Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
-- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
-- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll

If you're new around here, Venomoth is a Psychic/Flying type, you can't change my mind.
Until you brought it up, I didn't realize Gorebyss was a pun on gorgeous. I just figured the cute fish was somehow hyper violent because I've NEVER seen or heard anything about it after my first time trying it out as a kid.
You were kind of right, it does suck the fluid out of its opponent till it drops dead.
Dude, I hear you about the fosters. We have a sick batch this season as well… but my wife caught the extra scary stuff early enough that no one lost an eye or a limb…
Watching all the time you spent on Mt. Pyre, I wonder if Exploud could save time by using Hidden Power Ghost instead of Shadow Ball. Granted, I don't have the damage ranges in front of me, so maybe it would make a difference against Phoebe or Tate & Liza, but it seems like skipping all that exploration would be worth having to set up an extra Howl or two in some fights. With all that said, you did a great job showing off just how good Exploud can be!
The gyms being monotype is fun in my opinion. It would definitely be cool to have different challenges though. In my playthroughs i almost always used monotype teams. Usually bug or ice and in recent generations they had great second typings. Bug/fire, bug steel, bug/fighting, bug ice... Etc. so you can play using coverage and variety of strategies with the same types. But a "reckless badge" instead of fighting where they use recoil moves or closecombat/self destruct moves. Or stall badge with spikes and recovery would be interesting, but they did have "battle tower/ battle island/ battle subway" endgame things to provide challenges to fill those in some games
The number of attempts, to me, is just another orthogonal metric by which to measure Pokemon. And pokemon that stack up many attempts naturally show the distribution of an "expected" run. So maybe a pokemon CAN get a REALLY good time with luck, but it's a lot different from the median. The number of runs you need to get a good time is a proxy for consistency.
Venomoth Fact #23: While having no idea that it would happen in the future when initially creating the Pokemon, Venomoth does find it amusing how internet debates that start off peaceful often times end with people morphing into a pair of Exploud's facing each other

I think it would be cool if you did an rng manip in one run just to show off how it works (if you even know how to do it/have practiced it). Maybe it could be on some meme run, or on a really bad mon where it'll still be at the bottom of the tier list regardless of how much extra advantage it has
20:10 Are you planning on releasing a copy of your overlay for Yellow Legacy? I’ve been doing some optimization for Pikachu Hardcore Glitchless on the Yellow Legacy Discord, and it has not been easy! I think your overlay could help with a couple different things for the daring challengers. Level cap is 12, so the only way to get through Brock is grinding about 880 encounters for stat exp, and it still requires a ton of resets. You can’t modify Pikachu, so you also have to reset an average of 700 times to get 15 DVs in Attack, Defense, and HP. Thankfully they are ranking based off game-time, so the only thing that affects this challenge is all the grinding you have to do, but doing less grinding make Brock so much harder. Once you defeat Brock, Double Team is legal, so the rest of the run is much more manageable.

I hate the idea of doing away with the gym leader formula, thematic teams are far more interesting to me than the alternative, albeit I think the gym leaders never live up to the potential.
I think there's plenty of room for more variety like status effect trainers elsewhere, be it the E4 / Rocket-substitutes / postgame stuff or some other addition. I think there's plenty they can add to the game without needing to throw out the old gym leader formula to make room.

Don't sweat the odd spout of low productivity, you're a content creator not a machine. Taking breaks as you and your body need them is part of the process.
I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, but this is actually part of why i hate the term content creator! Its so... mechanical! Yes, its true, but scott is also an artist, a producer and a speedrunner.
Oh also your description of specialist gym leaders is basically Radical Red, especially on the harder difficulty. Brock is a Sandstorm specialist, Misty is a Rain specialist Sabrina has Trick Room and so on.
Another thing with attempts is that if you set it high enough that it would be pretty similar to just giving each pokemon enough runs to shine as best it can.
You'd need to do like a million or more runs to get truly broken rng in any run and there is still the chance human error could scupper it.
I havent finished this yet, so im not sure if its relevant for the end game. But, I remember you mentioning on a previous stream thats its usually faster to go hp ghost and skip shadowball. Wondering if that wouldve saved a bit of time here too.
When I first played RSE, i always though loudred was the end of the line. Exploud is so cool though. Im using it for the first time in a vanilla playthrough of emerald right now. My SPs battery is awful though lmao. Otherwise, i hope your cat is okay. My 2 cats send their wishes

Is there any place to request certain runs? I'd like to request Castform for Fire Red and Emerald.
I've been having fun running solo Castform in both games. It has a lot of unique choices with the weather moves changing it's type, as well as about triples Weather Ball's effective base power for water and fire type (100 BP in weather + 50 STAB + 75 BP weather boost for rain and sun = 225 total BP).
I never realized that Weather Ball's base power doubles in weather, but Bulbapedia confirms it. Weather Ball hits like an absolute truck, and it's fun to plan the run with all the move and typing options available to Castform. It also has a good early game moveset with ember, water gun, and powder snow at level 10. It also has a great TM list. Very fun solo Pokemon. I'd love to see you run it
Alas, runs are often planned far in advance, and scott is trying to run mons from their home games first!
Curious Scott, are starter re-rankings happening sometime this year in Emerald? It's 100% cool if not. Also, are you just waiting for the right moment to either burn all the water away/drown the world with Groudon/Kyogre anytime soon? I'm excited to complete the weather trio as they are my favorites.
Obviously i have no behind the scenes knowledge, but he seems to like to keep legendaries for the end of the year! He spoke at some length last year about framing the arc of a year of production as a season of television, with openings, middles and finales. Starter rerankings might be on the table for these emerald rerank streams?
on the topic in the video of specialized gym leaders with less theming and more tech im for that. could introduce it along side the standard 8 theming we already got as a sort of advanced circut with the first one being a more introductory course and perhaps a hybridized one for intermediary. could alow for interesting gym gimmiks too.

69ing is absolutely something straight folk participate in. I don't personally love the joke, but i just think its a little weak. Also, notably, it's moved pretty far away from its origins to literally just be 'funny number' by this point. Or, at least, this is my perspective
I agree with @tsawy6. This joke never felt related to the LGBTQ+ community, just a simple numerical sex joke.
To just got a bit further in the fact that it is still around. Instead of weak the better word would be stale. It’s been a thing on the internet now for so long that it’s become quite tired. Because it’s stale it is a weak joke. As a creator there is a weird line to walk between creativity and the realities of doing business in this space. Making something fresh and new, discarding that which is stale, satisfies the creative side. I’ve found the further I go with my channel the more internal resistance I face when thinking of changing things. I have thought about dropping this joke entirely, and some other recurring gags have been dropped. It might be worth reconsidering. If I do remove it, there will be many who speak up sad that it is no longer present and because it’s a removal I doubt many will speak up saying they are happy it’s gone. This makes the feedback system built into UA-cam flawed. I need to consider that fact more when making creative choices regarding my content.
