Sony Xperia 5 IV Review: Sorry Sony!

- I've been using the Sony Xperia 5 IV for a while and sorry Sony, I just can't recommend this device to anyone yet. It's still almost there as it has been for a while when it comes to its camera capability. The Xperia 5 IV is a brilliant device when it comes to its design, display quality, battery life, and even processing performance, but when it comes to the camera, it takes bad photos unless you have the patience to shoot pro mode and video is sub-par with awful zoom and stabilization. Will Sony get there with its Xperia devices? Time will tell.

I have Xperia 5 Iv in about 2 mounts, a love this phone, its quick, lookin good, light, and yes the camera is not 4 everybody but if you learn how to use it you never want another cam!!!Peace
Thank you. That patience is key for the camera
The camera complaints are probably because the photos don't have the iPhone AI making them look a certain way people are used to. The sony phone camera looks like a DSLR.
Again a reviewer don't getting what this phone is made for. It's made for those who wants to learn photography the right way. If your not want to learn that, yes then it's not something for that person. This camera don't cheat, that's the thing and idea. Sony har the philosophy that this phone still get people interested in their mirrorless cameras and then you know all about this systems.
So who is this phone made for besides photographers and photographers that wanna learn. Well that's gamers and people who actually watches media or listening to music in their phones.
And to take photo in portrait I can understand if it's a selfie or another persons. But today people used it for everything, and god it's just annoying. So god for trying to get people to stop this annoying behaviour.
Thanks for your comment. I think from a reviewers' perspective, it's a smartphone with a camera module and computational photography; yes you can use it to learn photography "the right way" - the right way doesn't exist by the way as it's down to your preference after you learn the basics which you don't need a phone for - however, it's a point-to-shoot camera in your pocket that should be able to do the basics. Take stabilisation for example, will you constantly walk around with a gimbal or tripod in the name of "the right way"? No, the phone has to perform the basic function of taking photos and recording videos without any hassle, the professional side of it should be the added bonus.
then get a camera, people want easy......
@@reevosss7 pro cameras aren't easy.
@@GadgetsBoy lots of reviewers says the video stabilization is great?
It’s not. But feel free to buy it and rest yourself
I've had xperias before. Currently have a Samsung ultra s21 and thinking of getting this as the Samsung us so big and heavy and the battery doesn't last all day......good idea or not? (I take very few picture, so is the camera good for occasional use?)
I think all round you can get it but the camera is just where I can’t trust it or recommend it. Because even when the light is good, pictures aren’t so great compared to even your s21 ultra
@GadgetsBoy based on your review I think I'll wait until next year, could well be the next generation improves on it!
I really hope they do
I came from a pixel 7 and although the Google software makes photo taking easy, I don't mind the pics produced from the Sony. A bit of editing and time and the pics look amazing and more natural for me. But the two winning factors for me is the better battery which is amazing and the form factor for one handed use, without risking dropping it when re-placing the phone in my hand.
And it’s exactly what I feel. Great design and battery and even the display but wished the camera didn’t require that level of extra work to get good pictures. I want to be able to chose when I want point to shoot and when I have more time to tweak and compose my pictures
@@GadgetsBoy agree one hundred percent. If I have time to edit then great, but that occasion that needs just a point and shoot moment always crops up. First Sony I've had but I'm happy with the change. Great review and a new sub here 👍
wich of both has better display? Is there a lot of difference? And what about speakers?
@@Zinnet85 the pixel speakers and screen are acceptable 100%, but the Sony beats it in all honesty
got this phone a few weeks ago, the only thing im not happy with is that it can only shoot up to 16:9 size photos unlike my previous phone Xperia 10 III up to 21:9
This has an amazing camera 📷
I almost never, NEVER shoot anything, video or photo, in portrait mode. Not at all. Ever.
you're one of the old school ones. As platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter) grows, and the new generation are buying these devices, they almost never film in landscape unless they are filming for UA-cam. UA-cam shorts is also encouraging more and more Vertical format
@@GadgetsBoy no, I understand aspect ratio and how we view and feel the world. That is not it at all. I've used Facebook and Instagram since the beginning, and most of it is and has been getting more embarrassing. It's becoming less and less beautiful, engaging, memorable, valuable, personal, and worth saving. It's temporary, gratuitous, and aesthetically uninformed, and this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with being of a certain "school", old, young, or otherwise. It's understanding art, aesthetics, philosophy, and synthesizing that understanding into a beautiful art of one's own, and that facilitates connections with other humans and sentient lifeforms, which takes a hell of a lot more than automatically agreeing that, for example, a hole punch or a notch in a display is acceptable. That is the most infuriating thing I have ever seen in my life. Would you buy a TV or a computer or laptop or video monitor with a chunk missing from its display? Of course not. That's totally unacceptable. And that's only one aspect of what's wrong with the whole blind acceptance of whatever these companies want to throw at potential customers, who, through evil marketing and corporate boards, foist this garbage, that nobody asked for in the first place, onto the public. Right now we have no choice but to buy a phone the size of a "tiny house" (if I want to stay relevant to this made up, irrelevant garbage that people click on all day to make a handful of evil, manipulative people rich), and which has a giant hole in the screen, made for selfies. Embarrassing. Totally embarrassing.
@@GadgetsBoy and TikTok has serious international privacy issues, and may very well no longer be allowed in the US for this very reason, and Twitter is being buried alive in a matter of hours by a hilariously self important and self aggrandizing, self promoting huckster, and self described "genius", clambering for the huge workforce he just fired to return and save his face, and about $60 million of his own money. He's actually, in fact, a total moron. Making phones that are extremely expensive yet don't last, and that are optimized to serve the interests of greedy, selfish, self important megalomaniacs first and foremost, and at my expense, in terms of my purse and my privacy, at the very least, is totally unacceptable.
Question for you on the hole punch situation, how would you implement it, considering most people use front facing cameras arguably more than they use the main lenses?
Me neither; I use landscape mode and if sharing pictures or video they're in landscape mode too.
I've recently upgraded from the Oppo Find X2 Pro to the Xperia I IV and I have been impressed with it so far.
The Photography Pro app is quite easy to use and I'm liking having a proper shutter button again for photos and videos.
Does it overheats for UA-cam or browsing etc?
Yes
@@GadgetsBoyI installed Android 14 and don't notice any heating. I recorded over 10 minutes of 4k video and still no overheating message. I think it is fixed.
Waiting for someone from their HQ to wake up . Their pricing for the phones remarkably awful
Hey tomi remember me?
No
@@GadgetsBoy I'm xoxo from twitter I'm a big fan from India
The longer
long rant
I am shocked people still say sony cameras are lacking. You guys are lacking skills. Sony is for enthusiasts and automode pics are just as decent as on any other phone which takes average to ugly pics, at least sony has natural colors and not ultra saturated colors and fake processing BS. I'm sick of these reviews. It's a camera app so it works like a camera, omg GROUNDBREAKING. LEARN HOW TO TAKE PICTURES.
Ok.
At ua-cam.com/video/597uEwVf60U/v-deo.html, that's just the information about the symbol that pops up, if the phone gets hot, the phone isn't hot at that moment. I worked in IT, please guys, read those messages, not just click "OK"
It was actually hot at the point it popped up. Weirdly, if the iPhone was that hot, it stops you from doing certain things including charging and display brightness is lowered to reduce temp.
