Hope you guys enjoyed the video and it helps you guys when deciding to buy your new truck! I know a ton of you will be upgrading in 2021, this is just my "honest" ;) review of my F250! God bless! Edit: don’t forget to check out Part 2! ua-cam.com/video/Z-GO7cSR7rg/v-deo.html
I keep everything gas mowers and truck that way when I pull up to gas station I only have to get gas and not both and its simple. Thunda is a awesome truck bro.
42,000 in 3 years the first year I owned my 250 I put 30k on it it's a v10 sucks that gas but always pulled everything I asked it to. It now has nearly 200k and is great except it eats 2 qts of oil. Owner operator also.
Have a 2011 F250 Super Duty 6.2 gas. Would like to have a diesel but don't need a diesel. Too much up front money and maintenance costs for something not needed.
The water in the door is supposed to happen, it’s a drain field to keep water from leaking into the cab. If it leaks like that it is clogged, take an air compressor and blow it through the holes. That’s what the dealer would do.
Ya that's what I UA-cam searched and go figure, couple dozen videos came up and that's what I did to fix it. Good ol UA-cam.. answer for almost everything.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance My 2004 F150 had water in the rear door the dealer drilled 2 small holes to drain the water out then blow air into the door. I also had water that wouldn't drain out of the bed when it rained. I don't know how the dealer fixed that but it never happened again.
@LWRC not huge, the Linex is a little bit thicker but not much. When you get Linex installed the also pull every bolt out of the box, in case you ever need to take the bed off for any given reason. With Ford you get a cool ford logo etched into the front of the box, in the end Linex is probably better but if ford is cheaper go with that, there isn’t much difference
some basic tips for keeping your truck out of the shop.. 1. with most vehicles shipping from the factory with synthetic oil. change it every 5,000, if you idle a lot change it every 3,000. also pay extra for the nicer oil filters, i run the purolator boss filter(advance auto). before every oil change put a bottle of lucas oil fuel system cleaner. 2. rotate your tires EVERY oil change, you can prolong the life of your tires 5,000+ miles by doing this. i run the tires in my 08 ranger at 40 pounds. every application is different but always run a few ponds higher than oem spec, lawn care guys are running heavier having a higher pressure in a tire will keep the tire from over heating. so be prepared when you go to tire shops wanting higher pressures they will fight you. every operation is different so find what works best for you. also find a tire store that runs nitrogen, with nitrogen if you get a nail, or road trash in your tire(s) they don’t go flat within a hour. 3. if you pull heavy on the regular like brian does cage your fuel filter every year in spring, & spin money on the good spark plugs i run NGK. now a lot of people will disagree with this but, at the end of winter every year change the trans fluid (if you pull heavy very day 10-12 hours a day). drop the pan, clean it out, change the filter, fill from the top. when you do this start your truck let idle for 15 minutes, then apply brakes shift to each gear (DO NOT DRIVE YET) hold in each gear for 3 minutes this allows the ban to apply the clutch, & gets trans fluid to hat part of the transmission. after this let your truck idle for another 10 minutes, now take it on a 30 mile drive. DO NOT LET A DEALER run the trans fluid through a machine some models the transmission will grenade if this is done. finally if you buy a new truck at 800 miles drop the oil, & trans fluid changes all filters including fuel. hauling automotive parts for the last few years the quality control isn’t there, because they are “slapping” things together. the older generation that took pride in building these components have been pushed out. plus some of these vehicles sit for 4-8 months in a storage lot before a dealer may take delivery of them. it’s a small price to pay but if you do have a warranty issue and do what i mentioned above it’s going to be pretty hard for them to deny the warranty claim. keep ALL maintenance records, have them organized in order by date, folder them by each year quarterly, example 2nd quarter 2020, 3rd quarter 2020. you walk into a dealer, with your maintenance records by a yearly quarter will them neat, & organized they will not fuck with you (lack of better term). if y’all need more detail from what i wrote here, just reach out.
Great video, Brian! I’ve ran a 2500 Dodge gas for the past four years. I bought that over a 1500 for the added “beefiness” of the frame and better brakes for hauling bigger loads. I’ve been happy with it and for hauling equipment to landscape jobs, it’s nice to have the better stopping power.
Guess what, I gave up Landscaping to go be an accountant. Result - lost my job due to Covid = f*** it, back to Landscaping with a renewed vengeance! I'm Scottish, so don't know anything about trucks, but always enjoy your videos.
The problem with a Diesel engine is the cost of repair. My RAM is almost 18 years old and in the past year I had to spend $10,000 in total repairs which includes both engine and suspension. It was worth it because I spend 250-500 miles per day on the road working my inspection business. Cummins engines are well worth it if you plan on keeping your truck for years and years.
I’m 18 and my first truck was a 2005 Silverado 1500 with the smaller v8 and it was great for mowing and mulch jobs.... and I graduated high school in it and then I bought a 2003 Silverado 2500hd gas and a fisher plow and now I’ve got a year round income. I love the heavy duty trucks way better
Great video on a great pickup. The 7.3 liter Godzilla is the best way to go now. It can be supercharged to outrageous horsepower levels. I've had Ford pickups since 1974. They're excellent trucks well worth the money.
In regard to diesel vs gas, it’s important to remember that when a modern diesel truck goes into the shop, you usually aren’t leaving without paying a few thousand dollars. Most modern diesel trucks regularly require body off frame repairs and that’s gets really expensive.
I got a 19 diesel with the sport package. I’ve hauled everything including cattle. Yeah the diesel is overkill but my FNL has a gas version and pulls the same stuff as I do with no problem. What I hate about my truck is the sport package has blacked out head lights. Will eventually upgrade to LEDs for it. Nice truck was my dream truck and when you and Liz picked yours up and your comment as you walked to the truck was motivational. Then I finally got mine after a lot of contemplating.
My experience and thoughts for any owner/operator thinking of a new Ford superduty: I bought mine with the diesel 3 years ago and for the first year or two really did enjoy it. 2017, brand new, 6.7L F250 SuperCab/XLT. However since they've come out with the 7.3L gas option I've been leaning more towards that for a future truck. The diesel is great and all but that gas 7.3 seems like a simple, reliable "old school" v8 and for the price I'd for sure get it next time around. At the time when I got mine the Ford promotion going on was a 10k discount off MSRP for diesel engines, so it made sense (XLT premium package with heated seats, same centre screen/nav as lariat, centre console). Nice truck. Ended up upgrading my headlights to AlphaRex LEDs (like 1000 and installed myself), and LED taillights. The only real difference now is between mine and a Lariat is no leather seats. But yeah, looking back I'd wait for ford to have a different promo to get 10k off MSRP on a gas truck and trade the diesel engine for a 7.3 gas and get the lariat with cooled seats, LEDs. I'd also probably go with an 8 ft bed instead of the 6.75 ft bed for a work truck. I got the "super cab" and short bed so that the truck would be better for plowing, but I haven't actually really used it much for snow removal. My previous truck was a regular cab with 8 ft bed and it was much more useful. Once you've got a toolbox in there, or fuel tank, there's just not much room for anything else. I'd probably also go with the F350 for the extra payload for anyone who plans on keeping tools/ equipment in the truck and also tow with it. (I'm in landscaping/asphalt - repair, sealing, light paving. I've hauled bobcat/ mini ex/ asphalt roller on a float trailer with this truck, 14-15k lbs dump trailers fully loaded. fully loaded enclosed trailers)
It's a good engine gentlemen. I work for a class 1 railroad in maintenance of way. We beat the snot out of these 6.2's in the F250 and F350 and they have had no issues around my work group. My assigned truck is a 2014 F350 6.2, loaded with gear and tools and weighs 12000lbs (aftermarket leaf springs) with 189K and it has had no issues. I was impressed enough I bought a 2020 F250 for my personal truck. I have seen transmission failures in Chevy's 2500 and 3500. But I dont blame the maker. RR does no transmission maintenance and auctions truck at 200K
Same here. We have F250s at my work, granted they get beat up, but they've performed far better out of any of the big 3 for us. And I found a good deal on one so I jumped on it. Love it so far. Only time will tell
Like the videos. I too bought a 2016 F250 with the 6.2 V8. Most guys don't need diesel trucks, but get sucked into the "cool" factor. I also agree, the only reason I bought the Super Duty because we plow and sometimes need to pull 8-10k trailers. I have a 2012 F150 2wd and it is my go to driver, and tows 75% of what I need. I use the 250 when I need to haul our skid steer or dump trailer. While the 150 is rated to tow them, it isn't what I would call happy about doing it. Much more comfortable towing heavy loads in the bigger truck. Very happy with both trucks overall. Keep up the good work!
As a Retired military guy, I sure do appreciate your time and more importantly your honesty. Very detailed answers. I too love my King Ranch F150 and it's time to grow up...I'm 60 now...and get that F250 I've been thinking about for a long time now. Again, thank you for answering soooo many questions, concerns from folks. God bless you.
I almost went with a F250 but GM finally raised there trucks so they don’t sit so low anymore so I went with a GMC 2500 and I went with the diesel. At the end of the day though if it gets the job done it doesn’t matter what brand they all have lots of pros and a lot more cons lol. Keep up the videos Brian your doing well for yourself.
I would always do a 250. The bigger frame, payload, 1 ton solid axles, and suspension will put in work over a half ton. It’s not always about max rated capacity.
Ford Super Duty from when they started the new series back in 99 and before that XLT F250 / 350 trucks . Since they did away with the 5.4 no need for the diesel the new V8 has all the power needed and less motor maintenance . 38 years in the plowing business and other than a Dodge diesel the rest have been Super Duty Fords and that’s all we run currently...can’t see me changing brands now . Great review...👍👍
where the diesel comes in handy is like louisville, ky there’s a ton of rollers, & steep short inclines. but where brian is at in michigan, i mean it’s pretty flat up there. plus on this generation of super duty the powerstroke was only getting 12-15 mph. that’s why ford did a redesign for 2020 too improve on this new turbo, injectors, & the 10 speed. let me tell you if brian is getting 14 mpg out of the 6.2 that’s the best number i’ve herd, & i live 4 miles from the ford truck plant. i talk to the engineers all the time at the gas station across from the plant.
I went 2020 f250 7.3 XLT. Comes with heated drivers seat. No cooling though. Love the engine and 10 speed so far. Pushes snow/tows with ease. No issues so far with 7k miles. Sync 3 is garbage. I usually plug in and use car play. But even that doesn’t connect sometimes.
Dude I hate that my phone connects to my truck with out me knowing. I don’t know why but I would rather talk on regular speaker phone. Glad your truck has been good for you.
Thank you for the awesome review! Definitely keeping my 2018 F150 and running that into the ground to get my lawn care business going in 2022. Keep up the amazing work, Brian!
Love the truck and hope to one day have something as nice as that. Currently in a 94 F350 7.5L workhorse she runs like new and has never left me behind.
I have a 2019 Ram 2500 with the 6.2 L Gas and tows amazing even towing a 15,000lb dump trailer. And the comfort inside is amazing! Even with the tradesmen model there is a lot of creature comforts! Just picked up a Toyota Tundra yesterday and might be picking up a Ram 1500 tomorrow morning. Might have 3 trucks at 16! 💪🏻 Thanks so much Brian for your content! You were the first UA-camr I started watching. Which gave me so much confidence when nobody else believe me! Your the best!! 😎
I have an 08 F250 5.4 Lariat gasser. Works great for my business, I’m only in my second year but it is very reliable and overall can do everything whether it’s pulling enclosed trailers open trailers or dump trailers it pulls like nothing is behind it. Ford guy for life over here!
Stick with the Ford, with what you do a 1 ton would definitely be recommend. I had 3/4 tons most of my life now I’m in a 1 ton and what a difference so much more truck.keep up the good work.
I ended up buying a 2017 lariat and then a platinum, both with the 6.2 last year after watching your vid. Will say, our local Family express car wash is big enough, as well as crew!
We ordered our 2021 F-350 the end of September and picked it up the first week of December. Love it, it’s exactly what we wanted. So that’s my only advice, next time order your truck and get 100% exactly what you want.
My SD lived its life from New to 2018 as a granite countertop install truck. 2006 F250 5.4 Gas. Every day 5-6K Lbs of stone, only thing we changed was the rear springs and put 4500Lb Springs. Currently sitting at 348K miles and still strong.
For a guy that is starting a business I’ve been looking at a F 250 only for the reason: I found out that having the ability to have a camera on the back of the trailer and the footage will be displayed on the screen is only offered on the 250 & up. .......Having the the ability to see what’s behind me when running solo would be a blessing.
Bro for what you are doing for a living, there is no reason for a diesel, none. That almost 10 grand can work for you and can go to a new mower. It is quieter and cheaper on maintenance with gas as opposed to maintenance for diesel. Like you said, the new half-ton trucks with a v8 can haul a lot more than usual but with plowing the 250 is the way to go even though I am not a ford guy.
My next truck won't be a diesel. Itll have to be a f250 or ram 2500 just because I want a crew cab, 8ft bed, solid axles, and a bench front seat so my options are limited. I agree on the diesel option vs gas. If I towed for a living then I'd consider a diesel but the only way I'd get a diesel would be in an f450 or ram 4500 just for the wide track axles and commercial brakes (for towing).
I have a 2018 F150 King Ranch with the Diesel engine and have towed 11,300lbs and had no problems. It pulls like a dream. Yes I spent $70k on it but I intend to keep it for my lifetime no matter what. But it does everything I could ask of it and then some. I get roughly 20 mpg combined including towing. I tow during the mowing season roughly 5k daily. Never had a concern with getting moving or stopping either. Towing a 11k lbs trailer it gets about 10 mpg.
Great video Brian, I can’t believe it is three years already! I would have to go with the Chevy or GMC 2500 Duramax diesel works good towing and the torque and horsepower for pushing heavy snow that we get there in Wisconsin and also gas mileage is better with diesel! I only pay about $3 when I wash my truck in my driveway I use my Stihl power washer I do have to turn down the PSI on it or it will take the paint off my truck and I save a lot of money be using my stuff in my driveway and using a Stihl backpack leaf blower to dry it off always works for me!
I think you're absolutely right as far as diesel vs gas. My diesel truck is a toy hauler on the weekends and i really enjoy how effortless it is to tow but if it was purely a money maker truck, you could put 2 engines in the gas truck before you do injectors in the diesel cost wise. Also most people will never offset the cost of diesel.
Brian, every video you make that I watch inspires me to be successful and to push myself to get where I want to be. I had some issues this year with my 06 F-150, set me back almost $5k. I think I can keep using it for another year or 2 and then wanting to purchase a 250 to up my snow game. Love the review and I myself am a Ford guy. Have a Merry Christmas! Lawn Care Ninja
I love the LED lights. I didn’t realize they were $1100 with Ford. You can buy a morimoto is really nice lights for around the same price. I think I’d go with morimoto then the OEM’s.
I liked the honest review! I’m with you, if I had a second vehicle, I would get a WT. If this was my primary rig, and I could afford it, I would get the creature comforts too.
I just had the same problem with mine on the door getting clogged and water build up and only has 40k miles! Also need to get cabin filters each year and gas mileage is NOT good lol Mine is leveled with 35” cooper tires. I bought $75 LED replacement bulbs and they rock! Been great in mud and snow. It can haul a ton, love the bed, love storage, handling, love everything else for the most part. Great review bud!
Good review! Just bought an end of year sale 2020 F250 XLT Supercab with the 7.3L gasoline engine-has a 4.3 rear axle...Wow! All I can say is overkill, but that's how we lawn guys like it! No way do you need a diesel with the Godzilla motor. Brain, the newer edition Sync & features don't give me any issues that I notice...phone connects without blinking. This is my 4th Super Duty purchased since 2014...rarely had any issues. The 6.2L motors are more than solid, especially plowing snow. I also have a 2019 F350 6.2L standard cab and love it! Use it mainly for work truck hauling equipment & for salting purposes. The newer editions are just nice to drive & sit in for hours per day/week. Btw, my new truck was $51K before discounts & Z plan...ended up after taxes, destination...blah blah out the door for $48K. Throw on the BOSS V XT from Weingartz & total price was 59K.
I have essentially the same model truck - 2017 Lariat 50k miles. I’ve also had zero issues (knock on wood). I remember when you bought this truck because it was a couple weeks before I bought mine. Glad to see you’re still liking it, as I am. I also don’t like the sync system, my advice is plug your iPhone in and use Apple Car Play which works flawlessly. You’re missing out on the Google Maps features and a seamless entertainment system with your iPhone.
I have a 2019 F250 XLT 6.2. Absolutely love it. No need for the diesel. I’ve hauled roughly 15k behind the truck and does good enough for me. Not trying to race anyone.
no need to go 100 miles an hour pullin that much weight. I have a 6.2 and pull the same. Little slugging gettin goin but once shes movin its fine. Would love to try a new one with that new 10 speed
@@CrazyEye75 I agree with you. My buddy has a work truck that has the 10 speed in it and he said it seems worse to him because the transmission doesn’t know what gear it what’s to be in with that load.
@@mralextic thanks for the reply. Ya I've been on the fence about getting a new one or just stickin with my 2013 and getting it re geared. It's been absolutely flawless just when tryin to.pull all that weight up steep driveways and hills with no run you can tell it's not happy.
Down here in Texas, i will say 90% of even owner operators use F250, 2500, your basic 3/4 ton diesels. It may simply be because diesels are all the rave here in the south. But personally having owned a f250 diesel, I would take diesel every time. just personal preference. But I completely agree that its all relative to what you need and what is best for your business. Great video and your work rig is cleannnn. Great choice! Keep up the great contact
I'm a huge Ford guy. They make trucks that work and last a long time. Plane and simple, a Ford is made to work. Our fleet is all Ford trucks. The only other brand I would consider is ram. They have come a long way and I loved my 17' 1500.
I have a suggestion for your phone Bluetooth connecting problem. I gave up on trying to get my phone to sync to my truck consistently. I ended up getting a Bluetooth aux radio adapter for older cars without blue tooth. It works great and connects immediately after starting the truck every time. Best $25 I’ve ever spent. Depending on what plug in options your truck has you might have to get an adapter but that’s only another $5
Good review. Very informative as always. Personally we are switching from fords to the new rams. Also switching from diesel to gas as well. We dont haul more than 8k lbs so a diesel isnt really necessary for us anymore and as you stated for the price difference with gas vs diesel we can have nicer trucks and just stay gas. Plus easier for us to work on versus a diesel that would need a shop to fix it.
Gas or diesel is just a double edged sword. Preference, budget, longevity, and what you are using it for. Think we can all agree people buy diesels because of the sound, power, and man hood lol. Another awesome video as always.
I'm 3yrs 11 months in into my RAM 3500. I've already put 321k miles on it. I'm glad I went with the basic tradesman trim. I do haul most of the time (hotshot) so diesel is a must. I am currently in the market for a Ram 2500 or F250. This video was very helpful ×
@@gonchalo95 I just got a used 2wd f350 6.7 regular cab. Looks like it had been a work truck before but other than some minor dents, seems clean and runs like a champ. Only have a cargo trailer right now, but, want to travel cross country. See some stuff I've passed thru but didn't get to stop before. Being in New England, most want 4x4 for plowing etc. I figured it would be one less thing to go wrong (I pray). Good luck finding 'the one'.
Loved the video .... The way you answered and explained why you chose this over that .... from an owner operator position and based on your current size of operation and projected size ..... makes perfect sense. We run all gas which, like yourself, is fine for the size we are and what we do. Now, if we were larger and bulling skid steers and mini track loaders .... maybe a diesel would be warranted. Keep making the dreamwork and don't stop the videos, love your stuff. (FP2 is awesome as well ) Merry Christmas to you and the wifey.
2 years ago, I found a new 2019 extended cab f250 . Listen to this .... it was an basic xl ..but loaded with options.. surround camera system, big synch screen tech package , off road snow package, power rear window (xlt doesn’t even stock power windows on the standards ), ladder step up, led bed lights , built in bed liner , tie down hooks... 8 ft bed etc . Even the sales rep said he has never seen an xl anywhere close to loaded as this .. my only guess is that someone dealer ordered it and decided not to buy it . Msrp $47, got it for $39. 2 years now .. everywhere I go , people ask me how I got a power window in a basic xl... I say idk!! Lol
I love your truck Brian. It’s red, tricked out,& you utilize everything for business purposes. Excellent choice!! Happy Holidays to you and yours.🎄🎁🎄😀💯❤️🙏🏾✝️🇺🇸
This video was very good and really informative. I recently went from a 6.0 diesel f250 to a 2017 f350 6.2 liter gas with the lariat package.I enjoy my gas engine and would not go back to a diesel again. I might consider the 7.3 gas engine. Thanks for the video and the reliability data on the 6.2 liter engine.
Gas for me, most of my customers are 1-2 miles from my house and I just don’t put the miles on the truck. I would definitely go with comfort as I am in the truck most of the day.
Chevy all the way! I have a 2500 duramax hauling a 22ft enclosed 6-8k loaded with mowers and a gooseneck with 22k backhoe doesn’t even know it’s there I get 17mpg running my accounts at that weight and 20-21 hwy! I’ve had ford and gas trucks would never go back! And chevys apple play works perfect and connects automatic! Food for thought! This truck has saved me a ton in operating cost
Diggin' the video quality. I use a 2016 F150 Supercrew XLT 4x4. It has the creature comforts in it too, bought it used. Has a V8 in it and tackles everything I throw at it. I'm in the south, so no snow.
You can improve mileage a little bit by getting rid of the stock muffler go to a Flowmaster or magnaflow or even better dual exhaust change the air intake. You be surprised that that truck will gain a little bit more in power and mileage done it mine.
I bought a 2017 F250 XLT diesel with only 13K miles on it for 45K (before warranty, tax, etc.) back in July. So you see, I couldn't pass that up. Love it so far. Camper trailer in our future.
Completely with you on the nicer trim. I use my truck for work (way smaller than most guys, as I only have 40ish accounts), but I also use it for everyday life too. If I’m gonna be in it all day, I appreciate the creature comforts. The technology package, the heated and cooled seats (here in Texas they’re for the summer no doubt. Nice to hop in after knocking out a complete cul-de-sac and cranking up Max AC and the cooled seats) the Max tow package, and one thing I didn’t anticipate enjoying - the panoramic moon roof. Coming from a F250 it took a minute to convince myself I could get it done with a half ton gas truck, but the 3.5 Ecoboost is a monster. Pulls my 17 foot enclosed trailer like it’s not there and having a newer truck with the integrated brake controller is a godsend.
I have just a normal F-150 and they are very capable trucks. Don't think I would ever need a super duty unless I buy a camper years down the line but even then the F-150 I have would tow it no problem. Very entertaining video thank you!
Regarding the issues with yr Sync 3. #1 I heard that Chevy and Ram are even worse #2 Remove yr phone from yr Sync 3 and then add it again. #3 Unpair and pair your truck again inside of your Bluetooth settings in your phone. Make sure u remove the truck that it wouldn't be listed as paired device on your phone. Using different words: when u pair a sync 3 vehicle with your Bluetooth device, you add the phone to Sync 3 and the Sync 3 to your phone. That is why you need to eresa everything on both ends. That will help. Do it every 3-6month. Also, don't forget to update yr sync.
In December 2021 I bought a RAM 2500 Laramie with the 6.4 gas engine as a daily driver. No need for a diesel since I tow almost nothing. The gas engine handles the payload with no issues and I would definitely do it again.
Never would I ever use a half ton, due to the ease of stopping with a 2500 as well as suspension strength. Gotta say I’m a diesel guy though. Not that I need it I just love them. Even having to pay for a delete. Great video
I have a 19 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 6.4. My next truck will be a F450 F550 or equivalent. Owning this truck and what I’ve read a 250 shouldn’t be carrying a 8ft or 9ft plow it’s close to if not already overweight. I want a truck that will tow or handle ANYTHING I put on it. To me, I would use the 10k for a diesel and use that or upgrade to a F550 flat bed or dump. That’s my experience anyway. Great video Brian, very well done.
I have a 2019 Ram 3500 with the High Output Cummins. I use it for lawn and landscape. Just bought a 2017 F250 gasser to dedicate it to my lawn business as the start/stop of my Diesel engine is wearing it out. Been using the F250 lately though as the Ram got hit in the front so I can’t drive it. No regrets so far with either truck 😊
I don’t like modern diesels. They are super complicated, very costly to repair and the emissions systems are sure to shorten engine longevity. Another issue with new diesels is that the dealers typically take longer to complete repairs since not every mechanic in their shop is able to do work on them. I love my 99 F250 7.3 Powerstroke but it didn’t come with any emissions systems and I do my own repairs so dealer service isn’t an issue for me. Good review of your experience with your truck.
I am an owner operator 1 man show and I am a diesel guy. I run a 2018 Chevy 3500 mason dump with a Duramax for my main plow truck and for my heavy towing. I paid 7k less for that truck than your Lariat but it is a regular cab w/t package. I love the towing power, the 63 gallon fuel capacity and it rides like a 3/4 ton so I also use it for road trips and towing the 4 place sled trailer. I tow my mowing trailer with an 08 GMC 3500 crew cab duramax with 316000 miles on it that I bought used for 15k 5 years ago and I plan on running that truck as long as possible because its worth more to me than what I could sell it for. I would buy a gasser for an occasional use truck but not as my main work horse and after running a cab and chassis for 2 years I would only look for a cab and chassis for the next truck because it has double the fuel capacity over a pickup. I plowed for 29 straight hours in my 18 Duramax and didn't have to stop for fuel.
Insane price for diesel. I bought a 2018 f250 larriot 39k original miles garaged kept looks amazing still smells like new truck I went gas also I had the diesel on my f350 dually and gas prices now plus 15k more for diesel is crazy for me. New truck larriot loaded to the balls every option with brand new falken 35 a/t tires put on by dealer and a leer camper top fiberglass color match and rhino bed liner all for 52K new was like 90K to me with that low milage was worth not going new.
At the moment we use a2017 f150 xl with the 2.7l eco boost twin turbo and it’s not bad for lawn care. We tow daily a 6x14 utility trailer with a stand on, a walk behind 2 push mowers and a couple blowers and eaters. I would definitely at least get the 3.6 eco boost twin turbo all day. But it’s not a bad option! I love it
Great video Brian, agree completely with the tow hook issue. Upgraded from a 2000 Ford f150 to a 2017 f250 this year. Red Xl trim and regular cab as I'm a solo operator so needed the long bed not the extra seats. Crazy good deal at around 27k with only 12k miles on it. Even got the certified pre owned warranty. It came with a ceramic coating the previous owner installed. It's been a huge game changer when it comes to cleaning the truck. Debris and dirt just come right off when it rains as everything just beads off. Would be worth looking into.
Hi there!! Congrats on the 3 years of you your truck! Wow...I remember watching your video when you first got your truck. I was overseas and planning to get a truck the following year. This is awesome that your current truck has worked out and you haven't had any sizable issues! We are in the market for another truck. This one will be for travel trailer pulling. Because we're done getting trucks for each need, I think we'll head towards a 1ton; most likely an F350, so as to never have a payload issue. To help mitigate costs, I'll probably do a well equipped xlt gasser. We live in the mountains in CO (many many folks will argue for a diesel then; but I've rented F250 6.2gassers to haul stuff through the mountains and they did fine), so I'll probably get a 4.30 gearing to help with the hills. Have an awesome winter!!
I have a gas f250 with 410,555 miles, engine and transmission are in good shape for all those miles and as far as I know both are original. Body is clean even though I hardly wash it but is also starting to fall apart so I'm gonna get a lot of work done to it this summer. Getting a new inner tie rod end next week, all 4 wheels and front shocks will be replaced this year as well. I believe this thing can make it to 500k but I don't know if I'll keep it that long, and my next truck will probably be a long bed diesel.
Super informative, I agree with so much of what you said. In Florida an F150 is all you need but I've been considering my next as a F250 gasser for the boat more than the business. Currently running a 2013 F150 Limited. I agree about the creature comforts!
Can’t wait to see your new equipment line up for 2021! Also, congratulations on your new home. My wife and I built 2 custom homes as well. Best decision we’ve ever made. Enjoy yourself new home and family, congratulations brother!
I am still using my 2001/2002 f350 7.3 diesels. The bodies are rough but run great. and I don't want a payment. If you do any kind of serious snowplowing ford is the only truck. I would know I have been plowing snow here in Buffalo NY for 37 years.
@@aldonco that’s what I’ve heard, I want to get into plowing in a couple seasons. I know some landscapers who do it, he uses a 2017 Fiat 3500 Cummins, it doesn’t do as well as his ford that he has had and the fords his employees have. He says to never plow with a Chevy because the front suspension is garbage, with Ram the whole truck is garbage. Fords are solid, reliable (with exceptions of certain motors) the only downfall of a ford is the transmission temperature, they run way hotter than a Chevy or a fiat, when the do so the burn themselves up faster and in the end don’t last as long.
I added LASFIT LED headlights and katskin leather to my F-150 XLT for $1400. 😁 I plow with an F-150. They actually have a plow package and many plow makers build half ton plows. Even V-plows. However, you have the dump insert, can’t do that with an F-150. I would definitely stay gas. Another advantage to gas over diesel is the cost of maintenance. Oil changes are more, DEF, fuel filters, etc. I agree with the GM deal. I used to sell Fords, A-plan is great! You’re lucky to have that!
Thanks for the honest insight. I’m starting to sway towards a gas F250, from my current diesel F250. I don’t pull nor haul, growing out of that diesel bolt on power phase.
You should check the ford forums. The double honk can be disabled using 3rd party software. If I couldn't disable it I'd probably have gone insane. There is also an 'unauthorized' upgrade to Sync 3 V3.4 that might fix your Bluetooth problems.
I respect your choice to drive the gas. With that said, the best choice for your business is putting the extra cash into the Diesel. I spent over a decade managing car dealerships and previously I worked the fleet department before the promotion. Now, I owner operate a roofing business. Put pen to paper between fuel, purchase price, length of ownership and tax saving. The truck is a tool. Business is managing your capital expenditures and maximizing your profitability while not compromising customer service so you can scale to your level of comfort. As for the capital expense (truck) ideally get to a place where you can trade every year, going with the diesel will require more upfront liquidity but you roll one into the next taking advantage of taxes paid the first time, you have 3 write offs. The miles, the truck it self (must be within federal weight requirements) and the depreciation if any. You mentioned A plan. Side note: always buy the 4x4 even if your allergic to dirt. Lol if will add to the initial cap Expense but will be vital for this plan to work. The 4x4 retains value around 17% better even more on some models. Now step back: can you scrape together money to get that truck for your business and you mentioned it is changed it and excelled it tremendously. The strategy I’m telling you will allow you to steam roll that for as long as you have the business. I know you’re an owner operator but at the end of the day the truck is a tool. Using the truck to trade in ideally before each year so you can claim it on your tax if not every two years maintaining low miles on a diesel 4 x 4 that you bought at a plan pricing you’ll have the ability to resell it for more than you paid using that timeline. You also will retain that it will give me a feeling of having a nice new truck for your business, your customers will see you in a nice new truck and it will represent your business very well there has to be a value assigned to that to what we can’t pinpoint exactly however a landscaper showing up in a nice new truck can come in the higher price then the guy that’s pulling up in a 20 year old Beater that leaks oil in his driveway. Remember I know you get excited when you purchase a vehicle I do the same thing everybody does. The smartest way to go about it is purchase the truck that has the highest residual value meaning highest resell drive it for the shortest period of time at least close to a year. And every time you go in for an oil change and they offered to buy it let them appraise it the preowned market and appraisal values are no different than the stock market they go up and down. In addition the manager overseeing these appraisals will notice hey we’ve looked at this guys truck three times And we still haven’t sold them a truck let’s see if we throw a couple extra grand to the deal maybe we can sell a car today. That’s their thought process plus what else are you doing while you’re getting it all change. It may take an extra 10 minutes maybe 20 gives you plenty of time to pass up business cards to make conversation with the coffee machine with everybody possible Promoting your business in one way or another. We’ve all had those simple conversations that get struck up at AutoZone Walmart wherever the next thing you know they ask for a business card and week or two later you’re doing the job for them. I’m getting off track, the point being numbers don’t lie and understanding business takes a little bit of learning, losing and experience doing both and experiencing what led to the result of the two outcomes. Buying the diesel 4 x 4 I would imagine the cheapest lariat for the middle of the road XLT diesel are going to have the highest residual values so that would be more than the trucks I would buy. Being a business expense the initial cost shouldn’t scare you. Anything you do for your business you should already have it mapped out with an exit strategy. My exit strategy would be to trade it or sell it at the right times with the goal of breaking even or at the very worst losing five or six grand, and getting a new truck taking a vantage of the tax incentive to offset the loss depreciation and now I have a brand new billboard to represent my business, also have a boost in confidence because I just bought a new truck so everybody knows how that feels #Great!YouDon’tHave toBuyTires,YouDon’tHave toDoBrakes.TheRealityIsWithThatStrategyYouNeverHave toPayForAnyMaintenanceOtherThan an oil Change. BecauseItWillBeUnderWarrantyUntilYouSellIt Best of luck to you and your growing business I hope 2023 is a year of expansion and growth and filled with blessings you and your family deserve! Perhaps new home🤔😎
I totally agree with you on the gas for your application. You drive a mile shut it off -repeat -repeat - that is where the gas engines are far superior to diesels. I personally went diesel because my area is much more spread out. I have to pull 5 mi 9% grades to get to some properties. The loaded and empty mpg great, and honestly until you get into the stuff that breaks after 200,000 mi the maintenance isn’t really that much more where I notice it if that makes sense. As for the 250-350- I went with the 350- that upgrade cost is barely noticeable and my payload is like 3750 lbs . Do I need that much payload often - no, but take winter for example - I’ve got a box with about 500lbs add a 1000lb plow then 1500lbs of salt in the back. -driver, gear, etc you realize just how easily you can reach that payload number. These Ford trucks are fantastic though. Solid choice and their resale value really trumps other brands by a good margin. As for your sync problems. I think you have an early 17. Try to have that updated. I had an early 17 (150) with the same system as you and after an update it was substantially better. The updated sync 3.4 like in the 2020 superdutys and sync 4 in brand new Ford products are light years better. But if you ever have a problem press and hold the power button and the nexttrack/fast forward button at the same time to reset it
The company I used to work for bought the 3.5l ecoboost f150s and we pulled 8500lbs chippers with them all the time. The trucks had plenty of power to pull the weight, just didn't have the suspension for it.
I have the same truck but in the XLT model. Love my truck and do not have the problems with my fob honking or the issue with the phone /blue tooth.(I have an upgrade) Maybe my electronic package is different and that's why i don't have issues. I use a dump trailer as my dumper but I have the property for any/all equipment. Thanks you for your review. I don't nearly have the milage you have and I don't work mine as much, but I used to when I was younger. This is my 6th Ford truck. Oh.........I agree 100 percent on the gas engine. Truck prior was a 350 crew 8ft Lariat diesel, Loved my 7.3 engine but was more power and torque then I ever needed. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze aka the MONEY repairs, oil changes, upfront costs etc.
Hope you guys enjoyed the video and it helps you guys when deciding to buy your new truck! I know a ton of you will be upgrading in 2021, this is just my "honest" ;) review of my F250! God bless!

Should have got a diesel
I keep everything gas mowers and truck that way when I pull up to gas station I only have to get gas and not both and its simple. Thunda is a awesome truck bro.
@@codyrocchio4026 i own a 2019 diesel wish inhad bought gas. You give up paylaod on a 250 and you have those looming bills over your head.
Dang 3 years have flown by who here remembers the old F-150
02 F150 2wd 4 door with the tonneau cover and his services on the back driver door!😁
It's been another 3 years
The water in the door is supposed to happen, it’s a drain field to keep water from leaking into the cab.
Wow that's solid advice!!
Thank you for the great advice!
Holy moly. 3 years? I remember when I watched that video when you bought it the day you posted
Gosh I know, that video still chokes me up! Time is moving so fast for us all.
Well best of luck to you in 2021! Use your skills as an accountant to help you run a super profitable business!
Not sure what being Scottish has to do with knowing trucks? Do y'all ride around on sheep all day? ;~)
@@blackwolfnews1722 they don’t drive 3/4 tons up there man not anywhere in the EU
Hey Brian you’re 100% correct if you spend all day in the truck get the most comfortable vehicle you can get for yourself
The 7.3 is definitely a solid choice. Decent mileage for a giant engine and will pull anything you can hook up to a 250
This didn’t hold up well lol
In regard to diesel vs gas, it’s important to remember that when a modern diesel truck goes into the shop, you usually aren’t leaving without paying a few thousand dollars. Most modern diesel trucks regularly require body off frame repairs and that’s gets really expensive.
Unless you do a high quality EGR delete, in which case you pay EPA fines instead of repair costs.
Body of frame repairs are actually common for many trucks now a days. It’s easier to work on the engine.
Toyota does it with the tundra
That new tundra is crap right?
Seems like those are just lease trucks now, not lifetime trucks.@@troyb4533
Yes the new 7.3 gasser!!
I am a Chevy guy, but I am not blind to quality when I see it. That F250 is gorgeous! Makes me want one as we speak! Great content Sir.
Diesel for me, I am also towing 10k plus daily.
Would it be an issue to tow with the 6.2l and 3.73 axle ratio almost everyday if you're towing anywhere from 8,000-10,500lbs?
I almost went with a F250 but GM finally raised there trucks so they don’t sit so low anymore so I went with a GMC 2500 and I went with the diesel. At the end of the day though if it gets the job done it doesn’t matter what brand they all have lots of pros and a lot more cons lol. Keep up the videos Brian your doing well for yourself.
You got one bad ass gmc diesel
Damian Juarez thank you I really like it a lot GM did well on this one.
2012 F150 xl, standard cab long box. 4x4 with the 3.7v6, it is plenty of truck for my lawn care business with enclosed trailer as well.
Pull a 6x12 loaded with my F150 and don't notice it. Pull a 7x18 fully loaded with 2 zero turns, etc.. and notice it but have no problem at all.
Love the truck and hope to one day have something as nice as that. Currently in a 94 F350 7.5L workhorse she runs like new and has never left me behind.
You mean 7.3 ?? never heard of a 7.5

Thanks so much Brian for your content!
My f350 7.3 diesel definitely changed my business forever for the better. Got rid of any load capacity issue I could have at my size.
It’s all about the sound and to say you have a diesel these women barrel racers act like they need a diesel there hauling 1 horse just a status symbol
I love duramax engies

Mike Kren I love the dodge trucks had 2 but they rust way to much for my taste
@@MrTs7520 agreed. Chrysler look great, but quality doesn't last.
Lol true, but don’t tell the diesel owners that!
@@BriansLawnMaintenance they already know lol. Lot of my buddies have them. It's a requirement in the south. If you got a diesel you are a somebody 😂
Gas or diesel?
@@birdlady2725 diesel
@@gonchalo95 I just got a used 2wd f350 6.7 regular cab. Looks like it had been a work truck before but other than some minor dents, seems clean and runs like a champ. Only have a cargo trailer right now, but, want to travel cross country. See some stuff I've passed thru but didn't get to stop before. Being in New England, most want 4x4 for plowing etc. I figured it would be one less thing to go wrong (I pray). Good luck finding 'the one'.
Agreed 100% I will be upgrading to an f250 gas when the time is right for my business. Still rocking the f-150 for now!
Thanks brother
You can improve mileage a little bit by getting rid of the stock muffler go to a Flowmaster or magnaflow or even better dual exhaust change the air intake. You be surprised that that truck will gain a little bit more in power and mileage done it mine.
I bought a 2017 F250 XLT diesel with only 13K miles on it for 45K (before warranty, tax, etc.) back in July. So you see, I couldn't pass that up. Love it so far. Camper trailer in our future.
Good, straight forward, experiential truck review. Really appreciated your candidness.
I ran mine through the Mr. Wash Car Wash in Rehobeth Deleware, 7 bucks for the basic wash, no problems.
I went with the 2018 f250 aswell, xlt 6.2 gasser.
Pretty happy with it, been a great work truck. Tows well and looks professional
Great video
6.2 has proven to be a very reliable power plant.
Don’t get me wrong I love diesel but right now its to much stuff with all the epa rules I’m a gas guy less stuff to worry about
I'm with you 💯. I have a 2006 duramax but when thats gone will get a gas motor for sure.
Rah
Gosh that sounds like a damn good deal, congrats dude
Sir you are 100% correct on you gas choice over diesel.
I went from 6.7 Cummins dually to 6.4 gas PW 3yrs ago no regrets. You need to look at the Ram Power Wagon lol.
The power wagon can only tow 10,400 lbs correct
I agree when u live in ur truck spring the extra $$$ for the better trim.
Watched you buy the truck and Honestly it was more exciting watching you buy your truck than when I bought mine lol
Lol
Super informative, I agree with so much of what you said. In Florida an F150 is all you need but I've been considering my next as a F250 gasser for the boat more than the business. Currently running a 2013 F150 Limited. I agree about the creature comforts!
I love the truck. I have the 2017 F350 XLT with thr 6.2 best investment. I have no complaints the truck does everything I could want and more.
Can’t wait to see your new equipment line up for 2021! Also, congratulations on your new home. My wife and I built 2 custom homes as well. Best decision we’ve ever made. Enjoy yourself new home and family, congratulations brother!
Thanks Verne!
Love the f250! My 2016 f150 has sync3 and the Bluetooth has been solid so far. I love it
I have an 89 F350. I just don't want to give it up. High beam switch on the floor, crank up windows, standard diesel. I love my truck.
7.3 IDI or 6.9 IDI?
@@americantrucknation4891 7.3
BecauseItWillBeUnderWarrantyUntilYouSellIt
Best of luck to you and your growing business I hope 2023 is a year of expansion and growth and filled with blessings you and your family deserve!
Sweet video! Im in line to get the cyber truck. Hates will love it
I have the same truck but in the XLT model.
