I remember catching this video on mtv at like 2:00 in the morning, 1996 or 1997. It was one of those rare gems that I knew by just one listen that it would be a favorite for my whole life.
Remember the torture of having to wait until you could get to a record store and buy the cd so you could hear it again?! Even though at the time it was time consuming and annoying, in retrospect that’s what made finding songs so special.

Yup. I was 16 in '94 too. Now all I do is look back and wish I could return. Every nostalgic song like this hits hard. Depression gives you tunnel vision. You just wish you could step back into your younger self. Do it all again but through hindsight, skip the parts that hurt the most. The 90s is definitely my go-to for music🤘🏻

For some modern eclectic ear candy with female vocals: "Amelia Arsenic - Oxytocin" and "Purity". Words fail to describe, other than you won't be "disappointed". Remember Veruca Salt? I loved that band. Always thought they should have been so much bigger and well known because they had the music. Some great songs. And even though I took shit for it from my friends "Republica". I liked their stuff too. It's not as "pop" oriented music as people think. You have to listen carefully to get their total vibe. A more modern band along these lines is the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" from NY. Their stuff is pretty good too. Completely unique, yet familiar at the same time. Good band. And all this from a "Metal" guy. lol I just love good music. Exciting, Heart Pumping music my preferred genre. I figure I've got plenty of time to sleep once I'm dead. Till then, crank that shit up! (but for those occasional trips to the other side in the "a.m. hours" of the morning, music like Sneaker Pimps fits the mood a little better I think.)

Your post about the 90s truly resonated with me. It’s not just the era but the people and the spirit that made that time unforgettable. I couldn’t agree more that it’s up to us to create moments of magic in our own lives.
I was fortunate enough to experience the 90s firsthand, and the music and culture of that decade still hold a special place in my heart. The raw energy of grunge, the rhythmic pulse of hip-hop, and the infectious melodies of pop were more than just trends; they were a soundtrack to an era that shaped so many of us. It was a time when music felt like
it was speaking directly to our souls, and every track told a story of its own.
Reflecting on that period, I often find myself marveling at how deeply it moved me, even though I was born a bit earlier. The 90s were like a vibrant tapestry, woven with threads of unforgettable moments and brilliant creativity. It’s amazing how a time so rich in culture can continue to inspire and influence us today.
Thank you for sharing such a thought-provoking message. It’s a reminder that while eras may pass, the essence of
what made them special can live on through our own actions and experiences.

Thank you. I don't mean to insult these people but it's like they don't have a backbone, they have to rely on other surrounding factors in order to have experiences that are true to their soul. Those 40 year olds that say that are just like the "facile" people of this generation. Again, I know I sound mean but all they do is shit on the current generation and blame them for being different from what they've liked instead of enjoying what they enjoy despite the mere temporal changes, they act like it's not possible anymore because new ages and young people have changed things when despite all of that it really, really is. "The past is never dead, it is not even past." You can live with this music like it was released this second.

    • @VelonicaProfile
      @VelonicaProfile 3 місяці тому +2

@@thereisauniverseinsideyourhand Mmmm. ya. it's always easier to cast blame than look at ourselves. The things truly worth doing are always more difficult. That's why there is value in it. The sad truth is that anytime you see someone complaining and blaming, they are revealing the truth - they dont have any answers. No solutions. And they dont know what to do, so this is what they settle for. It's okay. Dont waste a moment on these types. keep going. There are much more worthwhile people if you keep your eyes and heart open.

    Like nothing else
    In me

    Safe and sound,
    Too strung up to sleep
    Wear me out
    Scream and shout
    Swear my time's never cheap
I fake my life like I've lived
    Too much,
I take whatever you're given, not enough

Today's young people can listen to whatever they find on net - not necessarily to the music produced recently.
They often do not even listen to radio or watch TV - it was different when I was young - others selected for me what to listen to much more.
I doubt my children will refer to a music produced today as to music of their generation - I doubt they would remember any.
Even if I let our TV tuner on, they switch it to a music channel rotating music from 80s or 90s...
They switch it to this even when I had selected some "party tunes" with today's "generics" (and resampled simplifications of the originals), to feel younger :)
I testify they actually do prefer this older music (under NO pressure) and they are all teenagers... but still it could be they are not representative for the today's young generation...

It has 828,279 views as of this date - April 5th, 2023. Not bad for a band who was swallowed whole by No Doubt, Garbage, Celine Dion, and Alanis Morissette. They probably were more popular in Europe, but in the U.S., they got lots of airplay without lots of sales. I didn't hear a peep from them a year after this video came out. But maybe I was just watching the wrong video channel (VH-1).

I'm watching this video right now, basically crying, wishing that I could go back to the 90s... that attitude of that era, the griminess and the edginess. Unfortunately, given the way Society is today, we will never have another decade like the 90s again, and it just crushes me.

There will be decades just like the 90's for another set of people, just not us, because in the end it is not the decade we miss as much as it was our youth in that space and time.

@@LastvanLichtenGlorieNo.. I'm sorry. Anyone can miss their youth. The 90s were truly a time of their own that are unable to be repeated because of a global loss of innocence. This song touches me because it brings up feelings of yearning and wanting and aloneness (not to be confused with solitude or loneliness). Things have been speeded up to a point where such a feeling will forever be unknown to anyone who didn't already experience it.

@JennaCrispino Jenna, when we were young at that time, history was literally shifting into a new age. We were the party at the end of an age.
What's happening now is a consequence of that age ending and another beginning. It's always been this way. When two ages crossfade, as one waxes and one wanes, there is a period of chaos.
This is where we are, where we have been for nearly 25 years, but take heart. I promise you the chaos will diminish, but it's going to get messy.
And after, we, meaning our age group, will have the privilege to fulfill the promise of our youth, as ones who remember.
      Jenna, remember, okay?

If you voted for Tony Blair’s mass immigration and share holder capitalism then you can shed as many tears as you like on your Now that’s what I call the 90s compact disc…. You get what you fucking deserve….

Such a brilliant track - and a great album. But honestly Kelli is the reason i keep watching this. She ws magnetic, impossibly beautiful and a dental fantasy - they lost everything when they told her to go and sank without trace. But some very special moments

Dental fantasy? I admit that I think there's something up with her teeth but I don't fantasize about them.

I suspect this is meant to be a throw away line. But it is in fact powerful because most of todays semihumans would not be self aware enough or have the humility to even get close to saying this

First time I heard this song...I was driving to work at 6am. It came on 88.1 KTXT, Texas Tech radio station. It was Becoming X official debut and I was instantly in love with the beat...but especially Kelli's voice. Bought the CD that evening...and loved EVERY song.
