Great review! I took the plunge and bought a 2016 F Type R w/ just over 20k miles on the clock -- took delivery of it on Thursday of last week. My wife is still trying to remove my perma-grin and needs to come get me from staring at it and sneaking peeks of it in our garage. Going wide-open-throttle in an awd vehicle with this kind of power and the absolutely diabolical exhaust note is truly an experience every car guy/gal should get to experience. We've had kind of crap weather so I've only taken it out a handful of times. It still has a California license plate on it which is kind of frowned upon in these areas. I'm getting the title tomorrow so then I can do the registration here. Then with some better weather I'll really let her stretch her legs on the wide open roads in farmland. Truly a dream car for me. Thanks for the info and advice!
Nice! Congrats on the new car. As you see, they are awesome machines in virtually every way, triple threat, the look, the sound, and the go. What sort of spec did you get and color?
@@markholubetz Thanks Mark! AWD supercharged V8. It's pretty much all black, inside and out. No chrome / silver trim. It has the "upgraded" Meridian sound system, but to be honest it's very underwhelming. I'm not sure if I need to find and tweak the equalizer (if one exists) or if the previous owners abused it and/or blew some speakers or what's going on there. The bass is nearly non-existent which is a head-scratcher at this level, not that I'm going to be bumping or blasting music at my age (43). It's got the "vision" package and I believe all the other extras -- the backup camera and collision detection are nice, and pretty much must-haves on any vehicle these days. The auto stop / start got annoying within the first 10 minutes of driving it; it's way too aggressive imo, but not a problem in sport/dynamic mode. I'm still feeling my way around it. The read-end and exhaust are what sold me, but I'm falling in love with the rest of the car. I may do a pully upgrade and modest tune at some point, but I'll keep it otherwise unmolested to keep resale up. Anyway, consider me a fan. Keep up the awesome vids!
I disconnected the auto stop/start a few days after getting my 2017 last July. I hated that feature. The disconnect is simple and reversible. I found the instructions on one of the jag forums. Great video, Mark.
My wife has an E-Pace Jaguar. I do love it, so comfortable to drive. The moment of changing my BMW X1 came and a couple of weeks ago I bought the F-Type. I am charmed with this car. It is a sport one, however also as comfortable as others to do a trip. I feel a lot of nice sensations. The aesthetic is amazing, every angle of the car is beautiful. So good your videos about this car, thanks
@@markholubetz I do agree. I have never expected before to own a sport car such as the F-Type. Sensations are really amazing from the first moment we seat down inside and grasp the wheel. It is like an energy running in my body. Actually there aren´t many F-Types here in Spain. People prefer to buy other sport brands such as Porsche, Mercedes and BMW. My neighbour has a 911, 380cv, the engine and sport sensations are brutal. However, I am totally delighted with the Jag, much more comfortable, especially when doing a long distance trip. As my neighbour said, it can´t be prettier. As you said in a video I am just watching, "it is not for posing"
I have a 2015 , and it’s very simple to bypass the engine auto-shutoff. Simply disconnect the smaller battery (in the trunk there is a full size and 1/4 size battery). The car detects that the small battery (which is used to restart at stop lights) is dead, and so disables the auto shutoff. Had it this way for 2 1/2 years with absolutely no issues. It didn’t even throw a code about the battery.
Hi Mark. Excellent points on ownership, and expectations of service. With the current state of shortages in the world, I would hesitate to take any machine in for service or updates unless absolutely necessary. As far as mileage, a couple years ago we took a 2,000 mile drive thru the mountains to BC wine country and back to the prairies with our 18 R coupe. Average was 9 litres/100 km (31.2mpg) Canadian gallon. Awesome and not babied. Finally took it out for a drive to town last week. OMG I forgot how much power it has. Just spreading the joy in this bleak time. So many smiles and thumbs up from everyone. Biggest grin was on my face though. What a car!!
Thanks Randal, you are right about how great these cars are and they almost spoil us because a person goes and drives something else, and it’s inevitable to be slower than this. Great point too on the trip and I may do a BC run this summer too for fun and sanity as we likely won’t be able to go south yet for awhile. Have a great one.
Thanks a lot Clive, yes I thought I would try to be as unbiased as possible but in reality these cars are so good it’s hard not to be biased in favour of an F Type
Hi Mark, I sold my M6 and got the 2017 F-Type R....I take delivery this Thursday. It only has 21k miles and its certified! I also got 4 years of warranty! Can't wait to get it home! Thanks for your awesome videos! Keep up the great work!
Very nice! I know you will enjoy it as it delivers a bit more in character even though the M5 and M6 cars are great, these F Types are awesome and the next step is a big one.
Great video! I own an R convertible and I have found that it is a sheer joy to drive and to own. I think it has a timeless design similar to it's forbearer, the E-Type. Classic lines and overall styling. I grew up with American muscle cars and always loved foreign sports cars. The F-Type is a perfect balance of American Muscle and European styling. Front engine V8 and english styling. For me its perfect!
I totally agree James and thanks for sharing. The F type is so charming and an utter delight. Again, not cheap, but for the dollar, nothing really better IMHO.
Another really helpful review Mark, good to see your still enjoying it after your first year. Just a couple of points, firstly on the loss of some of your dash data etc, had this happen to me 3 times now and the fix is as simple as disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnect, all done. Secondly -30 is something we do not get over here in Blighty but when it is winter I always use the app to start and pre warm the car, windows work perfectly. Had mine now for 4 years and still it makes me grin every time I drive it, hopefully we will have these cars for a few years yet.
Mark , great review ,I watched with baited breath to see if there was any serious negatives with the Jag. As I am now the proud owner of a 2019 F type R V8 convertible . Anybody buying one i would strongly recommend the extended warranty , pricey but I think worth every penny 😉. Cheers !
Great choice Chris. These cars are so great and every drive is a wonderful experience. Warranty? I agree, it’s not perfect but it gives a bit of a piece of mind for awhile.
There are four hand-adjustable hood alignment stops. The front bumper has two adjustment bolts on each side, underneath where it buts against the hood. With those 8 bolts you can get the gaps even. You can also remove and shim the bolts under the front edge of the hood to make the surfaces flush.
Haha it's funny because my XFR's Stop/Start/Eco just stopped working till this day and I couldn't be happier. To me it's a VERY annoying feature to have on a 5.0 V8 supercharged car. Great video again thank you
Mark, arriving tomorrow is my newly purchased 2018 F-type R and I’m very excited. I have learned quite a bit from your videos and I appreciate the time you spend making them. I’m familiar with the way some things work, I would think that the simms card is proprietary to the car, it will only work with F-types which is why it takes long to get one.
Oh, that brake pedal squeak. My 2017 has it too. I thought it was just the sole of my shoe squeaking against the pedal, until I saw your video. When I got out of the car i pressed the pedal with my hand and confirmed it. I’m going to try fixing myself before I go to the dealer.
the great thing about these cars is the depreciation, one of the highest in the industry. makes them affordable very quickly. i'm looking at a 2017, under 40K miles for only 53K US.
The car may depreciate but maintenance costs remain high. That’s why people always say make sure you have warranty with used or off lease higher end vehicles.
You are the first youtuber I have watched realize the Sun visors may be small comparing to other cars but if they were bigger you would not be able to see out past them 👍🤦♂️
I’ve just bought the V6 380bhp AWD in santorini black with black allloys. Stunning car. I did consider the 5ltr but thought it might be a bit too mean on the neighbours.
Great car and sounds like a serious spec. The V6 still has solid performance and the sound is still great so for the way most people drive, this is way more than enough. Congrats.
Just discovered your channel here a few days ago (got here from SKRRT Garage). I know this is an older upload so you may not see this comment but I had the same thing happen with my Auto Start/Stop. It worked but only if you really depressed the brake pedal hard, normal braking around town did not activate the system. However, the factoy battery finally failed just last week and with a fresh new battery, the auto start/stop is working again! Not sure if this was a voltage issue from the old battery or if disconnecting the batter reset the system (suspect the latter) . As a side note, getting ready to install the Velociy AP lower pulley and tune, that should be fun....
Awesome! Welcome to the channel and I have seen a few of his videos as well, its too bad he sold the Jag but either ways some fun content there. I may just have to try the battery disconnect idea first because my car does not feel that it cranks slowly or is weak in any way. How were you planning to do the upgrade? Yourself or a shop nearby? That should be fun either way and I would love to hear your impressions once its done. Have a great one.
@@markholubetz I am going to do the upgrade myself. I restore cars and build hot rods so this upgrade appears simple enough in comaprison to most of the stuff I do. Access to the belt looks like a major pain and I have heard the one supplied is often too short? Yeah, may car was starting fine, no slow cranking or any other problem and then BAM, dead battery. It is a real pain when this happens. Cant open the doors so you need to use the emergency key. Then you still need to charge the dead battery enough to open the rear hatch (on my car at least). I am going to make sure I replace the battery on a routine schedule (as Jaguar reccomends). It would suck hard to have it fail out on the road somewhere....
My baby does not come out in the cold. Because of the covid & having an every day van it covered just 50 miles last year. Here in the UK i am about to get an MOT test done & start using it. Hope to do a few more miles this year. Great revue's you do. Thanks for sharing. Just to add with 4 years no claims bonus the Insurance this year was £650 English pounds. The road tax is £550 per year & the 99 octane fuel i use at around £1.38 per litre. I usually get between 20 & 25 to the UK gallon.
Nice, that sounds like a very affordable way to own these great cars. Last year I didi not get many miles either due to the world crisis, but this year I already have more.
The F-Type R AWD is definitely in my sights had a C6 corvette Z51 that was way to "loose" for me so bought a Porsche Boxster S. to me the F-Type R AWD would be wild and controllable and I do miss the exhaust of the V8. I wouldn't sell the Boxster but the F-Type R or SVR would look great sitting next to it! - thanks for the great review
What type of car is that 😂, good morning Mark, I appreciate you being so forthcoming with your experience with the " Jag" it's definitely a beautiful car, to me it's a super car and I say that with the HP in mind, 20+ mpg is certainly good milage, great video as always, stay safe my friend 😎🔥🇨🇦🌹
Had mine for 2 years now and 2 British winters. Got the car cover this year for the frost and snow sticking the windows or just put it in the garage. It was scary pulling the door open when there was a real cold snap, all the more so with mine being a convertible. On the plus side the V8 gets the car warm in seconds.
You are right, that is one of those pucker type moments and I find even if the door opens then it’s almost equally difficult to close it as the window sort of slams into the top again
I have the rare rear wheel drive 2015 R. Incredible exhaust sound, fast, fun and comfortable. People want to buy it or race me all the time. I just smile and say no thanks…
Awesome! That is a keeper for sure. They are quite rare too which means you won’t see many others on the streets at the same time. I see more 911s out there these days.
You summed it up when you said “sex on wheels.” I also enjoyed how you described looking back at it several times when you go to the store. It never fails to excite, even when sitting still. You are right about the power of the V-6. I find mine to be wonderfully balanced for the size of the car, and it has all the torque, launch, and explosiveness that I need. No doubt the V-8 must be a kick in the pants, but the V-6, too, is a honey of a value for the performance it gives. I appreciate and enjoy your videos and that you’ve fallen even deeper in love with your “stunning girl next door” the longer you’ve known her. ❤️👍
Thanks a lot for your comment and yes you are right, as good as these cars are, they do continue to grow on us for sure. V6 is amazing too and the sounds are also very aggressive with a strong performance to back it. There really is not much out there like these cars other than going to an Aston Martin Vantage which is nice but actually down on power from the Jag.
@@RJ-nf3jm that's exactly what I've called them since I saw my first F Type 7 years ago. So much resemblance to Aston Martins. Obviously Ian Callum being the common thread. Cheers!
I've just sold my2018 F-Type 400 😭Sport ...had it for 2 years & not one issue! It's my 2nd F-Type; started off with a base version - I guess the natural progression is a 'R' next.
There are many reasons why Auto/Stop would disable itself naturally..nothing necessarily wrong with the car or system. If blinkers are on, no auto/stop. If a/c is on or max a/c is on it won't turn on If radio is blaring with a/c it likely won't turn on If its in dynamic mode it's disabled If its in sport mode it's disabled If steering wheel is turned to one side, it's disabled. If you feather the brakes it won't engage. Lastly -- the ECU learns how you drive, so if it determines you gas quickly it'll decrease the frequency of when the vehicle goes into auto/stop My M6 did the same bs. Now only way to get it to do that is to drive it is eco-mode, but honestly who drives an M6 in eco mode????? Lol.
Of course it will be...it's the most beautiful car for years & now the new model is generic & slightly soulless, in comparison - not Callum's pure design anymore & Jag are going full electric in 2025. The original design F-Type is a guaranteed classic.
The stop start function is very dependent on the health of your battery. Stopped working on my XE S, dealer changed the battery under warranty 2 years ago and has worked ever since. Although, to be honest, I always turn it off.
I hear ya. Its weird because the car is getting a lot of road time so I would think that it had enough charging to bring things back, so I know I will be keeping an eye on it.
As far as that auto off feature, I’ve noticed that it wouldn’t come on also in my 2020 GMC Sierra… What I’ve found is that if you have too great of an electrical draw going on, this feature won’t work… Such as, if I have my sound system blasting and air conditioner going, this feature won’t work… Actually, I’ve found if I just have the A/C on by itself, this feature won’t work… It all depends on the electrical draw, I believe it’s a “safety” feature so that you’re battery won’t drain due to the many things that could draw electricity… If I have my sound playing maybe mid way, no A/C or anything else, that auto off feature works… 👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks. I usually have most of my features off and rarely run HVAC or AC and actually have it switched off because summers here are not that warm. Not much else, but another viewer mentioned maybe a slightly weaker battery, We will see.
@@markholubetz Yeah, quite possibly may be a weaker battery… Personally, I didn’t care for the feature either, but like you, I didn’t notice that it stopped working… Even if I don’t like a feature, I still do want it to work; especially if it’s paid for, right… 👍🏽👍🏽
It is a very beautiful car. Do you think you would prefer the rear drive only car in warmer climates, say Southern California, or would you still prefer the all wheel drive version.
Hi Brad, I would say they are both great options and the awd was better for me because of the potential to snowy drive but the Rear wheel drive would be a great driver for a warmer climate. I do like how the awd car you can mash the throttle and the translation is pure acceleration and little wheel spin so it pulls hard out of the hole. Either way, if I lived in SoCal I may have leaned a bit to the RWD as things are a bit more animal and also one less component to worry about for maintenance.
After selling my 1999 Ferrari F355 spyder F-1 (28000 miles) to buy a Jaguar F-type R I just laughed when Mark mentioned the problems he had with his Jag. i have spent more than 3000 a year fixing the Ferrari not counting the 7000 dollar service every five years. I never knew when I started it how far it would go before something went wrong. And something went wrong every 3-6 months. It was beautiful, sounded great, fun to drive but it was crap mechanically. If I only have the problems Mark has had, I'll be thrilled.
Haha true Nick, I have many friends with older exotics and even one with the same Ferrari and I remember the f1 pump went out, one word ouch. Also the clutch was a pricey one and can’t forget the regular services. The more recent F cars have gotten a bit more reliable but certainly not inexpensive to own. These Italian exotics are a committment and even my Gallardo had its moments but putting it in perspective, the F Type is a hard core performer that is what I would call reasonably reliable. How are you enjoying the Jag?
Fantastic video Mark. My father is looking into getting an F-Type, but he can't decide between the 2018/2019 SVR or the new 2021 R (facelift), which one would you recommend? From what I've read online, the new facelift model fixes a lot of the older issues (including the battery issues on the older SVR models) and of course it features the new tech/design/etc.... but on the other hand the pre-facelift models have that iconic design and they sound better too (plus much better pricing thanks to depreciation) - seems like a tough choice.
Hi Daniel, thats a tough one because the new ones have a slighter better suspension tuning, the upgraded power of the older SVR, and in my opinion the rear splitter is a bit nicer on the new car. The digital dash is an acquired taste and cool when new, but I suspect yet one more electrical item to potentially go and may also not show as clearly in bright light with reflection as I notice with the centre screen now. Both great cars, but I personally would go SVR as I like the older lights better, the fender design is a bit more unique and the SVR may have a bit better value retention with time.
Really enjoyed the video Mark. Very informative and thorough. You even answered my question before I got to ask and that was what car do you prefer, your F Type or the Lambo. Your analogy of the hot girl next door explains your sentiment succinctly. I do use mine as a daily driver. I've had mine for about 8 months and although the indicator light for brakes hasn't gone on, I drive pretty hard and anticipate that I will need to do some maintenance in that respect..I just passed 40k miles and these are the original brakes. Would you use the local Jaguar dealership for this or better to go the route of an independent mechanic. Having had the vehicle for 8 months snd I was also thinking of having them do some sort of inspection/service as I have done nothing since I purchased it, orher then some air in the tires and of course weekly washes. Anyway, thank you again for a great video.
Great to hear from you again Kevin and yes that’s true these cars are amazing are seem to be reasonably dependable. As for maintenance, driving a car with warranty, I generally go to the dealer for all work because even though costs may be a bit higher, if a person goes I dependant, that may be an excuse for them to refuse warranty repairs, maybe not so much for brakes, for generally speaking. Once warranty is over I still believe in shopping competitiveness for pricing because I have had some experience in the past where surprisingly, the dealers are often hungry as well and sometimes even offer better pricing. I develop loyalty over time .
@@markholubetz good point Mark, thanks for the advice. BTW, I'm looking forward for your sake to seeing some videos soon where you don't look like you're freezing. I grew up in the upper Midwest of the US, and although it's not Canada I can empathize with having to endure those winters..Hold on the weather will be better soon.
I’m in BC I’m thinking of selling my DB9 and getting one of these, here in the Okanagan valley I can drive it around 8 months of the year so no garage Queen. My DB9 really isn’t a daily driver, the V12 is very finicky as well, your car seems more reliable. You have 56km on your car in a few years I’ve only got 39K on mine for 14 years 😂 Thx for video
You bet Marty, these cars have their little glitches but are overall a pretty solid car from my experience and with the all wheel drive and some decent winters, these things are pretty great all year round.
@@markholubetz update just got the f-type dynamic in British racing green, said farewell to my DB9 I love this Jaguar. Gave it a high speed run on the coqiuhalla highway and loved every moment couldn’t keep my finger away from the dynamic button. I think your commentary put me over the top. First time the fin came up yessssss.
@@markholubetz I've watched a load of your videos this week. From what I gather it's a 2018 with the led lights but not the infotainment upgrade although you can likely upgrade it if you wanted to due to it being a 2018 if the chassis has a J in the 10th digit. I'm not sure what other optional extras you have. That's the one I'd buy, it's beautiful. Love the red bits of paint that you've had added too. I sent you a couple of photos of your car on Facebook.
Hi Mark, sorry if this has been asked before but what exact colour is your F type? I'm guessing Corris Grey? Looks stunning in the sunshine, wish we had more of that in the UK 😀
Mark why didn’t you get a manual? Not to answer my own question, but is it because you wanted a daily driver or because you wanted the v8? I believe they were still available in 2019. I was looking for one, but would need a second parking place which is hard to find in Brooklyn NY. My otter car is an E-Pace. Thanks, Bob
Hi Robert, I do prefer a manual, if I could get it, but I really wanted the V8 car and prioritized accordingly. Without a doubt, if a manual could get teamed up with the R, thats the car I would drive and likely go another step further, RWD, if I lived in a warmer climate.
Hi Mark! The auto stop/start function stops working when the battery is not at its 90-100%. Your battery is now 3 years old? Maybe its capacity will have decreased... Mine is a SVR MY 2017, and the auto stop only works after long drives (2-3 hours at least) and the battery is fully charged. The electronics of these cars are very sensitive to voltage changes. The car may start showing random failures if the battery is not at its best.
@@markholubetz Just replaced a brand new battery and it's working fine again. The old battery had 70% power left only after 4 years and to prevent the car not able to start up again in the traffic, the auto start & stop would be disable.
Once you drive and own a Jag, you are done for as nothing else can come close other than an Aston Martin. Owning a Jag is a love affair as they are such gorgeous eye candy and so slick and such great driver's cars. Every day in a Jaguar is a great day. You only really know how head over heels you are when you have to get service and go without the Jag for a day or a week. Then you are in withdrawal and the addiction is realized.
Indeed, there is your life before owning a Jaguar and then there is your life after owning one, and you find yourself asking how it was that it took yourself so damn long to finally get it right and get a Jaguar. I have never felt this way about any other car, but truly, the greatness of the Jaguar is addictive. I really don't know what I would do if a tree fell on mine or it was totaled in an accident given that there are so few new Jaguars on dealer showrooms these days and used low mileage off lease Jaguars are getting rarer and pricier than ever as people keep their vehicles rather than turn them in for another brand. There are literally almost no deals to be had on Jaguars any longer as the prices have risen as have the miles and the age of used inventory. Summer 2020 was the last buyers market for new or used Jaguars. The combination of great design and style, eye candy looks, comfort and performance is like heroin.
I just added a '17 Corvette C7 Grand Sport Collectors Edition for my son. The F-Type is so much better it was incredibly difficult to buy, especially considering its about 35% more expensive than a V8 R. Compared to the Jag, quality is truly awful, shakes, rattles, absolute garbage plastics in the 3LT CE version. Performance is a joke, but I expected that. The engine's strained high RPM range (above 3K) is EXACTLY the same as my 66 Ford, althougg a little less powerful probably due to 6.2L vs 6.4L and vehicle weight. Point is, zero progress over 60 years. The auto transmission is the worst I have ever driven, ever. The F-Type TOWERS over the Corvette.
I would totally agree and the pushrod is not quite as refined in any way compared to the Jag. I did enjoy the z06 in the C7 due to 650 ponies but anything shy of the engine will leave us all begging for the top engine every time. I have a friend with a ZL1 1LE Camaro and that machine goes but that’s the drivetrain in Chevy land to keep.
This is my dream car, I'm actually in a spot where I can afford to buy used but my wife is concerned due to negative things she has read about Jag reliability. Knowing what you do would you recommend the purchase of a low milage used 2016 or 2017? When I see this car I get butterflies, it is just an amazing looking and sounding vehicle. Historically I have driven american muscle cars, specifically Mustangs. Should I take the leap in your opinion?
Great choice David, personally I would, but I also know that I have a higher risk tolerance than many people as I have owned a Lamborghini, a BMWE60 M5 with the V10, several BMWs and Porsches. If you could get a bit of warranty would be a good start as it would give you some idea of what it may be like for the long term, but, at the end of there day, its an awesome car and I have never regretted buying mine.
These F Types all seem to have the same reviews to me! Leaving me with a quotation that i have just made up. You can live without an F Type But once you own an F Types you can't live without one.
Hi Fernando, thanks for reaching out. I guess I would say it depends on your personal needs and if you need the back seats because that would be the main advantage with the Benz, buying the drive and experience is the goal, then the F Type is definitely my preference.
You pay for windscreens!? In the UK it's about £75 for a new screen as the rest is covered by insurance, and it doesn't count as a claim. Also a cracked screen is an instant fail on the yearly road worthiness test. Thankfully I've only ever had one.
people look down Jaguar who didn't actually have it before and also Ranger Rover. name any city over the world where they don't have Range Rover one of my friends have Range Rover and never seen ended up changed it. Except for Rolls Royce. One of my friend he changed 5of Range Rover within 10 years. That proves everything. (one time he had stress because of a lot of breaking things problem but he still desired Range Rover again and again)

That sounds like a great mod as these Start/Stop feature is nasty and does cause additional wear, albeit small, still not ideal.

It is a sport one, however also as comfortable as others to do a trip. I feel a lot of nice sensations. The aesthetic is amazing, every angle of the car is beautiful. So good your videos about this car, thanks
Couldn't agree more! Great choice as these cars are the last of a breed and deliver sensations that many cars do not so its easy to own. Cheers.
Nice tip for sure, thanks
A good and balanced video Mark. I agree with your analysis. I love my F type and like you, can’t get enough....
Thanks a lot Clive, yes I thought I would try to be as unbiased as possible but in reality these cars are so good it’s hard not to be biased in favour of an F Type
I have the 4 cylinder and no it’s not the 6 or 8 but in comparison to most other cars on the road I feel like it does it job
It’s still a great car that trumps virtually on the road for looks and style so it’s still a wonderful win in my books.
I bet it stops traffic
Hi Mark, I sold my M6 and got the 2017 F-Type R....I take delivery this Thursday. It only has 21k miles and its certified! I also got 4 years of warranty! Can't wait to get it home! Thanks for your awesome videos! Keep up the great work!
Very nice! I know you will enjoy it as it delivers a bit more in character even though the M5 and M6 cars are great, these F Types are awesome and the next step is a big one.
Thanks, I'll keep you posted!
Damn you could’ve sold me your M6 they are not easy to get lol
Hey, how is your experience with your car
Great video! I own an R convertible and I have found that it is a sheer joy to drive and to own. I think it has a timeless design similar to it's forbearer, the E-Type. Classic lines and overall styling. I grew up with American muscle cars and always loved foreign sports cars. The F-Type is a perfect balance of American Muscle and European styling. Front engine V8 and english styling. For me its perfect!
I totally agree James and thanks for sharing. The F type is so charming and an utter delight. Again, not cheap, but for the dollar, nothing really better IMHO.
I'm considering getting one this year. Thank you for the helpful video.
You are welcome
Another really helpful review Mark, good to see your still enjoying it after your first year.
Just a couple of points, firstly on the loss of some of your dash data etc, had this happen to me 3 times now and the fix is as simple as disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnect, all done. Secondly -30 is something we do not get over here in Blighty but when it is winter I always use the app to start and pre warm the car, windows work perfectly.
Had mine now for 4 years and still it makes me grin every time I drive it, hopefully we will have these cars for a few years yet.
You bet Dave, until there is something better, its pretty easy to love driving these euro hotrods.
This is my dream car. I'll do everything to obtain it 🙌 love your videos by the way.
Thank you very much for supporting the channel. Just keep it in your sights and goals and soon it will be yours.
go for it 👊
even... kill someone?
There are four hand-adjustable hood alignment stops. The front bumper has two adjustment bolts on each side, underneath where it buts against the hood. With those 8 bolts you can get the gaps even. You can also remove and shim the bolts under the front edge of the hood to make the surfaces flush.
Thanks for sharing, I will have to take a closer look at mine. Mine needs a tweak.

The hand adjustable stops are under the hood, roughly in each corner.

Haha it's funny because my XFR's Stop/Start/Eco just stopped working till this day and I couldn't be happier. To me it's a VERY annoying feature to have on a 5.0 V8 supercharged car. Great video again thank you
Haha, well it seems to be a common issue. Some folks are saying it’s a battery issue but I have not looked into that yet.
Congrats on your new car, they really are great machines. What type of color did you go with?
@@markholubetz Yulong white with sienna tan interior. It’s beautiful!!
Great review of this Jaguar. Thank you
You are very welcome
Great as usual
Thank you very much
Oh, that brake pedal squeak. My 2017 has it too. I thought it was just the sole of my shoe squeaking against the pedal, until I saw your video. When I got out of the car i pressed the pedal with my hand and confirmed it. I’m going to try fixing myself before I go to the dealer.
For sure, sounds like they used the white lithium grease on moving parts and it’s helping a bit
the great thing about these cars is the depreciation, one of the highest in the industry. makes them affordable very quickly. i'm looking at a 2017, under 40K miles for only 53K US.
Exactly, their loss, out win
The car may depreciate but maintenance costs remain high. That’s why people always say make sure you have warranty with used or off lease higher end vehicles.
You are the first youtuber I have watched realize the Sun visors may be small comparing to other cars but if they were bigger you would not be able to see out past them 👍🤦♂️
Thanks a lot James, indeed. Its practical in the way it was designed, I just saw it as a "cute" touch, lol. Hope you are having a great weekend.
Congrats.
@@markholubetz . Thank you. All the best Mark
My car has gone up in value. It is a 2017, in Ammonite Gray too. Really great car. I get alot of comments and compliments. It is very James Bond.
You are right it’s an amazing, classy and classic color.
Last year I didi not get many miles either due to the world crisis, but this year I already have more.
great video mark keepin comin enjoy watchin
Thanks a lot for watching Mike
The F-Type R AWD is definitely in my sights had a C6 corvette Z51 that was way to "loose" for me so bought a Porsche Boxster S. to me the F-Type R AWD would be wild and controllable and I do miss the exhaust of the V8. I wouldn't sell the
Boxster but the F-Type R or SVR would look great sitting next to it! - thanks for the great review
Thanks David, yes the Porsche is always a great car to drive but these F type V8 cars have an awesome character to them.
You stay safe as well Scott hope all is good with you too. I see after that wi yet storm we had on Saturday, we are slowly back on yea I for spring
That's one of the best looking Jag F-Types I've ever seen. Beauty. Lemme know when you wanna sell her! 😉
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that. Cheers
Ha, my F-Type is my “poor man’s Aston Martin.” That’s the closest I will get to an Aston but I’m happy as can be with my F-Type. 👍
@@RJ-nf3jm that's exactly what I've called them since I saw my first F Type 7 years ago. So much resemblance to Aston Martins. Obviously Ian Callum being the common thread. Cheers!
@ 3:13 - There's that special move again after closing and F Type bonnet 😂😂😂😎👍
It’s a thing of beauty and a little to the left. Cheers
I've just sold my2018 F-Type 400 😭Sport ...had it for 2 years & not one issue! It's my 2nd F-Type; started off with a base version - I guess the natural progression is a 'R' next.
They really are great cars. Are you looking at the new model? Maybe last years SVR
There are many reasons why Auto/Stop would disable itself naturally..nothing necessarily wrong with the car or system.
If blinkers are on, no auto/stop.
If a/c is on or max a/c is on it won't turn on
If radio is blaring with a/c it likely won't turn on
If its in dynamic mode it's disabled
If its in sport mode it's disabled
If steering wheel is turned to one side, it's disabled.
If you feather the brakes it won't engage.
Lastly -- the ECU learns how you drive, so if it determines you gas quickly it'll decrease the frequency of when the vehicle goes into auto/stop
My M6 did the same bs. Now only way to get it to do that is to drive it is eco-mode, but honestly who drives an M6 in eco mode????? Lol.
Thanks a lot for sharing. I will try to test this theory as well. Have a great day.
I think one day f type will be one of the collectors car.
I hope you are right
Of course it will be...it's the most beautiful car for years & now the new model is generic & slightly soulless, in comparison - not Callum's pure design anymore & Jag are going full electric in 2025.
@@markholubetz
Yeah, quite possibly may be a weaker battery… Personally, I didn’t care for the feature either, but like you, I didn’t notice that it stopped working… Even if I don’t like a feature, I still do want it to work; especially if it’s paid for, right… 👍🏽👍🏽
It is a very beautiful car.
I live in GA and RWD is fine with me
After selling my 1999 Ferrari F355 spyder F-1 (28000 miles) to buy a Jaguar F-type R I just laughed when Mark mentioned the problems he had with his Jag. i have spent more than 3000 a year fixing the Ferrari not counting the 7000 dollar service every five years.
I have a similar problem with my window dropping with my cayman in the cold 🤷🏼♂️
Yikes indeed

Thanks a lot, I also love the look as the sun is going down the car looks menacing with that color and I believe it is Corris Grey like you say,
Thank you for this video. You just saved me a lot of money - lol
You're welcome!! Still a great car better than most in this price segment.
Thanks for the heads up and I may try even longer drives to see but I will also watch for other issues
I absolutely agree. I had a loaner when mine was in for a software update that took a week. I could not wait to get into my own car.
Am definitely looking
Nice
AMC options will buy me this car

Cool cars indeed
I have a friend with a ZL1 1LE Camaro and that machine goes but that’s the drivetrain in Chevy land to keep.
..what is the Jaguar name for that exterior color?
I believe its Carpathian Grey.
Did you sell your convertible?
Which convertible? The Boxster? It was wrecked but we just got another, the 911 and still have it.
Haha, you nailed it
Hi Mark im going for a 2019-2020 Car and im between c43 AMG or f type v6 what would you go for

Are you sure it doesn't increase your yearly premiums? If so that's awesome.

one thing i hate about all cars in this segment is that they change hands so much. used models always have 3-5 owners.
You are right that often happens because the second and 3rd owners can’t afford the maintenance.
@@markholubetz aha that makes sense, I hadn’t considered that.
The R has AWD ???
Yes, as of 2016 it was AWD
Mud flaps. Why did manufacturers stop fitting mud flaps. Perfect for keeping rocks from hitting the side.
I agree, even some small low profile ones would be great
Have a 2021 f type R V8 575 hp fully loaded 750 miles i would let it go for the right price
Hi Robert have you considered how much? Same purchase price or would you be looking for a higher figure? Also is the car everything you expected or is there some buyers remorse.

Hey Mark, some people say driving an F Type is better than sex.....what do you think....

I'm a 27 y/o virgin and can also confirm it's no contest.
What year is your F Type, please?
It’s a 2018
I might be the only person that does not like the crackle exhaust sound.
Thanks, I would agree there probably are not many who don’t but either way it can be partially switched off.
What year is your F-Type?
It is a 2018 F type R
@@markholubetz nice! Any chance you can do a video on interior and how it all works/menus?
I haven't seen pretty much any videos on it
Also, are all 2018 F-Type R's Dynamic? Or is there a type R and a type R Dynamic?
Hey Mark, have you heard of Viezu Technologies? I watched videos of how they increased horsepower. I have a 2014 F type S. It has 495 horsepower, now the 2021 is at 575 horsepower. What do you think? Would you do this? Please send me a private message at my Instagram, jagnconverse. Thanks, Benny
