Smaller than some Fuji cameras, fantastic autofocus and a very wide range of lenses: I really like using Fuji cameras, but the A7 CII is the first Sony that I find really attractive.
But A7Cii colors still suck. The yellowish and greenish tints in the skin, blue skies are cyan, and green grass looks poisonous. After over a decade of development Sony still can't get colors right. Actually, A7Cr looks quite noticeably better, that and A7RV are the only Sonys I would even consider.
I wish it had a better viewfinder and perhaps proper mechanical shutter. Wouldnt mind 1cm larger body. Anyway because lenses are not that small. Maybe also different kind of tilt out screen, not this vlog nonsense.

Completely agree with you on how the original looks, the texture of the hand grip, and the smaller size of it! I am troubled to get the new juts because of that.
Hey Omar, really useful video! Did you notice a difference with the 7 stop IBIS compared to 5 stops on other Sony bodies? Im interested mainly for photography
Great Review! I have the A6400 and APSC glass. I have decided on the a7cr. I can use crop mode on the r version and still use the smaller glass and gradually migeate to full frame lenses for landscapes 😊
Omar, you are the FIRST AND ONLY reviewer to complain about the grip texture change. For a person who’s just a meticulous in design as you, I too feel the exact same way about the texture change. The A7c had such a pleasant cafe racer aesthetic. While the a7cii has a better overall grip, the texture just isn’t as refined. I love holding and admiring every detail of my tech, and this one design change is constantly overlooked in other reviews. Thank you SO much for bringing that up, I felt like I was going crazy!
Great addition to Sony’s lineup, thanks Omar! AND, funny enough, I completely agree on the “dimpled leather”… I was hoping Sony was going to add that to all future models (shallow of me I know). Also, what is up with Sony’s display Rez’?! My Z6ii experience was so much more enjoyable with decent screen resolutions.
Sad that only Sony is making the camera that I, as a Fuji user (X-S20 now, AMAZING camera, specially after the last firmware update), always wanted - the A7CII and the A6700. A "rangefinder" body (attracts much less attention in the streets and when travelling), with IBIS, very good photo and video specs, good AF. Just a joystick missing. But Fuji will never make a rangefinder body with IBIS.
Great job Omar. To me it comes down to preference if what you want is the smallest full frame that Sony offers this is it. If size doesn't matter a used a7iv probably would do more for less money
Enjoyable video. I do have the A7C. The main attraction for me is the AI assisted AF currently in the A7R5. What did you think of that. Also the better EVF,though frankly I don’t find the one in the A7C so bad.
Does it start up any quicker than the A7c? Compared to the Fujis I used to own I was very surprised at how long it takes for the camera to be ready to shoot. Love that it has a front dial and the EVF is slightly improved but I’m not keen on that unmarked top dial, I like to be able to glance at it to check what it’s set at.
Just started with photography and found your channel with luck. wow! your explanation is so entertaining and unique compared other review video. Subscribed and since i am not a native english speaker, will use this chance as a English lecture :)
Omar- Always love your videos and your GREAT sense of humor. I'm looking at this Sony as my first FF digital camera body. So, the question is, will 3rd party lenses, (Sigma) work well with this camera so I don't go broke and get divorced for buying Sony glass??? If you know, I'd love to hear. You cleared up the viewfinder issue ref this camera as I won't let that be a deal breaker for me!! Thanks! Keep doing this Omar!!! You're great!
Hey Omar great review and video as per your USUAL. I had the A7C twice, sold them both, mainly because the EVF was just beyond terrible.. One thing you didn't mention? and it's one of the other reasons I sold both A7C's were sensor dust. I was SO super careful when changing lenses...and barely changed lenses, actually, but I had dust on both sensors within about a day of first using them. Maybe just bad luck. Anyways so I THINK, you did not mention the A7CII and A7CR have the sensor cover "THINGY" that flips down, which may make a big difference with sensor dust when changing lenses.. For me that plus a better EVF may be enough to maybe try my third A7C ..in the A7CII. In any case, really enjoyed your mini review and your great sense of humor!, as always! :)
Definitely not bad luck regarding sensor dust. I think a Fuji tech staff told me once the way Sony discharges the sensor when off is a bit different? I never had dust spots on my Fuji and I saw another shooter change lenses WITHOUT CAPS in his bag. Zero dust. But something about the way Sony sensors hold electrical charge even when off attracts a lot of dust. Saw it on my A7C within days of shooting. And I only switch between 2 lenses maybe 3-4 times a day at best.
Looks like, in addition to the dimpled leather, they removed NFC, as they did on A6700. Maybe they will sell NFC accessory in a dimpled leather housing😊.
Hi,thanks for the video.Although the Sony A7C2 has 33 mp,I prefer the cleaner images of the Sony A7C. Do you think the colours of the Sony A7C2 are clearly better thant the Sony A7C's,as some people say?
If you like a crappy low resolution evf that feels like it’s more than a decade old!! The back screen isn’t much better. Put in a better screen, evf and mechanical shutter and I’d consider it. Don’t mind if it’s a touch thicker to fit the shutter.
Thank you!... you are the first reviewer to mention the power button/switch. Why did Sony think it needed to be changed??? I own a 6400 and recently rented the 6700 to check it out. Same thing! They moved the switch position. Hated it and returned the camera after only 4 days with it. I turn my camera on and off a LOT while carrying it around shooting and that change bugged the crap outta me!
I’m actually glad Sony swapped the dimpled leather for the normal one because 1) I don’t find it very grippy and 2), which is a huge pet peeve of mine, small skinflakes get caught in the dimples and they’re kinda hard to get out! That REALLY bothers me even though it doesn’t really matter! :D Also I feel like the more leather-like texture fits the vintage-modern aesthetic better.
I bought the a6700 which I absolutely love but then I got the A7Cii. If I would have known I probably would have just bought the A7Cii. Because of the size I feel like it really makes the A6700 obsolete.
@ogonzilla thanks man, maybe this is something you could address in a future video because I feel alot of reviewers just brush over this,I know we should all use custom WB but sometimes we panic and flick the camera back into AWB and if this has improved it would be great to hear about and see it be talked about more from someone like you 🫶🏻🙌🏼

Great video... What about if I have an XT3, find that my phone does a pretty good job in most cases, but want a camera for portrait and telephoto (wild life)
Hi Omar, I needed this since I was considering the A7C as a travel option for street and occasional landscape/wildlife. I don't think as a stills shooter that the mark II makes sense - correct me if I'm wrong. I'm torn though because while the full frame option would be great, I don't have any Sony lenses but fully stocked on Fuji, so thinking of the X-T5 instead. (Currently own the xh2s, x-t30ii and x-e2 and wanted a little better IQ in lower light).
The XT5 will get you more resolution but no much better low light performance. Try the enhance detail LR feature or check out DXO labs if you’re unhappy with your files.
Sold my X-T4 and all Fuji stuff for the A7C and it's been pretty good. Apart from some small changes I had to live with, the A7C + 16-35mm f/4 PZ makes a great travel setup. GM quality while costing similar to a Fuji 10-24 or 16-36mm f6 equivalent and lighter too! Maybe when Fuji makes a 10-24mm f2.8 that's smaller or lighter than the Sony I might go back.
So, if you were buying just one camera in this price bracket & wanted an all rounder for photo/video, street/wildlife, vlogging, bit of talking head, would you go for the A7C ii over something like the Fuji X-H2S ?
