One thing that would help with Red is that certain days don't have hail. Christmas and your birthday (registered on your DS) have diamond dust instead of hail, so you wouldn't need Sunny Day to avoid the damage.
Another fellow diamond dust knower! Only thing I’ll correct (at least based on my bulbapedia research) is that it seems like it’s New Year’s Eve and not Christmas that has the diamond dust. And it seems the players birthday doesn’t effect diamond dust until XY.
A thing to note, is that it's possible to disable the hail on Mt. Silver. On certain days, the hail is actually "diamond dust" instead, which just disables the hail effect. Might be something to look into when trying to take on Red in the future, since it means you aren't taking damage every turn and it also means his Blizzards arent guarenteed hits anymore. 15th March for example is one of the days where there's no hail on Mt. Silver.
Claire: "You have to prove you lost your lazy ideals!" Jrose having grinded a spinarak to defeat everything in the game but the last boss, and grinding that boss hundreds of times: *Eye twitches*
That line isn't what got me. The line from the trainer inside the cave, accusing you of being 'uninvited' is. Like dude, the gym leader just told me to come here. That doesn't count as an invitation?!
But why did they have to make a spider BUG type? The same as why did they make Breloom a grass type? Spiders are not bugs and Mushrooms are not plants.
@maestro9765 what do you want them to do here? Make a new class because it's not "technically" a part of the group even tho people equate spiders as bugs and mushrooms as plants.
Please don't be discouraged to upload runs you didn't win, it makes it all the more interesting! I'd love to see more! I once stopped a challenge run of Omega ruby when I realised my wurmple only run would be very very unlikely to get past Origin forme groudon
@@eeveestars3668 i actually don't recall how it works in ORAS, but I think by that late in the series, ur probably forced to battle and/or capture the legendary pkmn
I love the fact that this was a failed challenge. It sets a precedent for future impossible challenges that it's not just a given that they'll be completable just because you uploaded them. Raises the stakes! Great content, JRose.
@@Shadowjackal Exactly. Jrose stated he's never failed a challenge before. My first thought was wait the gen 1 magikarp was a failed challenge. . Now im sure he knew that challenge was impossible before doing it. But, he never mentioned it until he got to the tower with the pokeflute. Which is were the run stopped. The challenge was can you beat gen 1 with a magikarp. The answer is no it can not be done.
Yeah he’s mentioned before that he had a Beldum run which ended at Steven I believe? And he never uploaded it even though he reached the last battle. So I’m glad he’s seemingly changed the rules on this and will show unsuccessful runs if they get this far, even though I personally consider Kanto postgame so he did beat the main game
To be honest, you put a lot of time and effort to come up with the strategy needed in order to defeat Red, I think most people here won't mind that you couldn't do it. What's cool about your runs is the way you narrate and show the story of doing all that crazy stuff, and it was honestly interesting to see such a weak pokemon actually get that far.
1:17:34 there’s actually a way around having to use a move slot on Sunny Day. Starting in Gen 4, there’s certain dates in each game that cause a weather called diamond dust. While mostly cosmetic in snow filled areas in the over world, it does have the added bonus of overwriting hail in battle. By fighting Red specifically on the dates of February 29th (on leap years), March 15th, October 10th, or December 31st, you can avoid having to worry about hail damage. No taking 2 turns to set up sunny day, not even needing sunny day on the move set in the first place. I can’t speak to if this makes it humanly possible, but it certainly creates a better strategy and needing a bit less luck. Since you did give us you Spinarak’s exact stats, I may try and see if this would be possible even without the perfect spinarak.
I was really starting to find 'can you beat pokemon with X' questions a little silly because I'd never seen one fail. I still really enjoy watching the challenges and strategies, but the answer was becoming an obvious "yeah, duh". I massively appreciate you releasing a failed run, because failure actually being possible has made these videos a genuine mystery again, and it's super engaging!
I actually really appreciate that you were humble enough to post a run in which you fell a bit short. This attempt felt relatable and authentic in terms of trying to conquer a colossal challenge that sometimes is only theoretically possible to accomplish.
“I don’t cheat to find out my IVs because that’s not representative of how people play.” My brother in Christ you’re using a level 100 Spinarak, all conventionality has been lost already
scott's plays usually uses perfect iv pokemon and he uses hidden power which jrose doesn't like to do. i think i prefer scott but i still enjoy jrose. he's right that most of us don't like when he resets because he got too lucky. my argument for that is if the pokemon sucks, it needs all the luck it can get. no one is probably going to try to emulate a run with a shit pokemon and the videos are just for entertainment value, so i personally think jrose should go the way of scott and pick perfect natures with perfect ivs and use hidden power if he needs to in order to show if a pokemon can legitimately beat the game or not. if you're not giving it all of the chances it has available to it it feels like a failure of the trainer, not the pokemon.
I love how some of the players are like "I won't use items because that's cheating" and then go "so then I use swords dance to abuse the badge glitch."
@@ninjaguyYTThey don't resist using non held items because it's cheating, they avoid it because it's boring for everyone involved. Almost all runs are doable with the use of items - outside like gen 1 runs being halted by normal/fighting only mons facing ghost roadblock. Especially when you're able rebattle trainers for unlimited/renewable money potential. You will always be able to out spend your opponent. Trainers rarely have items, and have a very small limited pool when they do (think maybe 5 items max). They will never have 99+ full restores or stacks of xyz etc at ready in official games. Sure, maybe you don't like badge boost glitch, okay, but watching magikarp beat the game through the use thousands of items is boring and slow AF to watch. Would hardly get views.
Jrose, lemme just say right now: I LOVE the fact that this run wasn't a success!!! Yes, it is nice to see a "weak" Pokemon win against some of the strongest trainers in the game. But sometimes, a failed run is what people need to see! Hell, the fact that you beat the E4 and all post game gym leaders is insane enough! I love your content man, you go through so much and teach us a lot on how these things work! What interests me too, personally, is when you get into the odds of things, like that ending talking about the INSANE 1/16,000 chance to beat Red!! That's literally almost double over odds for getting a shiny! What I'm trying to say, is that even though some of these will turn out to be failed runs, at the end of the day, you still did your best and did everything you could to get past these battles! Keep up the good work man, always stick to what you believe in, and best of luck for future runs!

@@aminadabbrulle8252 the thing with OG magikarp was if you knew about struggle being a normal type move in Gen 1 then you knew going it was impossible. There was no way to hit a ghost Pokémon. However with this run it was theoretically possible just the odds made it basically impossible

Really enjoyed the ending. Keeps us all honest and on our toes as viewers. In future videos I’d love to hear you talk more about deciding which moves you use throughout the game. For example, when/why you decided to get rid of leech life. Or when you realized psychic outlived it’s usefulness etc. it feels like a really interesting part of the journey for me!
10:00 Sucker Punch is actually 80 base power prior to gen 7. Believe it or not, Ariados' abundance of priority and later access to Sticky Web actually gave it some surprising success in the Psychic infested lands of Ubers
Really bad at sticky webs. If you are using webs in ubers slurpuff is better. Ariados can lay a single layer of toxic spikes against darkrai and that's it.
@@YOSSARIAN313 Yeah, after gen 6 Ariados got pretty consistently powercrept in pretty much every area. Ribombee's Bug/Fairy typing makes it fantastic for the Psychic and Dragon infested gen 7 Ubers. Slurpuff is also a really great choice these days thanks to Misty Explosion and Unburden. Haven't played much of gen 8 Ubers since Shaymin is stuck in BDSP, so I'm not sure which one would be best, but I got a lot out of Scarf Ribombee in gen 7 so its at least decent
Just a small nitpick: when a stat is lowered by 1 stage (say, Attack is lowered to -1 by Intimidate), you lose 33% of it, not 50%. No stat modifier corresponds to the fraction 2/2; stat increases add to the numerator of this fraction (3/2 is +1, 4/2 is +2, and so on) while stat decreases add to the denominator (2/3 is - 1, 2/4 is - 2, and so on). So an Attack boost to +1 is 50% more attack, while an Attack lowering to -1 is 33% less attack. Great to see you venture in later generations for these runs!
He knows, later when up against Drake he mentions how the second Intimidate would put his attack at 50% but the first at 75%. Of course this isn't entirely accurate but that's the point he knows roughly how attack drops work he just isn't the best at math.

fantastic job as always. far from being disappointed, i'm glad to see a run that technically ends in failure. if challenges were guaranteed to always be uploaded as successes or otherwise left on the cutting room floor then there would be no tension. the occasional 'i made it all the way to the end but the final hurdle was too high' keeps things fresh and exciting. plus, it proves that you're not just picking the low hanging fruit for video content, but rather actually pushing yourself out of your comfort zone into uncharted territory. good for you.
Monotype bug challenges are still the most fun way for me to play the games. Seeing you play the pre evo of my favourite Ariados, makes me excited for this one!
I also consider Red the "actual ending" of GSC/HGSS because for me this game is a direct sequel to RBY both literally and figuratively that ultimately concludes in fighting your "old self" at the end. And honestly that part is probably why GSC/HGSS is one of the most loved games in the series.
Lol @ the Clefairy using Lunar Dance. I had a Togepi on a HGSS Nuzlocke and thought I’d use metronome for a laugh. Guess what move it got the first time I used it? Bloody Lunar Dance. Painful flashbacks! 😂

There's a clip on the Johto Journeys opening with a Spinarak climbing a thread, and it looks pretty determined. Maybe the Spinarak soloing the game in this video is the same one?
Honestly I appreciate uploading an unsuccessful challenge. Because it is about the story, and failure provides an opportunity for growth and I for one am now doubly excited to see Ledyba. Thank you for the video!
I love how it is mandatory to beat Red, but no one bats an eye at ending Black/White challenge at Ghetsis, when Alder should be the real end of the run.
except BW has a solid ending. no new region opens when you defeat ghetsis. no new gyms. of course playing through the postgame of BW feels like the right thing to do, it's so big. but the main story definitely ends at ghetsis, and it ends so freaking well. as for the credits roll, it happens in every game when you beat the E4 again. if for some reason alder left the league and you battled him somewhere else, like red, the credits wouldn't roll

Personally, I’m shocked that it took _this long_ for something like this to happen. Can’t imagine anyone being upset with how it ended, I mean it was bound to happen eventually.
Great ending to the video. The Blue/Red commentary is so engaging. Like many others JRose, I want to thank you for the content. Continued success to you 🙂
Edit: Emulators/old games are weird about save states. Sometimes, loading them even modifies the save file, even if you didn't save after the save state. That part I don't understand, since the save file is oftentimes independent of the game rom. In my experience with Pokemon, usually doing some other action like using a potion, switching pokemon around in your party, etc. will alter the RNG values after that. Just some action to change what's in memory. I personally like the videos that show it's not possible. The challenges have always been "Can I beat (game) with (pokemon)?" - sometimes the answer is just "No, I can't." and that's cool too. It was cool to see you get as far as you did, and you certainly put forth way more effort than I think anyone would have requested in a video where beating Red was (realistically) impossible. Well done!
Jrose, What a fantastic and frustrating run you experienced here. Your effort was absolutely incredible and your fan base will not hold it against for not defeating Red. Amazing content here, thank you for all your effort and brilliant commentary throughout.
This is a movie where the bad guys win and it’s about damn time 😂😂 I actually think it’s even better content and I honestly started to think it might not work just because you hit lv 100 so quickly but great run can’t wait for the next
Ditto. I love it when one of his impossible challenges lives up to its name. If he found ways to beat all of them, the "impossible challenge" label would be false advertising.
Knowing that some of the runs going forward may fail gives the videos more suspense too, so I agree, failed runs really add to the content of the channel
It’s never about actually winning. It’s the journey! It’s trying to answer the question “is is possible?” And for me, I sit through your videos because I have that same question. Is it possible to do? It’s entertaining and fun to see strategies and trying to overcome obstacle but at the end of the day the question is answered. And I for one enjoyed this particular ride :)
Love that you named your rival "???"! That's what my sister and I named our rival in Crystal back in the day 😄 we didn't speak (much) English back then, so we didn't understand that the questionmarks were a placeholder for "insert rival's name here".
Don't worry about the ending! I actually think it's really exciting that you uploaded a run that you can't beat. Kinda holds the expense when seeing a video and wondering if it's actually going to be possible or not. That why I liked the first Magikarp run so much! Oh, and especially the Feebas and Ditto runs as well, since the question kept on popping up: is this doable? So no, I am actually very happy you made this video. And bro: look at everything you tried to do to make it work! There are very little people actually able to be this persistent. So darn it, this was simply amazing!
Agree 1000%. I actually came across your R&C wrench only challenges the other week and I was extremely impressed by them. While these challenges are super fun to watch (probably less so to play), the simple truth is that games aren’t designed to be beatable with these random and obscure playstyles in mind. I saw it in Vorselon’s hangar and at Commander Argos in your ACiT run and we saw it here with Red. And it’s just like JRose said, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey :)
I like that you showed one where it wasn’t practically possible. These wouldn’t feel as much like “impossible challenges” if you never showed us any that you couldn’t finish. Plus it was fun to see hg/ss and Gen 4 in general
One of my favorite runs you've done Jrose, very entertaining to watch, the extra dorky humor was a welcome addition. Love the videos man, keep up the great work!
34:37 Silverpowder is obtainable, but it might take a bit as you'd need to Headbutt trees on Route 47 leading up to the Safari Zone. Butterfree is a 50% chance of appearing and getting the item is only 10% of that so its possible just a bit of a pain
If you catch a Butterfree with the Compound Eyes ability and put it at the front of your party, it raises your chance of a wild pokemon having a held item by a large amount (can't remember the exact amount, but it's significant). If you let it get KO'd, and have your second party pokemon have the move Thief, you can still get the Compound Eyes effect without having to switch out to your Thief-er on every encounter. This is how I got a ton of lucky eggs off Chanseys (5%) in Diamond version in a relatively short amount of time.
To add to the "stat reducing berries" strats you mentioned both for Blue and Red, i don't think that's even an option in Generation 4, because of the way Effort value work in Gen 3 and 4 specifically. In gen 3 and 4, Stats increases/decreases due to Evs are only recalculated in 3 different situations, Level up, vitamins and Ev reduction berries. However! Vitamins cannot increase your Evs once you have 100 Evs in that stat in this gen. Meaning that if you use Ev reducing berries after you got to level 100, the maximum Evs you can get in an indivual stat with vitamins is 109, and battles won't ever increase your stats again. The only way to Ev train a pokemon to perfect stats in this gen is doing it at level 99 or lower.
There’s a reason why Arceus cannot EV Train in Gen 4, since Hall of Origin Arceus is not obtainable aside from exploiting/Action Replay. And, the only way to get Arceus legitimately is through Mystery Gift, which happens to be Level 100.

Nah. Another commenter took on this challenge and, even taking into account the limitations for fixing EVs at 100, he was able to craft a stat spread and move set that beat Red in 20 minutes and the only "instant reset" was if Pikachu used Volt Tackle. Even being paralyzed didn't matter.
I just wanted to add a few ideas to make the very last fight slightly more "stable". It's really farfetched but with this strat you could one shot charizard. As you said, spinarak does survive some hits , the more important one being thunderbolt. If you survive the thunderbolt, you can place an agility, making you faster than red's team. You can then one shot the pikachu with poison jab (while avoiding paralysis of course). From then, you can outspeed charizard and use natural gift. Using naturtal gift while holding a magost berry turns it into a 70 based physical rock type move. This can one shot charizard with range. (or guaranteed with a perfect spinarak) As a note, you can stop the hail from falling in this battle (with specific dates), making all blizzard moves 70% accurate, allowing spinarak to survive with low HP, and giving another free move slot. The last move slot could be used for attract: your spinarak being female and faster, you could infatuate all of red's team. it's heavily luck based of course and still not in the realm of the viable. After that, it's just poison jabs, waiting hopefully for crits (except Lapras) and poison statuses (except venusaur). This strat still doesn't represent a real playthrough since the magost berry can only be obtained through the pokewalker. But it's the theoretical best I think. Even for a perfect spinarak, the chances of winning stays in the thousands (1/2048 just to have 9 infatuated turns, the amount of poison jabs necessary for a perfect spinarak to finish the battle).
It had to happen sometime! Once we get a little deeper into the weeds of the red/blue runs I think the DNFs are going to start happening more frequently, especially with the bug peeps. All hail the W E E D L E R U N
Nah, I don't think it could happen in Red and Blue, he will always be able to finish. No intimidate, no Red boss fight, I think he would always beat the game
@@Marlonbc90 He could have beat this one too but arbitrarily barred certain strategies and didn't fix his EVs. Someone else took his exact Spinarak, redid the EVs specifically to make Pikachu and Charizard possible, and beat Red in 20 minutes. Jrose gives up if he can't outspeed and one/two-shot very often since he refuses to use most strategies that do literally anything else.
Honestly I'm surprised Spinarak made it as far as it did! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, honestly failed challenge or not, you always make it entertaining and the amount of dedication and patience is super impressive. Always a great watch!
I loved this run. I think it is just as important to show off the runs that are practically unbeatable. Having every run be a win would get boring after a while. I absolutely adore and admire your persistence, calculation, and determination to do these runs! You have an incredible amount of willpower and clever strategy and I commend you greatly for that.
Clicked on this at first thinking it was a how to on where to find spinarak, stayed and watched the rest of the vid. You sir are an amazing creator. Bravo
One thing to note, even though it didn't ultimately matter. I think you said that Silver Powder is not available by the time you reach the E4. You can actually get it off of wild Butterfree, I think as soon as you have Headbutt, or lacking that, once you reach the Bug-Catching Contest.

You know, around bugsy I was wondering if you would ever make and post a video where you are unable to finish. Your series is called "is it possible..." after all so I always found it odd how you've never actually posted a video of one you've actually lost. Whether you've scrapped losing runs or not in the past, I really hope you continue to show difficult runs like this regardless of winning or losing. It keeps the suspense and I am in shock and awe that there came a challenge deemed to difficult for the great Jrose11! Keep up the awesome videos man!
Doesn't Spinarak learn Night Shade early on? In a solo run, where you're gonna be overleveled anyway, that seems like an attack you might want to keep.
@@Pao-vo8mf He gets stuck on certain ideas. Sometimes they work out and sometimes he's banging his head against a wall trying to make it work. Often, when that happens, he can abandon a bad strategy and find a good one to salvage a run. Sometimes, he needs to start over, but won't. This kinda *feels* like one of those runs. Still, interesting to see in action and wonder "what if"
"I'm not going to be beating this one-" aw, that's a bit disappointing "-because mathematically the best attainable odds of winning you can possibly get assuming a Spinarak perfectly-optimized for the task are 1/11,111" oh you know what that's perfectly understandable actually Ah, well... Spinarak, little buddy, you had a good run, and it's impressive you made it as far as you did
Super long, and super interesting. These 'can I' videos are usually a foregone conclusion that with enough levels and enough experimentation then Yes. A No once in a while is refreshing, and baby spider managed to make it all the way to the top of Mount Silver and turn into Barbecue for Charizard and that's ok
I usually don’t comment on videos but I’ve been watching all of your runs and I loved that you took not being able to complete this challenge in stride. You put in a *ton* of work (understatement of the year) and it was incredibly satisfying to watch, even if you didn’t win. These videos, to me, have always been about “is it possible to do x” and we’ve finally seen a video that poses the question and answers back “no, not really” and there is nothing wrong with that being the answer. Loved the video, I’m glad you decided to release it anyway. I hope you didn’t let the loss to Red dishearten you too much. Thanks for having the patience to do these incredible challenges. Can’t wait to see the next journey you invite us on. :)
I just wanted to say that I’m glad you chose to release this video. As you said, it’s not about the destination, it’s the journey, and as a viewer I can say it was a fulfilling and entertaining video from beginning to end. Whether the challenge is won or lost, it’s fun to witness. Thanks for all your content!
I love that you went out of your way to give us a scenario in which defeating Red is, even if only theoretically, possible. As you said, it's about journey - and I'm pretty sure 99% of your viewers agree. We wouldn't be watched countless hours of your content if we wouldn't love it. By the way, I'm not sure if it's possible without too much hussle, but I would love to see something similar for other impossible challenges - like if you decide that it's impossible to defeat Red with some other, "standard" Pokemon, if you could then try few times with perfect IVs and EVs (but only if it looks possible - so you won't waste your time for cases like that, when even with perfect Pokemon you would need astronomical luck). Although I understand if it would took too much time or if you decide that it's against spirit of these challenges. And one other thing - if you are ever doing that Ledyba challenge, if it still seems impossible to defeat Red, you could try using both Ledyba and Spinarak :P In any case, amazing video. If you ever wonder if you should post some video because you didn't complete the challenge - post it. 100% of the times. There are tons of people, including me, that would love to watch it. Maybe you can use your second channel for that, if you don't want to use your main one.
Fantastic video as always. Spoilers: I'm honestly pleased you uploaded the video even with Spinarak not being able to beat Red. It's always interesting to me to see how possible a run is even if not every run is realistic to do. I think with these harder challenges the fun of watching is partly not knowing if it'll lead to victory or not.
Man, Spinarak have the weirdest level up moves. You wouldn't expect a spider thingy learning moves like Night shade or Psychic naturally, such a unique mon
Admitting when you can't succeed is better than hiding a failure. This was a great video with a fantastic ending! Please go on teaching people that failing is okay. It's a great message to send. This has become my favorite challenge videos because of that.
Don't feel bad about not finishing, most of us will never have the patience that you have! I loved this video, I actually like to see a truly impossible challenge, and showing us just how impossible is going above and beyond! A+ video!
I can’t help but think that Lance threw that last battle cuz he didn’t have the heart to wipe the floor with this little kid and his bug for the 100th time in a row
I really love these longer form videos, and it's great to see new runs done in different games as well. Keep up the great work JRose and never hesitate to upload a run just because it doesn't go how you'd like.
Gen 4??? On Jrose’s channel??? Omg! 😱. I strongly prefer the first 3 generations. But I DID play a little of gen 4 and you made a great video! Keep up the great work homie! 💯 🤙
For me, watching your videos has never been about seeing if you actually can beat the game with said pokemon. It's completely been about just watching you go through with it. Win or lose, your content is top notch.
Great video as always, one thing: did you know you could theoretically do a magikarp solo run in gen 1? There was a special event magikarp that had dragon rage so that one lets you hit ghost and avoids using struggle before level 15
I dunno about that, I tried a sonic boom only challenge and I got walled by sabrina because of recover spam. In the case of a magikarp solo run, he has to be able to kill the 2 Gengars and Haunter, being able to endure all the "Agatha Lottery Shenanigans" and hope to have enough pp , because Agatha can heal her pokémon with Dream Eater and healing items. So , it all depends on how much Hp the two Gengar and Haunter have combined and if it's less than the max amount of Dragon Rages damage, hope she will never heal them (but hey , at least he could reach the Elite four no probs).
Just looked this up. I think there were only 20 distributions and no-one can currently track any of them down. Most likely, the people who got them had their Gameboy cartridge run out of battery and their data wiped. Also it's on Japanese red/green, not western red/blue.
Gotta give you a fuckton of credit for getting to Red while using this weak yet adorable spooder. Reminds me of a challenge Silph did; Spinarak in Gold. Red's Charizard was just completely and totally impossible for him to beat due to the way the AI sends out 'Mons, which is pretty much what happened here too. I wonder if the Diamond Dust weather mechanic would help.
Really love the Content from other gens. Even tho this amounted to a very rare Jrose L, it really is all about the journey. Thanks for putting in the work. Keep the vids coming!
I’m sure it was probably deflating to have to acknowledge the impossibility of this from a practical standpoint, but the ending honestly rocked in my eyes. This was a super cool video to watch (as are all of them) and thank you for doing this all the time Mr. Jrose. We appreciate it a lot.

I always appreciate your dedication to these videos. There’s a lot of reasons why you’re my favorite UA-camr, and this is one of them; even though the challenge failed, you still uploaded this video. I had a few moments where I thought “that could have been done better,” like Night Shade would have helped immensely for Bugsy and rival 2, as well as teaching Dig earlier to make rival 3 much simpler. Other than that, I feel like you did very well and am excited to see how you perform with Ledyba!
You def deserve a like for this vid! The journey was full of ups and down with a twist at the end I didnt expect to see. Keep doing what you are doing, many of us watch every upload!
Not learning night shade since the beginning of the game is a huge miss in my opinion. In this kind of battle you have to overlevel and night shade shine here, basically a 2-3 hko on every pokemon. Also for steelix, it doesn't have a good special defense, you should have kept psychic, it's the best move you could have used in this challenge
It was, Night shade is actually the best move for Bugsy and rival 2, and same for steelix actually. Psychic is actually bad against steelix though, it resists and from my experience, you'll barely land a hit at all LOL It however is very helpful against Koga's 3 pokemon however, same for Bruno and Karen's Gengar :)
Honestly appericate the honesty at the end there haha it's fun and exciting to see you accomplish something that people say is impossible but as you said you want to feel like you actually accomplished it rather than it being a luck of the draw or in this case, throwing some spinaracks against a wall to see who all sticks! So completely understandable that you wouldn't want to keep forcing that run! Enjoyed the video all the same and look forward to the next one!
I had flashbacks to when I beat HG with just a volbeat. When battling Red, the only way to win was to essentially get crits on every hit. It ended up taking hundreds of resets and hours upon hours of time. But mission accomplished, right? T_T
Great video. It's really cool to see you figure out all these amazing strategies for beating these games, even if in this case it wasn't possible to beat Red. I actually really like the longer videos, they go by pretty quick and it feels like I'm watching a friend having fun.
I thought it was like every Wednesday doesn't have hail or something like that.
For HGSS, the full set is Leap Day, Honen Matsuri, Pokemon Blue's release date and New Years Eve (Feb 29, Mar 15, Oct 10 and Dec 31).
@@TrevCL the virgin hail wuss vs. the Chad diamond dust knower
Is that a speedrun strat? I assume that would save a decent amount of time.
Silver.

Please do, it would be an awesome thing to see

I massively appreciate you releasing a failed run, because failure actually being possible has made these videos a genuine mystery again, and it's super engaging!
I actually really appreciate that you were humble enough to post a run in which you fell a bit short. This attempt felt relatable and authentic in terms of trying to conquer a colossal challenge that sometimes is only theoretically possible to accomplish.

scott's plays usually uses perfect iv pokemon and he uses hidden power which jrose doesn't like to do. i think i prefer scott but i still enjoy jrose. he's right that most of us don't like when he resets because he got too lucky. my argument for that is if the pokemon sucks, it needs all the luck it can get. no one is probably going to try to emulate a run with a shit pokemon and the videos are just for entertainment value, so i personally think jrose should go the way of scott and pick perfect natures with perfect ivs and use hidden power if he needs to in order to show if a pokemon can legitimately beat the game or not. if you're not giving it all of the chances it has available to it it feels like a failure of the trainer, not the pokemon.

Loving the consistency Jrose! I'm glad to see the return to form.
I love how it is mandatory to beat Red, but no one bats an eye at ending Black/White challenge at Ghetsis, when Alder should be the real end of the run.
Or Steven in emerald
Nah Steven is post game, nothing happens when you beat him, same as Cynthia in B/W. Defeating Red and Alder rolls the credits.
except BW has a solid ending. no new region opens when you defeat ghetsis. no new gyms. of course playing through the postgame of BW feels like the right thing to do, it's so big. but the main story definitely ends at ghetsis, and it ends so freaking well. as for the credits roll, it happens in every game when you beat the E4 again. if for some reason alder left the league and you battled him somewhere else, like red, the credits wouldn't roll

Well done!
Spinarak is one of my favourite Pokémon despite it’s lack of power. Never tried using it alone though.
Same ! And I am arachophobic lol guess it is just that cute
Jrose,
What a fantastic and frustrating run you experienced here.
I can't sleep and then my favourite PokéTuber is out here uploading a new run?
Perfection.
Love that you named your rival "???"! That's what my sister and I named our rival in Crystal back in the day 😄 we didn't speak (much) English back then, so we didn't understand that the questionmarks were a placeholder for "insert rival's name here".
I am no longer bored, thanks Jrose for saving my day
Don't worry about the ending!

I just did this play through in Crystal , I was pretty surprised at how well spinarak did through Johto.
One of my favorite runs you've done Jrose, very entertaining to watch, the extra dorky humor was a welcome addition. Love the videos man, keep up the great work!
I audibly said "Oh Jrose" in sympathy when I saw the pokemon and game combo. Thanks for doing this but I know this run had to have been brutal.
@@tommydevine9993 that's cool! I never knew that, I have to keep that in mind. Thanks!

Vitamins, Effort Value training, giving me another chance to train my team. I learned that the way in my Pokémon Platinum nuzlocke.

(or guaranteed with a perfect spinarak)
As a note, you can stop the hail from falling in this battle (with specific dates), making all blizzard moves 70% accurate, allowing spinarak to survive with low HP, and giving another free move slot.
The transitions are clean. Definitely noticed the step up. Commentary is great too, better than the others imo. High quality video.

Good call! There's just a problem that JRose's challenge doesn't allow catching wild pokémon except for HM/field move uses.
@@ZebNyan96 I wasn't sure if that might be the case, but with this case for example, it wouldn't be an issue. You get the Thief TM from the Rocket Hideout, and Spinarak can learn it. (It's a pretty widely distributed move too)

Thank you for what you do.
And one other thing - if you are ever doing that Ledyba challenge, if it still seems impossible to defeat Red, you could try using both Ledyba and Spinarak :P
In any case, amazing video. If you ever wonder if you should post some video because you didn't complete the challenge - post it. 100% of the times. There are tons of people, including me, that would love to watch it. Maybe you can use your second channel for that, if you don't want to use your main one.

In HGSS, RNG is determined when you get control in a turn. Basically, make the save state before the turn starts (before you can decide what to do)
Mad love for you on this one. I already had respect for you before, but my god what you had to do in this one was nuts.
Don't give him any more masochistic ideas 😂
I've always wondered if that were possible
There's also an event Magikarp in gen 2 that knows Bubble, so while you'd have to deal with the awful disobedience thing it's yet another option
I love how this was released a day or two after the Spinarak Spotlight Hour, where this pokemon spawned all over pokemon go for a hour
Really love the Content from other gens. Even tho this amounted to a very rare Jrose L, it really is all about the journey. Thanks for putting in the work. Keep the vids coming!
I would watch a series where you play with "perfect" versions of failed pokemon.
I’m sure it was probably deflating to have to acknowledge the impossibility of this from a practical standpoint, but the ending honestly rocked in my eyes. This was a super cool video to watch (as are all of them) and thank you for doing this all the time Mr. Jrose. We appreciate it a lot.
I dont think Surge is deserving of a demotion when you are double his level
Counterpoint, he's using a full team against a Spinarak.
@@Snipergod1024 counter counter point, not a RBY run, so it’s technically non-canon
Trainee surge needs to learn to get good.
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Not gonna lie, throwing a puzzle at a wall and having it come down perfectly would be 1000x more satisfying than doing it myself 😂
Psychic is actually bad against steelix though, it resists and from my experience, you'll barely land a hit at all LOL
It however is very helpful against Koga's 3 pokemon however, same for Bruno and Karen's Gengar :)
I think it's perfectly fair to end with answering "no" when this is the kind of luck that's required.
