I miss having delicious shortbreads (I live in America right now), and I didn’t want to buy any from the stores. I have been in baking mode thanks to this pandemic (to keep myself sane at home). I searched high and low for authentic recipes on UA-cam and in Google search, and for my first ever batch, I tried your recipe, Mr. Paul. Dear viewers and readers, this shortbread recipe makes, beyond a shadow of a doubt, absolutely delicious shortbreads!!! This recipe created enough dough for 2 batches in a 9x9 shortbread pan I had (each batch yielded 9 large 3-inch square shortbreads, a total of 9 large shortbreads per batch and 18 large 3-inch square shortbreads from this recipe). I baked them last night and my family has already gobbled up the first batch! Thank you for sharing, Mr. Paul!!!

Hi Mr. Paul! First off, I cannot thank you enough for posting this recipe. Several years ago, I had to give up eating shortbreads (my favorite cookie!) because the best are usually made with dairy product ( I had to switch to plant-based eating for health reasons). So after many years of forfeiting shortbread… I’ve been on the hunt for an authentic dairy-free shortbread recipe and none of them tasted perfect, until I found your video! I ended up substituting the butter for plant-based vegan butter and it tastes PERFECT! Just like the real butter version. Everything else, I kept exactly the same as your recipe. Now I make them as often as possible! And Every time I make them, I can’t help but think about you and hope you are having a nice day. Again, thank you so much for doing this video for us! Mr. Paul, Thank you for sharing this great recipe, You recipe resulted in the rich flavor of the butter. Hand mixing the ingredients results in the shortbread being light and flaky. Thank you Mr. Paul for this recipe. Scottish Shortbread is my all time favorite to pair with a cup of tea. Thus far, I have only eaten store/bakery bought biscuits. I had no idea they were this easy to make. :-)
I've made shortbread for years but this is the best recipe (sorry mum) and I learned a lot. Never knew the fork marks had a purpose! Also, good to understand the reason for making them 1/2 inch thick. I like making them by hand and prefer weighing ingredients rather than measuring them. The only suggestion I can offer is to use good quality butter. Delicious results and great video. Thanks!!!!

As a variation on a theme I made the millionaires shortbread from your website today. Yummy 😋 I would like to make an adult version with maybe Cointreau or Grand Manier in the caramel. When would you recommend to add the liqueur, at the beginning with the condensed milk (will the alcohol cook out too much) or at the end (will it crystallize the caramel)? Your expert tip would be much appreciated. Thanks and stay safe, greetings from Germany
@@Alexis84DE You can add alcohol to caramel but there are two things to remember. If you add the alcohol after the caramel has been cooling a while the crystallisation has already taken place so the alcohol won't affect it. However, it does tend to thin the caramel slightly so I cook the caramel a little longer to compensate for this. Hope this helps.

I had a pastry chef taste my shortbread and was quite surprised. He said it was the way it should, short, or not lasting long in the mouth. I use a spoon to press the butter into the flour using the back or rounded part of the spoon. I tried every recipe, and found the flours i liked most, then added as much butter as the flour would allow. I make them as gifts and people love them.

Have tried this recipe twice this past month. It produces exceptional shortbread cookies, in my opinion.
Very simple but the result is perfect.
Can't recommend this one enough.

Hello! Im half welsh half spanish, currently living in Spain and I am so thankful for this recipe! Here its difficult to find shortbread biscuits and when you find them, they are way too expensive. Absolutely love them!
Hello Eva, that's true, I think it must be the cost of importing them because the ingredients aren't expensive. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, I appreciate that.
Paul!!!
You're most welcome Faiza, I'm so pleased you and your family enjoyed them. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, I appreciate that.

I absolutely love this recipe I’ve used it so many times and it’s always loved by everyone!!!
I love the recipe and I love how innocent he is
Thank you so much, this recipe of your is a lifesaver. I am baking and selling it now ,I only add a little powdered milk and the taste is exceptional. Thank you love from Ghana ( Africa ) 🇬🇭🇬🇭
So when you add in the powdered milk, what quantity do you add in and do you have to reduce the flour quantity or leave everything else as same?
Excellent tutelage on something old and worth retaining. Delicious! Thank you.
My pleasure, thanks for watching
I gained 10 pounds one year eating Lorna Doone brand shortbread, one snack size package every day with my cup of coffee for breakfast. When I quit, I lost the extra weight. They were sooo good!❤️. Thanks for this very simple recipe. I'll give it a go. Regards from Texas 🙂
My mama taught me how to make this 50 years ago. I much enjoyed your tutorial, though! Thank you x

Could not suppress a shudder at someone calling beautiful shortbread 'butter cookies'!!!
The first shortbread recipe that completely convinced me. The best shortbreads I have ever tasted. I added a tiny bit of vanilla pulp.
No more "Walkers" or anything like that.
Thank you for this recipe.

Hi Marie, thanks for the feedback, I really do appreciate it.
Thank you Paul, that looks much easier than I thought it would be, I'll try that, they look very tasty.👍
Thank you, Paul. This recipe is absolutely fabulous, and my first time yielded shortbread as good as Walkers. Wishing you and your family the best of the season and a peaceful, super 2024.

Wow who knew it was so easy. I love shortbread. I might try this recipe. It's so expensive in the shops.
I made the recipe of the rice flour and it came out hard.. I regretted it😩.. Its your recipe am sticked to now..😂 Thanks a lot.. God bless you
Hi Mr.

I made half a batch yesterday (I needed a little bit more butter to get it to the paste in your video) and they came out tasting amazing and enjoyed by the whole family. Thank you!
Wonderful! But if you keep working the dough the heat from your hands will soften the butter and it will go together OK. Visit my Website mr-pauls-pantry.com/ For more recipes. Stay safe and keep cooking.
I have tried many recipes but yours is the best. All the ingredients are in the right proportion. There're no mistakes with my outcomes. We love our shortbread and my husband prefers your recipes too. Thanks so much for the tutorial.

Wow! I am so excited to receive your response. I will certainly give him your regards. Thanks again Mr Paul ❣️
Mr. Paul, Thank you for sharing this great recipe, You recipe resulted in the rich flavor of the butter. Hand mixing the ingredients results in the shortbread being light and flaky. In my experience, this is the very BEST recipe. If anyone makes this recipe, follow the exact instruction given by Mr. Paul in the video.
Thank you so very mush for passing on a legacy recipe.

Thank you Mr. Paul for this recipe. Scottish Shortbread is my all time favorite to pair with a cup of tea. Thus far, I have only eaten store/bakery bought biscuits. I had no idea they were this easy to make. :-)
The Short bread, Fantastic, thanks Mr Paul
I've made shortbread for years but this is the best recipe (sorry mum) and I learned a lot. Never knew the fork marks had a purpose! Also, good to understand the reason for making them 1/2 inch thick. I like making them by hand and prefer weighing ingredients rather than measuring them. The only suggestion I can offer is to use good quality butter. Delicious results and great video. Thanks!!!!
Thank you Caroline and Please pass my regards to your Mum ( and the recipe of course!) Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, I do appreciate that. For more of my recipes go to my website at : mr-pauls-pantry.com/

I too am scottish in canada 41 years. I found a recipe for sheetpan scottish shortbread with the very same ingredients with addition of rice flour. Recipe makes a medium and small pan and if you cut into 2 bite size you get approximately 100+ pieces. So glad to see the true recipe without cornflour, vanilla essence etc added and it is not a cookie.
Thank you! My grandmother made her shortbread without a recipe, so I was looking for a good one! Best shortbread I ever made - I particularly liked your mixing technique! I added chopped walnuts and put a bit of jam in the dimple. Was I ever happy!
That reminds me of the jam filled biscuits my mum used to make, I think they were called Jammy dodgers, I loved them. EDIT, I was right, here’s a link if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/kTH7O2OjPSk/v-deo.html

I had never tried biscuits like these until a visit to England. They were so delicious and different from anything we eat in the states.
Oh! My first time baking shortbread as I've put it off for many years. This was perfect. Thank you 😊 Best wishes from New Zealand.

Will surely try this I love shortbread cookies 🥰
A wee trick I learned if you dont want anything to stick to the pin when rolling out is to put a piece of parchment paper on top of dough then roll it out.
😎 'Short (no pun intended) and simple recipies is just about my level. 'Great video. 😎
