Good instructions, thanks.
One thing that I do differently is that I build from the bottom up, rather than from the top down. This ensures that each riser overlaps the stair tread below it, which makes the back of each step look cleaner.
I guess it’s to each their own, but I would hate for something to move while I’m walking up and down the stairs. It’s just preference really, but newbie people who d usually should let the glue dry before they walk on it.
Thankyou, your instruction was so easy to follow!😊
You’re welcome 😊
Excellent video . Thank you so much
You are welcome!
This video is great. I am not trying to be a Karen. But the cuts being that tight pushes the skirt boards away from your riser boards creating a gap. Just a small adjustment cut would be great. AGAIN, this video is great, and I have learned from it. Coming from a finish carpenter who has never done this before, this is the only piece of “constructive criticism” I could even give. And I may be wrong. Thank you for the informational video!
Appreciate the feedback!
Nice work. Looks great. I subscribed to the channel. Just a tip(which you probably already know) but when measuring for the stair nose,or even pulling a measurement between two studs or trimming out for a window jamb , instead of pulling the tape all the way across and bending it to get the measurement, just pull 10" off of one side and mark it, then pull from the other side to that mark and add 10" to that. Works well for a perfect measurement .
I know sometimes it can be off a 1/8"--1/16 " of an inch when you bend the tape like that.
I do that all the time, it's just for the video I brain farted LOL
Thank you for subscribing it means the world
wonderful. Great Great
Looks great, just can't use it when wearing socks. Sometimes I wonder if people have the capacity to think things through.
This material has a lot of texture in it, so socks, on it are fine.
What size strips should they cut the melamine?
However, tall, your stair is.
@@ArtisanRenos thank you
wish you could list of tools .glue and thinks of wood used..
Glue is any construction adhesive, and the riser wood is explained. The flooring is the flooring of your choice
I understand you want tight edges but, if the piece is bowed out in the middle, you didn't cut it short enough. I'd rather start out with a piece a little long and then cut it down if it doesn't fit. If it takes more than a little tap to get the piece in place, you need to cut a little more off. You need to cut slightly, about paper width, inside the lines from the stair jig.
If your table saw can’t cut a straight line you need a new table saw.
You should send him one.
If you have to buy a new saw because you’re incapable or unwilling to calibrate the table and fence to the blade, you should stop using tools completely.
@@Paine137why are ppl so mean these days?
This is really good video. You have detailed instructions and great closeup shots! The lighting is really good too. Thank you for posting. Question: where did you purchase the stair nose from?
Customer supplied them. But i get them from any flooring store usually. My favorite is gloor and decor
How thick is the melamine (riser), please? Is it 1/8" as seen on the price label?
Very nice work. What thickness plywood did u use for risers? Would you recommend 1/8” to cover up existing riser? Thank you.
I used an 8th inch that I cut it flush with the step.
This is a great video. I love the use of the melamine, exactly how to use the jigs and the tight shots of the cuts on the saws. Hopefully I can make this happen myself because of your video. I'm going to try and bend the vinyl planks to make the bull nose around the riser lip.
Im going to have a video coming out on that soon. But just fyi, if your using laminate, you cant really make those ouuta them
@@ArtisanRenos Ok so I'm at the landings. Joe do you stagger the planks on the landings to get a random pattern?
@@jovid7 i stagged them. It always looks better
Wow, the Osmo is great for this. I'm going to do something like this but I'm concerned about that bull nose because it has a ledge. So I might opt for a wooden bull nose. It'd be a nice contrast anyway. But 90% of your technique I'm stealing!
Thank you for the feedback. Those bull noses are glued on so hard they will never fly off.
The stairs came out amazing! Great detail and view in the video. I saw you left a space on the stair before installing the stair nose, did you have to account for the thickness of riser to determine how much space to leave at the edge of the stair when installing the stair nose?
Yes, but not much. There is a quarter of an inch gap in that particular stair nose that you could play with, some of the stair noses that I see on the Internet, don’t even require you to account for that. Just depends on your material.
did you buy premade stair noses?
Yes i did, with laminate thate usually the only option
Awesome, I hate the look of the riser being the same color as the tread. I am about to finish the steps but was thinking to paint the risers. How far off shade wise is it to baseboard white that runs down the side of the stairs?
I tell my customers to paint them. but if you keep them regular, its not that far off
Nice install sir. Those stairs were perfect for Cap A Treads. Wouldn’t have had to cut off the nosing anyhow
Customers existing flooring didn’t have a capatread option, pus those are expensive.
You do not cover the most important thing… the bullnose. Some are heating & forming, or buying which is expensive.
I was also thinking about that and I maybe would use wood OR heat form it insitu. I just don't like that little ledge because it will wear and it could be a trip point.
Not in my case. This is a laminate and you can’t exactly heat and bend that. So buying a store-bought, one is the only way to go. That little ledge is not going anywhere, those things are glued and nailed in place.
Actually I’m going this now in my house and if you read the instructions your supposed to use #8 screws counter sunk and then putty over or capped. My dad did how you did glue and finish nails and 2 years later it’s lifting from traffic
I would say that you use the wrong type of glue. Or it just did not adhere to the material.
Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thankyou. I am a COMPLETE novice and ive watched lots of you tube videos on how to install laminate on the stairs, this is one of the best as you showed detail in rasks that are overlooked. Im feeling more inspired about doing this i just need to hire tools like the table saws etc. 👍🏾
Glad it was helpful!
Why not have Home Depot (,or whatever store it was) cut the planks the correct height vs trimming it down?
Because not all stairs are the same. Ideally rather have it a inch bigger than too short.
Looks beautiful! I’m in process now of doing our stairs with laminate flooring.
Thank you for the clear instructional video. Much appreciated.

If you were also adding laminate to the landing above and below, where would you start?
pretend the landing on top is your first step. start there.
This is awesome, getting inspired to do mine. It'll be a good project.
Have fun!
Thanks very clear instructions, especially stair measure tool
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this great video, but one question, when these risers get old after several years of use, with what kind of a primer and paint are suppose to maintain it. Also, if the risers are outside, do you use laminate or melamine?
Good question! As long as you don’t wear shoes in the house, they usually don’t get scuffed. I I am not a painter, but I usually recommend some kind of latex interior paint. Something with a little higher gloss content so dirt stick to us less the risers are melamine.
And kills primer
Expansion ?
Not really a problem when its one piece. Just has to be acclimated.
Nice!
Thanks!
Great. Thanks. God bless

thanks for the video, this was the easiest one to follow
Question- 1. Do you start at the top of stairs or at the bottom ?
2. what size nails to use for finishing nails?
I started the top because I don’t wanna be sitting in my work while I am building the step, and if you start at the bottom, you can easily move a step. Because the glue hasn’t set in. And I use 18 gauge finish nails.
@@ArtisanRenos 1 inch or 2 inch nails?
@@nuttyjobstillsucks 2 inch
