Free Clutch Mod to Stop Clutch Slip

As you know I've rebuilt the 3a92 Mirage Engine for 6-7X factory power, but all that horsepower isn't going to do me any good if I cant get the power to the wheels. So I'm going to show you how you can modify any manual clutch to double the clamping force on your vehicle. Its a great cheap way to increase clutch performance for a boosted build without having to mortgage your home...

I'm not gonna tell you what to do but I have a little bit of an issue using bolts like that.
Single shear bolts are not very strong. Ever. They also do a terrible thing of acting like a saw when the shear load hits the tooth profile. I also don't know why stainless is even desirable. The rivets and pressure plate or straps are not stainless and regular 18-8 stainless hardware isnt particularly strong. Grade 8 is more than likely stronger.
There are AN fasteners with rolled fillets that come in 1/16" increments with shank washers but that's really high end stuff. They have an unthreaded shank for shear load.
I dont know if you have ever tried to hot rivet anything but its not that hard. Getting them hot enough might be an issue without the equipment but these little rivets you could do with a ball peen hammer.
I'm not trying to throw shade on you, this looks like it could work and work well. I am a little worried if those bolts won't come back to bite you.

I 100% agree! Unfortunately I did not have many other options available from my hardware store. I used stainless to get a good tack and also put a healthy amount of torque on both sets of threads for greater sheer strength. Thanks for your comment great info.

Excellent modification, I saw this modification in a channel of Puerto Rico to a mirage HB.
Next week I will put my bronze clutch, but...: if I make this modification, will I have to reinforce the steel cable? or will I put double steel cable?

Thanks! Id like to think the stock cable can handle it but funny fact i’ve never driven a Mirage so i’m not sure the force needed 😂 The wilwood hydraulic clutch I use could be adapted to work in a mirage if needed.

I’m the owner of that mirage and the way to go is the stock oem cable! I use a generic one and didn’t las long 😂😂

In my case I want to think that I will have to reinforce the clutch... I will have to see options for the tractor, I hope to upload a video too, even if it is photos.
First I will test only the bronze clutch, they are the normal clutch springs ...... then I will try with turbo and I will take notes

@@mirage3a92turbo7 It's true, a generic cable doesn't work, it has to be original, at least here in Mexico mega-reinforced cables are made since here they are used as collective taxis with 5 people all day long (plus the luggage, sometimes that luggage with boxes of vegetables , sacks of rice or even packages of cement XD)

It's the same clutch i'm using to this day! It's held as much as 415 wheel hp

Interesting but, how did you actually shave down the teeth? Angle grinder? Or a Lathe / Mill?

I used an air grinder with 3” disk by hand. I’m sure there are better methods, but whatever’s used make sure to measure and mark them for consistent height and angle.
