As someone who rides everyday and relies on there bike to commute to work, the Himalaya has too many mechanical problems, every owner of one I have spoken to has had multiple issues. The BMW was so viby at 100kmph on the motorway that the mirrors were useless, I really didn't enjoy my weekend with the baby GS. I am disappointed that the Vstrom 250 has been discontinued, I found this a good ride, it just needed a more comfortable seat.

Dealer and RE didn't like hearing the negatives, such a shame I loved the engine. I've got an AT now but the vsteom had the same engine as the inazuma a great reliable engine. I would rank the CB500x as #2 on the list and the V-Strom 650 as #1. I put 58,000 miles on a 2014 CB500x and I must say it is a fantastic little bike. Enough grunt for fun until you get up to 70 MPH. Fantastic fuel economy (nearly 70 MPG and 275 miles/tank), comfortable seat and riding position and very reliable. That 47 hp engine is really lacking at higher speeds though. Traded it in for 2020 V-Strom 650 XT. Perfect do it all bike! (Except serious off-road stuff.) The 645cc, 70 hp v-twin engine is a gem and known for its bullet proof reliability. Uses a little more fuel than the Honda but still economical. (50- 60 MPG and 250 miles/tank). The V-Strom is a lot more capable at higher speeds and still has enough power to pass vehicles quickly and easily. The V-Strom has much better brakes and suspension than the Honda in my opinion.
Nothing has the perfect mix of all round utility like the V-Strom 650. Can’t wait to see what Suzuki do for an encore with the 700cc parallel twin replacement.

It depends on your skill level and experience on larger dual sport bikes, and the type of riding you expect to be mostly doing. I rode XR650L's exclusively from 1994 till 2019. I done 500+ miles on its first day. Ride it in ALL weathers and it takes it. only now changing the tyres and brake pads. It's a keeper. if you get the 19 model I'd recommend a taller windshield tho.
Beautifully edited and very informative video. There is a motorcycle called the Xpulse 200 (sold by hero motorcorp- Indian manufacturer). It costs less than 1700 pounds in India. Not available in UK yet. It is a very capable ADV at a superb price.
The Benelli TRK may have Italian design - but it's not Benelli's design. Thing looks like they put a Multistrada in the office Xerox machine at 85% size :D
This covers almost every adventure bike from all the major manufactures. Nice diplomatic way to stay in the good books of all of them. This is exactly why reviews from sites like yours are no longer of any value. They are just a marketing gimmick.
If Kawasaki ever puts the ninja 400 engine in the versus x and keeps the price the same they may dominate this class, low weight, relatively high power, reliability, spoked wheels, and cool(temperature) and comfortable chassis. The only negatives for the 300 are pretty low ground clearance, but who really takes these types of bikes on single track, windscreen buffeting, (easy fix 30$ accessory clip on), hard seat (air hawk) and lack of passing power. Get consumers that passing power and boom, they will really start selling. The ninja 400 engine makes 44 hp at the wheel dyno, vs 31 for the 300 and also doesn't have to be reved so high to make that power. Let's do it Kawasaki !
yeah i dont feel like i completely agree with all of this, the chassis is definitely bit low for more aggressive off road riding but the dings in my added bash guard say its good enough but that keeps you from riding past the point of oops, the wind screen for me is fine but im less than six feet tall, the seat definitely benefited from an mesh cover on long days (400 plus miles) more for ventilation rather then softening. the power is adequate even for the thousand plus miles ive done with two up riding with gear on multi day camping trips. ive even done solo 800 miles days. id rather it be a bit lighter and have longer service intervals than more power. ive had significantly more powerful bikes and they are great fpr their intended purpose/audience and sure there is always a time where a bit more power could be helpful or wanted but thats any bike. this one just doesnt need it, it sits perfectly happy in mamma bear territory, it just right, not too much, not too little...its just right for my expectations.
Had the 2018 BMW G310GS after 20years off from riding. 20k mi and good starter bike @ 65mpg. India build quality was not great and reliable, I had to throw Akro race pipe on for more grunt/power. I ride it very hard to its’ limits so it’s time to go. Next month get the Ducati Multi V2S as a step up. I am keeping the BMW to convert to a supermoto. Solid fun but underpowered and zero tech.
Well, I just bought my 8th new klr...I've been buying them since their inception...even when I owned one of my seven new Harleys, I typically kept a klr in the 2nd stall...I did buy a verseys 300 a couple years ago just for giggles, and it was a nice little bike..very high reving however....my response to this video is simply why would you suggest a 300 versys and not a word about the new klr, one of the most popular duel sports in the history of dual sports...I can only surmise, sadly, he doesn't really know what he's talking about...I'm 67, and have bought over 30 bikes in my half century of riding....The one thing to ask yourself when watching these videos, who's funding them and does the author really know much about that of which he speaks. I believe I can answer one of those...Safe travels!

Would have agreed w/ you a yr ago. Until I talked my brother in to 390 ADV over KLR for ADV trip. I was on my 790 ADV R which I loved, we found the 390 was good at 1 thing, value. Not great off-road, low clearance when we were in deeper ruts, anemic on street w/ no power & wind protection, struggled more when loaded w/ gear & as a KTM owner can’t say it’s more reliable the KLR. While it technically “did” the trails & roads it just took the fun out of it, especially once he felt the diff of 790 R. Sold it as soon as we got back home
If your going heavy trail, especially single track, if you got 790 ADV R, no comparison in capability to Versys. 790 R is exceptional off-road, a giant dirt bike w/ more power than you can put down, on the fly adj TC & excellent WP shocks. Road w/ body on Versys 650, KTM also smokes it on street. But…, KTM is much more $$$
Can't argue the V-Strom for the road but I do think you missed a "trick" by not including the PR7 from AJP., powerful, reliable, affordable, simple and super capable on any surface.
I’m 6’5” 220 and ride a Versys 650. It costs about $80 to lower the pegs an inch and raise the front of the seat about a half inch which are the only mods I find necessary for taller riders and I’m comfortable all day.
Definitely stay away from BMW & KTM 390 ADV. I’m 6’1” 220 #, took 390 on ADV trip, too small for me, didn’t handle being weighed down w/ gear, bottomed out off-road. I would go V-Strom or KLR 650, sit on 1 at dealer
I really can't understand why no one has gotten the Small adventure bike right yet. The 390 Adventure is probably the closest. Himalayan looks awesome but lacking power. Would absolutely love to see a Versys with the 400cc engine and a bit more ground clearance. That would be an absolute winner. Also not sure why you included the 250 rally and not the 300 Rally.
The Benelli sucks, so does the ninja 350 (thr engine is too highrevving for an adventure bike). The Himalayan, the versus 650, cb500x. Choose between these three.
Must admit I found it a strange mix of bikes given the video title. That said it was nice to see some smaller and cheaper bikes included, and the problem is more in the name of the video than the bikes. If the Versys 650 is going to be included then I think the CFMoto 650 MT and or GT are also worthy of a mention. In my experience I find them better put together than the Benelli and for most ofthe time they are pretty good all round bikes.
I can agree with you but the CF Moto is a recent brand, and placing that in the video could not make much sense, should receive a honourable mention but like I said, is some recent brands and the durability could not be as good as we think
Someone described the Tiger 660 as a sports bike with high bars, I have ridden one and would agree. Also, like the CB500X, if you are up to 6' tall the Tiger 660 will fit you fine, if (like me) you are over 6' then you could find the foot controls a little cramped.
kawasaki versys 650 got rated number 1? unbelievable, its an old heavy machine with zero off road capability and no real update since 2015 from a company that has no interest in european adv market (no klx 300 &650, no update on adv product for eu), whats wrong with honda nc750x then? the manual model is cheaper than versys if that what you after? and voge 650 which uses bmw 650gs engine?
@@anotheryoutuber_ Exactly! Any ride can be adventure, so this bike category does not mean anything. IMHO Versys 650 is a road touring bike, which happens to resemble a dual sport bike. How is the CRF250L Rally on the list for "twenny-twenny-two" when it's been replaced by the CRF300?
I was wondering about the same.
as a '19 650 owner of 4 years I can testify to that. It was my first "big bike" stepping up from a 125cc after 1 year.
It's a fantastic bike and really does do it all. I done 500+ miles on its first day. Ride it in ALL weathers and it takes it. only now changing the tyres and brake pads. It's a keeper.
if you get the 19 model I'd recommend a taller windshield tho.
V-Strom or Versys?
Tried the baby beemer. Took me 15minutes to decide it was a piece of cr@p. Getting a versys300 in a couple of weeks.
Beautifully edited and very informative video.
There is a motorcycle called the Xpulse 200 (sold by hero motorcorp- Indian manufacturer). It costs less than 1700 pounds in India. Not available in UK yet. It is a very capable ADV at a superb price.
What´s your opinion on Zontes T2 310 or 350 ?
My favourite channel
The Benelli TRK may have Italian design - but it's not Benelli's design. Thing looks like they put a Multistrada in the office Xerox machine at 85% size :D
This covers almost every adventure bike from all the major manufactures. Nice diplomatic way to stay in the good books of all of them. This is exactly why reviews from sites like yours are no longer of any value. They are just a marketing gimmick.
First like love you guys keep rocking ❤️👍🔥
Thank you
Yeaaaah Versys 650s are the best!
A Chinese bike that has my attention is the Voge 500DS.
It is on my shortlist, together with the CB500X and maby a used NC750X.
Versys X300. It’s a baby. But it goes almost anywhere…good price too.
Missing the 650 MT
Love my V Strom. My last bike.
What about the voge ds ?
What about the cf650 adventura?
Best value adventure - for value and budget would have to be the Honda Cross Trail now back to fat expensive horses popular in Europe?
What about yamaha tenere 700 ?
i almost agree with the list but, no Triumph tiger 660? you missed that excellent bike bro .
This is someone reading the manufacturer's sale's pitch
Had the 2018 BMW G310GS after 20years off from riding. 20k mi and good starter bike @ 65mpg. India build quality was not great and reliable, I had to throw Akro race pipe on for more grunt/power. I ride it very hard to its’ limits so it’s time to go. Next month get the Ducati Multi V2S as a step up. I am keeping the BMW to convert to a supermoto. Solid fun but underpowered and zero tech.
It's annoying how with other bmw bikes you can spec all the good extras but not with the 310.
been here since, and still waiting for the production of handa's CB4X concept. sport tourer with inline 4 engine... who's with me.
24.5 crank horsepower for the Himalayan. Mine made 20.5 at the wheel.
Lucky it made that I think the honda crf250L is 17hp at the wheel.
I have a 85hp bmw f800gs 85hp it's 71hp at the wheel.
Do value motorcycle for tours plzzz
Plz
We'll consider it for a future video! Any particular bike you're wanting to know more about?
@@visordown interceptor 650, ktm adventure 390, ninja 300, CFmoto 650 GT, value bikes plzzz
Versys is not adventure bike and much better is Tracer 7, both pure road bike. The best Adventure is V-Strom 650 value/money.
What about honda nc750x.???? .. There some guys over passing 200000km and still running perfectly...
The KTM 390 adventure, $6100, with more horsepower and lighter KLR 659 for $9000. Good entry level or occasional adventure bike!
KLR $7000
KTM 390s are good in spec sheet but aren't that reliable in the end
@@pahwasaki9389 I also don't like this displacement for adventure bikes because these tiny engines on the highway means numb hands after an hour. Middleweight adventure bikes are the category to watch imo.
@@pahwasaki9389 Yep, unfortunate first-hand experience here as well.. :(
Would have agreed w/ you a yr ago.
CRF250? not very 2022 with the intro of the CRF 300 surely, or have they kept the 250 in the UK to fit into a restriction limit?
would define these bikes as Soft Expensive Trail bikes?
Great .. Changed my old Kawasaki Versys 650 (2012 ) for KTM 790 Adventure ( 2019 ) Now i feel bad :(
If your going heavy trail, especially single track, if you got 790 ADV R, no comparison in capability to Versys.
Thanks, but it would be nice if you mentioned the weight to. ;o)
What about klr 650?
I think you’re better off buying an older used flagship AVD bike for around $7,000 to $10,000 than a new cheaper bike.
Possibly. Though, those flagship bikes still have the flagship running costs - unless of course you're capable of maintaining one yourself.
All good, what every one is waiting for is Ninja 1000sx vs GSXS 1000 GT
That will be a bombshell video that will result with : we really can't say which is better, they are both great bikes.
@@lovelessissimo indeed
I wish people outside India could experience Hero XPULSE 200
Cb500x for me
Interesting
What's the best one for someone that's 6'4" tall, 215lbs, with a 34in inseam?
A giraffe..
Hi! V- Strom for sure!
@@mihaimihai9254 i love v Strom too.. but the problem is that they never tried to keep up with the market.. it looks dated
T7????
Honda crf 250? The 300 has been out for some time now.
Dude sounds A LOT LIKE Jamie from Alltimegaming
I really can't understand why no one has gotten the Small adventure bike right yet. The 390 Adventure is probably the closest. Himalayan looks awesome but lacking power. Would absolutely love to see a Versys with the 400cc engine and a bit more ground clearance. That would be an absolute winner.
Also not sure why you included the 250 rally and not the 300 Rally.
I think the KTM 490 Adventure will be the closest to a lightweight powerful ADV ride
H I M A L A Y A N
Vstrom 650 XT
Sorry if made in China no thank you
Soo the Tracer 7 does count ?
300L Rally
Triumph Tiger 660?
Someone described the Tiger 660 as a sports bike with high bars, I have ridden one and would agree. Also, like the CB500X, if you are up to 6' tall the Tiger 660 will fit you fine, if (like me) you are over 6' then you could find the foot controls a little cramped.
I need a 400cc
Crf 400
And
400 gs
Outdated before you published this.
Crf250l is dual sport or enduro not adv.
I don’t know about the others but your V Strom prices are way off by a grand!
kawasaki versys 650 got rated number 1? unbelievable, its an old heavy machine with zero off road capability and no real update since 2015 from a company that has no interest in european adv market (no klx 300 &650, no update on adv product for eu), whats wrong with honda nc750x then? the manual model is cheaper than versys if that what you after? and voge 650 which uses bmw 650gs engine?
And cf moto mt best value and great bike but is out of the list .
@norman Xu , I agree the nc750 always seems to be left out of these comparisons. Surely it's worthy
I hear KTM is working on a hardcore 390 Adventure with proper off road goodies..🤔🤔🤔
ktm490 in the works
@@clydemacdougall1953 Yes, I have been hearing about it for sometime now.Hope to see a test mule soon..🥰😍
Versys 650 whilst an excellent bike, is not an adventure bike - 17in front states that fairly simply.
No research has been done to make this video.
CRF300 has been out for a while already....
There is a CRF 300 (Rally) on the market ....
Versys 650 is not an adventure bike. It's a touring bike! And I should know since I own one ☺️
define adventure...
@@anotheryoutuber_ Exactly! Any ride can be adventure, so this bike category does not mean anything. IMHO Versys 650 is a road touring bike, which happens to resemble a dual sport bike. You can modify it to go off road, but you're better off buying a real dual sport bike (i.e. Kawasaki KLR 650, Yamaha Tenere 700)
@@nderezic i guess id rather have the versys six-fifty with knobbies. being underbiked off road is a bunch of fun and keeps most folks from getting into more than they can chew. one of the reasons i got rid of the klr.
How old is this vid? The CRF is now the 300 L and rally and has been for 9 months or so….comes across as out of touch…
