    Just bought the bike thanks to this review. Rode it for a day and didn't want to stop. Thanks again.

      *****
      It was priced at $6500 but I live in Colorado, which is currently incentivizing the purchase of electric vehicles by offering 20 percent off the purchase state funded. Ended up saving quite a bit and it's a marvelous bike.

    I bought mine in 2016. Engine and battery are still perfect. I did over 10.000 miles with this bike. I seldom go very fast, i prefer to bike in a comfortable way and this bike does it. Mine is black and so are my cloths, shoes and helmet. If they will ever make another Mad Max movie, i can join with this bike and i don’t have to change!

    Just rode one of these for the first time in the UK. Impressed. Very quick, feels well constructed and innovative. Braking system is off the scale for a bicycle. I agree mag wheel design would look a lot nicer and some of the stainless fittings could be better. Color choice is very limited but I should imagine the black looks the best. (I tried a white demo). £5000GBP is a lot of money but this isn't an ordinary electric bike and offers a good alternative to a small motorcycle of scooter/moped. Just wish out UK weather was better!

    I tested the ST2 and some Bosch S-Pedelecs with several transmissions (I do like the Nu Vinci Harmony). Nothing comes close to the ST2, so I ordered one today with the new bigger battery (from the ST2s) ;-)
    You're from Dallas? I'll be there next week for 2 days ;-)

    Wow I can see why it is popular the amount of settings that display panel has is amazing, you can pretty much set the bike how you want it to perform. Crazing how fast electric bikes are advancing, I cant imagine what they will be like in 10 years time.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 років тому +2

      Gardener Rob Yeah, in 10 whole years?! It seems like anything is possible... I'm guessing super light weight, extremely quiet and possibly more solar chargers built into racks, tubing or bags that can keep the bike going strong if you park at a library or something. I also think the smart phone interface is going to continue to be adopted for managing more settings. It's like with GoPro cameras now, you can connect to your phone to see video and adjust settings which keeps the camera itself lighter, less expensive and more intuitive for just shooting pictures and video.

    I've owned an ST2 for over three years. Major growing pains and failures. Most covered by warranty, but that included shop time and a lot of phone calls to corporate in CA. Not to mention a stranding miles from home and having to leave it at a bar for two days from no way to unlock "theft mode" locally from the OMNI display. Walked home that night. This bike still has lots and lots of room for improvement. I'm not happy with it for the $7000 paid. Ask me questions. I'm an expert on the menus and failure codes. I've had the displeasure of learning almost all of them.

    I am looking at the hpc full suspension bike with 4000 watts, I saw in you're other channel you went and got a tour at hpc. :) so do you recommend hpc bikes or should I get something else?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 років тому

      Kandykiller maniac Hi-Power Cycles makes awesome stuff and has decent prices but the bikes aren't as sleek and stylized as the Stromer ST2 (or other purpose-manufactured ebikes). Their new full suspension off-road bike is almost like a motocross design vs. a bicycle like this. I think it really depends on what you intend to do with it. If you got a Stromer ST2 you'd blend in as a bicycle but the HPC Revolution would stand out and you might get a ticket if you used it beyond legal limits. Also, that bike is much heavier and probably not as fun to pedal... But! If you live near a forest and ride on dirt roads a lot or like to jump then the Revolution could be perfect :)

    • @boyas9864
      @boyas9864 9 років тому +1

      Yeah I ride in the woods every day, do jumps, and ride on trails! I definitely am probably going with the hpc

      Kandykiller maniac I really like the full suspension Haibikes, got the FSRX 27.5" last year and have taken on some pretty rough trails with no issues. It's more "bicycle like" than the Stealth Bomber or the HPC Revolution and the Bosch system has worked pretty well: electricbikereview.com/haibike/xduro-fs-rx-27-5/

    What happens if you hold down regen when the battery is full or near full? It's going to covert all that energy into heat inside that battery and there is no way to limit the current because of the permanent magnets. Regeneration is GREAT when the battery is below 60% SOC, but battery charging gets exponentially worst as the SOC rises and by 95% it is converting most power to heat (you will feel it particularly on a fast charger. Slow charging still generates heat, but it does it so slow the battery can dissipate the heat before it warms the battery). Speaking of which, this battery should not be charged inside that enclosure, particularly because it's a fast charger.

    Is it easy to reach 40 km/h (25 mp/h) or do you really need to push the pedals real hard and use the highest amount of support the motor can deliver?
    Are you sweating not at all, or a lot less than with a normal bike at let's say 25 km/h (15 mp/h)?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 років тому +1

      Artur Ragulskyi I think in the US they rate the maximum at 750 watt nominal... Not sure on the details of the law or this motor, great question, I'll see what else I can find out about it :)

    • @TheDougInc

      Artur Ragulskyi DC current motors can draw more amps for a moment when starting and that provides higher watts(amp X voltage=watts) . That is the peak draw, but the continual draw is counted in the law.

    ALL electric motors use magnets to drive them, some use electromagnets and some use permanent magnets, but they ALL work by electromagnetic repulsion. The downside of permanent magnets is drag and despite what people think, you can do regeneration with electromagnets which is exactly how your car's alternator works. There are no permanent magnets in an alternator.

    My used Stromer (by Thomus) has a 138mm Bottom bracket spindle which puts the crankset so far from the seat tube no front derailleur ever made could shift the chain to the larger/largest sprockets! Mine arrived missing a front derailleur and having realized this flaw in design, I'm alone trying to work it out. Neither Stromer nor Thomus has responded to my inquiries about this issue. Little wonder: I'd be ashamed too. I will say a great job was done with the frame and electricals and the ride and motor responsiveness is most pleasing. Unfortunately Stromer seems dedicated to producing more and more expensive and electrically sophisticated bikes to appeal to some kind of "elite" demographic I guess.

      @ElectricBikeReview  9 років тому +1

      Artur Ragulskyi Haha, yeah... you pay a pretty penny but the large motor, extra large battery and premium design is definitely impressive. For people who ride in the city, suspension might not be a huge deal. The ST1 was available with rigid or suspension and I'm sure they measured how many of each sold and it must have been more popular with rigid (or just kept the price point down?) I like the suspension option on the Specialized Turbo X because it doesn't add weight and includes a lockout so you basically get the best of both worlds: electricbikereview.com/specialized/turbo-x/ it's a similar design and performance in my mind... perhaps a bit slower and weaker than the ST2.

    I can't wait for these to get... MUCH cheaper. These e-bikes cost a pretty penny compared to what you can get out of a motorcycle or scooter for the same price (... or much cheaper) :/ I mean, sure you don't need insurance or a license for these but still, they are too expensive. They need to get 30mph e-bikes down to around $800-$1,200... and the batteries to around half the price that they currently are.

    I have a Stromer st1 - rode it for two summers, at 1200 miles the motor burnt up (or motor controller - its all located in the wheel unit). I was 1 month out of warranty... after repeated attempts to contact Stromer, finally got ahold of the warranty dept. They just sort of laughed and said - "yeah, sorry man nothing we can do for you." So I bought a $4000 bicycle that needs an $1100 part after 1200 miles... these bikes are gimmicky, unreliable and Stromer service is absolutely horrible to work with. Go with Yamaha or Bosch - Stromer won't be around long. Oh - and the shop I took it two had two st1's on the floor (poor people trying to get rid of them on consignment).

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  9 років тому +1

      +salvatore zambito This is just my opinion but gas powered bicycles, motorcycles etc. are loud and smell terrible. In America they don't have to meet the same emission standards as cars in some cases and therefor the performance is more basic. Even though ebikes tend to be more expensive, they have lower operating or variable costs to fuel, don't brake down as frequently and are much quieter. Quebec is such a beautiful place, I went for the first time last year! I think more noisy traffic would detract from that experience and I know there are affordable ebikes out there if cost is an issue for you, here's a list I made of ones I've tested: electricbikereview.com/tag/affordable/

    What a rip off. Save yourself thousands and build one yourself. Also 7k and it's only got SLX and XT. For that much it should be full XTR drivetrain and brakes. Why would anybody buy this
