    Thank you for this wonderful review. I have been seriously thinking of buying an ST5. I have an ST2s. I LOVE THAT BIKE. I ride it to work everyday (34 miles). I have a Body Float, front suspension, and a rack. I have put over 10,000 miles on the bike and just flat tires and a motor cable. Stromer replaced the cable sensor, but it didn't really need it. A couple of the bulbs have burned out on the light and they said they will replace it. Nothing in life is more pleasurable than having the perfect bike. I am also thinking of buying an M1 Sporttechnik. I have owned over 15 electric bikes. . . my Stromer is definitely the best. I wish you many year of joy on your bike.

      Awesome, i drove a few ebikes and the stromer is by far the best. If you ever buy the m1 make sure to review it ;) the m1 seems amazing, but i feel like it still can't match the feel of the stromer. pedal torque sensor just gives amazing control of the bike and makes you feel like superman.

      @@digibyke5898 Yes, I did buy the M1. It is a great bike; however, I ride my St5 more. The M1 is louder than the Stromer. Not super loud. . . but detectable. The M1 is a nice bike. The customer service in the US is nonexistent. I have owned my M1 for less than one year. Although I have not had any serious problems, the distributor will not assist in any way. For example, the rubber that attaches the battery under the down tube is separating from the bike frame. . . customer service solution. . . . "we'll send you some glue in a couple of months". Also the read out on the M1 is in German. . . . The first time I turned the bike on, it was in English. But then it switches over. Customer service from the bike shop responded and said That's impossible. . . so I sent them pictures. Then they said. . . deal with it, we don't know how to fix it. I don't ride my M1 nearly as much as I ride my ST5.
      My ST5 is a daily commuter (50 miles a day). It has held up well. I did do a tubeless setup and I still got a flat. The sensors on the motor went dead on the way home a couple of days ago and I got a good workout for the last several miles (no assistance). I will try to get it to the dealer tomorrow, and see why everything went dead. It is just over a year old. Sometimes when I got on the bike, it would just "lurch" forward. Now, unfortunately, it is dead. It will be interesting to see why.
      Also the seat on the ST5 already has holes, which I feel should be covered by the warranty. . . I actually covered the seat and have a pad, so the part which shows wear has never been sat on.
      I also have an ST2s. I am riding that bike now. Flat tires are still a problem on the ST2s. Some bike shops tell me that the rims are tubeless ready. But other bike shops say they are not. The tape on the rims says they are tubeless ready. Unfortunately in CA right now bike shops are in very high demand. Sometimes you wait in line just to get in the door. If ever someone wanted to open a bike shop in the US (especially in CA. . . now is the time.
      The light on my St2s went out. I took it back to the dealer. The replacement light came, but it was wired for the ST5. The lights look the same but are wired differently. The dealer sent the ST5 light back. I have been waiting for the ST2s light for over a year. . . the dealer told me the "ticket" still shows "active".
      I spend about 4 hours a day on one of my three E-bikes. . . probably on average more, now that I am out of work. I have owned many E-bikes and am working on an article to test if an E-bike can actually replace a car over the long-term. . . So far I only use my car to take my E-bikes to the shop. On average that is once every 1000 miles.
      Is it worth it to spend 8k - 10k on an electric bike? Answer: If you plan to use the bike 80-90% over a car, yes, it is worth it. Stromer is by far the best commuter bike. I have owned or have tested almost all the high-end brands (and most "value" bikes).
      If you want to buy an E-mountain bike, look no further than the M1-Sporttechnik. This brand is head and shoulders above any and all other E-mountain bikes. Specialized, Haibike and all other brands pale in comparison. I reluctantly give them a complement and I'm sure my tone will turn if I do have any issues; but, until then, the German engineered bikes are metaphorically as efficient as the watches that also earned a "lifetime" efficiency reputation. In Europe engineering is an art form. My friend at the gym wanted to trade me his convertible Mercedes for my ST5. I briefly considered it until I saw his Mercedes was automatic. That's almost like having a Rolex clock radio.

    I have the ST1. The battery for extended life is $950. Us that's a nice bike. Mine will do about 28 miles an hour. Keep a 25 mile per hour Pace. No problem. I enjoyed for commuting. It gets me where I need to go a couple cities away. No problem. The only thing I dislike about it, it's very heavy. But that's okay slices through wind. Very easily

    I have the ST2 and it has been great. 2000 km and zero problems. i had to calibrate the sensor a few times but that is easy. When I bought the bike the dealer said he would give me a free upgrade to the new Omni when they came out. I thought it was going to be a much bigger upgrade. I tried it on the ST5 and said nah I will just keep mine. Mine fires up instantly. It only takes a second to enter the pin to unlock it and only a second to lock it. I like the brighter front light and active break lights on the St5 though. Sharp looking ride. Total blast to ride.

    • @Ropetable
      @Ropetable  5 років тому

      awsome! Yeah the new omni takes much longer to start. the upsides are 3G, which means the tracking of the bike now works really well, unlocking is the same speed and goes automatically if you approach the bike over bluetooth. While the upgrade is worth it in my opinion i wouldn't pay for it either on an st2.

      @alainpuyo4046 5 років тому

      The ST5 (version 2019) of the Omni screen is very quick as well now, changing automatically for dark mode very rapidly, and you can switch off quickly as well. The Super nova light is also changing power of the light (road mode) automatically depending on the outside luminosity.

    Do you recommend the Kinect BodyFloat for regular flat road use? Potentially I'll ride on some rocky road, but not hills, dirt and gravel like you do sometimes.
    Also: Do you think a Abus Bordo 6500 can be mounted next to your drink holder, like on the pole your seat is mounted to? It looked tight in the shop but couldn't get it to test if it would fit.

    • @Ropetable
      @Ropetable  6 років тому

      It most likely fits, my father has one of those, personally I dont use a lock at all, just the electric motor lock. but depending where you live its not advisable. I like the abus shield series of locks for example the pro shield 5850. can be mounted on the frame, no need to handle the lock. The Bodyfloat, I would totally recommend it, I did not mind at first, I mostly ride only roads, but I hate going over even the slightest obstacle on the road, just an uneven spot hurts already.

    • @rsrsrsrsrs618
      @rsrsrsrsrs618 6 років тому +1

      So the BodyFloat made it easier to go over uneven spots, right?
      And I don't have much choice on the lock, it has to be a ART2 approved slot. (Insurance...) But the Pro shield 5850 is actually a possibility as it's ART 2 approved. I'm not sure I like the look of a ring slot on a ST5 tho. It would definitely be way more convenient.

      @Ropetable  6 років тому

      @@rsrsrsrsrs618 exactly, it just absorbs bumps for your ass and back. the shield frame locks fit in quite nicely above the back wheel. on the st2 it looks very well integrated. I recommend getting the rear rack for bags or baskets anyways, and between the rack and the seatpost it fits in very well.

    Thanks! Turns out it's really hard still at this point to find reviews. One question I can't find answers to in particular is how the "second screen" works. As I understand, this is "just" a mount in the handle bar stem. What's the connector? What's included? What do I need to buy to make it work? Thank you!

    Is that a number plate on the back? It sounds like you are in Europe and like the UK there are probably laws governing the maximum speed of an ebike (it's 25km/h in UK) and maybe you have had to register it. It looks like a great bike - I thought the Riess & Muller NuVInci Delite was expensive but at £8995 GBP this is in a different league!

    Thanks so much for the review. Now it has been over a month. What are you noticing about the bike?
    You mentioned the vibration in S mode. Is that still an issue or did you figure out where it was coming from? Also, could you talk a little about the cost of ownership such as how much it is costing you to charge it? I'm also interested when you get the rack for the back how that impacts your ride. Finally, you mentioned going on a longer ride in this video. So, how long did it really give you? If you could include your weight, that would be helpful to get a sense as well.
    I really want to purchase this bike. It's just coming out now in the US.

    • @Ropetable
      @Ropetable  6 років тому +1

      hello, good questions. Overall I must say I am positively surprised. I was initially skeptical, but the bike turns out to be absolutely perfect in every way.
      The vibration I mentioned, came from the license plate. I must have mounted it wrong, it was a hassle to put it on anyways. I put a spacer in between, now the bike is dead silent. the st2 was pretty quiet, but this is literally just as silent as a normal bike if not even more. it costs me around 1.4 usd for 1000km if I use the full power mode. with power line costs, it might be closer to 2 usd for 1000km. the rack will probably feel exactly the same. the old st2 had a rack, and I barely feel a difference. the rack comes in September. I got around 1500km on record with the bike. My long ride was 70km one way with 900m incline total, and it took me 1.55 hours. the battery literally lasts for 60km as advertised on max power. (so does the old st2 after 3 years, still 60km on a full charge) I tweaked the power level 2 to support up to 48km/h (full speed) as well, but reduce the torqe on start and the agility in the app. that did not change much, but extends the range up to 90km. I weigh around 76kg. if you are heavier, that will reduce the uphill capabilities. for me it never throttles If I hold a speed between 20km/h+ uphill, which is easy.

    Hello Stromer rider
    I've got mine last August and have now over 150km with 2 long trips of 87 km and 61 km in the mountain (I am living close to Swiss / French border).
    I bought it for commuting sometimes when weather conditions are fine (one way trip to go to work ois approx. 40-45km and same distance for going back home), but also for local short distance to avoid the car, even if I am living in a region where there is no flat areas and roads, reason why e-bikes are helpful and really a pleasure to ride, faster and quicker.
    My questions:
    1) I do not understand how to activate the breaking system to slow down automatically and charge battery when going down (from top of the mountain we ride). How do you do this ? (your explanation in the video is not clear (voice) and demo not so self-explanatory.
    Do you need to activate the brake lever (the right side) ?
    2) You change your seat post and me too but for another one which I find not enough comfortable to absorb shocks from the road, even though the Pirelli tires can absorb quite a lot globally). What is the diameter of the seat post (if I need to order a new one on Amazon or elsewhere? This is not indicated on the technical guide of the Stromer). Any thoughts ?
    Thanks

    • @Ropetable
      @Ropetable  5 років тому +1

      Hi Al Py. There are several options to activate the recoup braking. If you hold down the minus (-) button for 2 seconds, you will go into recoup mode, ideal for long downhill descents. with plus and minus you can then switch between levels of braking/recharging. level 0 to 5, indicated with black arrows on the display. 0 arrows means recoup is off and no breaking, 5 arrows is the highest braking power. in the menu of the bike display or in the app you can find a setting called brake strength or something about brakes. this lets you adjust how strong the motor breaks when you pull the lever lightly. i use the max strength. holding the lever lightly equals braking level 5.

    Nice revieuw. It is a very nice, very good looking bike. For going off road it is'nt made for it. Off road you got the advantidge of the motor but the disadvantidge of the weight and lack of suspension. Up hill you win and you'll lose it all in the downhill.
    My DIY is full suspension (1/6 of the cost, ALL maintenance at home) but with 2x the power AND 2x the torque you have to let me go on any terrain of your choise with less comfort. But it isn't looking as nice, there you have won with (hundred of) miles ahead. Damned nice bike...:) Congrats

      quality control issues were frequent in 2015, but everything is under warranty, so it will get fixed anyways. the bike is good off road, but you need to add a spring loaded seatpost and a front suspension fork, then it is great for off road too. if you plan to go offroad a lot, I agree the riese and müller bikes are great, any modern e mountainbike has advantages, but to note is that all these cut off power at 25km/h, this one goes up to 48km/h. overall this is still the better bike. the haibike speed pedelec mountainbike hybrid will probably beat this in all aspects of off road.
