- Felicia Day, Ryon Day, and Alan Tudyk join Sean "Day[9]" Plott for an extra special version of Magic: the Gathering.
Today on Spellslingers, Sean and Ryon team up against Alan and Felicia for a game of Two-Headed Giant, a four player variant which pits the pairs in mortal combat. Just kidding, we mean Magic: the Gathering.
Regardless of who wins, in the words of Sean Plott: May you go forth. May you fight the good fight and defeat all the Blues. And of course, may you draw well.
This season, Sean and the gang will be playing with Wizards of the Coast’s new Magic Origins Set, which tells the stories of how five of Magic’s most iconic planeswalkers began their journeys. The Magic Origins Set doesn’t release until July 17th, but you can get an exclusive sneak peak of one of the cards here!

That is one of the straightest curb-stomps I've ever seen in my Magic career. It's a special day when the only damage you take is from your own mana ramp.

This is the biggest curve stomp game of real magic I have ever seen lossett outplays nolen for for 40 mins making killer reads and my managing his resources. Maybe the best legacy player or at least a contender for such a title running a fairly technical list.

Garth Palmer I play with a mainly legacy player who always jokes about how Jund in legacy and modern now runs a couple of blue and white cards because it's more efficient that way.

Spellslingers is back like a wrecking ball (it swung away, but now it's back to knock down your Planeswalker hut) for a MULTIPLAYER BEATDOWN! Alan Tudyk and Felicia Day team up against Sean Plott and Ryon Day. Get ready for exploding goblins, rough ridin' elves, swole warriors, and... some kid named Jace.

+Magic: The Gathering They made mistakes all throughtout the game. At one point he used Jace to draw, and didnt discard. Several times they attacked with creatures on the first turn they came out without having haste.

Even with Sean's "accidental" not discarding a card to Jace with the first activation. It didn't really matter in the end, but he probably should have silk wrapped the pilrdriver or nissa.

GeorgeMaj15 Ya, 20/20 hindsight helps us know what the right play is. They wanted to use Ryon's warrior against them before saccing it and hitting them directly with Chandra would have still flipped her. She just wasn't for this world. =(

I could watch these teams play for hours! My only disappointment is not getting to see Sean and Ryon's cockiness lead them to victory. That, and Felicia's frustration at the situation would have been splendid!

The Diddler Anyway, mono red Goblin, and G/B Elves, two of the strongest standard decks right now. of course they gave these to the team with the new player :P
Going against control they wanted as much damage early on as possible, I suppose. And yes, in the interest of fairness.
The Diddler Elves are not very strong in standard. Goblins are definitely a thing though.

+MrStrangechange They're not tier 1, but are meta-appropriate in some tournaments. If you expect a lot of aggro, for instance. Collected Company is a real card.

Firefly cancelled, Spellslingers on permanent hiatus, only constant,they were amazing... and Alan Tudyk, who is also awesome. Damn it Wizards of the Coast, I came back to magic because of this show.
I like how connections between players are made throughout the procession of the game.
Always humorous to read the comments from people who just want to see a good MTG game being played by professionals. These are entertainment personalities and are fun to watch no matter how the outcome is. They could be playing go fish and still make it fun to watch. Have more fun in your life guys and stop taking things so seriously.

I haven't seen many magic games, but this is the most dominating Magic match I've ever seen. It was absolutely crazy domination.
Alan could have flipped Chandra if he Act of Treasoned it.
1. ping opponent with Chandra
2. cast Act of Treason (Chandra untaps for casting a red spell)
3. ping opponent with Chandra in response of Act of Treason
4. Act of Treason resolves, effect says Chandra untaps
5. ping opponent for the 3rd time
6. chandra flips
its a bit of an advanced play though. he seems to be a beginner. he made several minor misplays throughout.
Great editing on this. I've always said the thing that's more important than a funny actor is a funny editor. This is a great example of that. cutting everything at the right places.

Not really. The flip is a trigger check after the "{t}: Deal one damage to target player". He could actually have flipped her by not attacking, tapping once, stealing Jimmy, tapping twice, sacrifice Jimmy, tap thrice and then transform.
Or attacking for 2 damage, casting a red spell, then tapping for 1 damage afterwards.

wutzibu I think maybe because it takes a fair amount of time to set it up and film it. Watching outtakes, and noting that they have these side scenes, I think it probably takes hours to film a game.
i also think one games takes a long time but i always imagined the side scenes where done after the game since it would completely whack them out of the flow.
wutzibu I always thought they filmed several battles for each guest and used whichever battle was the most entertaining. Maybe there was more time issues for this episode with 4 people?
Honestly... yes it could just be bad play, but I personally believe Sean is a better player than that, so I feel like Sean was very much holding back so everyone can enjoy the game. Cause come on, the Piledriver is a significantly bigger threat than whatever he removed with that silk wrap (to be fair by that point of the game Felicia technically already won with Sean's side's significant lack of board presence), so why remove an elf with no relevant on field ability?

Tabletop isn't stopping, in fact they announced it returning around the same time you posted this and since the first two episodes have been released for free. (the rest will be released in a couple months)
As for Spellslingers, the consensus I've heard is that the show is licensed by WotC. As such, Geek & Sundry cannot shoot additional seasons without Wizards' say so. Best way for them to get the say so is if WotC sees substantial demand for the show, so if you REALLY want to help the show continue, share your thoughts on the subject with Wizards of the Coast. ( @wizards_magic on twitter)
@@firekirby123 I mean it just makes sense for wizards to continue the show. it is basically free advertising for their product and might attract nongamers to pick it up because it's just entertaining to watch.

I don't know if they've spent time together in the past with G&S stuff, but it was amazing how well Sean and Ryon seemed to click. They got their asses beat, but definitely had more fun.

Playing instants before the blockers are set makes me cringe... but they still would won. GG guys!
***** It's not incorrect. Just strategically unsound.
***** That's kinda true but you're not using the instant correctly, or to its full potential, imagine that there is a bigger guy that immediately blocks a smaller one thinking it is a safe block, if you then use the instant pump you kill him, if you use it before the blockers then he won't do that block.
***** Of course, but that is a very specific spell, in most cases it's better to use instants in your opponent's turn or after blockers are declared. But everything depends on the situation of course.
Still, with an instant like that you can do what Ryan did, playing it after the opponents declared an attack.
