Lyrics:
I know that you've been damaged
Your soul has suffered such abuse
But I am not your savior
I am just as fucked as you
I am just as fucked as you
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself
I'm here because I'm old and can't let go of music I listened to when I was 14
Same here buddy! Reliving the good old days one song at a time.
😁
Same here
I literally just watched Shame with my girlfriend of 4 years and when she gave me that vacant look of disapproval I questioned my entire life
Me too...! Teen years
This song popped into my head when I was a homeless addict. I did save myself from my own self destruction. 4 years sober 3 years awakened to self. Nothing better than self awareness.
dont blame the drugs coz they used you
That’s awesome!!! I hope your still doing well.
Fuck and yes my friend. Congratulations!
Stay strong because that life is always awaiting all of us. You've got the heads up on already knowing what it's about. Most people don't and they won't understand that fact. Use that to your advantage. Be strong and stay well.
Stay strong brother!
We, people between 35 and
50 are the generation that enjoyed the best music.

I'm 58 and consider this awesome music. Of course I usually listen to Slipknot and Static X when I'm at work too, so, results may vary

I'm 102 years old but I loved this song back in the 90's, when I was 72!
90s alternative was the fucking best. That was such a golden era for music.
Yes it was. Bands had their Own Individual sound. Now, everyone sounds like everyone else...
I agree 💯👍 with you ok
Indeed! It's pathetic what passes for "alternative" nowadays. I listen to it and I'm like WTF? Where's the anger, the despair?
I agree, but lemme point out that this is industrial

Wow I don't believe I've ever been able to own anything for longer than five years . It rough being someone else's property .
Good on you. Stay young!

One of the best lyrics ever: "If I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone"
It hits home with a great weight on ones soul
This is why I've divorced 3 times lol
"I know your life is empty, and you hate to face this world alone."
My depression: "go on."
It's funny because it's true! :)

They called it angst in the 90's. It was fashionable.
I feel attacked

Anybody else feeling old just for being alive when this song came out?
20 years later this song still sounds modern.
Totally agree.
Lol no. Sounds like a 20 year old NIN ripoff
The old school kids who still listen to nu metal need to hear this. Every musician amped to the max especially Chris . That guy has one gutsy voice.
Cuz nobody's original anymors
See, that's the thing with this era of music. It always sounds fresh. This new style of metal that hit the scene back then is a thing of beauty.
I so miss the 90s and alternative music.
Christopher Michaud me too... and early 2000's. the last 10 years haven't sprung anything that's really memorable in this genre. moving on up to nu-metal. 😊
90's music was some of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not often I experience nostalgia, it's actually very rare for me. But the other day I was saying to my wife how much I miss the music of the era. It was all so different, bands tried new things, labels erected that were about this type of music and not so much about putting their music on every radio station on the planet. It was an era when it was OK if you liked a niche thing and your passions would pull other people in. Ugh, I sound pathetic right now.
nu-metal? what's that....is it anything like the 90s?
yep I've said similar things to her lately (my wife) and she's like looking at me lie huh?????...I'm trying to explain it ain't just the music though of that time....it was a bunch of other good stuff too!
OMG I forgot about this song and just randomly fount it, for the rest of the WHOLE summer my neighbors will enjoy it also.
Fount it. 😅😅
I'm 238 years old and first listened when I was in my early 200s.

Saw these guys at Sick New World 2023 in Vegas. AMAZING. They are better live than their recorded material, which is very rare for a band. If you get the chance to catch to catch them live, do it.

For the life of me I will never understand how Stabbing Westward didn’t become the biggest band on earth.
Right?
Good tune here but overall not talented...they faded quick so that has to tell you something.
This came out in 1998, when NuMetal ruled the charts. At this point, NIN and KMFDM pretty much were the only Industrial Rock bands anyone gave a shit about.
They weren’t good enough plain and simple
@@stickywicketful they were good enough to get lots of airplay on alt stations in '98...and opened for Depeche Mode. Doesn't take much talent though huh? YOU could have done the same ...im sure! I was 26 then and remember this song being played PLENTY ON ALT Radio then!
This band fueled my depression and also saved my life all at the same time. thank you for existing when i needed you.

Welcome to 1997, or something like that. 🎉
This was the era when two moons orbiting the same planet collided ... Grunge vs Industrial. Lol.
I know, it almost sounds like NIN, but with more guitars
Like what other bands? Besides NIN though, Trent is less grunge and more industrial/raw emotions.

90s? I grew up with these guys in the mid 2000s. :/
totally 90's. Darkest Days was released in 1998 and Wither Blister Burn and Peel I think 96. this song got some movie play in the 2000s maybe that brought younger people around?
The Death Twitch they used this in smallville though that was 2000s
still works tho
Highly highly underrated band.
The NIN comparisons killed them. A shame
@Esoteric Jesus A little? Album's over 20 years old and YT launched 15 years ago...Jake Paul/Billie Eilish/Markiplier/Cardi B-types rack those up overnight. Ask a random person if they've ever heard of Stabbing Westward
@@jasonsantiago6308 I'm just discovering this band, and I don't why that would've killed their popularity. Seems like there was more than enough room for this band, NIN and others.
@@kim1570 It's possible that I'm just old and remembering how things felt at the time. With Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, 16 Volt, KMFDM, Ministry, Thrill Kill Kult etc. all putting stuff out I distinctly recall hearing people say "why would I listen to these knock-offs, Trent is so much better" Or conversely, "I hate NIN, why would I waste my time with NIN-lite?" In other instances the output of the smaller bands just didn't stay consistent in quality or develop, so people who *did* like them got bored or grew to dislike the newer stuff (the 4th SW album, while I appreciated the effort, was WILDLY divergent). Over the years NIN has come out as one of the few survivors and most of those other bands are defunct so I dunno...maybe there was a nugget of truth in the criticisms one way or the other
I'd say they were amply rated. Even listening to them now wanting to like them I'm like 🤷♀️
I remember this song! They had a lot of potential and they were just different enough to catch your attention. But that decade (90s) was packed with kick-ass bands. It was like the Golden Age compared to what came after.
Their first album was the best.
Idk personally I think WAP is killing this song
Wither blister burn and peel
Don't worry we'll be saying the same thing about the 2000's very very soon. Great songs sound amazing when the nostalgia kicks in.
1992-1998 was a golden age for every genre of music we had in America
These guys captured industrial rock at the right time. Its a shame they disbanded after two albums.
Wither blister burn and peel
We used to call these guys NIN light...
Pretty sure they had 3 albums. 2 that were even good. There was wither blister burn and peel, a follow up I forget the name and the ungod album
Sure feeling the lyrics right now.
"If I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone"
I read that right as he said it
Word to the FACT!
Absolutely. Being lonely sucks, but it’s far worse being lonely around a lot of people.
Yes, it's the true lonely. Peace out.
Preferable alone than in bad company? He's paraphrasing George Washington!
This song was part of a revelation for high school me. I do not miss high school, but I miss everything else about those days.
I was there 3,000 years ago and Bought this cd 💿 when it was new 🤘🏼 was 21 years old
Hell yeah! Me too...music in the 90s was the best
Someone gave me this cd burned in 10th grade and I've loved it ever since. I still say "if I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone"
"Please don't take pity on me"
Still one of my favorite breakdowns in music.
You are 100% right. It's something I'd never heard before, musically. When the second guitar comes in... oh man. A perfect bridge with something new is a rare treasure. They clearly had a classical influence in that part, because you only heard similar things in the great composers who were experimenting with sounds and progressions.
Hardcore bands had been doing for about a decade at that point. Don't get me wrong perhaps that was their influence, but breakdowns with progressive guitar layering was a stable of NYC Hardcore music.
Hilariously enough, my mother went to college with these guys where they first met, Western Illinois University, and graduated around the same year as them. She had zero idea that they were on the same campus as her.
WIU? More like SWIU.
They used to play house parties! Give my earnest respect to your mum from a fellow Leatherneck. :-)
That would be awesome if she hooked up with one of them.
I always forget about this band which is criminal. Their 1st like 3 albums were all bangers & this still sounds great today. They were underrated & overlooked.

I'm an addict. I realized that rather recently, and I always will be, however, I can be addicted to better things, not this repetitive cycle of self destruction. This is my go to song whenever I'm feeling like I can't help or save anyone. I'm also a covert narcissist, a result of my childhood and past trauma. I can change, and I will. I used to feel exactly like this, and I still do. It sucks, but life is about sucking harder than a vacuum. How else are you going to learn? ❤ rock on fellow dudes.
Realizing; that is, MENTALITY is 90% of it…of ALL addictions. The other 10% is the physical & while it’s awful detoxing, 10% pain now is worth not having a lifetime. Problem for me isn’t the physical; it’s the psychological damages that have been inflicted, & have left me with scars that in my 50s I’m still struggling with. And this was & still is one of my go to songs as well. From the time I first heard it over 15 years ago, to 10 min ago in the car, trying to remind myself that I’m enough.

Most of us can't let go of music we heard as kids, it's human, nostalgic.

Why does it feel like this song should have WAY more views than it does...
Because the mindless masses lack great taste in music. Most YT users were probably born after this was made, but I was born in '88 and listen to REALLY old shit (40's Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole) sometimes so....

So many good songs came out in the 90s songs like this
My dad used to put this song on when we used to go to the local dingy bowling alley at night. It fit the theme.
I remember when SW first hit the scene. The emotion in their music grabbed me immediately. They went on tour with Depeche Mode and while I would stay far away from that show, the band cancelled due to illness and SW played a tiny cafe called the Mercury. The venue was a dirty little warehouse joint and the show was INCREDIBLE! Chris was climbing the rafters and sweating all over the crowd, pounding out the tunes. Man, what a great memory! Now that they are coming back to Denver, I may have to check them out.

Dude, I love old people's stories, you've lived through all the best decades! I know a woman who's 63 years old, she lived through the original Punk and Goth eras in London, Paris, Germany and Italy, and she has the best stories from that time, especially from her days of living in Squats in london. Funnily enough, one of her best guy friends and an EX from those days who used drugs like crazy and even used Heroin for a while is now an accomplished professor of clinical psychiatry and the head of a psychiatric hospital.😂
I'm 17 years old and therefore, unfortunately, I don't live in that golden era that were the 90s and 2000s, but I'm proud to be a rare young man who is a fan of underground bands from that time and that are also not known here in my country (Brazil).
Good for you. Music is recorded to be discovered.
The people of Brazil have a great love for US and British Rock music I have found out over the years. I saw a video of an Iron Maiden concert in Brazil and the crowd was the largest I have ever seen in my life. Great songs are universal :)

kmfdm, nin (fixed album and prior) thats industrial, this is alternative!
@@Lucradym It isn't.
@@Lucradym KMFDM is Industrial/industrial-metal/electro-industrial. NIN is Industrial rock (i.e the best kind of industrial) through and through, Fixed was definitely not the last industrial-rock album of NIN, I mean the freakind _downward Spiral_ came out afterward ffs. And in any case, Fixed wasn't really an album, it was a remix EP of Broken.
Also, I wouldn't compare KMFDM to NIN, if anyone can compare to them is 80s-early 90s Skinny Puppy, and even then it's kinda like comparing King Crimson to Pink Floyd because they're both Prog-rock. Pink Floyd were one of a kind, just like NIN. as for KMFDM, comparing them to NIN is like comparing Dream Theater to Pink Floyd.
