I love that Danny Trejo's character in this movie is just called Trejo. Like he's just dude playing a dude while being the same dude.
He's a dude playing a dude disguised as the same dude
@@1vaultdweller beat me to it
He had to make a move.
And he got no credit in the opening scene
True talent
My uncle, Thomas Rosales Jr., plays the Hispanic driver of the money truck who reached for his gun after the deaf guard got shot. He’s done stunts in tons of movies so it’s cool to see him randomly pop up in clips. This scene is so cool
Did he ever tell you what it felt like to be shot point blank in the chest by several .223 rounds? Sounds brutal.
I know, see him all over the place in movies, usually as thugs and/or doomed guys, first place ai think I ever noticed him was in Lost World Jurassic Park. He's your uncle, huh; does he talk a lot about his work?
Sorry for your loss man.
@@mphlohi yes he does, he told me this one story about how russel crowe was messing up the stunts during this one prison fight scene (i forget the movie) and he threw my uncle really hard into the metal bars in the actual movie.
He also talked a little about The Hunter with Steve McQueen. He said that filming the final chase scene, where he drives through a parking garage into the water, he was supposed to live and have an extended scene where he gets caught. What had happened was he dove out of the car right before it drove off but the car sank to the bottom of the water instead of coming back up so they just wrote him off to die lol.
@@eclong462 oh yeah, I believe that one with Russell Crowe was from the movie LA Confidential, the fight in the prison with the cops and the crooks, Bloody Christmas.
Neil was pissed because waingro turned a simple heist into a nationwide manhunt.
"You dumb mf! This is gonna be a 2 hour movie now! I got no lye, you're digging the hole this time! I tell you what, one day a real rain's gonna come, wash these streets clean."
That's the thing. This entire story is about how one asshole in the group literally ruins it for everyone else.
The funny and sad thing is, given how smooth and professional they were as a crew, they didn't really need the extra help as a whole. They could have done it with the four of them and gotten away clean.
Ummmm... He was makin a MOVE, he HAD 2 get it on!!!!!

When I was younger always had a great sense of empathy and sympathy for the drivers being shot dead. Then Danny's reaction made me really like him because he didn't want anyone to die.
It could be that he didn't care about the human cost and only cared about the additional police resources that would be used to hunt them after it turned into a murder scene.
Yeah ~ FBI will hunt them down .

Heat's gun sound gives me anxiety. It's loud, it's discomforting, it gives audience a sense of impacts from those bullets. All guns in 2000s action movies sound like water guns pew pew compared to this.
That’s because they used actual blanks in the shooting, as opposed to stock gun sounds put in through editing. They sound so real because the sounds are real and are interacting with the surrounding area, creating echoes
"Heat's gun sound gives me anxiety."
That's a perfectly positive review, that was exactly what they were going for. You SHOULD feel anxiety in a real-life situation like these.
Comments about loud guns give me anxiety. 😂
One thing that stood out to me in this movie is how the word "slick" broke the case. If Cheritto hadn't have said "Hey slick" to Waingro, the case may not have been broken
After the first WTC bombing, the idiot terrorists came back to the rental car place and BS'd that the van had been stolen. That started the whole thing off. Life is funny that way.
You are right Gregg, that one word "Slick" got out and see how AlPacino got around it and found the crew... man the movie was awesome.. But i never liked the ending. If both Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer have gotten away and he had not turned the car back to Waingro's hotel. It would have been a great ending...
good catch slick
@@ptp79 he broke his own code
@@rasulsamad5860 and that's the irony of the movie. Chris gets out with the help of the wife who cheats on him, and Michael gets shot when he had enough money to walk away but just wanted more of the "juice".
In Waingro's defense, he had to get it on, man. He was makin' a move.
Look at me. LOOK AT ME.
NPCs arent the subject here.
In Waingro's defense, I'd say the security guard's bizarre choice to keep staring him down, even after getting pistol whipped for it, would be more than enough to set off any gun happy psychopath.
@@rickyandreou Hey slick, you see that shit coming out of his ears? He can't fucking hear you.
@@rickyandreou I don't think the guard was choosing to stare him down. I think the dude was in shock and had more of a thousand yard stare going on, than an intentional eye lock.

Neil got ice water in his veins and his crew knows the roles. Bringing in Wangrow was downfall because he was hot-headed nothing close to a professional.
Waingro was a degenerate who was toxic even for criminals: Real organized criminals do what they can to avoid attention, and killing brings a whole lot of attention.
No shit, Sherlock. We are lucky that you are here to explain these things to us.
@@azynkron Calm down internet tough guy
Waingro wasn't a hot head. He was a full blown psychopath just waiting to kill someone. It was bad judgement on Neil's end to have him join his crew. You would expect him to be a better judge of character in that line of business.
@@omnivorous65 Neil was smart but he made bad calls throughout the movie like that. Hell the last one (involving Waingro again no less) cost him his life.
Why would someone like Neil ever agree to work with someone like Waingro?
Possibly someone Nate (Jon Voight's character) knew about and put Neil on to him since he was Neil's fence. But I guess Waingro's recklessness and unprofessional way of doing the job is something that wasn't known. Neil just needed someone quick, and Nate just referred him thinking nothing would go wrong....til it did lol.
I'm guessing that kind of work is in short supply and they couldn't be picky, even though they should have.
The way I understood it was Neil outsourced a guy for his crew when he was a man short and didn't know him, and ended up with a reckless, murderous cowboy who messed it all up for him
Van Zant guy
There’s a scene w Waingro telling a bartender about his prison record and that he’s “looking for anything heavy.” Later, Waingro tells Van Zant he and Neil had taken down some major scores together, which we know is BS. I always thought Waingro talked the right BS to get Neil to take a chance on him. No pie for me, thanks.

Street shootout was awesome. I wish Hollyweird did more of that style action than bullshit bullet time backflips.
For such a tightly run operation, it is kinda weird how they didn't just off the guy the moment they were safely out of there. That is a plot hole, a big one.

You can see how much this movie influenced The Dark Knight
Dark Knight, Den of Thieves, Wrath of Man and so many more
GTA 5
They even brought in the guy who plays Van Zant for the opening heist.
More like ripped off
I like that they cut out the curse words but showing the executions of the guards is just fine…
Probably because no one actually died.
How did Neil not keep a grip on Waingro when he was about to pop him the first time? That was an extraordinary slip for him. Waingro getting away like that was pretty unbelievable
Flick’s got too many instances of lazy writing and bad execution (i recall romance subplot was a disaster). Maybe it can make some top action scene lists but as a whole eh…
@@myway7367 partly agree. The romance was a disaster b/c Deniro and Amy Brenneman (?) Had 0 chemistry and reportedly didn't get along off set. Also, Neil talks a big game but he didnt break away clean; he should've never gotten back with the her, should've been a hit and run on his end. Also, one thing people have brought up about how Waingro was chosen, he mentions to Van Zandt that him and Neil have taken down "major scores together", so either he has a penchant for talking a big game, or, Neil and him have done jobs together but nothingon a grand scale,, more like the guy they recruit as a driver; they've worked together but that's about it.
The cop turned his lights on, what would you do if you had a gun, and all your homies strapped and you holding a dude on the ground
You could say waingro was pretty slick

When well organized guys or “crews” are in need of extra manpower they go to the street. Guys that kept their mouth shut inside is a plus. But doesn’t help with weeding out serial killers. No way he uses this guy in real life not enough history with him to risk a life bid
A head shot from a FAL from this distance will explode the head.
blow the back out, not explode it though. the eyes might get a little deformed.
trust me, i've seen enough executions and head shots on gore site. ISIS has this crazy one where they show slow-mo headshots from point blank with shotguns and other weapons. its crazy. the heads deform but they don't explode.

Is there any explanation for how/ why Waingro was brought on for this job? All he seemed to do was be an extra man watching the guards. Seemed like they could have had that handled without him.
So they wouldn't be outnumbered by the guards. 4 vs. 3 becomes 3 on 3 when Shiherlis goes inside the van. I imagine at no point do they want it to be 3 on 2 in case they were dealing with cowboys.
Because he needed to get the plot movie in a certain direction
