I agree with the critiques. I also agree that the FType’s performance overshadows the imperfections. This is how Jaguar can offer near “supercar” beauty, performance and theater for a much lower cost. Great video!
Hi Mark good video on my 2016 Type R I found on the Jaguar forums a quick easy way to disconnect the stop start button There is a plug in the trunk under the cover on the right side. It disables the stop start feature. Works perfectly Also the hood you have to close it from the front using both hands not from one side. Doesn't always latch properly and messes up the panel gaps. Luckily I have no issues with panel gap I find the subwoofer and the so called premium stereo a joke. My Honda CRV and Ridgeline sound better without rattles.
I agree the stereo in these cars is a joke and only better than my Lamborghini stereo which is even worse. must be something to do with cars that have amazing exhaust noises. thanks.
Just bought my wife a new Jaguar E-Pace a month ago and she absolutely loves it but the Start/Stop is just annoying. The car has a lot of safety features that she can't turn off either which is great but again annoying. The F-Type is an amazing car though. I am in the market for a sports car for myself and narrowed it down to 3 cars all in the same price range. 2021 Jaguar F-Type, 2021 C8 Corvette, and 2021 Lexus LC500. It is going to be my daily driver. Ruled out the C8 Corvette so it came down to the Jag and the Lexus. Between the 2 cars I decided to go with the Lexus LC500 as I felt it is giving me the sports car plus the luxury as a daily driver. Not to take anything away from the F-Type but I just felt Jaguar didn't do enough of a make over or redesign from the first generation to the 2021 model. I do like the new grill and headlights but that's about it. On top of that the Lexus LC500 is not something you see on the road compared to the F-Type and I was wanting to get something different. Glad to see that you are happy with your F-Type and are enjoying it. Take care.
thanks a lot and you have great choice in cars. any one of those 3 cars would be a great choice and congrats on your new car. I think the LC500 is wonderful and would be my Lexus car of choice too. with that said, I absolutely love my F Type with the looks, sound, and speed. have a great one.
I've got the RWD V8. these are minor points and really subjective. Comparing it to a 911 Porsche - well (and I know I'm going to make enemies), the F Type blows the 911 out the water in terms of beauty alone. The hood panels - Jaguar did a good job all things considered in getting 3 separate pieces to line up. Visibility I find is not bad at all and rear visibility on the sides to check the blindspot is better than I had expected. Thanks for the tip on the glass - I'm gonna check if this applies to my region
Awesome comment and I agree, these cars are a thing of beauty for sure, and it really is saying something choosing one over a 911 because the Porsche is great. The F Type is nothing short of amazing.
Great video Mark. I don't own one but I am seriously considering buying one. You mentioned the windshield. If a person has windshield replacement in there insurance, surely the dealer will accept the insurance money, instead of 2 grand coming out of my pocket? Just asking.
Yes I am working with them right now and they coordinate the fix with the independent glass shop but Jag sends them the factory glass. If you have insurance, then it sounds like you pay the deductable and the glass shop bills your insurance company direct. I am just going into this process right now.
Excellent observation and critique Mark! I love the Jaguar F type look and drive, but you made some very valid points -- in fact, I would say that you being too kind! Thanks for your overview!
Thanks John. Absolutely, it is a very costly windshield and is worth it especially when living in a place like Edmonton where the city throws liberal amounts of rocks and gravel on the road during fall and winter seasons.
I understand that these items are frustrating. I keep the "shutoff" feature off on my BMW, due to potential wear and tear concerns. But, clearly, the car overshadows many of the potential matters. Any feedback from the Jag blogs?
Many Thanks, recently brought a XJS V12 1989 with only 27,000 km on the clock!! Just looking at it makes me smile!! I think I need to get out more!! 😜😜 Peace From London. 🙏🙏
Thanks for the very comprehensive review! I press the exact same buttons when starting my F-Type R - the automatic start/stop and the active exhaust buttons. I appreciate the reason for the start/system but just not a fan of it at all. I've had several F-Types now and only one had the uneven gap issues you pointed out on your car - the others have been quite good. Love the car! I drive it year-round in Toronto and up to Georgian Bay on snow tires in the winter and the car is a tank - no issues at all in the snow!
Hi Mark, Again, a great piece of information and advice in this video, and, I would say your concerns about moving parts is right, they add to the things that may fail at a time or another. Regarding the mirrors, I read in the iGuide that the dealer can disable them in order to keep them open...
Comment on the hood, a lot of semi trucks have that issue which comes from people open it from one side and not centre. Love the car looking to buy one next spring
It a shame the British have never been great on finish eg Aston, maclaren.apparently if you pay extra for deluxe assembly for maclaren they make sure everything is done right!! What a joke😆
Have a Range Rover sport and have similar observations on some fit and finish items. Most noticeable is the seam between the bumper and fender isnt even (the bumper is a couple mm higher in a few spots instead of flush). Coming from a string of Bmws it bothers me a little but, surprisingly, this car has no squeaks or rattles whereas all my Bmws did. British character as you mentioned. My car has the new Lower touch screen with the integrated climate dials which i suppose addresses the readability concern, but they are mounted lower which creates its own ergonomic challenges. Overall I think I prefer the controls in your car- they feel nicer too. JLR makes some great looking and driving vehicles with some very nice materials which i suppose serves to highlight some of these gaffes.
100% these cars are very interesting and nice to drive. I see some of the anomolies as a. bit of the character. The German cars feel perfectly put together but I know some of the coolest cars I have experienced are Lamborghini Contact, Diablo, Ferrari 308, 355,458, and others that just seem to have fitment issues however still are amazing because pf their "humans put this together feeling".
Very true. Oh one thing I forgot to mention is that my auto start stop system is excellent. First car where I don’t immediately disable it. Has the new jlr inline 6 with the mild hybrid systrm which allows it to start/stop instantly and smoothly. So there’s hope for these systems! Surprised jlr managed to pull it off this well.
Hi I have 2017 SVR ,I have the same problem with hood, when closing some area have gap is not level very well I toke to jaguar they told me after 2 days checking they told me unfortunately we couldn't do anything design like this, and also my car have carbon ceramic break making a lot of noise I have bumper to bumper warranty, but they didn't change they repaired but still noisy but not the same as before batter, I had too many sport cars such as corvette c7 z06 but I believe this car much faster and smoother than corvette and camaro zl1 1le
@@markholubetz I have a question did you check racechip.com? They made a chip make 76hp more to Ftype do you think is make damage to engine? Or no? And how make only with this chip 76hp!
Great report again Mark, regarding the gaps that change from time to time, have you tried standing in front of the clam shell and push close with both hands it definitely makes a difference. Agree about the stop start, I did read somewhere that it is easy to get it turned off permanently I shall try and dig it out. You missed the main point about why are these cars so bloody noisy. Keep em coning mate.
The color contrast must be at least 4.51:1 (Foreground color:Background color). I wonder why over 95% products in the market are not following the proper standards of design, esp. for the people with visual impairment. And even I would guess that more than 50% of the human population have imperfect vision (for eg. difficulty in distinguishing different shades of the same color).
true. glass coverage is a must on these cars. lots of pricey panels. a friend of mine had an F Pace top panoramic glass fail by rock and it cost him 7 grand to replace out of pocket.
Hi Joseph, I had mixed reviews. Firstly I was running the original summer slicks which are not good other than we got lucky and had a dry winter so generally winter rubber is a MUST have before hitting the winter roads and then also my windows froze up several times where it felt hard on the doors/window/runner to rip it open. There must be a better solution. Outside of this, the car started well every time, the heated steering wheel, seats and heater were nice for winter so its definitely a decent car with the all wheel drive.
Hey mark... your issue about the automatic being in a higher gear or shifting to a higher gear when it shouldn't is exactly what im experiencing on my 2016 R. My 2017 lease was not like that... i never had to touch the paddles. I don't know why some of these cars are inconsistent. Some speculated its a learned behavior on the ECU. I was hoping to wipe it but it seems like that isnt really the case. Was curious if you had come across any workarounds. Jag says it is what it is. :/
Thanks, yes I don't think they have that franchise here in Canada. With that said maybe now there have been some products like this made available here too. Do those guys also calibrate the driving sensors in the glass?
Yes that 'stop start' system sucks, how much gas will you be saving at idle for a 1 minute light? Imagine when you will need a starter or flywheel much earlier due to constant engagements==$$$$$$$. When i pull to a light and the car next to me shuts off then a minute later starts i laugh--i think that can be disabled?
Stop Start is there to keep the tree huggers quiet. It actually uses MORE fuel as it requires more to start/restart an engine than it does to keep it ticking over for a few minuets.
