  • This is one of the most challenging niches that I have ever build and I am very proud of it. Building a custom shower niche can make your shower priceless. Here i will show you how to build a shower niche. we do not like prefabricated shower niche installation. this tile tutorial will show you how to do the whole thing.

Professional tile setter here. would be easier to do the mosaic in the niche first, then do the tile surrounding the niche. The mosaic is harder to cut perfectly. When you do the tile surrounding the tile could cover the imperfections of the mosaic.

@@julyparin4432 There are a thousand variables here. But short answer, you should've had it done with the install. You'll never get it to look right now, even if you COULD pay someone enough to do it.

I've watched a lot of these videos. We are doing a new build here. You are the first one I heard say how important it is to look at the patterns and matching it up. My little jobs on backsplashes taught me that there is some art in acheiving the right look.
    Kudos to you sir!

I have a very important question. Were the niche interior tiles miter cut also or no they were not? I am assuming because the four borders were already extra 5/8” that they did not need to be miter cut as well?

@@joshrosen6604I just asked this in the comments but I don’t think he miter them since the outside borders already had a miter so it kind of hid it? Or I’m wrong and the inside tiles of niche had to be miter as well the 5/8 or it was just miter at the length of tile needed and didn’t have to add extra 5/8?

Very nice finish. 2 questions. (1) on the mitered corners, did you leave space for grout, or do you keep the corners tight (wouldn't water potentially get it in), (2) did you use a 60 grit diamond hand pad to soften the edges?

What’s the name of the thin set that you use? What’s the water to thin set ratio when you want it thick for mosaics? How much work time do you have when the consistency is that thick? Do you have to work fast so that it doesn’t set too quickly?
And my final question. Do you back butter your mosaics?
