I never knew Mick Jagger did backing vocals on the studio version of this song, until somebody told me. When I specifically listen for his voice, it seems so obvious that it's him. Good live version here.

This was a big hit around 1973. Song came on at a restaurant on a date. Girlfriend said song described me.
Moral is that this song has broken up more relationships than any song ever written.
There was speculation that this song was about Mick Jagger. He sings background on the studio version but Carly says the song is not about him. It's actually about Warren Beatty✌
And her career was interrupted by crippling stage fright. Even with a voice like that confidence isn't automatic.

Carly Simon has confirmed that the second stanza is about Warren Beatty. She also has said they doesn’t mean the other stanzas are also about him, but she did not rule it out. At various times, she has said it was not Mick Jagger (or James Taylor, David Bowie, or David Cassidy).
