I’d say instead of scraping the mortar out of the joint the next day go ahead and do it while it’s wet. Saves time and less risk of chipping or scratching the corners.

Agreed here, also I didn't back butter the wall, you get too much thinset on your hands messing with the tile

These days i'm finding it harder and harder to get a decent fixing price and to mitre tiles takes time and time=money. Most people are not prepared to pay extra and i cant do it for free so tile trim it is.

Beautiful work and thank you for letting us know where you start with pricing because no one does and I have been doing tile 25 years and find it hard to make anything close to what I make installing planks or click flooring which is my bread and butter. Being 54 I would like to focus on more tile but either have to get faster or charge more lol.
Idk where you’re located but I’m the same way. LVP and commercial jobs are where we make most of our income. I got out of tile about 6 years ago because I was literally doing it for free. Crews of like 7 guys pushed us out of the market within a year. They were doing 1600sqft in 2 long days, we just couldn’t compete with that. Seems like your making good money but at the end of the week after expanses it just doesn’t pay enough. I’m thinking about getting back in but only doing higher end work. Charge more so I can take my time and actually make a living at it.

RAIMONDI BC45 to perform miter cut 45° is a tool that seems doing great and easy work. Never tried since I am working only on my houses but if the tailing is for living Raimondi is huge helper. Thank you for videos!

At 1:17 “I’m not a “pro pro” guy. But you definitely are. Then immediately you perfectly explain how to hold the grinder and the movement and I’ve been looking at tile videos for weeks and most people skip and the detailed yet so necessary information. I practiced and was able to get it so thank you so much. I haven’t polished yet but do you think i could use a hand diamond polisher 200 or 150 instead of polishing pads? I’m on a mega budget. I got scammed so I’m doing it myself

I’ve done both and it’s good to know both but being able to do them on a tile saw is probably more useful to know especially once this fad of large field tile fades. Doing them with a grinder isn’t a good option for anything except large porcelain tile & some natural stone.

Nice work and I’m going to do this vs Schutler trim. But what if your corner isnt perfectly plumb? Like 1/8 maybe 1/4 off. Can you make up for it with thicker thinset?

Nice video on miter installation. Regarding grouting the miter. It seems many in community as well as grout mfgs recommend caulking instead of grouting to avoid cracks in miter edge. My thinking is caulking does not look as good and clean or match well with wall grout lines. I am also thinking grout would be more robust and protect miter edge from chipping more. Be interested in your opinion and if you have a preferred grout and/or technique for grouting miter edges

Beautiful project! Hey a Q: can't I just lay my tile upside down on my tile saw and mitre the edge incrementally until mostly complete, then finish with the hand grinder? I bought a used ridgid 8 inch saw and tried that just now with 24 inch porcelain. gets it close to dimension for mitering at the factory edge. I guess there is some risk having the face of the tile on the rubber mat which collects tile shards somewhat. I'm planning on about 40 linear feet of miters in my master bath. It's a lot of tiles to miter, and I have only used Schluter edge before for outside corners, but this mitered edge looks way more refined.

I do not understand the pricing logic at all. Why against total sq ft vs the linear foot where you have mitre??
@@ryanmaclean5621labor only, for me. The tile costs are all over the board- can’t include that variable in your pricing. I start basic sf pricing at $20 for shower, and increase with features and tile/ stone choices. Hope that helps someone a bit- since no one helped me….

I’ve been looking for a video showing how the tile is measured to allow for the overhang when mitering. Whats your distance past the corners. I assume the thickness of thinset effects that so the grout lines stay vertically lined up on the other end of the tile.
Exactly, mitre the first tile and size it "close enough" by estimating the room for the thinset for the second tile and set it, then drop the second tile. They're both the same thickness tile so you just have to get the thinset thicknes right. Ideally the inside corners would both point directly at the corner of the substrate but doesn't have to, you can just compensate with more thinset and cut the length of the second tile when you dry fit it. (FYI better to mitre a little over 45 degrees, like 50 degrees, leaves a bit of a gap and wiggle room and easier to set and fill with colored epoxy paste later instead of grout..)
At first I thought you were kind of odd back buttering the wall and troweling the tile, but now realize it makes sense. Troweling takes more thinset, especially for large format tiles, why not do that on a horizontal tile vs a vertical wall? Less lifting and spreading thinset on a wall.
Ps. Please buy two suction cups so it’s easier to handle those large tiles.

Awesome job!! when measuring for first your tile before your mitre how much do you allow for when using the 1/2" trowel? i.e if you have a 12mm porcelain tile how much extra would you allow for the depth of the thinnest to make sure you have enough of an overlap and that the corners meet up?

For the mitre groove, why would not use something small like a toothpick to groove out the thinset while its soft VS grinding it out (like you mentioned) when its hard?

Dampen the back of the tile , will give you more open time with thinset .Blue painters tape works just as well as duct tape , Also wear a mask or grind outside , not good for the lungs young fella . Looking forward to your next vid

Hi, a budding contractor here, what was the "little fine tool" that you used to scratch out the thinset so you can put grout in the mitered corner? Is there a video on this? Would love to know, so I can see this clearly from start to finish.
Carbide pick? I’d be terrified to bring any metal near those edges after a few hours….I’d clean them with a plastic wedge after it skins over…
You can use a razor knife. Just be careful. But yeah like the other guy said, wait until it dries for a couple hours and you can get it out east
Doesn't ths compromise the strength of the tile, especially on a corner? Seems to me it will be very easy to chip once installed.
I think when you fill the gaps between the tiles and if done well then it shouldn't be a problem
try the grinder with the tile edge sitting just on the outside edge of a plywood board table . you'll cut a bit into the meat of the plywood and this holds your blade straight and take less hand strength to hold the grinder steady. you're welcome.
