I had a Kinect seat post on my Creo road bike. I decided to try this after suffering from back aches. Well, after around 6 months with the Kinect seat post, I stopped suffering from back pain from each ride. One day, I got confident that my back ache was gone and to save weight I decided to remove the kinetic seat post and place the original seat post! Wow, I couldn’t believe the difference! The ride was so horrible lol! I’m very convinced user of these seat posts that it works! I reinstalled Kinect and I’m back to comfy rides again! In short, once you ride with a suspension seat post it is difficult to go back riding with no suspension at all. Now I'm 54 years old with a bad back.
I haven't used the Kinekt, but have used the Suntour. Many people are not aware there are different springs to put inside the Suntour in place of the standard that comes with it. One if you find the standard too stiff and one if you are a heavier rider (which I am). Once I put the proper spring in, the Suntour on my Aventon Adventure 2 was like riding on a cloud.
@@arthurriordan5760 I can understand that. However, there are other springs both softer and stiffer, so you can dial it in better. There are, to my knowledge, 3 different color coded springs (red, black, blue).
I have it long term and although it work it adds a lot of squeaking to the bike. Actually my bike is perfectly quiet the only thing that makes noise is this Suntour device

I have the Kinekt on my Specialized bike. I ride pavement and gravel (maybe 60% on pavement, 40% gravel), and have done a lot of long rides including a century. I wanted a suspension because I’m 72 years old, and wanted to avoid abusing my worn out old body parts. The Kinekt works great. (I dialed it in fairly tight, so that it’s there for me when I hit the big stuff. I didn’t want it too squishy and bouncy.) After the century ride I felt like I could have even gone further. I should add that the Specialized Cirrus X model has “Future Shock” front suspension in the stem. I can’t speak for the Suntour or Redshift, but I am really pleased with the Kinekt.
A century! Nice! My longest ride was a 75 mile Fondo. And I sure would have liked this Kinekt on that ride. There is a century in the Ventura area called the Cool Breeze my father in law did once, and I have had my eye on it since. Maybe I’ll pop this Kinekt on my roadie and give it a go.
Nice , detailed review.... I agree that the Kinekt is superior... but it can break. I own a 2018 model with some plastic bits in / under the springs. One failed 100% during a bikepacking trip in eastern Peru at the worst moment in November of 2023. Zip ties saved the day and turned my floating post back into a ridged post, no more problems, but still... Good news is they sell a full set of replacement parts and i was easily able to repair the seat post (when I got back to the US). I think the good news is they support older models and I'm still riding the same one years later. All that said, yes, they make the best seat post.

I tried the redshift handlebar stem and kinekt stem and for sure the kinekt won hands down. Although heavier it provided a better feel. Plus I added the optional elastomer inside the spring so it never bottoms out under heavy pothole hits.
Fantastic review! 👍👍However, In my opinion, paying close to $300 for a seat post, when you might be wanting to get other accessories as well, is just out of the question. The Suntour seems to be the choice for me, based on your complete review.
Have the Suntour for a yr now and it works great. No need to spend any more on one. I weigh 220 and it handles my weight with no problem. I do have the heavier spring but don’t really need it, but use it anyways with a lighter setting since I bought it when I ordered the seat post.
I just ordered mine with the heavier spring also. And I weigh around about what you weigh at 225. So good to know that that heavy spring actually works but is not really needed. I have the Suffort suspension seatpost on now which is really good but I wanted to get the Suntour as it has a heavier spring and 400mm option.

pro tip for the Suntour: Turn the upper part by 180 degrees, then the mounting is directly above the seat tube and no longer offset to the rear. The seat does not spring back so far. I've been riding mine like this for many years. You can simply push out the pins by removing the grub screws. Takes less than 5 minutes
I'm intrigued by this pro tip. You don't mean simply rotate the post, but somehow disassemble and reassemble the upper mechanism. Any further details would be appreciated. I am very limited in options for closing up the cockpit for a more upright posture. thanks

I've had 12 fractures along my vertebrae due to cancer, it appears the suntour will do the job. I'd like the $270.00 one which has great features, I just think it's too much for my budget. I started out with Suntour on our 2 two his/her Radrover 4" fat tire hardtail ebikes. The extra height of the Suntour suspension mechanism make it harder to adjust the seat low enough for my shorter wife to be comfortable. Upgraded her to the Kinekt body float and it sits much lower on the seat post and has more of an isolated "float" for very comfortable ride on more surface types. Ended up upgrading to Kinekt for my ebike a few months later. Both Suntour/Kinekt are almost even for large bumps and uneven undulating dirt trails. I found the Kinekt comes out ahead with washboard road, broken pavement, uneven side walk cracks, etc... that causes that annoying "chatter". It made for a more comfortable and less fatiguing ride because we could remain seated for 85-95% for bumps/uneven surfaces compared to always have to lift off my seat constantly without Kinekt.
Great if you have the money, and I do, but I'm not paying triple for a negligible improvement. I'm a casual rider, not a hardcore diehard. The Suntour will be fine for me.
I've been riding the Suntour for over a year now and I think it's great, such a comfortable ride. And I bought it for the bargain price of £58. I wish they'd make a suspension stem too
I have the Cane Creek eeSilk Plus (35mm) ($220) (owned almost 3yrs) I have the TransX Antishock QL (25mm) ($110) (owned just over 2yrs) I have the Cane Creek G4 Thudbuster ST (50mm) ($200) (owned just over 2yrs) I would say that aside from the Redshift, all three of these blow away the Kinekt and Suntour. I don't actually like the Redshift because the adjustment is internal and its ad ridiculous process to set it up. The eeSilk Plus is premium. For a gravel bike, extremely good! The only issue is that 1) its expensive and 2) only comes with one elastomer. Seperate ones can be bought from Cane Creek. I chose to drill a hole through the center to soften it up, your mileage may vary depending on your weight. Aside from that, it's really a very very well made suspension post. Just be careful of the bolt that holds it together for the elastomer 'cage', the bolt can work itself out. Loc-tite is your friend! The TransX is actually very very good! Comes with 3 elastomers, very easy to setup and dial in, and functions very well! I have no complaints, and highly recommend (you can buy it on JensonUSA). The Cane Creek G4 is the newest of the Thudbusters. I don't recommend this for gravel bikes, but its really good for MTBs. It comes with 3 elastomers to dial in for your weight and works great, but it is far more active than the other two as it has 50mm of suspension. As far as the title, "Best on the market"....none in the video are IMO. If you're looking for the best performance, the Cane Creek eeSilk can win by both comfort and weight. If you want the best performance on a budget, the TransX Antishock QL has no competition. It's simple the best post for the money in my honest opinion.
Hey, thanks for the reply, and great info on all of these other posts. I looked into these before making this video, but they didn’t compare in reviews. When I picked the posts for my video I combed through hundreds of seat posts and picked 4 of the highest rated posts on Amazon. That is where I got the best on the market idea from. The Suntour has 81 percent of their reviews 5 stars. The Kinect is 82 percent and the Redshift has 89 percent 5 star reviews. The cane creeks were all poorly reviewed on Amazon. If I remember right, they were somewhere around 60 to 70 percent 5 star reviews. I’m not saying they are bad, but they just weren’t rated high enough when I was shopping. I plan on putting the Kinect, my favorite, against other posts in future videos, maybe I’ll use some of your recommendations. Thanks again! Great info!

The Cane Creeks are on Amazon, at least they were when I was shopping or I’m not understanding which cane creek posts you are mentioning. The cane Creeks are what I was referring to. The anti shock isn’t on Amazon, at least I didn’t see it when I was looking.
I think Cane Creek products only recently become available on Amazon? Anyway, I only see a few reviews, but most look very positive (on US and Canadian Amazon anyway). I bought an eeSILK Plus Carbon Seatpost for my gravel bike directly from Cane Creek. At any rate, I agree with Josh -- the eeSILK is awesome. Even on paved roads, there are lots of potholes and cracks (it's Canada after all), so the suspension has been excellent at reducing fatigue on the body. Now I am wanting suspension for my stem too lol.
@@VoltVlog I'm sorry man, but if you don't know the seat posts from Cane Creek...they were literally the first name in the game when it came to performance suspension seatposts, and you didn't bother to visit their website prior to this response or prior to making the video saying you don't know which seat post I am talking about. I literally provided the exact make and model, price and length of travel. There are a plethora of other content creators that have legitimately tested these product, well I don't know what to say other than you're inexperienced in this area..and likely in many others. Visiting manufacture sites, especially 'major players in the game' should be automatic. I wish you the best in your goals, but this is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, because you really don't know.
I own a Red Shift and love it. It is the only one I've ever used but I don't recall the seat being all that difficult to set up and adjust. I weigh 200lbs +/- 10lbs. I run the second internal spring and think it is just about perfect. Settles in about 1/2 inch of sag, plenty of travel. I have not tried the others. Might try the 90$ suntour just to see. AA2
That’s good to know, I was thinking it might have been my weight that was throwing the ride off, but we sound about the same. I bounce between 190-200lbs.
@@VoltVlog you can't just compare bodyweight and think it should perform similar. From what I understand redshift is primarily targeted for gravel and road bikes. On those bikes you have have usually a weight distribution of about 40 /60 for front vs back wheel depending going more towards 50/50 if you riding in a very steep aero position. By the looks of your super wide grandma saddle and the angle of your arm while riding it seems you riding very upright which means a which distribution of 10/90 which actually means just based on your weight a differents of about 60lbs on the back side of the bike compared to a road/gravel bike position. I actually don't know how the other both are targeted but the first impression seems like you compare a 28mm pirello p zero race tire to a 45mm mtb tire and saying the 28mm feels squishy on downhill gravel single trails. And without any intention of being offensive please invest in some proper tools. A set of good quality alen keys is the minimum a grown up above the age of 25 years should have. Trust me working on your bike or anything else gets way easier if you have proper tools instead of multitools or some cheap aliexpress stuff. Multitools like you used are basically emergency tools, they are not designed to be good they are designed to be helpful in a situation where you don't have access to proper tools.

I recently installed a 40 dollar one from Amazon. It did nothing and the instructions were crap. You’ve inspired me to tinker with it and get some sort of cushioning.
I originally had intended to include a $30 zoom in this video as well, but it never worked. Not even a bit. The suspension didn’t hold a load, and the tension ring and screws were machined wrong. So I sent it right back to Amazon and settled on the 3 posts for the review.
@@MarkSmith-js2pu I had a working cheapo one for about two years but it wore out. It wasn't very good, but with a road bike and massive potholes, you could definitely tell that it helped. It broke. I bought the sun-tour and yeah I kept having to check whether I had a flat tire because the ride was so smooth
Yup, I had an old pogo-stick type post on my road bike for a while. Which for sure was better than the post that came on it. Which is why I originally was going to include one in this review. But, I know exactly what you mean…the first few times with the Kinekt/Suntour I kept checking my tires because it felt so soft and smooth.
Got a By.Schultz G2 parallelogram 50mm travel. The colour by weight springs are so easy to install/replace and the entire unit is built like a tank. Best aftermarket kit I bought besides a well fitted comfortable saddle.
I have the Kinekt suspension seat post and stem and they are brilliant and so easy to set up for your weight and riding preferences. They are expensive but if you have the money they are worth the extra cost.
Very useful video thanks a lot for that. Just one thing though. At the end of this video you talk about the biker's weight when using the Suntour seatpost. Let's not forget that for just a few extra bucks you can buy the red spring that is made for heavier people than the stock blue one, in other words the one that's included by default!
@@VoltVlog I just checked on their website and come to think of it I think you're right. The stock black standard one is for people who weigh between 140lbs and 195lbs, but you can buy the blue one if your weight is under 140lbs or the red one if your weight is higher than 195lbs.
Using proper tools might have made a difference with the Redshift. I'm always surprised when people work on their bikes with multi-tools. They are always klunky and difficult to use. I even carry a small set of hex keys on my touring bike after being frustrated trying to work on the bike with klunky multi-tools. I only really use them for emergency tools on my day rides. I have the Redshift and had no problems setting it up.
I hear you on right tools for the job, but, I will say the other 3 posts I used during this video: the original post, suntour, and kinekt all worked flawlessly with the multitool. Which, I think does say something toward the redshift being less convenient to use. And in some way speaks toward the effectiveness of a multitool. But for sure, it's not the perfect tool for any job really, unless, I'm stuck out on a trail somwhere then I'm making it the perfect tool for the job. :-) Happy riding!!
I was about to write exactly the same thing. I have tried several multitools, but none were easy to use and the weight isn't significantly less than the kit I've put together.
You used a different multi-tool to adjust the other seat post (a green slender one) compared to the fat silver one on the redshift, then you complain its harder to mount the redshift...kinda moronic on your part, which tells me your whole review is biased based on that observation alone. Plus you don't even put a link for the redshift seat post, hmm, guess they would'nt send you a check. @@VoltVlog
I use both the Suntour and Redshift regularly, and my experience is somewhat, but not completely different. My Suntour is on a fat-tire hub-motor e-bike similar to the one you're riding in the video, and I like the plushness as my commuter/grocery-getter, and butt more planted in the seat. I've also tried the Suntour on my Cube Reation EXC (Bosch mid-drive) and much prefer the Redshift. The Suntour was too bobby partly because it IS designed with more travel. It wasn't terrible, but less 'bike like' for sure. On a regular bike, or mid-drive e-bike, I find the lesser overall play in the Redshift to be a benefit, as it's closer to feeling like it doesn't exist, except when you hit those bumps. That being said, for more grarly terrain, its probably smarter not to be sitting on your seat at all, and using your slightly bent knees as suspension, but I think that's the old school mountain biker in me. :)

Purchased a cheapo unit from Amazon for $29 and love it. Nobody ever reviews the “other” options. I could have purchased 9 of them for the price of the connect unit here.
I also have cheap suspension seatpost. It works OK only at exactly one point of sitting. If I move slightly front or rear - the absorption is not effective anymore... With redshift I don't have this problem
Finally! A head-to-head comparison. Great review and very helpful. For 90 bucks I'll stick with the Suntour. $270 for a seat post, for my use, is over the top expensive even though I can afford it. Its just a question of "where is your money best spent"? And no, $270 for a suspension seat post is not money well spent since I do little to no off road biking. Thanks for the review!
I have a suntour on each of my MTBs. For the benefit they give plus the price point and ease of set up/adjustment/maintenance and reliability...unbeatable. My opinion as a 20 mile per day commuter.
2 important categories you might of itemized:: comfort on minor road chatter at high psi tires, and avoiding strong rebound that can lift you off seat (dangerously). You did mention kinekt stayed "very connected" on this last item. I did not notice you say the same for the suntour. Thanks for great review though.
Thanks, definitely something to consider for future seat post reviews. And the Suntour was really good at keeping me connected also. The key difference for me between the Kinekt and Suntour was that the Kinekt once dialed in allowed me to sink into the ride much more, with plenty of room to travel up and down. Which kept me from bouncing off and from bottoming out. The Suntour for me was less responsive to adjustments and I felt like I couldn’t quite sink in without it becoming too “soft” to really have the same level of ride. But if I had never used the Kinekt, I would have been blown away!! And honestly still am!
Suntour NCX, the best bang for the buck, easy pre-load adjustments for less than half the cost, excellent quality. The neoprene velcro cover was a nice touch.
I went with Redshift. Reviews pitched the seatpost more so than the stem. I got the seatpost and later got the stem. I'm a casual, low mileage, tooling around type hybrid rider. I really notice the seatpost. The stem is more subtle and I could live without it. Although I'm happy I have it. I believe the two work well together. I purchased Redshift arc light pedals and tail light. An investment but worth it in my opinion. I'm thinking most suspension seat posts should function well overall. Makes for a more comfortable ride. I also have a Brooks B17 saddle. I really like cycling and these upgrades make the overall experience better.
I just bought the Kinekt and must agree with “Joe” here, it’s the best, it’s my third seat post suspension, and by far the most effective at what a suspension is intended for, canceling the imperfections of the ride/road
Personally I went with an e-bike with a *full air suspension PLUS a Suntour,* and my back is very happy. Now I'm looking for a better air fork from my spring POS .. so my arms and hands are happy. Also once you have any of these dialed-n and attached to your seat your (#1) isn't really an issue.
I used Suntour seatpost and it worked OK, although it kicked a bit sometimes since it has no damping. Reason I stopped using it was the saddle clamp. Tilt setting has too big steps, in one setting I slided forward and in next front was too high and caused me pain in crotch. Now I have Thudbuster which has smooth tilt setting without any steps.
Great Review! How much extra post length do I need to accommodate the KINEKT or Suntour Bike Suspension Seat post? I’m concerned that after installing a Suspension Post, I will have raised the seat too high to be able to mount it easily. Thanks

I like the Redshift saddle position system was for me by far the easiest to dial in the seat angle. I absolutely hate the Suntour seat angle setup, could never get the exact saddle angle I wanted. As far as suspension goes for me the Suntour worked the best. I have not tried the Kinekt yet.
I have the Kinekt one and have their cover to keep the dust and dirt out, and also got the seat post lock so someone can't just walk off with it their seat. I have about 8000 miles on it, and it is still doing good. What I also like is you can rebuild it, and get any part if one break, I have not had to rebuild my yet, I think that cover helps a lot! Plus, I like the weight limit being 330lbs so you know it is heavy duty and the different spring selections for your weight. I have it on my Himiway Zebra Ebike!
I have ridden Suntour for 5 years now, and wanted better and bought Kinect. The main downside of Suntour was that you need to service it every two years, or else the spring piston gets stuck. In kinect there is practically no possibility for friction. If you have the money, I also recommend Kinect over Suntour, because then you would not need to make the upgrade later when you get tired it being stuck. Though Suntour is not bad at all when it is serviced.
Yes, thank you, I didn't mention that in the video. They have two other springs that I'm aware of for riders over 195lbs or under 140lbs. I come in between 190-195 lbs any given day which puts me at the highest weight the standard spring supports. Since I was right at the higher weight level, I thought when I first ordered the post I'd likely need to purchase the red spring for it to work for me (the red spring is for riders over 195 lbs). Thankfully, the standard settup on the Suntour worked perfectly for me at ~ 195lbs. Thanks for posting this comment!
Yeah, if you’re at the lower end of the recommended weight range, you may find the softer spring more comfortable. I’ve got two of them, one with the default middleweight spring, the other with the red stiffer spring. The red spring definitely feels a bit harsher and the black spring never bottoms out, even for my 220lb bulk.
Nice video! Regarding the Redshift did you play with the preload? I find that it works great when it sinks down a little when sitting on it. Will have to try the Kinekt for my e-bike. e-bikes are heavy and stiff so the impacts are so much harder. It's weird because they feel smooth on the road, but the back and hands don't lie.
In my case the Suntour was problematic for seat angle adjustment, since it has notched detents which hold the seat at specific angles. But there are ways around it (in my case gasket material was used as a spacer) so not a deal breaker. This is my first suspension seatpost and the ride quality is a night and day difference. It smooths everything right out and makes the bike more controllable due to less disturbances when going over unexpected bumps.
First of all: Thank you for this informative video. I'm on my second Suntour, because it is indeed very comfortable given the price. It has only one (major, imho) flaw, which you'll only find out about after a year (or two, depending on your frequency of use): The joints are pin and collar (kind of like a watch bracelet): After only a year in my case, the pins started to come undone, meaning they start to come out of the collar from the side. This could lead to very dangerous situations. You can simply press them back in, but you have to be mindful about it or it will end badly. The play on the joints also increases significantly over (relatively short) time. I can get a little cheap on myself sometimes that's why I went Suntour. Do you have you any view on the durability of the Kinekt (yet)? Thanks again!
Awesome! It's a great trail! I used to do that same ride when I was a die-hard roadie. Racked up about 10k miles a year doing that stretch a few times a week, then I switched to eBikes a couple years ago for daily commutes and fell in love. I'm not on the trail as much anymore as my little family and I are trying to travel more (RV Life) and soon will only be in Bakersfield seasonally.
Why use different tools for tightening the bolts? Larger one for redshift, smaller (yellow) for kinetic. And why use a multitool at home anyway? It seems to me that the redshift is ment for road race bikes, and the others for ‘normal’ roadbikes. The connection part is more to have the ability to place the saddle exactly as a rider wants, on what ever bike. Some want it tilted forward a bit, which seems not possible with the other suspensions. Thx for the video!
While I think I understand what you were trying to communicate, the phrase "sink INTO the bumps" does not convery what I suspect you were trying to convey...if i got your intended meaning -that you were not being bounced off the seat, thats a reasonable parameter to try and quantify. I agree that Redshift's 2 bolt tilt control is labor intensive, but I like their seatpost very much. It doesn't feel like you are falling backward off the seatpost as with Suntour, and its a slim, lightweight package. My favorite isnt represented here - sold on Amazon by "Bibike" its branded "Safort" -its most similar to the Suntour NCX, and is in that price range. Having tried ALL of these, I am almost certainly going back to the Safort, if I change out again. Thanks for your testing.
I did have them on the initial list, but made the decision based on overall reviews on Amazon for the final posts I used in this video. Cane Creeks didn’t have enough reviews on Amazon at the time I made the video. However, I plan on making more of these reviews with other posts. I’ll almost certainly include a thudbuster in that review. I know they perform really well, and have a long track record in this space.
The sad thing about the suntour for me, it seems is that it has a wide variation when it comes to weight of the rider. They have different springs, but you have to go through the rigamaroll of finding a place which sells them and has them in stock... Suntour need to start shipping all 3 coil options with the product instead of penalizing those who are either too light, or too heavy for the standard spring. That, or they need to start shipping different SKUs so you can buy the seatpost with the right spring from the get go. I've ordered the suntour just because it seems to have the win when it comes to price to performance. Having to wait for the hard spring is going to be tough though.
I like the Kinect less, since of the color dismatches, grey spring,...black post, it's a detailing I don't get nor like. I stick with and love my SR Suntour NCX. It is the best suspension post I ever used. And I used more brands than showing. Also candle versions and what nots. The SR Suntour stand above them all. It is to me the perfect susp. post. Also as for pricing. It just needs, like all of them, some love, it needs to be kept clean from time to time, and it needs grease is all. And than it functions like an angel to one's bottom, back and all over health, let stand that it keeps one from being worn down by pain and fatigue, and against soreness. Simply so far, the best seat post ever.

The ride was so horrible lol! I’m very convinced user of these seat posts that it works! I reinstalled Kinect and I’m back to comfy rides again! In short, once you ride with a suspension seat post it is difficult to go back riding with no suspension at all. Now I'm 54 years old with a bad back.
lets say it like this: were over 50 now so its a deserved suspension seat time😎
I went with Redshift and could not be happier. I did not find installation to be at all difficult. Great for the road riding i am doing.

Suntour seat post redshift stem perfect on my bike.
I haven't used the Kinekt, but have used the Suntour.
Many people are not aware there are different springs to put inside the Suntour in place of the standard that comes with it. One if you find the standard too stiff and one if you are a heavier rider (which I am). Once I put the proper spring in, the Suntour on my Aventon Adventure 2 was like riding on a cloud.
It is really comfortable! I was impressed with it for sure!

I have the Kinekt on my Specialized bike. I ride pavement and gravel (maybe 60% on pavement, 40% gravel), and have done a lot of long rides including a century. I wanted a suspension because I’m 72 years old, and wanted to avoid abusing my worn out old body parts. The Kinekt works great. (I dialed it in fairly tight, so that it’s there for me when I hit the big stuff. I didn’t want it too squishy and bouncy.) After the century ride I felt like I could have even gone further. I should add that the Specialized Cirrus X model has “Future Shock” front suspension in the stem. I can’t speak for the Suntour or Redshift, but I am really pleased with the Kinekt.
A century! Nice! My longest ride was a 75 mile Fondo. And I sure would have liked this Kinekt on that ride. There is a century in the Ventura area called the Cool Breeze my father in law did once, and I have had my eye on it since. Maybe I’ll pop this Kinekt on my roadie and give it a go.

I fitted a Redshift seat post and I am 100% happy with it.
The ability to adjust the tension on the Kinekt without removing the seatpost swings it for me.
Just a bit more saving up to do!
I initially didn’t think it would be a big deal for me, but I’ve grown to really love the adjustment placement. I think it is worth saving up for.
Nice , detailed review.... I agree that the Kinekt is superior... but it can break. I own a 2018 model with some plastic bits in / under the springs. One failed 100% during a bikepacking trip in eastern Peru at the worst moment in November of 2023. Zip ties saved the day and turned my floating post back into a ridged post, no more problems, but still... Good news is they sell a full set of replacement parts and i was easily able to repair the seat post (when I got back to the US). I think the good news is they support older models and I'm still riding the same one years later. All that said, yes, they make the best seat post.
We are not even a single year later, let alone multiple years later. Glad it still works months after the repair.

I tried the redshift handlebar stem and kinekt stem and for sure the kinekt won hands down.
Although heavier it provided a better feel.
Plus I added the optional elastomer inside the spring so it never bottoms out under heavy pothole hits.
Fantastic review! 👍👍However, In my opinion, paying close to $300 for a seat post, when you might be wanting to get other accessories as well, is just out of the question. The Suntour seems to be the choice for me, based on your complete review.
Have the Suntour for a yr now and it works great. No need to spend any more on one. I weigh 220 and it handles my weight with no problem. I do have the heavier spring but don’t really need it, but use it anyways with a lighter setting since I bought it when I ordered the seat post.
I just ordered mine with the heavier spring also. And I weigh around about what you weigh at 225. So good to know that that heavy spring actually works but is not really needed. I have the Suffort suspension seatpost on now which is really good but I wanted to get the Suntour as it has a heavier spring and 400mm option.

pro tip for the Suntour: Turn the upper part by 180 degrees, then the mounting is directly above the seat tube and no longer offset to the rear. The seat does not spring back so far. I've been riding mine like this for many years. You can simply push out the pins by removing the grub screws. Takes less than 5 minutes
I'm intrigued by this pro tip. You don't mean simply rotate the post, but somehow disassemble and reassemble the upper mechanism. Any further details would be appreciated. I am very limited in options for closing up the cockpit for a more upright posture. thanks

I started out with Suntour on our 2 two his/her Radrover 4" fat tire hardtail ebikes. The extra height of the Suntour suspension mechanism make it harder to adjust the seat low enough for my shorter wife to be comfortable. Upgraded her to the Kinekt body float and it sits much lower on the seat post and has more of an isolated "float" for very comfortable ride on more surface types. Ended up upgrading to Kinekt for my ebike a few months later.
Both Suntour/Kinekt are almost even for large bumps and uneven undulating dirt trails. I found the Kinekt comes out ahead with washboard road, broken pavement, uneven side walk cracks, etc... that causes that annoying "chatter". It made for a more comfortable and less fatiguing ride because we could remain seated for 85-95% for bumps/uneven surfaces compared to always have to lift off my seat constantly without Kinekt.
Great if you have the money, and I do, but I'm not paying triple for a negligible improvement. I'm a casual rider, not a hardcore diehard. The Suntour will be fine for me.

I've been riding the Suntour for over a year now and I think it's great, such a comfortable ride. And I bought it for the bargain price of £58. I wish they'd make a suspension stem too
I bought a Kinect seat and omg, its like riding on clouds. It was such a great investment.
I have the Cane Creek eeSilk Plus (35mm) ($220) (owned almost 3yrs)
I have the TransX Antishock QL (25mm) ($110) (owned just over 2yrs)
I have the Cane Creek G4 Thudbuster ST (50mm) ($200) (owned just over 2yrs)
I would say that aside from the Redshift, all three of these blow away the Kinekt and Suntour.
I don't actually like the Redshift because the adjustment is internal and its ad ridiculous process to set it up.
The eeSilk Plus is premium. For a gravel bike, extremely good! The only issue is that 1) its expensive and 2) only comes with one elastomer. Seperate ones can be bought from Cane Creek. I chose to drill a hole through the center to soften it up, your mileage may vary depending on your weight. Aside from that, it's really a very very well made suspension post. Just be careful of the bolt that holds it together for the elastomer 'cage', the bolt can work itself out. Loc-tite is your friend!
The TransX is actually very very good! Comes with 3 elastomers, very easy to setup and dial in, and functions very well! I have no complaints, and highly recommend (you can buy it on JensonUSA).
The Cane Creek G4 is the newest of the Thudbusters. I don't recommend this for gravel bikes, but its really good for MTBs. It comes with 3 elastomers to dial in for your weight and works great, but it is far more active than the other two as it has 50mm of suspension.
As far as the title, "Best on the market"....none in the video are IMO.
If you're looking for the best performance, the Cane Creek eeSilk can win by both comfort and weight.
If you want the best performance on a budget, the TransX Antishock QL has no competition. It's simple the best post for the money in my honest opinion.
Hey, thanks for the reply, and great info on all of these other posts. I looked into these before making this video, but they didn’t compare in reviews. When I picked the posts for my video I combed through hundreds of seat posts and picked 4 of the highest rated posts on Amazon. That is where I got the best on the market idea from. The Suntour has 81 percent of their reviews 5 stars. The Kinect is 82 percent and the Redshift has 89 percent 5 star reviews. The cane creeks were all poorly reviewed on Amazon. If I remember right, they were somewhere around 60 to 70 percent 5 star reviews. I’m not saying they are bad, but they just weren’t rated high enough when I was shopping. I plan on putting the Kinect, my favorite, against other posts in future videos, maybe I’ll use some of your recommendations. Thanks again! Great info!

The Cane Creeks are on Amazon, at least they were when I was shopping or I’m not understanding which cane creek posts you are mentioning. The cane Creeks are what I was referring to. The anti shock isn’t on Amazon, at least I didn’t see it when I was looking.
I think Cane Creek products only recently become available on Amazon? Anyway, I only see a few reviews, but most look very positive (on US and Canadian Amazon anyway). I bought an eeSILK Plus Carbon Seatpost for my gravel bike directly from Cane Creek. At any rate, I agree with Josh -- the eeSILK is awesome. Even on paved roads, there are lots of potholes and cracks (it's Canada after all), so the suspension has been excellent at reducing fatigue on the body. Now I am wanting suspension for my stem too lol.
@@VoltVlog I'm sorry man, but if you don't know the seat posts from Cane Creek...they were literally the first name in the game when it came to performance suspension seatposts, and you didn't bother to visit their website prior to this response or prior to making the video saying you don't know which seat post I am talking about. I literally provided the exact make and model, price and length of travel.
There are a plethora of other content creators that have legitimately tested these product, well I don't know what to say other than you're inexperienced in this area..and likely in many others. Visiting manufacture sites, especially 'major players in the game' should be automatic.
I wish you the best in your goals, but this is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, because you really don't know.
I own a Red Shift and love it. It is the only one I've ever used but I don't recall the seat being all that difficult to set up and adjust. I weigh 200lbs +/- 10lbs. I run the second internal spring and think it is just about perfect. Settles in about 1/2 inch of sag, plenty of travel. I have not tried the others. Might try the 90$ suntour just to see. AA2
That’s good to know, I was thinking it might have been my weight that was throwing the ride off, but we sound about the same. I bounce between 190-200lbs.
@@VoltVlog you can't just compare bodyweight and think it should perform similar. From what I understand redshift is primarily targeted for gravel and road bikes. On those bikes you have have usually a weight distribution of about 40 /60 for front vs back wheel depending going more towards 50/50 if you riding in a very steep aero position. By the looks of your super wide grandma saddle and the angle of your arm while riding it seems you riding very upright which means a which distribution of 10/90 which actually means just based on your weight a differents of about 60lbs on the back side of the bike compared to a road/gravel bike position.
I actually don't know how the other both are targeted but the first impression seems like you compare a 28mm pirello p zero race tire to a 45mm mtb tire and saying the 28mm feels squishy on downhill gravel single trails.
And without any intention of being offensive please invest in some proper tools. A set of good quality alen keys is the minimum a grown up above the age of 25 years should have. Trust me working on your bike or anything else gets way easier if you have proper tools instead of multitools or some cheap aliexpress stuff. Multitools like you used are basically emergency tools, they are not designed to be good they are designed to be helpful in a situation where you don't have access to proper tools.

I recently installed a 40 dollar one from Amazon. It did nothing and the instructions were crap. You’ve inspired me to tinker with it and get some sort of cushioning.
I originally had intended to include a $30 zoom in this video as well, but it never worked. Not even a bit. The suspension didn’t hold a load, and the tension ring and screws were machined wrong. So I sent it right back to Amazon and settled on the 3 posts for the review.

Yup, I had an old pogo-stick type post on my road bike for a while. Which for sure was better than the post that came on it. Which is why I originally was going to include one in this review. But, I know exactly what you mean…the first few times with the Kinekt/Suntour I kept checking my tires because it felt so soft and smooth.
bad rear suspension can be dangerous. Pogo style seat suspension is sure to bounce you right up off the seat if it works at all.

Got a By.Schultz G2 parallelogram 50mm travel. The colour by weight springs are so easy to install/replace and the entire unit is built like a tank. Best aftermarket kit I bought besides a well fitted comfortable saddle.

Very useful video thanks a lot for that. Just one thing though. At the end of this video you talk about the biker's weight when using the Suntour seatpost. Let's not forget that for just a few extra bucks you can buy the red spring that is made for heavier people than the stock blue one, in other words the one that's included by default!
Yes, there are 3 spring colors I believe. So it will work for a wide range of riders. It’s a great post!
@@VoltVlog I just checked on their website and come to think of it I think you're right. The stock black standard one is for people who weigh between 140lbs and 195lbs, but you can buy the blue one if your weight is under 140lbs or the red one if your weight is higher than 195lbs.
Using proper tools might have made a difference with the Redshift. I'm always surprised when people work on their bikes with multi-tools. They are always klunky and difficult to use. I even carry a small set of hex keys on my touring bike after being frustrated trying to work on the bike with klunky multi-tools. I only really use them for emergency tools on my day rides.
I have the Redshift and had no problems setting it up.
I hear you on right tools for the job, but, I will say the other 3 posts I used during this video: the original post, suntour, and kinekt all worked flawlessly with the multitool. Which, I think does say something toward the redshift being less convenient to use. And in some way speaks toward the effectiveness of a multitool. But for sure, it's not the perfect tool for any job really, unless, I'm stuck out on a trail somwhere then I'm making it the perfect tool for the job. :-) Happy riding!!
I was about to write exactly the same thing. I have tried several multitools, but none were easy to use and the weight isn't significantly less than the kit I've put together.
You used a different multi-tool to adjust the other seat post (a green slender one) compared to the fat silver one on the redshift, then you complain its harder to mount the redshift...kinda moronic on your part, which tells me your whole review is biased based on that observation alone. I use both the Suntour and Redshift regularly, and my experience is somewhat, but not completely different.
My Suntour is on a fat-tire hub-motor e-bike similar to the one you're riding in the video, and I like the plushness as my commuter/grocery-getter, and butt more planted in the seat.
I've also tried the Suntour on my Cube Reation EXC (Bosch mid-drive) and much prefer the Redshift.
The Suntour was too bobby partly because it IS designed with more travel. It wasn't terrible, but less 'bike like' for sure.
On a regular bike, or mid-drive e-bike, I find the lesser overall play in the Redshift to be a benefit, as it's closer to feeling like it doesn't exist, except when you hit those bumps.
That being said, for more grarly terrain, its probably smarter not to be sitting on your seat at all, and using your slightly bent knees as suspension, but I think that's the old school mountain biker in me. :)

Purchased a cheapo unit from Amazon for $29 and love it. Nobody ever reviews the “other” options. I could have purchased 9 of them for the price of the connect unit here.
I also have cheap suspension seatpost. It works OK only at exactly one point of sitting. If I move slightly front or rear - the absorption is not effective anymore... With redshift I don't have this problem

Finally! A head-to-head comparison. Great review and very helpful. For 90 bucks I'll stick with the Suntour. $270 for a seat post, for my use, is over the top expensive even though I can afford it. I have a suntour on each of my MTBs. For the benefit they give plus the price point and ease of set up/adjustment/maintenance and reliability...unbeatable. My opinion as a 20 mile per day commuter.
For the price one kinek I was able to upgrade all my e-bikes with suntour. Love the ride
2 important categories you might of itemized:: comfort on minor road chatter at high psi tires, and avoiding strong rebound that can lift you off seat (dangerously). You did mention kinekt stayed "very connected" on this last item. I did not notice you say the same for the suntour.

Thanks, definitely something to consider for future seat post reviews. And the Suntour was really good at keeping me connected also. The key difference for me between the Kinekt and Suntour was that the Kinekt once dialed in allowed me to sink into the ride much more, with plenty of room to travel up and down. Which kept me from bouncing off and from bottoming out. The Suntour for me was less responsive to adjustments and I felt like I couldn’t quite sink in without it becoming too “soft” to really have the same level of ride. But if I had never used the Kinekt, I would have been blown away!! And honestly still am!

Suntour NCX, the best bang for the buck, easy pre-load adjustments for less than half the cost, excellent quality. The neoprene velcro cover was a nice touch.
I went with Redshift. Reviews pitched the seatpost more so than the stem. I got the seatpost and later got the stem. I'm a casual, low mileage, tooling around type hybrid rider. I really notice the seatpost. The stem is more subtle and I could live without it. Although I'm happy I have it. I believe the two work well together. I purchased Redshift arc light pedals and tail light. An investment but worth it in my opinion. I'm thinking most suspension seat posts should function well overall. Makes for a more comfortable ride. I also have a Brooks B17 saddle. I really like cycling and these upgrades make the overall experience better.

I just bought the Kinekt and must agree with “Joe” here, it’s the best, it’s my third seat post suspension, and by far the most effective at what a suspension is intended for, canceling the imperfections of the ride/road

Personally I went with an e-bike with a *full air suspension PLUS a Suntour,* and my back is very happy. Now I'm looking for a better air fork from my spring POS .. so my arms and hands are happy. Also once you have any of these dialed-n and attached to your seat your (#1) isn't really an issue.

I used Suntour seatpost and it worked OK, although it kicked a bit sometimes since it has no damping. Reason I stopped using it was the saddle clamp. Tilt setting has too big steps, in one setting I slided forward and in next front was too high and caused me pain in crotch. Now I have Thudbuster which has smooth tilt setting without any steps.

I like the Redshift saddle position system was for me by far the easiest to dial in the seat angle. I absolutely hate the Suntour seat angle setup, could never get the exact saddle angle I wanted. As far as suspension goes for me the Suntour worked the best. I have not tried the Kinekt yet.
I have the Kinekt one and have their cover to keep the dust and dirt out, and also got the seat post lock so someone can't just walk off with it their seat. I have about 8000 miles on it, and it is still doing good. What I also like is you can rebuild it, and get any part if one break, I have not had to rebuild my yet, I think that cover helps a lot! Plus, I like the weight limit being 330lbs so you know it is heavy duty and the different spring selections for your weight. I have it on my Himiway Zebra Ebike!
I have ridden Suntour for 5 years now, and wanted better and bought Kinect. The main downside of Suntour was that you need to service it every two years, or else the spring piston gets stuck. In kinect there is practically no possibility for friction. If you have the money, I also recommend Kinect over Suntour, because then you would not need to make the upgrade later when you get tired it being stuck. Though Suntour is not bad at all when it is serviced.
If you increase the pre-load and increase the firmness, you lose the overall suspension travel, right?
Not sure whether you are aware but you can buy different colour springs for the suntour depending on your weight.
Yes, thank you, I didn't mention that in the video. They have two other springs that I'm aware of for riders over 195lbs or under 140lbs. I come in between 190-195 lbs any given day which puts me at the highest weight the standard spring supports. Since I was right at the higher weight level, I thought when I first ordered the post I'd likely need to purchase the red spring for it to work for me (the red spring is for riders over 195 lbs). Thankfully, the standard settup on the Suntour worked perfectly for me at ~ 195lbs.

Yeah, if you’re at the lower end of the recommended weight range, you may find the softer spring more comfortable. I’ve got two of them, one with the default middleweight spring, the other with the red stiffer spring. The red spring definitely feels a bit harsher and the black spring never bottoms out, even for my 220lb bulk.

Nice video! Regarding the Redshift did you play with the preload? I find that it works great when it sinks down a little when sitting on it. Will have to try the Kinekt for my e-bike. e-bikes are heavy and stiff so the impacts are so much harder. It's weird because they feel smooth on the road, but the back and hands don't lie.
How come the posts are so short?
In my case the Suntour was problematic for seat angle adjustment, since it has notched detents which hold the seat at specific angles. But there are ways around it (in my case gasket material was used as a spacer) so not a deal breaker. This is my first suspension seatpost and the ride quality is a night and day difference. It smooths everything right out and makes the bike more controllable due to less disturbances when going over unexpected bumps.

I'm on my second Suntour, because it is indeed very comfortable given the price. It has only one (major, imho) flaw, which you'll only find out about after a year (or two, depending on your frequency of use): The joints are pin and collar (kind of like a watch bracelet): After only a year in my case, the pins started to come undone, meaning they start to come out of the collar from the side. This could lead to very dangerous situations. You can simply press them back in, but you have to be mindful about it or it will end badly. The play on the joints also increases significantly over (relatively short) time.
I can get a little cheap on myself sometimes that's why I went Suntour.

Awesome! It's a great trail! I used to do that same ride when I was a die-hard roadie. Racked up about 10k miles a year doing that stretch a few times a week, then I switched to eBikes a couple years ago for daily commutes and fell in love. I'm not on the trail as much anymore as my little family and I are trying to travel more (RV Life) and soon will only be in Bakersfield seasonally.

Why use different tools for tightening the bolts? Larger one for redshift, smaller (yellow) for kinetic. And why use a multitool at home anyway? It seems to me that the redshift is ment for road race bikes, and the others for ‘normal’ roadbikes. The connection part is more to have the ability to place the saddle exactly as a rider wants, on what ever bike. Some want it tilted forward a bit, which seems not possible with the other suspensions. Thx for the video!
While I think I understand what you were trying to communicate, the phrase "sink INTO the bumps" does not convery what I suspect you were trying to convey...if i got your intended meaning -that you were not being bounced off the seat, thats a reasonable parameter to try and quantify. I agree that Redshift's 2 bolt tilt control is labor intensive, but I like their seatpost very much. It doesn't feel like you are falling backward off the seatpost as with Suntour, and its a slim, lightweight package. My favorite isnt represented here - sold on Amazon by "Bibike" its branded "Safort" -its most similar to the Suntour NCX, and is in that price range. Having tried ALL of these, I am almost certainly going back to the Safort, if I change out again. Thanks for your testing.

They're hard to come by nowadays but if you find a U.S.E. Alien shockpost they're probably the best functioning and best looking.
Kinekt is a game changer but if you use the heiver springs dont waste the money on the adjustment key as the threads aren't long enough.

Did you consider the Thudbuster St or Lt?
I did have them on the initial list, but made the decision based on overall reviews on Amazon for the final posts I used in this video. Cane Creeks didn’t have enough reviews on Amazon at the time I made the video. However, I plan on making more of these reviews with other posts. I’ll almost certainly include a thudbuster in that review. I know they perform really well, and have a long track record in this space.
The sad thing about the suntour for me, it seems is that it has a wide variation when it comes to weight of the rider. They have different springs, but you have to go through the rigamaroll of finding a place which sells them and has them in stock... Suntour need to start shipping all 3 coil options with the product instead of penalizing those who are either too light, or too heavy for the standard spring. That, or they need to start shipping different SKUs so you can buy the seatpost with the right spring from the get go.
I've ordered the suntour just because it seems to have the win when it comes to price to performance. Having to wait for the hard spring is going to be tough though.
I like the Kinect less, since of the color dismatches, grey spring,...black post, it's a detailing I don't get nor like. I stick with and love my SR Suntour NCX. It is the best suspension post I ever used. And I used more brands than showing. Also candle versions and what nots. The SR Suntour stand above them all. It is to me the perfect susp. post. Also as for pricing. It just needs, like all of them, some love, it needs to be kept clean from time to time, and it needs grease is all. And than it functions like an angel to one's bottom, back and all over health, let stand that it keeps one from being worn down by pain and fatigue, and against soreness. Simply so far, the best seat post ever.
