Pete Townshend tends to talk to the audience a lot and describe the meaning of many of their songs. That night in Connecticut when the spotlight was on Pete introducing "Eminence Front" to the crowd, I was shocked when I looked and Roger Daltrey was kneeled down on the stage about 2 feet in front of me. Next thing I know, I'm carrying on a conversation with Roger Daltrey in the middle of a Who concert! I requested a song and he said the setlist for the night was already set. I asked it they'd play it the next night in Boston. I was there the next night, lo and behold The Who performed the song I requested the night before!
Awesome song about the excess of the wealthy in the 80s ("put on" persona's and how people forget their true selves) "The news slows People forget Their shares crash, hopes are dashed People forget Forget they're hiding"
Hey Guys, A radio DJ once said on air, "No one is really sure what Rock 'n' Roll really is, except maybe Pete Townsend. Truer words were never spoken. Love you guys.
The Who have long been one of my favorite bands and it's a pleasure to see you two get into them!! My favorite Who song is Won't Get Fooled Again, but I also like The Seeker, The Relay, Pinball Wizard and The Kids Are Alright. I had the pleasure of seeing The Who when they came to Memphis last May, just a few days before Townshend's birthday, and of course they did this song. Also, I don't know if you knew it or not, but Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, has been their drummer for over 25 years!!
Before your reaction ever started I thought "Oh, you're going to dig this one". Any band from this era, if you're not crazy about the first couple of songs you hear, keep listening! Soon you'll be hooked. This one has sort of a rap cadence to it so I knew you guys would like it.
5:15 and Can’t Explain are both worth giving a listen to hear the sheer range of the band. See too - the movie and video respectively are such a window into Britain’s mod culture.
Miami Vice!! They played this on Miami Vice back in the day and now it's the first thing I think of when I hear it. It's a great song, very evocative of a certain sound of that era.
The Who have so many fantastic songs for you to get to including my favorite "I Can See for Miles" (1967). A few other great ones: "Love Reign O'er Me", "Magic Bus", and Pete Townshend's solo songs "Let My Love Open the Door" and "Face the Face".
You might want to consider combining your two channels and review the Rock Opera Tommy. The music is by The Who and it stars Sir Elton John. Pinball Wizard is one of the songs in the opera.
Amber & Jordan When I 1st heard Eminence Front by The Who was an Episode of Miami Vice called Killshot their on Don Johnson aka Sonny Crockett's boat making a 2 key drug deal. Crockett's cop buddy's r undercover waiting on Crockett's word, then when he says the word then the cops start shooting n the fireworks start to happen. Then Crockett starts his fast boat then rides away from his cop buddies as they chase him n the drug dealer in their boat as they hide n try to make a set up meeting with a drug cartel. At the Monterey Pop festival , Hendrix & The Who were arguing back stage saying " I'm not gonna follow you! " - " Well I'm not not gonna follow you either ! " . So Hendrix stood up and played a crazy kick and said " If I go first , I'm gonna pull out all the stops !! " . And the rest is history .
Lived in Miami. Biscayne Bay. When this came out. ( in the building ft in the opening credits of Miami Vice ) We used to rsce our lil speed boats all around the Bay w this blasting. Ahh..all the loco memories It was an awesome soundtrack to our escapades

Absolutely. Wonderful song.
My favorite Who song! Definitely should be next!
Out of all the songs I absolutely love that’s probably my favorite all time

Love Reign O’er Me is musically The Who’s best song, in my opinion. Won’t Get Fooled Again is lyrically the best. Rob Squad’s checked out 50% so far.
