@@chubz01 I have a 15 with 50k on the clock no problems at all. Two people bought one after seeing mine including a 13 and new. Both have had no issues either. Enjoy the massive grin when you start yours up each time and have fun.
You admitting to perusing the Jaguar forums and the spreadsheet is incredible, and the reason I kept watching this video. Props dude, please keep these videos and amount of detail up. All the small details and recommendations/fixes... man this is possibly the best buyer's guide I've seen.
I agree wholeheartedly...AWESOME buyer's guide! This dude is finally helping me narrow down my decision after 2 years of contemplating this (not to mention seeing if the prices were going to drop, and they really haven't; they've been hovering between $48 and 55k the entire time). Now the only thing I have to decide is weather to go with the 2016 or newer AWD version, or go with the RWD. You see, my wife and I will be taking turns between that and a Porsche Macan Turbo. I know the RWD can be a handful, plus it rains a lot in Florida. She's used to the AWD stability of the Porsche, and it seems extremely safe on the highway, even in the pouring down rain; it's imperative I keep my wife safe with our choices, and just because I might like throw in the ass out and around corners, it could be pretty dangerous for her👍🏻
I picked up my 2017 F Type R last week. I wanted to thank you for the buyers guide as I found a couple of the things you mentioned. There was no way I would have noticed some of them without your help. I was able to get the dealer to fix of all of them. I appreciate you taking the time to make and post these videos.
Hearing things like this makes the video editing and stuff like that all worth it. Glad the video helped and I’m pumped the dealer sorted it all out for you!
@@risktkr77 There was an issue with one of the active exhaust valves, the weather stripping was loose and the front air splitter was broken. All stuff mentioned on the video. The dealer replaced the splitter for me before I bought the car and the other issues were taken care of later under the factory warranty. Also if you are buying a car, have the AC serviced if possible. These cars use a relatively small charge of refrigerant and I had issues with the system freezing up. Again that was taken care of under warranty
And BMW. Not to mention that Porsche managed to make an electric car that has no combustible fuel in it and it still catches fire. And it burned someones house down as well!
Don’t they are very disappointing in reality.....cheap interiors lots of plastic and components out of Peugeot’s, lots of rattles and vibrations. Also the stereo is shit.
1. Injectors: Fouling up. Prevent with additives. 2. Differential: Sludgy oil. Change often. The oil. Not the Diff. 3. Supercharger Coupler: Listen to engine cold from outside. If it rattles the rocks need changing. 4. Exhaust Actuator: Try restart. 5. Carpet sagging: Practice good hygene. 6. Panel misalignment. Communicattion (with dealer) is key. 7. Seat Bolsters. Every sports car has this problem. But this one doesnt.
I truly admire your honesty. Although it's a little pain to listen to as a huge Jag fan, this is excellent knowledge. On the whole though, for a powerful sports car, the issues weren't too bad. As you say, every car has its issues.
Well done overview, thanks. For folks interested in purchasing an F-Type, I wanted to share my experience. I've owned 3. 2015 Type R, 2018 Type R, and currently drive a 2019 SVR. My daily, 10K miles per year commuting into NYC on crappy roads regardless of weather. I've literally had zero issues, including no bent wheels which is a miracle in this area. I've owned several high end sports cars. This model made me a Jag convert. For those that intend to track their car, I wouldn't recommend it. Not suited to that environment.
Per Harry on Harry's Garage the wheels (and all of the suspension) has to pass the Land Rover test....no damage after a 45mph curb strike. So, toughest sports cars in the world. I have had two porsches and both after a 45mph hit would likelyhave hundreds of dollars in damage...wheel would just be the start of things. Subaru too.....these Jaguars (I have a v6 coupe) are amazing. Someday people will figure it out once they run from the hype of the 911 after a bore scoring issue....and these will be the next big thing.
Very good info and Vid! I had to laugh, when you mentioned reading up... I also went to the forums and read the LONG know issues thread before buying. when 80% of that long thread was radio related, I was okay moving to the buy with knowledge stage, WHICH is what you are supplying folks here.!
@@skrrtgarage3922 All in all sounds like for what you get they are actually good cars for the money.. Especially when you can get a very low mileage one in the 30K dollar range.. Deal of the century?
REALLY REALLY helpful advises and thank your for all this. I have the same 2015 RWD R as well, and you become my #1 jaguar expert in youtube. Great video, thanks for sharing, keep up!
2018 XE here. No problems, other than a rattle that's started when the sunroof is open. As soon as this craziness is over, I'll bring it in for that. The XE replaced my 2015 XF, which replaced my 2004 X-Type. I've had pretty good experience with Jags. On the other hand, I had a Taurus that had it's water pump fail catistrophically, taking out a lot of the engine, and my wife got a Fusion plug-in hybrid that we got replaced under the state's lemon law.
I purchased a certified pre-owned 2017 XE 35t in March of this year. It came with a 3 year warranty and only had 18K miles on it. I really love how it drives - plenty of power. Jags are beautiful cars. I've owned a few of them and yes in the past for every hour I drove the car, mechanic hubby was under the hood for four hours fixing stuff - mostly electronic issues. I think their reliability has definitely improved over the years.
I currently own two F-Types. There are three more very needed things to look for. 1) Has the water pump been replaced. They are a very common failure point. Probably 60% failure by 50k miles 2) Sticky buttons and 3) on coupes look for the leather pealing away from the gauge cluster. I have seen this as an issue in 15-17 coupes
thanks! I've been telling people for years, but yours is the first vid I've seen that says this up front: If you plan on buying a used sports car, join the club FIRST - THEN start looking. the other club members have already learned the foibles, and just MIGHT have for sale what you're looking for.
Honestly man you seem like a solid and thank you for taking the time of appreciating the car and bringing things into perspective. The way you broke down was so simplify and easy to understand I could play this for my nephew and he can understand what your saying. Quick question though and hopefully you see this, it’s been a big myth that Jaguars are “bad cars” and “break down easily” but as you put “it’s a super car” and most people are expecting otherwise. With that being said the people saying that never owned one sooo, yea, thoughts?
Great video, Connor. Thanks for the tips, especially re: the fuel additive. I'll start that routine. I have a 2016 R Coupe, and so far, no issues...but I like the preventative approach.
I just wanted to say Thank you so very much for your well done informative videos! You are the first person I've ever subscribed to on UA-cam and the reason my wife and I felt comfortable in purchasing our Jaguar F-type. I look forward to future video's. Keep up the excellent work!!!
Not mentioned was the "Y-pipe", the plastic coolant pipe located under the supercharger. It was originally a two-piece design but failed often enough that Jaguar redesigned it but didn't issue a recall, so previous cars didn't get updated. I just bought a 2015 F-Type R and am seriously considering fixing it preemptively to avoid both a slow or catastrophic coolant loss. The fix is not cheap due to its location, requiring that the supercharger be removed. Total cost of the fix will be $1500-$3000 depending who does the work.
Hows your F type holding up mate ? Id like to see how it has treated you so far ? Im about to offload my E class coupe & looking at the F type 2015/2016 vintage.
Well done, good advice there! A couple of comments though from someone who's had the V6 engine for more than 3 years: - The most common problem by far with these engines wasn't mentioned in the video - the coolant system and water pump. The plastic coolant system pipes and water pumps fail on all these engines sooner or later. Unless those components have been replaced you always have to watch out for coolant leaks. Some parts have been redesigned by JLR throughout the years. - Another issue worth mentioning is the timing chains and tensioners. They may wear out over time and worst case lead to catastrophic engine failure. The chains and tensioners were redesigned two or three times throughout the production of the engines, so the newer the engine the lower the risk of that issue. - These are not Ford blocks. These engines do have some FoMoCo ancillaries but the block is 100% Jaguar and designed by Jaguar although it's assembled in a Ford engine plant in the UK. - Injector problems are probably mainly relevant in the US and other countries with low quality gas. In Europe we usually feed these engines 98 octane gas which is much better for the engine.
That’s really useful information! I have heard about the coolant and water pump issues, but I haven’t really heard much about timing chains or tensioners. Where did you hear the block wasn’t supplied from ford? I read that it was in a few different places but who knows. Thanks for the detailed write up, again this is good information.
@@skrrtgarage3922 There's some good info about this on the UK based jaginfo.org which has many very knowledgeable Jag enthusiasts, some with direct connections to JLR.
So helpful! I just picked up a 2015 V6S BRG vert today and used the tips from this video & the follow up when choosing my car. Thank you so much, Connor!
Thanks for the video. I've had my S for 6 months now; besides the sticky finish of the buttons, I haven't seen the other issues mentioned many other places so thanks for giving me something to check out this weekend! Subscribed!
I don’t ever comment but I just wanted to say I just picked up my 2016 F-Type R (also in white basically same spec lol) and your videos on the car have really informed me during the buying process! Hopefully the Jag dealer sells those trunk cover strings as mine were missing!
Great video! I bought the new 2018 F Type R out of the showroom and noticed the carpet was detached and falling off under the console on the passenger side a few weeks after driving it so when I got my stereo upgraded 3 months ago they replaced the passenger side carpet. Also those rings that hold the shield over the truck broke off. It broke the first month and I barely even opened the trunk. The other thing I would like to mention is I had only 15,000 miles on my car and my back tires became so bald that I just replaced them with new P Zeros for almost 1,000. Other than these things I absolutely love the car! I enjoy driving everyday! I’ve owned many sport cars and have to say it’s the most fun car I’ve ever owned 👍🏻😀
I admire the way you are giving great information, my only issue it took so long to get to long lists of issues. You know what you are talking about, just get to it and quit the long drawn out speech.
I sold mine as it had way too many issues and was always in the shop !! Bought a brand new Lexus LC 500 with performance pack . Love it and the 5.0 tire n/ a engine does not need turbos to get the business done ! Exhaust noise is intoxicating as well . The Lexus has rear steering and wow Torsen rear end , bullet proof !!! I owned a f type and I’ll take the Lexus hands down and will last 10 years and appreciate in value where as the f type just flops after warranty, just saying ! Great video though
The LC is about 40k more on the used market. You're comparing cars in completely different price classes. The LC is obviously superior in many ways, but unaffordable for those researching early F-Types.
Yep my 2012 jaguar XFR was very reliable, at 140,000 miles the injectors failed, just one bank though, it was blowing white smoke, and dripping gas out of the tailpipe, looked terrible, was only $1200 to fix. Thanks for all the work you put into this.
At 7:00 about the injectors I think I read about water collecting near them from the hood vents if water gets in from washing/rain which could cause issues
This was super informative I heard a lot of the same things on other videos but none of them really had solutions, for example. The fuel injector cleaner! I’ve loved these cars ever since I saw them and I think I’m gearing up to grab a 2017 v6 model…wish me luck
Hey man! Is there any chance you still have that spreadsheet? Would love to have something like that to keep flicking back to! Fantastic video, love the detail!
I drive a 2017 F-Pace V6. Amazing car, drives like a sporty sedan and never had any problems. But like you said I did my research, joined forums, waited few months for the right one, checked everything I can before I bought it and that paid well off.
Yeah, your advice is spot and that's what I do too when I make an important purchase: Research. You can still follow your heart and get a good vehicle or product of your favorite brand or styling if you do your research, take your time, find the right one, know what you are getting and ready to deal with it. You will definitely enjoy it in the end!
Hi there from the UK. You've definitely saved a lot of people a lot of time and effort covering these issues. I've never been a Jag fan as I do hark back to the bad old days of reliability and the "pipe and slippers" image of the old cars but I'm considering moving over to a 3L V6 R-Dynamic. I'm a Porsche Cayman owner of 5 years at present and I've always thought that I've arrived at the pinnacle of my car ownership as the Cayman is just so good, but I've always admired those gorgeous looks of the F-Type and was surprised at how affordable they are. I may come to regret it if I leave Porsche and join Jag but what gets me interested is the fact that my budget of around £45k will allow me to get an 2019 F-Type with extremely low miles of say 15-20k as opposed to a 2010 Porsche 911 with around 60k miles on it. Do I go for the older 911 with virtually no depreciation and possibly investment potential along with its bullet proof build and reputation or the newer F-Type. ?
That is a question for the ages haha. I think it depends on your budget. The Porsche is a known commodity with seemingly fixed prices, whereas the Jag may suffer a little depreciation.. but who knows it may hold steady. The beauty about cars is that you can change them. Its not like a marriage or anything. I would recommend you try the Jag.. if you dont love it. you can switch back to a Porsche pretty quickly.
Owned a 2016 F type S. It looked fabulous, it drove and handled very well, the exhaust sound was awesome. Unfortunately it lacked much quality. Within 3 months the speakers started to crack and rattle/ It developed multiple interior noises and crackles. The start push button and the shift lever coating started to peel off. I just coudn't live with all of the quality issues so I unloaded it and pought a porsche. The quality of the porsche is head and shoulder above the Jag. A lot would have to change before I would consider another Jaguar.
I had the same 2016 f type s and totally agree that it really lacked quality. Everything David mentioned happened to me ...speaker rattles, gear lever fell apart, rear view mirror fell off leather had flaws in it, paint had runs in it, and more.....like all the body panels were removed as they were out of alignment. Went with Porsche also different class. I would never ever ever buy another Jaguar....... But let’s face it ...they will be out of business in the next 10 years.....
I purchased a new F Pace S and new F Type R in 2017 and now traded the F Pace S for a full sized supercharged Range Rover... my F-Type R has been THE MOST RELIABLE of all Jaguar/Range Rover products that I can recall (family/friends experiences inc.) ! Only a bad O2 sensor replaced. Other than that, best build quality I’ve experienced so far. Thank you for sharing and not saying they are problem free.. just saying it’s been my least problematic English car.
I’ve owned an XE since end of 2018 and been so great. This list is so small for issues, I’d be very happy with those problems compared to something more significant.
Had my 2011 supersport since new now it has 90k on it replaced water pump and coolant hoses diffrential oil and still blowing doors off other Cars. I love my Big Cat !
Another great video and Let’s be honest, if clogged up injectors (normally caused by using regular gas) and having to change the diff oil at 40k is the only issues with any car its amazing. 1 issue you haven’t mentioned that I have is the battery fault. Mine is a 2017 FtypeR and the low battery warning came on a few times, 4 months after purchase and the dealer advised that this is a common issue with the battery, they checked the battery and had approval to change under warrantee, roll forward another 6 months and the fame fault again, Its a common enough issue that dealerships have a special tool to test the batteries and send the info back to the head office so anyone with a failing battery or low power should definitely push to get it replaced. Drive safe and enjoy your R
That’s absolutely correct! Yea, I’ve heard of battery’s going flat and causing a myriad of warning lights. A lot of f type owners have been getting CTEC battery tenders, I might do a video about it. Thanks for the heads up!
I had a 2000 Jag S type my wife put 100,000 miles on it and I swear I had zero issues, I mean zero! Not one light bulb burned out not one switch broke nothing. I was shocked at its reliability and the dang thing still looks cool all these years later. Think Ford own them then. I’m a PORSCHE guy but I am switching to the F...gonna get one soon. Thanks for the vids.
V6 version actually encounters much fewer engine problems due to less heat and better cooling (V6S). Besides that, I encountered these issues: 1. leaking diff, fix under warranty; 2. broken exhaust valve, fixed with FabSpeed parts; 3. passenger side window switch acting funny when temperature drop below 20F; 4. cargo bay cover is awful. I daily drive my V6S and it's been very reliable besides those little things. Diff never leaked again after fix. V8 encounters mostly heat soak and broken pipes, especially in summer and on track.
Good feedback! I haven’t run into heat soak yet, I’ve ran it pretty hard too. I wonder how long it would take to get these to heat soak. Ps, I love da speed, how does it sound??
@@skrrtgarage3922 I did not encounter heat soak issue with my car for a full day track event in NJMP. Most V8 f type encounter heat issue around an hour or so in summer temperature, as the intercooler is not built for hard use. I believe V6S uses the same intercooler thus better cooling. For FabSpeed stuff, I commissioned a local fabrication shop to cut the old valve out and weld the new one in, in which rattle noise disappeared and pop and crack sound more aggressive.
Put ~30,000 miles on my 2015 F-Type R and never had no issues. I replaced it 2 years ago with a 2018 F-Type SVR. That car currently has just around 9,500 miles on it and has been in the shop 3 times for failed mass air flow sensors. My wife 2015 Jaguar XF has 32,000 miles and has NEVER been in the shop for repair. So, just like any other car, its reliability is hit or miss.
I has a 2015 XF - 3 liter supercharged V6. Loved it! Great engine, lots of smooth power, comfortable, roomy. I replaced it with a XE. I miss the power and the room, but I'll probably replace this XE with another one when my lease is up.
100% correct about the differential issue. I bought the car in October of last year and by January I could hear the diff going out. I was outside the factory warranty but luckily had purchased a 3rd party warranty and they actually covered it. Originally they thought it was the wheel bearings so they replaced those first then decided it was the diff. That got replaced too. Overall cost to me was $100. Cost to the warranty company.... $6K!
Posted on here over a year ago about my F Type being returned because the diff had gone. Got another one April 2021..now at 12900 miles and I need a new supercharger pulley tensioner. ! Fortunately it’s covered under an extended warranty. Not a great deal of luck so far! But I still love it.
I spent 4 years looking for a XK.. wanted the room, Checked out the Forums, weeks & weeks to read them all, saw all the videos. You want to know about Jaguar...I can tell you. only one fault with the 07, (duck bill) and it was a easy fix, 10 minutes. Look that one up.... ha, ha. I found one, 2007, 41000 miles, 4.2 V8, never seen the rain, showroom ready, 1 of 97 Winter Gold , convertible , 3 states away.. read up on it, have done 5 car shows with it , love the car . Have had 4 other sports cars, by far this Jaguar tops them all,, room, I'm, (6'3" 230 lbs) You can do a 3 week trip in it ,two people.. you can't in the F- type. I know of no other GT car that for this kind money and style that you can have this much fun in... with out going way over 100,000.00.. Maybe the C8 Vett. 85,000.00 good set-up. And maybe a weekend trip for two. but there again there are Vett's everywhere. the F-type is a super car, but not for any long road trips.. And Ford owned Jaguar from 1996 to 2008, they saved Jaguar, and made it one great car to have.. You get looks everywhere you go. and like any car, you take care of it and it will run forever.. See you on the road..... the guy with a smile from ear to ear..loving the ride.
Super video. Super helpful. I have an F type and the rear flapping seals were present in my car and this helped me fix things for about 5 dollars. Thank you. And I am doing injector prevention with BG44k. :)
thank you for taking the time to make this video, I Subscribed and liked, I wish your channel lots of success. Well done, entertaining and qualitative video!
Great video mate, had my 2017 Coupe 6 days before the Electronic Parking Brake started showing a fault message. Turned out to be the rear right parking brake motor was stuck on and wouldn’t disengage. Following some forum surfing, this turned out to be quite a common Jag issue, Simple motor replacement, but still adore it and think it’s one of the best looking (and sounding...!) cars of all time. When it’s that pretty, you can forgive it almost anything.
Amazing car nice review! I would add in water pump and plastic coolant lines... early 5.0 ( pre 2013 ) had timing chain tensioner issues as well .... overall extremely reliable 500 + HP car
Thanks for all the advice. Lots of great stuff to know. Am about to go back (I test drive it today) and check these things on a 2016 F-Type S Convertible before I hopefully buy it. Hoping everything checks out. Good to know that your list wasn't super long. I'm excited that I might have one of my own soon!
Hey - that's my exhaust clip at 14:40 lol The good news is I got it replaced under warranty about a year ago. The bad news is that the new one went out in September and needs replacing again!
I have a 2011 XJ-R with the same supercharged V8 engine (470 HP). Almost a decade old, 80K miles, only thing I've replaced is the water pump. Purrs like a kitten and roars like a --- well --- you know. :-) Honestly I never heard of the injectors being an issue on these engines before the F-Type R so probably a new design to give you the "pops and crackles" that mine does not have. I also have a 2012 XK-R with the same engine (510 HP) and it is at 50K miles and I've never replaced anything yet. No issue with either E-Diff likely because they are down 75-100 HP on the F-Type R V8 (and I don't drive either like a crazy man!). The transmission is ZF and is basically bulletproof; I did the 70K mile service just as a precaution----it shifted just as smoothly before the service as after. In my experience the parts for Jags are expensive but the labor is reasonable; they are not as complicated to work on as an Audi for example. These are not inexpensive cars but if you can afford a $50K-$90K car, you can easily afford to maintain it and keep it running well. No reason you should not be getting 150K miles of service on a Jag V8 (I have not had experience with the 6 or 4 cylinder engines). Enjoy!!
I completely agree with all things you’ve pointed out Trevor. It does really make me wonder if the tune of “cracks and burbles” is causing the injector issues. It makes me happy to hear your cars are running strong, I’m sure a lot of that is because you take care of them!
Drove a 2019 F-Type, was thinkin of swappin my 2018 Z06. Just couldn't do it, not yet anyway. The F-Type is freakin bad ass! Just still attached to the Vette. Maybe one day... Awesome video man. Thanks.
Same here, I got a C7 but it's hard to switch to Jags. Corvettes are more reliable in my opinion and the parts + Maintinance is much much cheaper. And you can find spare parts and sell it easier and faster. C7 looks bad ass too and it's catchy to the eyes. It looks like a Ferrari but the Jag looks awesome too
Connor, I am totally geeking out on all your RWD F-Type R posts. Your passion is contagious and I feel like I am now on a second honeymoon with my own RWD F-Type R. As for this video, I ran out right after watching and sure enough the adhesive for that weatherstripping in the trunk on mine had failed (never thought to look before). The 3M weatherstrip glue did the trick. I also just had my dealer implement a couple of the Technical Bulletin’s for rattles you flashed up on the forums. I had almost given up, but once I called out the bulletin by number, they fixed it no charge. Great stuff. Keep them coming.
Yea, I think the car is reliable. It has a couple known issues you have to be aware of. But if you are aware and know ahead of time.. you will find it very reliable
I know this video is old but still very helpful. I do ALLLLLL my work on my cars and I was interested in the injector issue. $500 for a DIY repair, I'll take that all day.
Dude...let me be the first to tell you you make some OUTSTANDING, quality videos. I've literally been contemplating this car for going on 2 years, and you are absolutely helping me narrow down my decision. The main question I have for you though, is if you had to do it all over again, would you go with the 2016 AWD version, or stick with the RWD? My next question is if I choose to go with the all-wheel drive version, do I now have twice the chance for the differential issue having 2 differentials on board? Thanks a TON brother...keep up the AWESOME work! Scott
I really appreciate that man! I would still go RWD.. the 2016 R with AWD is definitely the safer option if your region snows/rains all the time. Also, the 2016 has slightly better instrument cluster. But the 2015 R has hydrolic steering which is superior and I really like RWD cars, I love being able to do a little burnout or slide and this car is amazing at that. Lastly the 15 R is the fastest amongst all f types, if you can my SVR vs R video the 2015 R won the rolling races. The front differential is far less likely to have issues but should still be checked just like the rear diff. Either way you can’t go wrong, let me know what you think!
@@skrrtgarage3922 okay, so I went and watched the video; I was as surprised as you guys were, but to be honest, I want more LOL. If you're looking for content, then how about trying a 2016 R, that way we know there is nothing more to the vehicle other than AWD...that it is an identical model, just with the addition of AWD 😉🤘🏻 I need to know man! 😂😂😂 The only F-Type R I've ever driven, was a 2015. The wife and I took it on a test drive, and I really enjoyed tossing the back end around...for her, maybe not so much lol. I'm @bigbeardscott on Instagram, and I'm going to go look for you on there 👍🏻
Great information again Conner. Only trouble I have had is the exhaust valves squeaking when opening and closing but was changed under warranty, also sooty water dropping from the exhaust joint clamps below the diff, apparently a common problem but Jaguar will tell you that it is normal. What additive is it that your using to flush out the injectors. The biggest problem is them darn rear tyres dont last that long....:). Loving your channel mate, keep them coming.
My man Dave! Couldn’t agree more, tires for way too fast! Yea, I was going to mention the sooty water. Our jag’s exhaust tips are tipped upward which allows pooling of water in the exhaust, so Jag made “relief” holes to allow the water to drain. Thanks for your support!
No problem at all brother, I switch back and forth because I’ve seen research that suggests Lucas injector cleaner is the best. However, members on the jaguar forms like BG 44k. So I alternate lol
Best sports car ive ever owned . My v8s had perfect reliability and was such an exciting drive im going to get another one

Also if you are buying a car, have the AC serviced if possible. These cars use a relatively small charge of refrigerant and I had issues with the system freezing up. Again that was taken care of under warranty

Don’t they are very disappointing in reality.....cheap interiors lots of plastic and components out of Peugeot’s, lots of rattles and vibrations. Also the stereo is shit.

Sooooo, did you get one?
1. Injectors: Fouling up. Prevent with additives.
2. Differential: Sludgy oil. Change often. The oil. Not the Diff.
3. Supercharger Coupler: Listen to engine cold from outside. If it rattles the rocks need changing.
4. Exhaust Actuator: Try restart.
5. Carpet sagging: Practice good hygene.
6. Panel misalignment. Communicattion (with dealer) is key.
7. Seat Bolsters. Every sports car has this problem. But this one doesnt.
Hello l have Jaguar F-Type V8 and I think I have supercharger coupler so what do I change ? Do l need to change the supercharger?
Thank you 🙏
Hey , could you explain more about number 3 ?
I truly admire your honesty. Although it's a little pain to listen to as a huge Jag fan, this is excellent knowledge. On the whole though, for a powerful sports car, the issues weren't too bad. As you say, every car has its issues.
I completely agree! Thanks for the comment
That’s awesome! What’s you opinion between the RWD vs AWD? And R vs SVR?
Per Harry on Harry's Garage the wheels (and all of the suspension) has to pass the Land Rover test....no damage after a 45mph curb strike. So, toughest sports cars in the world. I have had two porsches and both after a 45mph hit would likelyhave hundreds of dollars in damage...wheel would just be the start of things. Subaru too.....these Jaguars (I have a v6 coupe) are amazing. Someday people will figure it out once they run from the hype of the 911 after a bore scoring issue....and these will be the next big thing.
As a New England resident I’m sold.. how did you like the R compared to the SVR?
Very good info and Vid! I had to laugh, when you mentioned reading up... I also went to the forums and read the LONG know issues thread before buying. when 80% of that long thread was radio related, I was okay moving to the buy with knowledge stage, WHICH is what you are supplying folks here.!
Thank you! I appreciate it, glad to hear I wasn’t the only one trudging through all those posts lol
ive owned one for 6 months now and had no idea about the injector issue, ill have to grab some this weekend and run it through

This is incredibly helpful. I'm considering a 2016 F Type R and your videos are exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the info about injectors and diff, I would also add the waterpump leaking and seat belts tension problems I had on my R
Oh yea, I forgot my R had the seatbelt tensioner replaced by a manufacturer recall. I wasn’t aware the water pumps leak, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Jim 🙏🏼
I've had a Jag XE for 3 years. No issues whatsoever.
That’s awesome!
2018 XE here. No problems, other than a rattle that's started when the sunroof is open. As soon as this craziness is over, I'll bring it in for that. The XE replaced my 2015 XF, which replaced my 2004 X-Type. I've had pretty good experience with Jags.
On the other hand, I had a Taurus that had it's water pump fail catistrophically, taking out a lot of the engine, and my wife got a Fusion plug-in hybrid that we got replaced under the state's lemon law.
incrédible
Yes to all of those, I have a part two in process and two of those reasons were on it!
thanks! I've been telling people for years, but yours is the first vid I've seen that says this up front: If you plan on buying a used sports car, join the club FIRST - THEN start looking.
the other club members have already learned the foibles, and just MIGHT have for sale what you're looking for.
Exactly, glad we share that opinion!
I really appreciate your walk through. As a buyer, this saved me a lot of time!
Information was definitely needed thinking about getting a svr next year
SVR is a hell of a machine, you wouldn't regret it.
Totally agree man, it comes with the territory.
Great video, Connor. Thanks for the tips, especially re: the fuel additive. I'll start that routine. I have a 2016 R Coupe, and so far, no issues...but I like the preventative approach.
P.S. I joined the Jag forum per your suggestion. ;-)

Best most realistic informative video I have seen yet and the icing on the cake for me to go buy one of these bad boys... cheers mate 🍻
Right on, I appreciate that!
Ahh yes, very true! Sneaky they changed the part number and didn’t make it a recall. 👍🏼
Hows your F type holding up mate ? Id like to see how it has treated you so far ? Im about to offload my E class coupe & looking at the F type 2015/2016 vintage.
Is the spreadsheet you created publicly available? Would LOVE a copy!
Well done, good advice there! A couple of comments though from someone who's had the V6 engine for more than 3 years:
- The most common problem by far with these engines wasn't mentioned in the video - the coolant system and water pump.

Looking at buying an F type before Xmas, really helpful well made video. Thanks!
Right on! Good luck with your search!
That car eats rear tires! And yes the sound system is a little underwhelming to be honest. Thankfully the exhaust sound amazing!
Skrrrt Garage yeah but it’s not because I spin or beat on them. I was driving Norma and they wore. Love your channel ♥️

I drive a 2017 F-Pace V6. Amazing car, drives like a sporty sedan and never had any problems. But like you said I did my research, joined forums, waited few months for the right one, checked everything I can before I bought it and that paid well off.
That’s smart man, good move
Yeah, your advice is spot and that's what I do too when I make an important purchase: Research. You can still follow your heart and get a good vehicle or product of your favorite brand or styling if you do your research, take your time, find the right one, know what you are getting and ready to deal with it. You will definitely enjoy it in the end!
So true! Hope you enjoying the f pace and thanks for the comments!
I hear you, if I had one thing I didn’t like about the f type it would be the speakers. Thankfully the exhaust makes up for them lol
The O2 sensor was an honorable mention lol. Completely agree, I think they really tried to disprove the reliability naysayers with the F-Type
I’ve owned an XE since end of 2018 and been so great. This list is so small for issues, I’d be very happy with those problems compared to something more significant.
DUDE YOU KILLED IT!!! GREAT VIDEO, VERY THOROUGH !
Thanks! Appreciate it
Had my 2011 supersport since new now it has 90k on it replaced water pump and coolant hoses diffrential oil and still blowing doors off other Cars. I love my Big Cat !
That’s what I’m talking about! Right on!
Viewer from Canada. Super helpful/useful video. Ordered my designed 2021 F-Type P300 today. Will look out for these issues.
Great! Enjoy the new car 👍🏼
Just bought mine 2 months ago I love it
V6 version actually encounters much fewer engine problems due to less heat and better cooling (V6S).
So true man, almost everycar can be a little bit of a crapshoot.
That’s wild man! Glad they covered it though
what 3rd party warranty company did you have?? I'm actually looking online for 3rd party warranties.
Where did you get the warranty?
This is awesome man!! I’m fancying this car too for myself one day. So thank you for this.
No problem man! You won’t regret buying one!
Thanks, you reminded me that I needed to buy fuel system cleaner.
This is a great video. I’m getting a 2015 f-type R. Good to see what to look out for.
Posted on here over a year ago about my F Type being returned because the diff had gone. Got another one April 2021..now at 12900 miles and I need a new supercharger pulley tensioner. ! Fortunately it’s covered under an extended warranty. Not a great deal of luck so far! But I still love it.

Picking up a 16 tmrw so stoked
Drove a 2019 F-Type, was thinkin of swappin my 2018 Z06. Just couldn't do it, not yet anyway. The F-Type is freakin bad ass! Just still attached to the Vette. Maybe one day...
Awesome video man. Thanks.
2018 zo6 is pretty awesome man, I don’t blame you! One day you’ll have to try the f type though!
Same here, I got a C7 but it's hard to switch to Jags. Corvettes are more reliable in my opinion and the parts + Maintinance is much much cheaper. And you can find spare parts and sell it easier and faster. C7 looks bad ass too and it's catchy to the eyes. It looks like a Ferrari but the Jag looks awesome too
Excellent video. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Thanks for the comment!
I just bought one. LOVE it!
Congrats!
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for letting me know!
Your vehicle game is really sick.
Good video..watched everything. Good tips. The only thing is you never really directly answered the question: "Is the car reliable?"
Agreed, thanks for the comment 👍🏼
Bro TY! I really want to buy one of these cars. I'm going to look out for everything you mentioned.
No problem! Thanks for the comment
Fire content Connor! I just finished watching this for the second time
Thanks 🙏🏼
Jaguar f type is my dream car thanks for the video
It’s a beast, thanks for the comment!
If you're looking for content, then how about trying a 2016 R, that way we know there is nothing more to the vehicle other than AWD...that it is an identical model, just with the addition of AWD 😉🤘🏻
I need to know man! 😂😂😂
The only F-Type R I've ever driven, was a 2015.
I switch between Lucas injector cleaner and BG44k injector cleaning. I put the links in the description of the video.
@@skrrtgarage3922 Forgive my ignorence but any reason why you switch between injector cleaner and cleaning and what is the difference.
No problem at all brother, I switch back and forth because I’ve seen research that suggests Lucas injector cleaner is the best. However, members on the jaguar forms like BG 44k. So I alternate lol
Thank you bro I really was looking for this information thx
Thanks for the comment!
