Fun fact about the pokewalker, when HG/SS came out, the pokewalker ended up drawing the attention of many sport science facilities because for some unknown reason, it was RIDICULOUSLY good. If they have, simply fly nearby and repeat. HGSS were the GOAT. I'd take the Pokewalker with me to school and summer camp every day. If they ever bring back the Pokeathlon I will weep with joy, it's hands down my favorite side content in any Pokemon game ever.

Video games are an interactive medium, that is entirely subjective because everyone interacting has a difference experience than the next person. In drawings, sculptures, music, books, video games and anything else, that has room for interactivity and/or personal interpretation, there cannot be any objectivity by definition. Only subjectivity. The music I make is different from the music you make. The movies I watch are different from the movies you watch. The Pokemon game you like best is different from the one I like best. This can only ever be subjective. The mere fact, that you are responding to a person saying, that they liked a different game more should have clued you in on this simple fact. When I first entered Route 46/47 I just stood still for a couple of minutes because the ost from that route was soooo good. One of my favorites osts for sure.
because of the "time travel" trade mechanic, its possible to easily get a shiny ditto from the gen 1 games. 1 Catch the Lake of Rage Shiny Gyrados and replace all of its moves with non-damaging Gen 1 moves. 2 Trade shiny Gyrados to R/B 3 Use the Gyrados as your lead and go encounter a ditto on route to the east of Koga's Gym 4 Let the Ditto transform into the gyrados from the future and then catch it. 5 Trade Ditto to G/S/C. Now you should have a shiny ditto. From what I understand of this process, the Gen 1 Ditto copies the DVs of the Gyrados from G/S/C when it transforms, with the DVs being the factor that determines whether a pokemon is shiny or not. I think the DV value is the same for all pokemon for being shiny. So when you catch the Ditto, it will have the same DV value as the Gyrados and when you trade it to the future, It should be shiny. Assuming you did this on the 3DS Virtual Console editions of the games, you should then be able to send that shiny Ditto basically anywhere else you want.
Also, on GS if you bred a Pokémon with a Shiny Ditto, the egg would have a 1/64 chance of being shiny. I had a more than half of breedable shinies on my Gold/Silver versions. I still have the games, but sadly the batteries died and I lost my Pokémon, my Yellow and Blue version still work on their original batteries. Still play them on Stadium. Jesus fuck I feel old HUASHUSAUHSAHUSA
Yeah, that's how I got a shiny to migrate from Pokemon Yellow. Since you can't breed in the game and shiny hunting in it is borderline impossible, I wanted to be able to migrate *something* unique from the game and I usually migrate shinies from my playthroughs. Finding out I could get a shiny Ditto with my Yellow trainer's OT was something I jumped on immediately. You can even send the shiny Pokemon to Bank from Gen 1 and it will still turn out shiny since they updated it to properly check the formula of DV-shininess. It'll say it's from Kanto when you put in the 3DS Gen 7 games and have the OT of whichever trainer caught it independently of that fact (Gen 1 or 2).

The music was the reward for beating Lance and the Elite Four, IMO. The score is so underrated. While Kanto was kinda empty, it was wonderful experiencing the new renditions of the Kanto music on the Gameboy of all devices. That 16-bit sound composition deserves some type of award.
I feel like most people just focus on Diamond and Pearl, while these games belong in the same gen. HGSS were, are, and always will be the best Pokemon games IMO. The graphics, lore, interactivity, and OST. You're Pokemon follow you, and the colors are just amazing. There is something I feel when I replay these games: Familiarity.
the aesthetics of the original gen 2 games though are unmatched in my opinion. It has a cozy and retro vibe with enhanced color schemes from R/B/Y (which also had a nice retro aesthetic).

I played original Crystal/silver as a young kid and mostly all I remembered was that it was my favorite. I remembered random small things like head butting trees that made me love it. I never even knew you could go to Kanto until years later. I recently tried playing soul silver for the first time but stopped pretty quickly thinking it was all nostalgia and I was craving a rom hack challenge. But you said enough for me to want to play it again. Great vid
First they made Platinum which was super great, then HGSS came just after. There should be no mystery why to this day I still regard Gen 4 to be the greatest genereation of pokemon ever. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed those games..
@@northwestclasspnw7974 YES!! I was introduced to pokemon in gen 4 and I have to say DS era was PEAK pokemon. I love HGSS, platinum and B&W series with a passion!! With so much content in each of these games, Gen 6 therefore felt so much of a downgrade that I lost interest midway playing it.
It's only a year or two since I finally filled up my diamond pokedex, and now I have to do the same in platinum and HG, everytime I start a new playthrough (I restrict myself to holidays only) I just feel like my young self again and it's honestly terrific to be able to capture that feeling

It would be cool to get another gen where the map connects to a previous gen game and after you defeat the Elite 4, you can do the other map as post game content like in gen 2. That literally felt like 2 games in one
You mentioned it offhandedly, and from a purely gameplay sense you can't, but lorewise, you can 100% get 4 badges from Kanto and 4 from Johto and have that count.
This shows how utterly packed these games were. After all the extra features, they also added the Pokewalker, which is an entire added device. Mind blowing!

Remakes were the reheated versions, even if you didn't check the spoilers, you knew the game was figured out.
One correction. There is no restriction in trading a Pokémon with a held item back to red/blue. The Pokémon will come through with no item regardless. Fun fact though, if you trade the same Pokémon back to gold/silver, it will still be holding the same item.
The Celebi one is the only event I ever got to take part in, since it was the only one active when I got my DS. (You could also get a shiny version of each of Johto's trio as well, but I only got Suicune). Bonus points, you can trade that Celebi and one of those shiny dogs into Black or White via a special method and then get either Zoroa or Zoroark, which was especially fitting since they were released as a tie-in for the movie which introduced those Pokemon. The fight with Giovanni by itself is pretty sick.
Man, watching this makes me nostalgic for this game! And you're right, neither the new games nor the new remakes really scratch that itch quite like these did.
You’ve just shattered a moment from my childhood. I always use to use Cal as names for my characters in games. And always though I was just fighting myself in these games. Didn’t realise Cal was just the name they gave that trainer 😅😅😅
Saw the title and immediately clicked like. This game was the ultimate remake. So much. So SO much content. The creators really went above and beyond what they should have put into this game. I never new how lucky I was to have my parents purchase this game for me. I started playing in 2010 and stopped in 2014 but I’ve picked it back up and I am still finding new things to do. Props to the creators to this God given game to us. Truly the BEST Pokémon remake
I was fortunate enough to play Gold, Diamond then Heartgold back to back. I was so blown away as a child that all my favorite things where still there and even better. And the amount of content they added was baffeling. Truly one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time
You could capture Pokémon using the PokéWalker. I think some locations were unlocked via Mistery Gift or events, and some of them were available outside Japan. I remember having unlocked a location where only wild Pikachu would appear (Yellow Forest or something like that?), and you could catch some cool Pokémon depending on the location. After a certain number of steps, rarer Pokémon would appear, and in this forest you could find Pikachu that could use Fly or Surf. I remember going through my game with a surfing Pikachu, that later turned into a surfing Raichu. Good memories. :)
I got Heartgold, my first pokemon game, on my 10th birthday, which is the age kids can officially set out to be pokemon trainers in the series. The days I spent playing HG and using the pokewalker were some of my happiest. The music, the story/setting, the gameplay. . . It was incredible
I started working out because of the pokewalker, went to the gym daily and ran as much as i could. Coming to think about it, I found my 1st dog on the my way back home from the gym. Thank you pokewalker lol.
The Pokéwalker was MY JAM. I got Japanese HG and SS when they released giving me extra courses that had exclusive mons you could get waaaay earlier than the game would allow. I would take two Pokéwalkers with me while at community college and would rack up steps. After school, I’d bring one Pokéwalker with me to the skatepark. 4pm to 10pm everyday would RACK up steps. Beyond the nostalgia factor and all the awesome extras HGSS brought, the Pokéwalker was my absolute favorite aspect of the remakes.
Man, watching your video send me back to my 5th-grade days. Talk about having all the time in the world, that was me lol. I remember playing Pokemon Gold for at least a year to catch all the legendary dogs and I never get to complete my Pokedex at all.
Gen 4 as a whole never gets old but HGSS is especially amazing. Just so incredibly deep with the main story, postgame, and BATTLE FRONTIER??? They didn't even need to add that and its so cool that they did.
I remember all the good times I had with my Pokewalker as a kid. I’d spend hours and hours walking to progress with it, though that may have been why I eventually lost it. I don’t remember how it had happened, but not only did I lose the Pokewalker, I lost my dearest Pokemon, the first Pokemon caught in my copy of Soulsilver, who I put in the Pokewalker shortly before it seemingly “vanished”. I still remember that Fearow of mine to this day, and I know that I can never get him back, but I can only wonder and imagine what adventures Fearow had without me the day we unfortunately parted. The Pokewalker was a true treasure, it brought me closer to my Pokemon more than I thought it would. I’m still hurt from losing it, but I suppose it’s the one device that can never be replaced. Nor have I found it in myself willing to replace Fearow, because even if my Pokemon didn’t exist in real life, to me that Fearow was my most trusted companion.
If you still have that save file, there is a way to get your Fearow back. By holding down+X+L in the "Connect to Pokewalker" screen, it should return your Fearow. I nearly lost my Pokewalker a few months back, with my first Pokemon ever, a Meganium called FRENZY in it. The screw came undone while I was running after my dog through some long grass, leaving me with the just back panel of it clipped to my waist. Thankfully found it after about 15 minutes, but man, was I distraught. He may just be a bundle of code, but he’s my favourite Pokémon I own.
Dude PLEASE do that Pokewalker code if you still have that save!! The battery in my walker died once and I thought I lost my beloved Ho-Oh there but thank god you can retrieve the mon without it. Everything good with that stuff now
I did what you recommended I've been reunited with my Fearow! I can hardly believe I got him back, I can't express the words of how grateful I am that I've recovered my friend because of your help and kindness! I had given up hope so long ago in getting back FEAROW, my Fearow, but he's with me again now after several years of missing him! I'm so relieved to see him after all this time!😭

It's not just the perfect remake, it's the magnum opus of classic Pokemon and arguably the best Pokemon game ever made. It incorporated every popular mechanic of previous games, and future games had no real further innovation.

@19:30 EVERYONE READ THIS Where the person is standing on the map is the best place to farm legendary beast encounters. Everytime you enter a route or town, they will also move to another route. There's only so many they can spawn, since some routes don't have tall grass. The route under Ecruteak (where the twins are) and the route below (where Sudowoodo is) are pretty much the only two routes they can spawn that are touching. So just sit on the borderline between the routes, then just take a step into the next route and check your Pokegear to see if they've also spawned on that route. They likely didn't, so just take a step back onto the other route and check the Pokegear... Rinse and repeat until it spawns on your route. Good luck!
Cerulean forest actually is cool, as a kid just starting your Pokémon adventure in gen 1 it seems spooky and large but now in gen 2 you’re already the champion and experienced, it is a little wood. It’s not threatening. It’s a much preferable way to think due to hardware/space limitations at the time
Those little obscure events that gold and silver is full of are what make it the best video game of all time, to me. Heartgold and Soulsilver are, to date, the games that I've spent the most time playing. I absolutely love them.
Here's how I think the games could have been adjusted to allow all evolution methods: * Put the Mossy Rock for Leafeon in Ilex Forest or Viridian Forest * Put the Ice Rock for Glaceon in the Ice Path or the Seafoam Islands * Have the Power Plant generate the magnetic field for Magnezone and Probopass once it's restored
As someone who was introduced to Pokemon at about 4 or 5, I had the opportunity to play Pokemon Red and Blue, had absolutely NO IDEA that Yellow, GSC, RSE, and FRLG even existed until after HGSS came out. After Red and Blue, I played Pokemon Diamond (Mom and dad shared a copy of Pearl which I was later given 10+ years later), and then following Diamond I recieved Platinum and then Heartgold. I have gotten ahold of literally at least one version of each Gen of Pokemon games from DS up to Switch since age 10 and loved how much I would spend hours on it. (Hell I have Violet and Scarlet and play them not as often now but still do.) Pokemon is a childhood game to me, and my autistic hyperfixation since 4 or 5 and still strongly stands as one.
One thing I like to do with Kanto because the gym leaders and trainers are powered down, is start a new team and treat it as a bit of an after story doing that. Then come the time to face Blue / Red, you can merge the best of both teams.
That's exactly what I did. I beat the Johto Elite Four with Feraligatr, Ursaring, and Donphan (among three others,) then started a new team in Kanto and used Arcanine, Pikachu, and Gengar (among three more Kanto mons) to beat all the Kanto gym leaders. Then used the top three Johto mons and top three Kanto mons to fight Red at Mt. Silver.
@@MarvinPowell1 That's a fun way to do it and fun picks. Sometimes if any of team 1 is ever underleveled too they'll be part of the Kanto team too. Recent Crystal run for instance I didn't bring my Gengar and he fell behind everyone else.
love that you included the arceus cutscene. I loved that shit so much back then. It was absolutely mesmerizing to me at the time and I remember shutting off to a save point at least 5 times to view the cutscene again and show it to all kinds of friends xD
Johto is what I consider most nostalgic. I played them the most as a kid and remember going to the store to buy them with my parents. The remakes were amazing and super fun, crystal is probably my favorite game
I just love how personal hgss feels. Its like at every step your Pokemon feel like individuals and friends with their strengths and personalities and special things they can do.
I've been playing these games for years, but I never really bothered with the trainer house. Cool to know that there's a trainer with my namesake in there I never even knew about lmao
HGSS are packed full of content as you said, but the only games able to rival HGSS are black 2 and white 2. Those games have so many more useful and useless events that I love about them. They have the PWT, a battling facility that let's you eventually battle every single gym leader, elite four member and champion from gen 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. They have what I think is the most amount of catchable legendaries that aren't bundled toghether in some warping portal or space riding excuse, no they're actually in a cave or in a route. I love these games so much that my 2 second attention span ADHD brain was able to complete an entire living dex in them, including mythicals. It took me 3 years and I'm so proud of it. I love them so much that I even did some shiny hunts, which I still can't believe myself I did.
This was a trip down memory lane! HGSS weren’t the pinnacle of the franchise for me - maybe because I didn’t play them on original hardware - but that doesn’t diminish my love for gen 2. You did a great job of recapturing a lot of forgotten memories.
If they didn't make sapphire and Ruby that would have been a big loss. I've been playing since red and blue. The first generations had a special place in my Heart. It was a time when internet wasn't readily available and everything was just brand new and never spoiled like it is today. For me 3rd Gen was just perfect. The vivid colors. All three starters were bangers unlike any other game. I remember getting my first random shiny and not knowing what the heck was going on. It was a green golbat and I just looked at it for minutes because I didn't know what a shiny was. @@omother942 As I said, false swipe, a paralysis or sleep move, play at night (or switch your DS to night) and use a dusk ball for a greater catch chance than with even an Ultra Ball. Simply use fly to fly to the nearest town to the route, and try and find them. If after you don't get an encounter with them after 3 or 4 encounters, check the Pokegear's map to see if they've moved. If they have, simply fly nearby and repeat.
Just make sure not to use poison, as it can KO them, and they don't regen health between encounters, and they can't lose their status effects, which makes false swipe, and sleep/paralysis extremely useful against them.

@@UltraAryan10 You cannot measure quality of content of a video game.
I sincerely hope you learn how human beings work and how the world around you functions and that "not everyone has to agree with me but the awesome thing is, I don't have to agree with everyone either". because of the "time travel" trade mechanic, its possible to easily get a shiny ditto from the gen 1 games.
1 Catch the Lake of Rage Shiny Gyrados and replace all of its moves with non-damaging Gen 1 moves.
2 Trade shiny Gyrados to R/B
3 Use the Gyrados as your lead and go encounter a ditto on route to the east of Koga's Gym
4 Let the Ditto transform into the gyrados from the future and then catch it.

Where the person is standing on the map is the best place to farm legendary beast encounters. Good luck!

Those little obscure events that gold and silver is full of are what make it the best video game of all time, to me.
Heartgold and Soulsilver are, to date, the games that I've spent the most time playing. I absolutely love them.
red and blue will always be the closest to my heart but these were probably the best.
Here's how I think the games could have been adjusted to allow all evolution methods:
* Put the Mossy Rock for Leafeon in Ilex Forest or Viridian Forest
* Put the Ice Rock for Glaceon in the Ice Path or the Seafoam Islands
* Have the Power Plant generate the magnetic field for Magnezone and Probopass once it's restored
Soul Silver is still my fondest memory in a Pokemon game because it's the only time I've ever managed to catch a shiny legendary (Ho-Oh).
(Hell I have Violet and Scarlet and play them not as often now but still do.)
Pokemon is a childhood game to me, and my autistic hyperfixation since 4 or 5 and still strongly stands as one.
Ill never forget all the memories I had at 10 years old playing diamond and soulsilver.
One thing I like to do with Kanto because the gym leaders and trainers are powered down, is start a new team and treat it as a bit of an after story doing that. Then come the time to face Blue / Red, you can merge the best of both teams.
That's what I remember doing back in the day.

Super well done video. One doesn't need to know anything about these games, the build up is so good...
See videos like this just makes me incredibly sad with the current state of pokemon and how far they've fallen and how little they care now
Chasing the legendary dogs via the legit "hunt" mechanic was a great idea and it felt really good finally catching them.
The algorithm is blessing me today holy you just uploaded this too
Man said "My favorite part as a kid, Pokeathlon" and I never hit subscribe so fast
I love me some Voltorb Flip. Can’t believe we got a goated game within a goated game 🔥
Probably could have made some extra change by selling it as DSiWare at some point.
I still prefer slots but damn flip was actually fun, it got too much crap
@j_sol2550
Voltorb Flip is literally the worst minigame Pokemon has ever produced. I'm shocked anyone could write such a comment without trolling.

Damn Marvin why don't you let me enjoy my voltorb flip without all this negativity
love that you included the arceus cutscene.
These games were so good
You make such great videos!! Can't wait to hear you talk about gen 3. 😊
I still have my copy of heartgold I’m tryna sell it ion kno how much tho
Oh, no, you misunderstand. They KNOW how that pokemon got that egg, you're just 10 and they are NOT paid enough to explain that to you XD
They never mentioned shines and the red Gyarados in the lake was just always stated to be red and a experiment of team rocket.
Hg/Ss are my favourite games I'm still replaying them. Great video was really good to watch ❤
