This bike is so beautiful. It would be perfect if they could make a full suspension system that looks both minimalistic and integrated into the design.
Very good point. A rear rack is essential! We've passed this on to Stromer. It will be available but we think it should come with the bike. Your point about the derailleur is a good one, though I still love a Shimano Di2 shifting system the best over all others. Personal preference. -Brett
In my country Holland in Europe it’s forbidden to ride on bicylce lanes inside cities. Only outside you are allowed. This bike is under the our law the same as motors. So in rush hour in cities you have to join the cars ect in traffic jam while the bicycle lanes are empty at that time.
I test drove this bike yesterday, and without suspension it was way too hard and uncomfortable for me even when riding over very minor bumps. The chain on the minor gears was aslant in such a way, making considerable noise, being louder than a normal Mid Drive geared bicycle. But the power was incredible, I reached 48 Km/h on plain routes with ease and 33 Km/h on a long considerable hill. Only when the climb got very steep, I couldn’t surpass the 10 Km/h. Surely a nice e-bike, but not for me. I was very relieved, when I went back to my Mid Drive bike with fork suspension and a good leather saddle.
@@henryrooyakkers797 With enough heat after extreme climbing, the system will start restricting power so as to not overheat. You have to be doing a lot of climbing at full power. Honestly, in most cases you won't run into this, although on a hot day with a lot of climbing you may notice a bit decrease in power after some time
Very beautiful bike BUT... 10.000 euros!!! These speed pedelecs are way overpriced, but they sell. So why drop the price, hey Stromer? Although a very beautiful bike, it has some cons. 1) Price 2) Expensive parts3) Not adjustable (modifiable)Just as a comparison:I have a 3700 euro ST1 (slightly modified suspension seat post and new saddle) . Did my first chain and chain wheel and cassette replacement at 12.000 km (after 1.5 years). If me riding position is not optimal, I change the stem to an adjustable one to sit more up straight. The parts on my bike are standard bicycle parts which have "normal" prices, and are not exclusive (read: expensive) parts.Maintenance and service costs after 12.000 km:Tires: 4x 20 euros = 80 euros (winter and summer tires)Cassette / chain / gear wheel : 230 euros (placement included)And top of the bill:While riding with boost mode activated and wind calm (or tail wind), the speed goes to 50+ km/hr with extra paddling. That's faster then the ST5.Only downside is range. With a 522 mAh battery, I get 35- 40km on maximum support with a full charge (afer 1.5 years)Up to you to make the choice ;-)
Joseph Maes : Its a pitty, i drove 13years with an normal bike to my work in Antwerp(28km/day), now on pension i don't yet need such a sofiticated bike. Is there no design planned for bike loving pensioners?
I love all the people bitching around Stromer's price. Same people that enter a Ferrari's showroom yelling: "hey, I can get a Ford Fiesta for a fraction of that price" :D :D :D
for 5k you cant get quite the same standard. but for 7k you can, kind of but not really. actually is there even a comparable pedelec with hub motor like this?
With a hub-motor you get recuperation and less stress on the transmission. Even without motor i had to replace chain and cassette after about 2500 km with my XT-hardtail. With XTR this is even far more ridiculous expensive. And the CX is less efficient without electric power because of more friction.
That is what I said until I test rode an ST2S. Kept my car (236,500 miles on it now) and instead got the ST2S. I basically swapped a new car payment for a bike that I love, and do not regret it at all. I don't think that I should test ride the T5 however!
Nice bike but still way over priced. ... remember when plasma tvs were average $3k but now the same if not better for $600 ...once everyone (makers) jumps on this fad it will drive the prices way down for us normal folks
10k euros pour rouler sur le trottoir car les gens en voiture marche sur la piste cyclable; mais très bon vélo mais dans les pays comme France ou Belgique faut oublié
Just wait to critique until you give it a try. Not all hub motors are equal and Stromer’s is phenomenal. Not for everything and everyone, but for a bike like this you wouldn’t want anything else.
Most people who are looking at electric bikes can be sold on the mid drive models. What they don't know is that the mid drive is crap. It will wear out the chain sprockets and chainring and then you will be back at the bike shop for a yearly replacement of those parts. That will keep the bike shop in business and they are counting on that. The mid drive also makes noise that you don't need to listen to. There are a lot of cheap bikes out there and if everything in your life must be cheap and kind of a deal then go for it, but if you desire the best then there is Stromer.
48Nm is a joke, it won't get you up a hill in its optimal speed range by far.. which means it will heat up, a bad situation, especially considering that the controller is built into the hub motor. electronics are heat sensitive, much more than motor windings. if it were in the 2000-3000$ range all these drawbacks would be ok... by the way, these bikes are full of proprietary parts which means, repairs will cost you a fortune! for the money of a replacement motor (for all those that cook on extended hill climbs) you can buy an entire bafang mid drive kit which has triple the torque and will not overheat ever, all you need to take care of is the drive train wear. living in Switzerland I can guarantee it is very hilly
I have the Stromer ST3 with a max of 44Nm and it's more than enough up hills. It seems to have far more high end torque (even up hills) than the Bosch Performance CX (that I have on my cargo ebike) --the Bosch seems to have far more lower end torque than the Synodrive II on the Stromer.
@@andrewhilger7370 well then you haven't compared it to a bafang mid drive (up to 160Nm @ 1:1 gear ratio) or even a emtb mid drive like bosch performance cx (85Nm). even if electric motors can produce torque up to 0rpm, doesn't mean it's a good idea to run them at lower than rated speed under full load. the efficiency drops drastically at full load (max assistance) below 30km/h for the stromer motor, since it's wound to achieve 45km/h. while the argument of regenerative braking does save brake pads downhill, it doesn't account for the lack of drive efficiency uphill (anything >5% gradient). with a mid drive and a wide gearing ratio you can climb any hill to the point where you must fear to burn your disc brakes downhill, while any hub motor will heat up dramatically and let you do most of the work before eventually cooking the winding insulation or even the controller if it's integrated inside the hub motor like on many Stromer models.
@@JoLe1991 I don't have any disagreement with anything you say here. I'm just saying my ST3 with 44Nm has, for me, plenty of torque going up steep hills. And no mechanical problems from overheating. Not yet anyway.
@@andrewhilger7370 a friend of mine just recently cooked his st1 motor. it was a hot day, around 34°C, he pulled the child trailer in the back, the bike was probably preheated from standing in direct sunlight (plus it has a black frame finish), and after a short time it stopped working for ever. he first thought the battery somehow produced overcurrent (which is impossible), but it was clearly controller failure due to excessive heat inside the motor (black aluminum is an excellent IR absorber and emitter, but if the sun is pounding on it, the absorbtion clearly dominates the emission.
one more criticism about stromer: for this price, other brands will put high end suspension forks and a high end rear shock on the bike, whereas I see countless Stromer bikes with a stiff fork that is horribly uncomfortable and costs next to nothing to produce. a high end air fork alone has a retail price of at least 500$
Nice bike but crazy money. You have to register it and tax and insure it just like a moped. Why not spend a third of the money and buy an e Scooter with twice the range and much better equipment?
I think, and then speak for Belgian customers, it is more profitable to drive an ebike, than an electric scooter. First, with a pedelec you have some movement, with a scooter you are lazy. And second, most of these stromer models are on a leasing through our employer, which give a compensation for these pedelecs making it profitable when using it to drive to work. In my case it is break even, and I have a nice pedelec to use in my private time for free.
I purchased one of these. Nice bike but purchased with a Shumplf front gear hub even though this should be a robust gear it failed after 1000 miles. Pulled gear and discovered gear is horribly designed. My $3000 Strommer is now out of action and Schumplf won't honor 5 year warranty. @
not very much really. A Stromer's engineer can earn up to $150 an hour. Minimun wage in Switzerland is £25.5 per hour. Cost of work is higher if compared with the US.
You'll have to pay a bit more for something that can fly :). The Stromer isn't for everyone, but the value is high and if you have the budget for a really nice vehicle, this is one of the best you can buy.

The price is absurd. one could get a Riese &Muller for that price or a high end full-suspension MTB with top of the line components . both would be far and above the Stromer . Sorry but this company has shown master ship in presentation not engineering .

29 inch wheels please! :)
How would it operate in a Canadian Winter?
William Lauzon I have winter tires on mine haha
Or India roads!
Vandaag opgehaald en vind het waanzinnig, wat een ervaring , zeker een aanrader, en niet altijd naar geld kijken hoor.

It does not have SUSPENSION, why
Stromer, make longer front fenders, they're useless!
YES, in the rain that front wheel will produce a rooster tail of dirty water all over the rider.
what's the range
Depends on many many factors, but we say between 40 and 100 miles
why the apron? are they making a 10k cake!!! joe from nyc
