      @@foreveryoung806 use bleached or unbleached it’s ur choice. But unbleached is more natural and tastes nicer overall. Cheaper flours are bleached and can be whiter and feel softer.

      Charlotte Ebel It does have its uses, since you have to add double imitation vanilla when substituting. Plus it looks nice.

    John, I made these today, my very first shortbread cookies recipe and they turned out PHENOMENAL… They literally taste like my favourite shortbread from childhood and personally, I think the salt adds depth and brings out the sweetness of the cookies! Thank you for another amazing recipe!

    Made them yesterday, couldn’t wait to so didn’t refrigerate, absolutely melt in the mouth crumbly gorgeous. First time l’ve used icing sugar in a shortbread recipe. Add a (small) sprinkle of edible (English) lavender, fresh or dried for a tea-time special. Yummy!

    I've tried so many shortbread recipes - these are superb! Everything he says is true - easy, crisp and melt in your mouth! I like that he is just a 'regular joe' who happens to be a fantastic baker! Thanks and I'll be trying many more of Preppy Kitchen's recipes! (just in time for the holidays!)

    I made a few small changes and these turned out SO good, I replaced some of the confectioner's sugar with light brown sugar (about 1/4 cup) to give it a slight caramel flavour and replaced some of the flour with rice flour (about 1/4 cup too) to give it a little snap and crunch whilst still being soft

    I have tried so many butter cookies recipes over the years- something or the other goes wrong! Not this. These were perfection. Just follow what the man says and you will have people asking for more cookies! ❤thank you sir for this awesome recipe! 🍪

    Omg! My Favorite!!!! I’m making these now :)
    The dough is in the fridge
    These are so delicious!! I baked mine for 13 min and an extra min would have been ok. I knew they needed more time because the top still looked wet at 10 min. At 13 min it looked dry, so I took them out. But an extra min would have been ok as they are very soft still and no color at the bottom.

    I love this recipe John! I have made these cookies at least 4 times so far. So delicious! However, I was having trouble with the rectangular prism method because everytime I would cut the prism it would smash the cookies and they looked ugly. So instead, I rolled the dough out into a sheet and cut the shapes out! I felt like the cookies were much more uniform and neat!

      Did you chill it in the fridge before cutting? When I chilled mine it was super hard. Maybe put it in the freezer for a little while to solidify it?

    I made them this weekend as my Christmas cookies (I used a snow man cookie cutter). I made it all by hand, and they are delicious. Much better than my sugar cookies, and I can tell because I made both kinds at once!

    I have a recipe for pecan praline shortbread cookies that everyone loves. It’s essentially this recipe with crumbled pecan pralines mixed in. After slicing the dough, sprinkle each cookie with a small pinch of flaked sea salt. That sea salt makes all the difference!

    I made these cookies and these hands down! The BEST SHORTBREAD COOKIES EVER!!it is tooo good !! I always used to eat Walker's shortbread cookies and wanted to make some of my own.....that's when I stumbled across ur video and its chef's kiss!!...way more healthier compared to all the unnecessary chemicals added to the walker's shortbread cookies...these are a must try....just be careful while adding salt !

    I made my first batch of these yesterday and they were delicious. The only issue I had was cutting them without them crumbling at all. It is evident from your comments that I need to let them warm more to room temperature, an easy fix. I will also try to make them with Splenda replacing the sugar for my diabetic wife. Has that been tried? Great video and recipe, thank you.

      I subsequently made another batch substituting the same volume of Splenda for the sugar. It turned out really good. If I had to choose between the sugar and the Splenda cookies I would choose the sugar, but my wife loves the Splenda variety and can eat them safely. Great recipe either way.

    I just made a batch of these and wanted to gobble up the whole batch! They were amazing and they looked great! So much better looking than some of the other recipes I checked out. The color was a tan around the edges and the little holes look so professional! Absolutely mouth watering! I’m going for another cookie!

    This has become my goto recipe whenever I need some shortbread fix. Tried a few times adding some cardamom powder to get some spiciness to the plain shortbread. Yummy! My morning and afternoon cuppa companion! 😋

    God I love shortbread. It’s just so classic yummy. Just sweet, floury, little salty, maybe buttery depending on the recipe. That’s it. So simple and almost refreshing because it’s so uncomplicated. One of my favorite sweets.

    They are beyond delicious! I made them and lemon cookies (and batter for crinkle cookies! I had so much flower flying that even the kids next door were covered in dust!)
    These were my all time favorite! I put them in the freezer and they came out perfectly!
    Oh, the lemon cookies were great too but I didn't add enough space in between them so I had one giant cookie and if anyone had seen them they would have been scared to taste them! (I also overbaked them by ten minutes! Fortunately I stored them with the shortbread cookies and they ended up soft after all!

    I had to ad a couple tsp of water to get that dough consistency, but it came out awesome in the end!
    I've never seen a shortbread dough with powdered sugar in the recipe, so I had to try this and it turned out great! I really want to try it with almond extract next time 😊

    *Is the Vanilla a crucial ingredient?* I don't have any and was hoping to make these. PLEASE HELP! 😅👩🏻‍🍳🍪
    *UPDATE:* I made them without the vanilla and can 100% confirm that it is NOT a crucial ingredient! 🥳
    They came out delicious!
    I rolled mine into a log instead of a brick because I wanted round cookies
    Cut 1/2 in. slices and baked at 350°F for 15 minutes

    I will try this recipe... usually I make shortbread with a ratio of sugar/fat/flour 1:2:3,5 in weight not volume. So your recipe approaches a 1:2:3 ratio in volume with less butter (in volume should be one cup =220g)... actually comes close to a weight formula. These are really very good and I love a version with some chopped fresh Rosemary added to the butter.

    I love this recipe! I know me, so I am sure to dip the cookie (half way) in some melted chocolate, let it cool and set up then serve them that way. But either way, this is sure to be a hit around here. :)

    The nicest shortbread biscuits EVER the ratio of butter to sugar to flour is perfect

    Oh this looks awesome, gonna give it a go. I have a shortbread recipe three ways, divide dough in thirds add 1/2 c ground nuts to one, roll into table spoon size balls, bake, then roll into powdered sugar, once while hot then cool an roll in the p.s. again,
    2. Thunbprint cookies
    Roll dough into a log shape chill, slice 1/4 in or just thick enough to press out a teaspoon size little well in center if cookie fill with your favorite jam and bake, 3. Chopped some app. 1/2 c., hazelnuts mix with dough, form a small brick and chill.slice bake, let cool dip.cooled cookie into chocolate let cool, I dip mine on a angle.
    So easy mix up one dough a divide it up my family loves the variety.

    The cookies were amazing! They were so good ! The only thing Is that it was really hard to make it into a block as it kept cracking I suggest making it ur own shape ! It’s fun !😃

      Tip: Put the dough in the freezer for a few minutes just enough for the dough to set together, to get a little firm so that it can be manageable to shape it, that's how I do it and always worked, good luck!🍪

    Cookies are done. Yaaaay! I put my stash in a container to keep next to my bed. When I have a cup of herbal tea I'll have a couple cookies.

    I really love your channel. Your videos have it all in my opinion....they are super informative and educational but also beautifully presented and humorous too! Your little tips and tricks actually make a huge difference. For example, your trick about slightly kneading the shortbread when you form it into a brick so you don’t have any cracks.....I always wondered why my slice and bake cookies always had cracks and holes...now I know! I have just now stumbled onto your videos and will be trying many of your recipes. I have been a joyful baker for decades but have been diagnosed with a gluten allergy (I know....ugh!) but I have been experimenting with different flours a lot so I am still baking, but have to make that substitution. I will try your recipes and methods and let you know how it goes! Once again, great videos! Your buttercream and decorating videos are especially great! Thanks so much!

    Some persons have a positive affect. A very pleasant trait! I have just the opposite affect on people, even from my loved one. It breaks my heart! [ you sir have a delicious recipe at hand. I was looking for butter flavor cookies- found it!]. Expensive cookies if you buy them. Thanks for recipe.

    Oh man ok so my husband was on Keebler coconut dream cookie kick. I wondered how good they would be homemade. So I made these cookies and covered them with some homemade caramel, toasted coconut, and chocolate. HEAVEN HELP ME. These things were SO good!! The cookie alone was amazing! Lol I made some for our neighbors and my parents and siblings. Man they were gone by the end of the night! My stepmom has been begging for me to make these again lol. It was so easy too!
    10/10 would recommend

    I made a half batch and they are Delicious. ❤️❤️❤️this shortbread recipe and it was Very Easy to make. I put the dough in the freezer for a half an hour. I am looking forward to viewing your video recipes and trying them.
