@PickAUserID Yeah bro, you did the right thing by doing the carpet runner.. if you hadn't done that surely there would have been a potential bad outcome!👊🏻
Seemed like a difficult project at first. Your video explaining all steps required to properly install the laminate on the stairs helped me decide with confidence to do it on my own. Great video! Thank you very much.
That's awesome! My hope is to teach and inspire and I'm glad your willing to give it a go! Good luck! I'd love to see it when you're done. Thanks for watching
Around town where I live there are quite a few stair shops that specialize in making square nosings out of basically any type of flooring to match the rest of your floor. The back of the nosing is left with the original locking edge so all you do is cut a plank to complete the depth of your tread and boom! your tread is perfectly flush, perfectly color matched and you can order your desired nose overhang. Also I’d definitely recommend to use a more heavy duty adhesive that doesn’t dry hard and cracks like wood glue
I learned about these local options too that my flooring dealer made me aware of. The only problem is that this doesn’t work well for laminate and vinyl. The mitered edges that are necessary inevitably end up with super sharp corners (which will also be fragile) or gaps with exposed MDF below the finished surface. The sales guy agreed this isn’t ideal for laminate/vinyl because you have to address this gap with a commercial-grade wax crayon to match the finish. This does work really well, however, for engineered hardwood floors. Especially ones with thick enough of a veneer. You can even route out a tiny round-overed edge and it would be perfect. For laminate/vinyl, not so much.
@@mrvvoo That’s actually very surprising to me. What city are you in? I’m in Seattle area and the shop that I use makes them out of pretty much every type of flooring including lvp and laminate. And they ease the edges of mitered corners and color match with special blended stain in a way that it looks and feels like a solid piece of material. It sounds like the guys you’re using just aren’t using appropriate tools to manufacture them 🤔

Real simple straight through no music, one of the best I've seen on UA-cam. And at Floor and Decor I ask a contractor and an associate about doing the steps and they went into a diatribe. I like that you used common sense from experience to do your thing. It just made sense and save hundred of dollars the tree and retread crapola they tried to sell me for 20 to 40 dollars a pop plus trying to get it stained to match the laminate. After I watched I said "I knew there was an easier way. Thank BRO. I've subscribed and shared. PEACE.

Your video was the only one I found that contained exactly all the information I needed to do my install. Great video! I used all of your ideas. Thanks!
Nice job young man. I first started doing laminate flooring on stairs 24 years ago when PERGO laminate flooring was just becoming popular. I remember being a little intimidated on my first set of stairs as I had never done them before in laminate.. Now I can do them in my sleep. They are very simple to do once you get it down. The only time they get involved is if you have railings and spindles with open stairs on one side or both. This means you have to remove the railings and spindles, hole saw precise holes on the sides of your treads for the spindles to go back in after the tread is installed. You also have to 45 your front and side pieces of stair nose molding very precisely and then put the spindles and railing back together. One wrong hole or cut and you will be pulling your hair out doing the tread over!!!
Great video, I did my complete staircase with this method to upgrade from carpet. One additional thing I should have done is to secure the tongue and groove with a strong adhesive, to eliminate squeaky stairs after removing the foam. I saved a lot over tread and risers from Home Depot.

Thanks. As long as all the tolerances are tight, it'll handle traffic just fine. It you install it too loose or don't have it touching the riser below it, it'll rock and slowly fatigue. Some people have issues with it or say it's uncomfortable. Personally I don't even notice them

Excellent video and tutorial!! Thank you for the time it took to make that. Two questions… if the laminate wood planks I am using have an attached pad, do you remove prior to gluing? Or just glue with pad attached? And on the stair nose… I found a simple nose to nail down (no track)… in that case, do you just have laminate instal on entire step? And not cut back as if to instal that track?
man, u were born to do this video!!! im attempting finishing my new mobile home on my own. finished all the floor except for a single step between my living room and my kitchen. is it the same principle?
Informative video. It’s probably good you left the gold linoleum as the really old stuff had asbestos in it and you don’t want to mess with it. 👍 looks great. Any concerns that the bullnose edge is higher where it overlaps the tread? I would be concerned that you could trip over that edge.
How do we install laminate that has foam backing? Can we glue it down same way or remove the foam backing first? Thanks for all your help. Best video on this topic.
The rest of it is the same way yes, but unfortunately you'll have to scrape off the foam backing material first. Thanks for watching, glad I could help!
Thank you again for this video . One question : Do we removed the under padding from the planks before installing ? Your advice will be much appreciated
For your transparent caulking application. Have you ever tried after applying with the caulking gun and before you tool it with your finger spraying window cleaner on it? Silicone and caulk bonds to dry surfaces. After it has been applied to the dry surface spraying window cleaner will prevent the spreading of the caulk/silicone. Then tool the area It will give you a very clean finish. Only wipe the major excess and not the silicone/caulk. Thought I'd pass that on.
I have carpet on my stairs that needs to go. Pets and kids are hard on carpet and cleaning only goes so far. I really want to do something like this and i have the skills, just not the tools and time. Thank you for this. Some times being an adult is realizing you need a professional

Thanks, glad you liked it! You'd have to remove the padding first if possible. I'm not sure about how that nosing would install, tough to say.
Great job… I will be using this video!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Glad it was helpful!
One of the best videos I've been watching
Thanks! Happy to help
Nice .. I would of never thought of putting laminate on the stairs. Like the look.
Thanks!
Watched this video like 10x. Thanks for all the details. Really helpful
Anytime
man, u were born to do this video!!! im attempting finishing my new mobile home on my own. finished all the floor except for a single step between my living room and my kitchen. is it the same principle?
Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, basically the same. Good luck on yours
Informative video. It’s probably good you left the gold linoleum as the really old stuff had asbestos in it and you don’t want to mess with it. 👍 looks great. Any concerns that the bullnose edge is higher where it overlaps the tread? I would be concerned that you could trip over that edge.
No concerns to me anyways, after a couole days you honestly don't even know it's there, its really under a quarter inch or so higher
Surprised that this is the only comment mentioning this. Regular diy people dont know this and may possible end up removing asbestos.
You make it look so easy and great play-by-play for non-handy person like me. Thank you for the video! You got a new subscriber!
Awesome, thanks! I'm happy to help and glad to have you aboard the crew
@@JessedoesDIY Thanks for quick response. Good to see that you care for fans.
No prob, absolutely. Fans are literally who I do this for. I want to help everybody do what they want
Thank you again for this video . One question : Do we removed the under padding from the planks before installing ? Your advice will be much appreciated
Anytime. If it has underlayment, you'd want to remove as much as possible
Thank you. Well done. But, I now know, I will never try this but will feel much better about paying whatever for it. Thanks again.
Thanks. Happy to help, even if it's just for clarity. Thanks for watching
Excellent video. Very helpful. I'm ready to tackle this now!
Thanks, glad it helped! Good luck on yours
Super cool. I am about to do this, but it may be a challenge because I have to do some on the side as well.
Thanks. Yeah, it'll take some more time. Good luck
Definitely. Thanks!
I have carpet on my stairs that needs to go. Pets and kids are hard on carpet and cleaning only goes so far. I really want to do something like this and i have the skills, just not the tools and time. Thank you for this. Some times being an adult is realizing you need a professional
Absolutely, I completely understand. And as an adult, sometimes it's hard to ask lol
@JessedoesDIY plus a professional won't have my kids running up every 2 seconds going "daddy!" Haha
Great job! I want to do this myself but I don’t know if I can do it.
Thanks. It's quite the job, glad I don't do it often
I've been using DIY videos for most of my updates in my old house. I'll admit that some of my work shows that I'm not a professional. Your video was one of the easiest to follow! I have gone back to it several times. Thanks!
That's awesome! I'm glad I could help out, keep it up
Great job of explaining step by step. What laminant flooring product are you using, I don't see it in the description.
Thanks. Yeah unfortunately I bought it at a local store and can't really find much on it. It was called Mono Serra, dark grey oak
@@JessedoesDIY ok, thanks!
YES! Thank you so much for this video. They do not make the color of my floor in the stair pieces. I was so upset I had to leave the ugly carpet on my stairs. I now have a solution to make it uniform. Thank you sooooo much
Anytime, glad I could help! Let me know how it goes! Good luck
@@JessedoesDIY I got my flooring! I have a question before I start putting it on the stairs. I am finding mixed information about putting the stair nosing on multiple stairs. I have 13 stairs I need to get done. Can I put stair nosing on all 13? Will it handle traffic fine up and down?
As long as it's nice and flush like I explained and resting on the flooring, not a gap that allows downward flex it will be fine
@@JessedoesDIY thank you!!! Getting started in a few minutes
Really nice job...I like for the stairs to the basement...
Thanks
This was a really good video! You take your time and you explain all the steps which I really appreciated. For folks that don’t do this for a living information like this is absolutely terrific. Job well done and many many thanks. 👏👏💪
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it and that I could help clear it up
