    Carly Simon had an anxiety disorder that caused terrible stage fright so consider that while watching this. As a child she had a bad stammer when she spoke, but not when she sang. So she sang what she wanted to speak instead and that cured her stammer. She was a brilliant singer/songwriter. The world is a better place for having her in it.

      @Ricky Spanish I am no fan of the rich and privileged, but to imply that because someone grew up wealthy they could not and did not suffer emotional pain doesn't make sense. Are you perhaps envious of the material things that another person had so that you can't see them as a human being? She is not some polluting, warmongering billionaire that we can all look at and say bad person. She is a human being like everyone else, and her songs reflect human emotions that we love to hear and relate to.

    This is such a haunting song. Her upbringing sounds so empty and sad. Even the prospect of marriage has it's hopes clipped. The entire song is like one giant tear that hangs, waiting to drop. Carly Simon has always been one of the most powerful, to the point, song writers. And I agree, her voice is amazing!

    Love that you smiled at the words “…just me first, by myself.” Knew then that you totally resonated with this song. Thanks for sharing your story. Not tired of that at all. Yes, Carly Simon and Carole King - both had big first albums about the same time, early 70’s. They were part of the singer-songwriter/troubadour thing that defined the 70s for many of us.

    Hello Angela: Rest assured, nobody is tired of hearing how and why you relate to certain lyrics. I am delighted to hear that you listened to your instincts, and chose the challenging unkown of personal discovery, over the security of the mundane. It can be wondrous to share your life with a spouse, but nobody requires anyone else to "complete" them. Good on you! 👍👍❤❤

    So happy that you are finding out how talented the women, and men, were back in the 70's and beyond, especially the live performances where you actually see and hear how close they sounded to the original recordings. So many of today's generation have not and probably never will get to feel the emotions you are feeling and expressing to us by hearing these great artists of our generation.

    In fact Carol King and Carly Simon share history with the same man!! He was James Taylor.... When he started an artistic relationship wit Carol King, Carly came with that big hit song called "You're so vain" written for James!..The clue is in the lyrics of the song when Carol refers to him as "flying in his learjet to Nova Scotia to watch a total eclipse of the sun" In fact, James's parents weres born in Nova Scotia, Canada!! Also James Tylor and Carol King shared the same hit "You got a friend" and seems to be they are singing that song in duo in a video in UA-cam if I'm not mistaken... That's life!!

  • @guywill7875
    @guywill7875 2 роки тому +2

    Carly was one brilliant songwriter. Her use of imagery to draw you into the lyric and see exactly what she was feeling was incredible. This song intro you actually can see her in your mind's eye. Some Carly history, her father was Richard L Simon the founder of the publishing house Simon and Schuster a powerhouse in American Publishing and media. Carly grew up in wealth and privilege. Her song You want to marry me is a cynical appraisal of the institution of marriage through the lens of her upbringing and the loneliness she learned from her parents. She walks through snapshots of her life and the way she witnesses the hypocrisy of acceptable married life only to pull back the curtain and look at the damage. She still wants to try. God, know we try and make a marriage work but Carly sings about her trepidation as a woman embarking on a commitment.

    Love your reaction. Love how people relate to it to their own story. Which good songs do. Her describing her parents marriage was like she saw my childhood and teenage years. My dad cheated on my mom I found out and never wanted to get married. But I did finally at age 33. And guess what. He cheated. Probably through the whole marriage. My biggest fear and it all my making sure it didn’t happen didn’t matter. Sometimes I think God knows we have to go through stuff. Had two beautiful kids so I will never call it a mistake. At 49 remarried to a wonderful man. We’ve been together for 9 years now and we are so so happy.

    You have one of the best "reaction" channels because you actually REACT to the songs! Other channels just go through the songs like they are being forced to. Often giving no reaction at all. Just asking for likes and subs!
    If you don't like a song you tell us. When you like a song you tell us why you feel a connection to it.
    As long as YOU feel comfortable sharing your feelings and thoughts, please keep doing it.
    Two songs that might make you feel something are both sung by Phil Collins.
    The first is with GENESIS: "Your Own Special Way" and solo "Don't Let Him Steal Your Heart Away."

    Not surprising that she reminds you of Carol King. They are of the same time. Many of us feel the same. Both strong women, fabulous voices, great lyricists. This is a powerful song with a strong vision. Romantic vs Cynic (or realist). Go with your feelings, your gut. It seems the struggle to find yourself has been echoed by Adele in her latest album.
