- India and the United States have a pretty tight relationship, but maybe the U.S. needs India more than India needs it? Like all long-term relationships, this one's had a lot of ups and downs, but they've stuck together. For the U.S., India has been the nuclear and economic powerhouse in Asia that can be used to push back against expanding Chinese influence. For India, the U.S. is a good military and economic ally. But that's about it, because it seems India isn't looking to rely on anyone - including its biggest ally.

@Arid That may have been a small factor, but the Chinese withdrew because they had met their goal and captured the part of India they wanted.....it's doubtful if Mao had ever planned or even thought of a full scale invasion of India, knowing fully well that India with it's strong democratic values of self governance since it's Independence from British rule, would have been very hard to convert to communism....such an invasion, even without US help to India, would have been a disaster for Mao and China who was already suffering internally from his policies and the Korean war where nearly a million Chinese soldiers had died..

India has history of being richest country in the world until British invaded, looted and divided it. India is not just developing its reclaiming its superpower. Western society is already feeling insecure when Indians get job over them for their talent. If we can take your jobs we can take away everything we want. You know why? By the same logic, some west and central African rulers were the richest in the world, and in recorded history for that matter, but look at where Africa is now. Its situation is getting better, but because of colonization etc. its nowhere near where it could be economically and technologically, and sadly probably never will be. Also, what does it matter if you're good at a game when someone else makes and has the power to change the rules? The issue with nationalism is that it makes people think they're something special, which can easily lead to them becoming pawns. India's economy isn't the best, mostly due to population and the after effects of colonization, but still India can't "regain" what it never really had. The global economy is centered in the west (not manufacturing though, which is mostly China), and money isn't backed by anything tangible nowadays (there's not enough gold, silver, etc. to back currency; thus the existence of things like Bitcoin), which means that its Western nations that ultimately pull the strings on the value of money, which is all arbitrary in reality. Because currency doesn't have value unless the West gives it value, how's the rest of the world going to "reclaim" it? Also, Indians getting jobs over others in the west only builds western economies, and makes the West more appealing to Indians, further growing the influence of western powers and diminishing India's power. What's sad about international relations nowadays is that its all about who gets to pull the strings, and who gets a larger slice of influence, and a byproduct of such is people thinking that their something great because of a perception of superiority or "talent". Though, I gotta say, I love India, no matter how many empires, economies, or nations fail, its culture still withholds.

Based on the marks you get to choose which country you want to go to. Trust me, Australia ranks so low down in those options, so most indians working outside don't even give a damn. Spire32 ! Jinnah proposed that India actually are composed of two nations & so wanted partition, creating a separate nation for Muslims that never existed in history before. Indian leaders rejected two nation thesis, but when Jinnah began direct action, the other leaders were forced to accept his thesis for the safety of people who were getting killed in lakhs. Country was partitioned. But none can tell Muslims in India to leave this country & go to a newly created Pakistan.These are committed to rejecting the two nation thesis. The Muslims got divided equally in numbers to India, Pakistan & Bangladesh. Because India was for all, not just for Hindus & definitely not for driving out Muslims, Kashmir state opted for India (Sheikh Abdulla was responsible), there were always who oppose the popular view though. That strength of Indian argument is the conviction, supplied to India's actions in this regard. If we are convinced & accepted Two nation thesis, we would be convinced that Kashmir should be with Pakistan. It amounts to accepting Pakistan's thesis & following it. Pakistan too misled rest of the world that 'Pakistan for Muslims only & Hindustan for Hindus only'. And they all voted in UN for Pakistan because their thinking accepted too, this 'simplistic' logic. Yea independence was simply a joke. It's just a huge mental trick on most people like the theater of politics.
It's not like they gave up the business' they set up to take the resources from their colonies.
They just realized once we force everyone into our economic model and write the laws the way we want, we can take what we want "legally" without having to hold an empire by force. (because that meant fighting people in the colonies and a growing section of their own people who are vocally against empire)
But the reality is you can control other nations through cultural colonization and economic colonization far easier than sending in armies. There are not too many high earning positions or fields where being more like your former colonizers isn't a huge advantage even now. And if you look at things like modern Bollywood, you can clear the level of cultural colonization that exists within India.

Countries don't 'need' or not 'need' each other (what ever 'need' means to AJ+) because they have decided to be isolationist or not. Countries cooperate when they have strongly aligned interests and conflict when they have opposing interests. India and the US have strongly aligned interests so if they want to achieve those interests then they 'need' each other. Additionally even if that was the case, how does that mean that the USA 'needs' India? To what end and why. Apart from a basic history of Indian/US relations which we could have gotten a better version from Wikipedia this video says very little about the need of one for the other.
Every US govt survives on war. Period. With the war on ISIS almost being brought to a close, there is no other green pastures(countries to war with) for the US. Trump has made it clear that USA doesn't need to be the moral police of the whole wide world. So he is far from interested in starting a new war. To balance the defence side of things, he has increased the trade deals with India to $600 billion within the next 6 months. So yes, USA does need India more than India needs them.

Yes, I was actually thinking of recommending a Caspian Report video. I suspect that the realist analytical prism that Shirvan uses on Caspian is not compatible with the more... well I am not so sure what analytical tools AJ+ uses for their geo-political analysis because they dont do any real analysis. Instead they just give us history... which I suspect kinda makes them Constructivists or Postcolonial in their approach to international relations. Personally I think the realist or realpolitik approach of Caspain or Stratfor is far more informative and robust.
