Its like something out of Licence To Kill or any mafia film, didn't fit with the rest of how great Heat was I think, especially because removing this scene leaves it to the imagination what happened which makes it much sadder.
You got that right. I have watched thousands of action movies. the shooting scene is second to none. Even the sounds of assault rifles shooting is very realistic, this is EXACTLY how it sounds, not deep pops we are served in most action movies.
They were shooting blanks I think. I remember seeing a BTS and people were saying they could hear it from blocks away. Mann pulled some strings to get that shot. He also used the same visceral props in Collateral with Tom Cruise.
I think the only scene that could have stayed was the one between Neil and Nate. It showed that Neil had a heart and was loyal - it also showed the trust and history he had with Hate. Everybody NEEDS a Nate in their life. "Me and you go way back kiddo. I bought you the best, nothing less!"
@Tony C. Thats cool there are some deniro movies I don't like like bad grandpa, righteous kill, hide and seek, 15 minutes, showtime. His best and my favorites are Raging bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Casino, Untouchables, Cape Fear, Deer Hunter, bronx tale, This boy's life, Heat, Midnight Run, Awakenings, Jackie Brown, Copland and Ronin.
My thought was always that Trejo really couldn't shake off the cops, he ended up going home where he was ambushed, and then got tortured for the information. Which led to the cops being tipped off. In this deleted scene, Trejo actually has a chance to warn Neil. It's too out of character to not warn him. Trejo was smart enough to know Waingro was a maniac by that point. He was also aware Van Zant wanted to kill them. In my opinion, he would've told Neil right then and there, then Neil and the crew would've come over and helped kill Waingro. There's just no way Trejo wouldn't at least warn them. I know he was afraid they would harm Anna, but there was no guarantee that wouldn't happen anyway. Plus Trejo had a better shot if he had his crew with him. There was no way for Van Zant and Waingro to check if the robbery was happening before Trejo and the crew got back to the house to save Anna. So glad that was cut out. Most of these scenes are better not being in the movie. It just goes to show how spot on that editing was.
The scene cruising by the bank as the alarms click off should have been kept. Adds to the high tech professionalism of the crew. Other scenes(home life) could have been cut to make room. Just my 20/20 hindsight.
I don't think the transponder added anything important. It might've broken Mann's desired rhythm. Trejo was a good scene for a regular movie. In this one, though, I think it was better for us to imagine what happened to him. Plus, the scene shows him darting out of the room. that detracts from his gutsy character, who we later see apparently stood up under the torture and gave 'em nothing, plus had the pride to "go out" with a bullet instead of slowly or in a police hospital room. My thoughts, anyway.
KutWrite stood up under the torture and gave em nothing are you watching the same film? He gave them the time and location of the bank job before they'd laid a glove on him or Anna who he thought was safe until he came back from lying to Neil on the phone about Fed's being all over him !
@@MultiLiverpool1 The Tom Sizemore scenes add something - It shows how he is a thrillseeker who is able to compartmentalise his family life, mirroring how he later uses a girl for a human shield. If it stayed in the film, it contrasts with Hanna and McCauly - the former whose personal life is a mess which he uses work as an escape from, and the latter who has no personal life but his work. Removing this Jeremy Piven scene takes something away from the film - When you watch it, McCauly tells him to take his shirt off and Piven puts on a weird expression. It feels like something is missing, and it's this scene. I personally think it's also badass, because McCauly isn't issuing an overt threat, but stating that he's an obsessive psycho, as a matter of fact. The scene circling the bank doesn't really add anything to the story, but it rounds out Dennis Haysbert's character, Breedon, and his situational confidence as a professional getaway driver. The scene between DeNiro and Jon Voight shows that Breedon's widow will be financially supported. The scene in the car with McCauly and Eady absolutely adds something - It shows the journey of his character, as he learns to care about others on a human level. Without it, his inner 'transformation' isn't so clear.
A masterpiece! For me, Heat and Thief, both Michael Mann pictures, are the top of the line in their genre - Heat really got robbed not getting the Oscar!
I can see why all of these were cut. Heat is a masterpiece and if it had these scenes it wouldn't be. A masterpiece is when something is perfect and needs nothing either added nor taken away.
*HEAT* *IS THE MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE OF ALL TIME* *FOR ALL OF US WHO HAVE ENJOYED WATCHING THIS PICTURE, SOME OF US A DOZEN TIMES OR MORE, WE ARE PART OF A SPECIAL GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY IN THIS FILM* *HEAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOWERED WITH OSCARS AND GOLDEN GLOBES, AND THIS FILM SHOULD BE IN THE CONGRESSIONAL FILM REGISTRY FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION, AS WELL THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE*
I'm glad they removed these scenes. They're not bad but I feel each of them hurts the pacing of the movie. And the Waingro-Trejo one gives away half the plot early. Yeah, you got the sense that something was off but you didn't know for certain what Trejo did or that Waingro was the one who made him. Besides, I feel it was better as a background event than an onscreen one.
Fun fact: Heat had not one but TWO actors who played the main "Hannibal Lecter" universe villains: Francis Dolarhyde AKA "The Red Dragon" was played by Tom Noonan [Manhunter]and Jame Gumb AKA "Buffalo Bill" [Silence of the Lambs] played by Frank Theodore Levine. Two of the scariest performances in movie history.
Thanks so much for posting this. I saw Heat in the theater when it came out, still one of my favorite movies. I've never seen any of these deleted scenes. Thanks again!
Tom Sizemore's character (Michael Chirito) would've benefited from one scene giving him a bit more character development. Still, 'Heat' remains one of the best---and most underrated---films ever made. As far as the genre goes... Heat > The Departed > Casino > Goodfellas
I remember thinking Tom Sizemore had his role and character cut the most. In the theatrical cut he’s kept very enigmatic. These scenes flesh him out more but ultimately right that they kept the focus on De Niro and Kilmer. Don’t necessarily think these were all cut for time as Mann has had opportunities to put these back in and hasn’t so suspect this is more for pacing and structural reasons.
Great exposition, too bad some of these scenes didn't make it to the final cut. We learn how Trejo was forced to betray the team, and you get to know the agents a little bit more.
still dont understand.. that nazi guy and the latino one?! he goes to his home and finds them there - why?? the nazi told the cops it was going down? sorry im kind of dumbass just wnt to understand.....love the movie :)
Van Zant's mooks were tipped off, and Trejo was the weak link. They were waiting for him at his house, as well as the "nazi guy" (Waingro). Waingro didn't toot to the cops, he went straight away to the guy that was robbed in the first place (Van Zant). Dude, check the synopsis at IMDB, it sums it up nicely.
Understand why they were cut but it's nice to see how they fill in a lot of what we saw in the film... We knew what happened in the original and these play out pretty much exactly how we thought they would....thanks for the upload!!
When Michael Mann is on form he is untouchable. I love this movie - absolute classic. It's one the only two movies that ever made me want to visit LA. The other is Collateral funnily enough.
Steve He had a funny behind-the-scenes story about the fight between him and Al Pacino. Before the shoot, he told Al something like, You see this face? Don't hold back LOL
@@apurugganan Ohhh that's why Al really claws his face violently. So effective. Rollins has some very interesting stories, and his dedication to the movies he makes is a dream for most filmmakers. Eric The Pilot is a personal favorite of mine that could be turned into a feature length or 40 minute short
As much as I hate a racist, Rollings did great on Sons of Anarchy. And my favorite all Rollings is The Chase with Charlie Sheen. Great actor who has evolved and has great comedic timing.
Litteraly every scene with a human factor was cut out, and I can't believe I didn't remember having seen these and how much of an insight through both side's peronal life they offer. Many of us wish this magnificent movie never ended so a longer cut would have just been AWESOME.
This is awesome, thank you! This movie is in my top 5 favorite films, true epic. 1:15 - A scene they should have kept in. Taking of Anna, it explains in much more detail why Trejo bailed.
Still don't know how Waingro knew the bonds belonged to Van Zant or how they knew how to get to Trejo. The only explanation is that Trejo was the one who brought Waingro into the fold.
Lets start from the beginning. Remember the scene where Waingro asks for some cowboy heavy street work from a bartender. Bartender gives Waingro a number. The number belongs to Hugh Benny and Van Zantz. Waingro meets Van Zants and works for him as they both have the same enemy (Neil), and Waingro has ways to find out where Neil is. Waingro and Hugh Benny catch up with Trejo. They threaten Trejo to tell them where Neil is and what he’s up to, otherwise they’ll kill Anna. Trejo tells Waingro that Neil and the crew are about to take down a bank score. Hugh Benny who is an informant, calls the police and tells them a bank job is about to happen, masterminded by Neil. Trejo feels now that he has told Waingro about what Neil is up to, they will let Anna go, so he tries to look for her by running out of the room and then we see the muscle follow him where they almost beat him to death. Waingro and Van Zantz will be happy as they think the police will foil Neil’s score and put him in jail.
@@1975sabu Nitin so when Trejo is being followed and cant do the bank job with Neil, it is actually Hugh Benny and Van Zantz who are trailing Trejo, and not police?
For less than 10 minutes, these are all great - and, for what they add to the movie as opposed to what they add to its length, they all should have been kept in.
BarryEssex I agree to an extent. But, as an editor you have to be extremely efficient and make tough decisions. Kevin Gage's character Waingro was such a piece of sh*t in this movie lol. He really got under my skin haha. He is so talented.
no... all the intense looks made the scene look like level B acting. And then Waingro flipping the bat was just too corny for me, like a school yard bully walking down the hall. Glad they cut that out.
BarryEssex disagree. Too much tough guy stare down. Not necessary. Neil finding him near death whispering waingro made me visualize it better than the actual scene
It also gives away more than was necessary to show that Neil's whole team was going to come crashing down. Keeping the suspense on whether Trejo was still loyal to the crew or was selling them out was more effective up until the point we see him beaten on the floor and learn the truth.
Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself. I also think Trejo comes out looking better in the theatrical cut. This movie has one of the best shoot out scenes I've ever seen
That is what Larry and Emil tought in 1997
You got that right.
Thank you, you're amazing
We will NEVER see the like of this EVER again.
Thank you Mr DeNiro and Mr Pacino for giving us our teenage film Idols.
Maybe the Irishman will be the last puzzle piece.
@@JOHNSTIER23
I liked that movie, but it was nowhere near as good as Heat, Casino, Goodfellas, etc etc
@Tony C. Irishman had great acting especially Pesci but nowhere near Goodfellas, Casino, Once Upon a Time in America or Heat
@Tony C. It was dark but the acting was great
Good points all. What it would have been like if Neil and company showed up at Trejo's to "address" the Waingro problem.
The scene cruising by the bank as the alarms click off should have been kept. Adds to the high tech professionalism of the crew. Other scenes(home life) could have been cut to make room. Just my 20/20 hindsight.
Yes like maybe cut a Natalie Portman scene or two.
Jesus Deniro looking so damn goood
His Best and charismatic look is in heat and Cape fear 👍
@@KELPacino its true.
Boss 👍😎
Hit the wall already back then.
The shootout with Kilmer’s fast reloading was quicker than an Army vet using an M16! Kilmer had to practice a lot to get that good!
Ex-SAS taught him to reload like that (Andy McNab)
The transponder scene and Trejo shoudn't have been dropped.
KutWrite he's not running away out of fear of being killed, he's trying to find his wife.
KutWrite stood up under the torture and gave em nothing are you watching the same film? He gave them the time and location of the bank job before they'd laid a glove on him or Anna who he thought was safe until he came back from lying to Neil on the phone about Fed's being all over him !
Disagree, KutWrite. It showed their set up and sophistigation level they were at.
HeadShotSongs spot on it should have been kept in for that reason alone"They are technically proficient"
You can just tell some of these scenes inspired so much of The Dark Knight, especially the opening.
Your in good hands with Allstate!!- Haysbert driving
Cut him some slack, man: He went on to become President !!! (24)
Poor Danny Trejo, his character deserved more screentime
He was even an afterthought in the conversation about if they were still going to go through with the job.
25TH Anniversary coming up. Re-Release the entire movie as it was originally intended.
👍👍👍👍👍
It was released as it was originally intended.
Damn im 31 now
A few lines from the DVD got cut from the Blu Ray version though
Wow! First time I’ve ever seen this, didn’t know it existed. One of my favorite movies of all times. These scenes are excellent.
Same here man. I was shocked to see when it was uploaded vs when I saw it....
You will never see movie this good today.
Any extra glimpse into this film is a blessing
I can not believe these scenes were deleted. They're all amazing!!
Disagree....not one of these scenes add to the film
THE DECK THEY PARKED THE ELCAMINO ON IS STRONG AS HELL!!!I NEED THAT CARPENTER FOR MY BACK YARD!!!
The line “youre wrong, it’s 4 times the risk” - amazing
Hands down all time favorite.
A masterpiece! For me, Heat and Thief, both Michael Mann pictures, are the top of the line in their genre - Heat really got robbed not getting the Oscar!
This movie was great. I also liked Heist with Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito- it was more silly but I liked it.
Anyone else grateful for these cuts? Thank you Mann
agreed - we don’t need em
Why did they delete these scenes
.. they add so much depth to the movie... such an incredible film
I can see why all of these were cut. Heat is a masterpiece and if it had these scenes it wouldn't be. A masterpiece is when something is perfect and needs nothing either added nor taken away.
The atmosphere in this movie is so great... and the actors, the dialogues all brilliant.
Great movie - one of my all time faves...
Man the Trejo scene and the scene in the car prior to the robbery should have stayed in for sure. 100%
I'm double the worst trouble you ever had
That is pure De Niro
*HEAT* *IS THE MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE OF ALL TIME*
*FOR ALL OF US WHO HAVE ENJOYED WATCHING THIS PICTURE, SOME OF US A DOZEN TIMES OR MORE, WE ARE PART OF A SPECIAL GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY IN THIS FILM*
*HEAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOWERED WITH OSCARS AND GOLDEN GLOBES, AND THIS FILM SHOULD BE IN THE CONGRESSIONAL FILM REGISTRY FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION, AS WELL THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE*
We will never get a movie like this ever again
Two of the scariest performances in movie history.
oh mate youre damn good )) ... and the Hannibal LectOr was Michael Cox..
Love this movie: HEAT. Thank you for this post. The best of the best in this movie.
Thanks so much for posting this. I saw Heat in the theater when it came out, still one of my favorite movies. I've never seen any of these deleted scenes. Thanks again!
The way this movie is fragmented together, and the details therein, FUCKING BRILLIANT. Great movie...
Anna's fate is the one that spooks me the most. I don't want to think about they did to her.
They ran a train on her then Waynegrow beat her head in the sadistic bastard
Tom Sizemore's character (Michael Chirito) would've benefited from one scene giving him a bit more character development. Still, 'Heat' remains one of the best---and most underrated---films ever made.
As far as the genre goes... Heat > The Departed > Casino > Goodfellas
I can see it being a toss up between Heat/Goodfellas, but no way does Departed and Casino beat out Goodfellas.
@@goodbonezz1289 exactly 👍
Yeah but he dies using a kid as a human shield. This deleted scene would've been way out of place
Departed beating Casino or Goodfellas? Yikes
You know what, good thing they were cut. Surprising
Have the air we breath is farted by cows 🐄 I’m busting up laughing 😂😂😂😂
Thanks!
These scenes reminded me why I love this movie so much.
Plus, though good, I can think of reasons why Mann would've cut them.
I agree with these scenes not being included, but they give a lot more details. Thank you.
Understand why they were cut but it's nice to see how they fill in a lot of what we saw in the film... We knew what happened in the original and these play out pretty much exactly how we thought they would....thanks for the upload!!
cutting these scenes makes the movie even cooler, cause so much planning happens "behind the scenes" makes the gang look even more epic
I’d love to see this movie will all the cut scenes spliced all back in. One of the best films ever made!
This movie is legendary. Thank you for this video!
I love these type of movies where every character is perfectly cast in their roles (even the smaller roles) that it just makes every scene great.
that trejo scene really shouldnt have been deleted
This shit is dope! Like a look into the lives of each character
One of my all time favorite movies. My only criticism is how such a tight crew just add Waingro without knowing anything about him?
When Michael Mann is on form he is untouchable. I love this movie - absolute classic. It's one the only two movies that ever made me want to visit LA. The other is Collateral funnily enough.
It's probably difficult to shoot in LA due to NIMBYism
Have you watched Bosch?
One of the best films ever made.
The obligatory Henry Rollins appearance. Back in the 90s, it was more surprising if Henry Rollins *wasn't* cast as a tough meathead.
These were fantastic thanks for the upload. My favourite movie.
Litteraly every scene with a human factor was cut out, and I can't believe I didn't remember having seen these and how much of an insight through both side's peronal life they offer. Many of us wish this magnificent movie never ended so a longer cut would have just been AWESOME.
I feel like the scene with Trejo explains a lot
This is awesome, thank you! This movie is in my top 5 favorite films, true epic.
1:15 - A scene they should have kept in. Taking of Anna, it explains in much more detail why Trejo bailed.
Best Cop and Robber movie of all time!
Still don't know how Waingro knew the bonds belonged to Van Zant or how they knew how to get to Trejo. The only explanation is that Trejo was the one who brought Waingro into the fold.
Dan Fitzgerald i guess it’s a small circle between them, plus there was a scene at the bar where waingro was asking for work from the bartender
@@1975sabu Ok bro !
"The only explanation is that Trejo was the one who brought Waingro into the fold." EXCELLENT point!
@@1975sabu Nitin so when Trejo is being followed and cant do the bank job with Neil, it is actually Hugh Benny and Van Zantz who are trailing Trejo, and not police?
I would love a 4-hour `director`s cut` of Heat.
Michael Mann at his best classic I’ve seen this movie over 20 times
Damn! I would love to be seeing this gem for the first time again.
These scenes are better than many other entire hill movies. 🔥
For less than 10 minutes, these are all great - and, for what they add to the movie as opposed to what they add to its length, they all should have been kept in.
They should've kept the Trejo - Waingro scene in.
My thought was always that Trejo really couldn't shake off the cops, he ended up going home where he was ambushed, and then got tortured for the information. Which led to the cops being tipped off.
In this deleted scene, Trejo actually has a chance to warn Neil. It's too out of character to not warn him. Trejo was smart enough to know Waingro was a maniac by that point. this is cool to see, HUGE shoutout to the editor because these scenes were not necessary. i LOVE the movie and i actually thought it should've been shorter tbh
I have more than 7000 Movies in my collection and this is one of my best movies of all time.
I wish they kept scenes of the different characters! so it would be a piece of everyone's life! still a great film though
it distracts from the main story though, which is about Neil and Vincent.
This is the only movie that makes me feel as nervous as if I was part of the crew
thanks for this, loving the jeremy piven scene
Many of these scenes are so important I can't believe they were cut.
