Wow Token is an absolute disgrace to the legacy of this game. They as a company and the game itself should be boycotted after this. Streamers should unite and ask people to join them on private servers.
Sylvannas went from one of my favorite characters to one of least in an expansion. Shes so boring now. Too powerful for her own good and too quick to show off for pointless set piece #10. Arthas was pretty cartoonishly evil but they limited our direct combat with him and didn't take every second to show off how cool and powerful he was. That's a well written cartoon style evil bad man.
And he was the main character of 3 of Warcraft 3's campaigns, so he was really well-developed, so Blizzard didn't really need to do much in Wrath to flesh him out.
What they did with Sylvanas is absolutely fucking ridicolous. So we have this ranger general turned to banshee whose character could be described as "relatively weak, but incredibly resourceful." Which was played out pretty well in WarCraft III, and I remember even after so many years that she was incredibly annoying to deal with during the undead campaign and I was so satisfied when Arthas put her to the sword. How she turned into this OP mess is just sad and her burning the tree cinematic is so stupid, you know it, I know it but still have to say it, her rockstar sliding into Frostmourne because shooting arrows is apperently not cool is some real shark jumping bullshit. But the real kicker is that Blizzard decided to retcon her mission in WarCraft III Reforged to it matched the dumb cinematic. That's what we get.
Don't forget that Tyrande, already one of the most powerful characters in the lore, was supercharged to become the literal avatar of a goddess, only to not even be able to stop Sylvannas' henchman. Not Sylvannas, her henchman.

I re-watch this video and others like it on occasion just to remind myself that my frustration with Warcraft is valid and that I'm not insane for believing that getting upset over the way that a franchise that I've grown up with with, becoming the poster child for disappointment is okay... so thank you for that. On the other hand I still play Warcraft for some reason so perhaps I am insane after all...
Very much the same with you on this, but the only Warcraft content I consume is the old stuff - Warcraft 3 ( though Refunded is laggy even to this day ) and Classic Wrath specifically. Retail in all its.. everything is a plague to me I won't touch. It disappointed me year after year when I hoped "Maybe this expansion will be the one to change things." only to find.. more disappointments. As someone who's closely followed ( or wanted to and tried to follow ) the story where it's interested me, it's just gone downhill time after time, so rather than continue setting myself up for disappointments, I'll stick to what I know I enjoy, even if part of it is madness, at least there is a piece of solace in that.
Looking back on this video, I can’t help but think that maybe there never was a DDoS attack at WoD launch, and it was more that Blizzard’s downscaled servers just couldn’t handle the traffic that came with people being actually excited for an expansion for once in a decade.

Thus he was unable to use any of his Frost DK abilities besides auto attack, remorseless winter, and basic spells as we saw in the cinematic because Frost DK abilities require a one-handed weapon. By the time the moron realized his mistake, he had already entered combat.
I don't even see why sylvanas beating Bolvar is a big deal tbh. You can not compare Bolvars strength to Arthas strength alone the fact that Bolvar doesn't have Frostmourne at his hands ....

Sylvanas is not Garrosh 2.0 and vanilla is a horribly unbalanced, horribly designed and horribly unplayable game. The story writing in WoW was already fanfiction material and bad, but I'm glad to see that it got even worse. So many good characters killed off, so many plotpoints wasted, so many unfinished threads... I really shouldn't have spent as much time with this mess of a game, but oh well. Kids will be kids. >_>

I really enjoyed classic but the 1 thing that made me feel exhausted af was the fact that: Despite raids being piss easy, being completed with fewer than the maximum amount of players allowed: People *STILL WANT* you to get all the 90 different potions, elixirs, foods etc etc. And i'm not a guy to spend hours upon hours to grind gold just to complete a raid that could've been done without any buffs. I already cleared MC very quick upon reaching 60 and the only buff i had was fire resist (Potion).
Maybe the raids are piss easy because Blizz didn't expect everyone to have pre-raid BiS lists and knowledge of all the best consumables and enchants for their classes.

Oh, and I actually loved Pandaria for the most part. It got surprisingly dark at times, and the raid bosses were (mostly) very challenging and fun and unique. The daily grinds... were not good, though. And the PvP was pretty bad. But overall... it was pretty good. Draenor? Well, it had some highlights. But unfortunately those highlights were not enough to keep my attention for very long. And all that cut content was a bit of a cheek, frankly. Blizzard was making more money then ever before, yet they seemed to lay off so much staff that they just couldn't produce content fast enough. And the Garrisons should have been less important, to say the least. Weirdly, the biggest gut punch for me was the lack of the big faction cities we were promised. I thought Bladespire Citadel (I think it was called that?) looked awesome. As for all the microtransactions... I never touched them. The level boost didn't bother me "too much" - after all, it just lets you skip old content in order to catch up. But the price gouging was too much. And then the WoW Token... Yeah, no. No. That's selling Gold - something Blizzard banned people for in the past. It should never have happened.

I mean look, 2008 was the year Wrath of the Lich King was released. It was also the year where Activision and Blizzard merged, and everything started going to shit.
Wrath was terrible. Objectively bad. They had the largest advertising campaign in human history at that point, THE LARGEST ON EARTH. They spent more money, they expanded to more countries, they splurged on massive names for commercials... to.. stagnantly kinda loiter around the same sub count that BC had built organically with almost no advertising by comparison. And my friends list doesnt lie. They lost subs by the fucking truckload in Wrath. They said it themself at the time, they wanted a "more casual audience" for Wrath.. they got it. And most of the hardcore fans left. I had a full friends list, I regularly PvPd with over 200 players up to BC's end. Half way through wrath I had a grayed out, completely empty friends list. No one was left. Every fucking person Id played with for the past 6-24 months was GONE. Because it wasnt a good game. It had a terrible launch tier, Ulduar was good but who cares when they dont KEEP making it good and the PvP was straight up hot fucking garbage. Legendaries absolutely trainwrecked competitive even worse than the Hero Class did. I remember getting into a WSG as the only death knight in the match, somehow. I 1v10 camped the enemy team in their GY while holding their flag while my team BEGGED me to end it by capping until the entire enemy team simply walked out of their GY in spirit form and refused to keep rezing. I ended the match will well over 50 kills and no deaths. That was the 'balance' of the HERO CLASS. Dogshit expansion propped up by a beloved villain character and a company that, until Wrath launched, had not made ONE gross error, not released one bad product in over two decades.

I chalk it up to Northrend being on the same physical planet but being just as separated from Azeroth as Outlands. Everything fell apart after they added looking for dungeon. They had submitted to the mass appeal at that moment and it was over. Wrath may very well be the best/most popular expansion but it is also the expansion that killed WoW's original spirit. After Arthas was gone the storylines from WC3 were all tied up so they turned to some contrived shit and ruined Azeroth for basically no reason since everyone just qued in the dungeon finder anyway. Not to mention how weak of a raid Dragon Soul was compared to all the raids before it. If WoW had a chance to recover its original feel it died with Deathwing. It was so shitty and they still nerfed it 30% because they built it with broken mechanics. Fuck Madness. Worst end raid boss of all time forever.

@MrDiaboIo 5.4 / Siege of Org. was probably one of the greatest patches of all time. The class balance wasn't anything like you described, in fact it was the opposite. Every class was good and performance was the determining factor for how well you did. 5.4 was the last time period before they started dumbing classes down.

I'm okay with like 99% of what he said, but, c'mon, MOP was a amazing expansion. Having one of the best raid too Throne of Thunder, and the whole development before the raid was neat too. The only downside of this expansion was how they vilained-bat Garrosh :(.
I remember playing it, I remember back when they first talked about the quest, it's WHY I stopped playing the game. Originally the 'Legendary' was supposed to be a Class Specific weapon, not one of 4 generic fuck off cloaks. However they realized that balancing the game with that many legendaries 'handed out' would be fucking HARD, especially once players got their hands on them and learned all their little tricks and min/max, gem combos' etc. So they backpedaled HARD, claimed that it was never STATED it was going to be a Weapon, and literally BANNED anyone on the forums who posted links or the original Blue Text's that stated the truth. I got banned for inconveniencing them and trying to rally others to ditch the game if they couldn't be fucking honest, never went back.

Entire azeroth is suddenly covered with Sargeras' gigantic poop and there's suffering everywhere and the 'champions' are sent to help. They give us an excellent (convincing to anyone not serious about lore) reason for why this happened and the visuals are great! There are poop dailies, various feces and dung bosses and all the works! The quests have excellent 'narrative', the boss mechanics are out of this world and rewards seem extremely satisfying. How would you feel about the expansion?

Blizzard wasn't much better than activision at all in the end. They just had a fanbase that still thought they were as they were in the beggining until it was too much.

The saddest part is that they don't care about money in general so much as they care about money now, this moment and screw the long-term effects. Sure activision might have played a roll in all this or they may not but several years of trying to please the hardcores and the casuals also had its toll on the game its hard to know how sucessful classic really is witouth numbers and as he said in the video and we all knew for several years they dont announce those numbers anymore also 99% of all people dont really know what they want until they get it no game is perfect for everyone and blizzard royaly fucked up by trying to please the entire fan base make the hardcore ppl happy with hard content then the casuals will complain make the content to easy then the hardcore will leave the sad part is the hardcore scene been dead for a very long time and they are the loyal ppl not the casuals. the thing that piss me off the most about todays blizzard is their total lack of quality control to many buggs to many internal voices which leads to controversies and weird design choices they dont seem to know who they even are at the moment

Engines get upgraded over time. But yes, their game is extremely bloated and the way they've made the engine can barely support what theyre trying to do. Large scale world pvp is a good example, the game just becomes unplayable.
Sequel or another MMO will be super crap too, because activision is on boat. Blizz became too large, too AAA to make content with heart and soul. Its over, just accept it boys and move on. There are lots of games out there.

@William Black They look at LFR and think the game boils down to that. Real hardcore is having to walk halfway across the barrens just to pick up your corpse when you died at the goblin mines. Hardcore is having to leg it across the terrain just to save your silver for training. Hardcore is having sixteen versions of the same spell in your spellbook, and sometimes needing it because you need to save mana efficiently. Hardcore is not having nuanced gameplay that goes beyond assigning your +.5% to the correct abilities.
12:26 Blizzard's doing this with everything lately. Previously, when they announced a release date - it would be the midnight of that day in Europe. So, in Americas, you'd play few hours before that day. Starting with Warcraft 3 Reforged - it was the midnight before the next day. So, in Asia, you'd not play until a few hours AFTER that day. Also, there was recently a piece of homepage news encouraging players to try out the new player experience in Shadowlands... except that they made it available only to streamers. As for the "Classic summer" - everyone would think that it would release somewhere in the beginning, so they'd play Classic throughout the summer. Instead - they released it at the very end, so it was Classic summer next year in Australia. And other such Maximum Disappointment Possible stuff.
this makes me feel really sad because i just got into world of warcraft at the very end of legion because my friends who have been playing it since release finally got me to play it. I fell in love with the story and all the locations are beautiful. i still go after old weapon quest just for the transmogs and as of right now i am still working on quel'dalar, shadowmourne, and sulfuras. i really hope shadowlands is ok. all the covenants and zones look fucking amazing
I played from release of vanilla till midway through cataclysm, I remember before I quit blizzard saying they would be making content larger and faster,releasing an expansion every year lol, it looks like they got slower, so sad to see a great game turn to trash.
Remember that time they built up the last remaining Old God on Azeroth for almost a decade and how horrible the return of Black Empire under their rule would be, and then pointed a titan laser pointer at him, wiping the Old Gods out forever in a single patch? Yeah, that was pretty disappointing.
I remember being forced to take a break from WoW after Legion. I had to sit on the side lines and watch as awesome content like Worgens come out and such. Then I finally got time and got the Warlords expansion and it came with a boost. I used it and... I just couldn't keep playing. I had nothing to do.
Yeah i really dont get it. Sylvanas was one of my favourite characters in wc3, and honestly her slaying the lich king would be kind of a cool end to her arc. But adding another layer of "my dad could beat up your dad" (the lich kings dad being sageras. Or was it KJ, whos dad was sageras? I really dont know anymore) by introducing another badder baddie which struck a deal with her... Its just yugioh levels of subverting expectations.

MoP was one of the best expacs, can't change my mind. Class design was exceptional, raids were all well done, no titanforging (there was warforging, but it was a single stage and far more manageable.)
I won't try to change your mind because I also liked MoP, but to play devil's advocate I always sympathized with the people who got into wow for its aesthetic. You go from a medieval fantasy to the the mystical orient, for three years, and I could imagine it to be disappointing, especially if you generally dislike oriental settings. It was a weird left turn to shift the plot and direction of the game to kung fu theater, which is a fair criticism. Like I said, I loved it though.

MoP wasn't Warcraft... it was Pandas. Its supposed to be a different game and not called Warcraft because it had 0 essence of the Warcraft. And no, class design wasnt exceptional, it was far from it - but we can argue on this endlessly. However, you can't argue that whole expansion was out of the line with story line, characters, ambience, design, new class and race...
Whenever I return to Pandaria I always get in a good mood and have a blast. And yes, pandas are great, racial traits are to die for, their moral values (family, friends, food) are superior, and whoever yells loudest about furries is most likely a closeted furry themselves.
Now I love sly but they really went way over the top with her recently. She really did become like arthas on his way to rezing Kel'thuzad and becoming lich king but even grizzlyer and so overpowered for absolutely no reason. I pray the jailer is actually arthas so he can actually put her back in her miserable place.

Sylvannas went from one of my favorite characters to one of least in an expansion. Shes so boring now. Too powerful for her own good and too quick to show off for pointless set piece #10. Arthas was pretty cartoonishly evil but they limited our direct combat with him and didn't take every second to show off how cool and powerful he was. That's a well written cartoon style evil bad man.
And he was the main character of 3 of Warcraft 3's campaigns, so he was really well-developed, so Blizzard didn't really need to do much in Wrath to flesh him out.

What they did with Sylvanas is absolutely fucking ridicolous. So we have this ranger general turned to banshee whose character could be described as "relatively weak, but incredibly resourceful." Which was played out pretty well in WarCraft III, and I remember even after so many years that she was incredibly annoying to deal with during the undead campaign and I was so satisfied when Arthas put her to the sword. How she turned into this OP mess is just sad and her burning the tree cinematic is so stupid, you know it, I know it but still have to say it, her rockstar sliding into Frostmourne because shooting arrows is apperently not cool is some real shark jumping bullshit. But the real kicker is that Blizzard decided to retcon her mission in WarCraft III Reforged to it matched the dumb cinematic.
That's what we get.
Don't forget that Tyrande, already one of the most powerful characters in the lore, was supercharged to become the literal avatar of a goddess, only to not even be able to stop Sylvannas' henchman. Not Sylvannas, her henchman.

Very much the same with you on this, but the only Warcraft content I consume is the old stuff - Warcraft 3 ( though Refunded is laggy even to this day ) and Classic Wrath specifically. Retail in all its.. everything is a plague to me I won't touch. It disappointed me year after year when I hoped "Maybe this expansion will be the one to change things." only to find.. more disappointments.
As someone who's closely followed ( or wanted to and tried to follow ) the story where it's interested me, it's just gone downhill time after time, so rather than continue setting myself up for disappointments, I'll stick to what I know I enjoy, even if part of it is madness, at least there is a piece of solace in that.

The moron swapped from his Blood DK spec (red) to a Frost DK (blue) spec with a 2-handed mace.. Thus he was unable to use any of his Frost DK abilities besides auto attack, remorseless winter, and basic spells as we saw in the cinematic because Frost DK abilities require a one-handed weapon. By the time the moron realized his mistake, he had already entered combat.

The story writing in WoW was already fanfiction material and bad, but I'm glad to see that it got even worse. I really enjoyed classic but the 1 thing that made me feel exhausted af was the fact that:
Despite raids being piss easy, being completed with fewer than the maximum amount of players allowed: People *STILL WANT* you to get all the 90 different potions, elixirs, foods etc etc.
And i'm not a guy to spend hours upon hours to grind gold just to complete a raid that could've been done without any buffs.
I already cleared MC very quick upon reaching 60 and the only buff i had was fire resist (Potion).

Oh, and I actually loved Pandaria for the most part. It got surprisingly dark at times, and the raid bosses were (mostly) very challenging and fun and unique. The daily grinds... were not good, though. And the PvP was pretty bad. But overall... it was pretty good.
Draenor? Well, it had some highlights. But unfortunately those highlights were not enough to keep my attention for very long. And all that cut content was a bit of a cheek, frankly. Blizzard was making more money then ever before, yet they seemed to lay off so much staff that they just couldn't produce content fast enough. And the Garrisons should have been less important, to say the least. Weirdly, the biggest gut punch for me was the lack of the big faction cities we were promised. I thought Bladespire Citadel (I think it was called that?) looked awesome.
As for all the microtransactions... I never touched them. The level boost didn't bother me "too much" - after all, it just lets you skip old content in order to catch up. But the price gouging was too much. And then the WoW Token... Yeah, no. No. That's selling Gold - something Blizzard banned people for in the past. It should never have happened.

It was also the year where Activision and Blizzard merged, and everything started going to shit.
Wrath was terrible. Objectively bad. They had the largest advertising campaign in human history at that point, THE LARGEST ON EARTH. They spent more money, they expanded to more countries, they splurged on massive names for commercials... to.. stagnantly kinda loiter around the same sub count that BC had built organically with almost no advertising by comparison.
And my friends list doesnt lie. They lost subs by the fucking truckload in Wrath. They said it themself at the time, they wanted a "more casual audience" for Wrath.. they got it. And most of the hardcore fans left. I had a full friends list, I regularly PvPd with over 200 players up to BC's end. Half way through wrath I had a grayed out, completely empty friends list. No one was left. Every fucking person Id played with for the past 6-24 months was GONE. Because it wasnt a good game. It had a terrible launch tier, Ulduar was good but who cares when they dont KEEP making it good and the PvP was straight up hot fucking garbage. Legendaries absolutely trainwrecked competitive even worse than the Hero Class did.
I remember getting into a WSG as the only death knight in the match, somehow. I 1v10 camped the enemy team in their GY while holding their flag while my team BEGGED me to end it by capping until the entire enemy team simply walked out of their GY in spirit form and refused to keep rezing. I ended the match will well over 50 kills and no deaths. That was the 'balance' of the HERO CLASS.
Dogshit expansion propped up by a beloved villain character and a company that, until Wrath launched, had not made ONE gross error, not released one bad product in over two decades.

I chalk it up to Northrend being on the same physical planet but being just as separated from Azeroth as Outlands.
Everything fell apart after they added looking for dungeon. They had submitted to the mass appeal at that moment and it was over. Wrath may very well be the best/most popular expansion but it is also the expansion that killed WoW's original spirit.
After Arthas was gone the storylines from WC3 were all tied up so they turned to some contrived shit and ruined Azeroth for basically no reason since everyone just qued in the dungeon finder anyway. Not to mention how weak of a raid Dragon Soul was compared to all the raids before it. If WoW had a chance to recover its original feel it died with Deathwing. It was so shitty and they still nerfed it 30% because they built it with broken mechanics.
Fuck Madness. Worst end raid boss of all time forever.

@MrDiaboIo 5.4 / Siege of Org. was probably one of the greatest patches of all time. The class balance wasn't anything like you described, in fact it was the opposite. Every class was good and performance was the determining factor for how well you did. 5.4 was the last time period before they started dumbing classes down.

DId you ever play the legendary cloak chain in MoP? It's literally the best narrative we have had in wow. MoP was about War, not pandas.
I didn’t get a chance at the time, and now I never can because they removed the entire quest line for some reason.
I remember playing it, I remember back when they first talked about the quest, it's WHY I stopped playing the game. Originally the 'Legendary' was supposed to be a Class Specific weapon, not one of 4 generic fuck off cloaks. However they realized that balancing the game with that many legendaries 'handed out' would be fucking HARD, especially once players got their hands on them and learned all their little tricks and min/max, gem combos' etc. So they backpedaled HARD, claimed that it was never STATED it was going to be a Weapon, and literally BANNED anyone on the forums who posted links or the original Blue Text's that stated the truth. I got banned for inconveniencing them and trying to rally others to ditch the game if they couldn't be fucking honest, never went back.
I don't know why MoP is so hated, I thought it was one of their best expansions.

Entire azeroth is suddenly covered with Sargeras' gigantic poop and there's suffering everywhere and the 'champions' are sent to help. They give us an excellent (convincing to anyone not serious about lore) reason for why this happened and the visuals are great! There are poop dailies, various feces and dung bosses and all the works! The quests have excellent 'narrative', the boss mechanics are out of this world and rewards seem extremely satisfying. How would you feel about the expansion?

The saddest part is that they don't care about money in general so much as they care about money now, this moment and screw the long-term effects. Sure activision might have played a roll in all this or they may not but several years of trying to please the hardcores and the casuals also had its toll on the game its hard to know how sucessful classic really is witouth numbers and as he said in the video and we all knew for several years they dont announce those numbers anymore also 99% of all people dont really know what they want until they get it no game is perfect for everyone and blizzard royaly fucked up by trying to please the entire fan base make the hardcore ppl happy with hard content then the casuals will complain make the content to easy then the hardcore will leave the sad part is the hardcore scene been dead for a very long time and they are the loyal ppl not the casuals.

Engines get upgraded over time. But yes, their game is extremely bloated and the way they've made the engine can barely support what theyre trying to do. Large scale world pvp is a good example, the game just becomes unplayable.

Sequel or another MMO will be super crap too, because activision is on boat. Blizz became too large, too AAA to make content with heart and soul. Its over, just accept it boys and move on. There are lots of games out there.

@William Black They look at LFR and think the game boils down to that. Real hardcore is having to walk halfway across the barrens just to pick up your corpse when you died at the goblin mines. Hardcore is having to leg it across the terrain just to save your silver for training. Hardcore is having sixteen versions of the same spell in your spellbook, and sometimes needing it because you need to save mana efficiently. Hardcore is not having nuanced gameplay that goes beyond assigning your +.5% to the correct abilities.

So, in Americas, you'd play few hours before that day. Starting with Warcraft 3 Reforged - it was the midnight before the next day. So, in Asia, you'd not play until a few hours AFTER that day.
Also, there was recently a piece of homepage news encouraging players to try out the new player experience in Shadowlands... except that they made it available only to streamers.
As for the "Classic summer" - everyone would think that it would release somewhere in the beginning, so they'd play Classic throughout the summer. Instead - they released it at the very end, so it was Classic summer next year in Australia.

I fell in love with the story and all the locations are beautiful. i still go after old weapon quest just for the transmogs and as of right now i am still working on quel'dalar, shadowmourne, and sulfuras. i really hope shadowlands is ok. all the covenants and zones look fucking amazing

MoP was one of the best expacs, can't change my mind.
Class design was exceptional, raids were all well done, no titanforging (there was warforging, but it was a single stage and far more manageable.)

I won't try to change your mind because I also liked MoP, but to play devil's advocate I always sympathized with the people who got into wow for its aesthetic. You go from a medieval fantasy to the the mystical orient, for three years, and I could imagine it to be disappointing, especially if you generally dislike oriental settings. It was a weird left turn to shift the plot and direction of the game to kung fu theater, which is a fair criticism. Like I said, I loved it though.
I felt like the dailies weren't to much, and quite frankly they hadn't changed to much since bc by then. Now they call them world quests. Same thing, but a new term coined for it.
MoP wasn't Warcraft... it was Pandas. Its supposed to be a different game and not called Warcraft because it had 0 essence of the Warcraft. And no, class design wasnt exceptional, it was far from it - but we can argue on this endlessly. However, you can't argue that whole expansion was out of the line with story line, characters, ambience, design, new class and race...
