- Spellslingers is back! Join Sean Plott (a.k.a. Day[9]) as he plays Magic the Gathering with Attack of the Show alum and Titansgrave half-dwarf rogue, Alison Haislip in episode 1 of season 3!
The Wheel of Fate deals Alison a Red-Green deck, perfect for her first time playing, while Sean spins for a Black-White enchantment deck. In this approximately 106 turn game, Sean and Alison encounter new mechanics, sing of their triumphs and tribulations, and generally engage in all sorts of tomfoolery. How will Alison do in her first full game of Magic? Will Sean successfully convert her to a Magic player? And really, who wins? The only way to find out is to watch!
This season, Sean and the gang will be playing with Wizards of the Coast’s new Magic Origins Set, which tells the stories of how five of Magic’s most iconic planeswalkers began their journeys. The Magic Origins Set doesn’t release until July 17th, but you can get an exclusive sneak peak of one of the cards here!

so i work for a youth center, and this last semester every student seemed like they were into magic. 2015 was the year for mtg in colorado, apparently. anyway, in order to create some intersections of interest, i decided to pick up magic, too. let me tell you: this show right here helped me SO MUCH!!! and i'm SO GLAD it's back! Geek & Sundry WotC should do whatever it can to make sure this stays a weekly show, because it's a great way to get new people interested in Magic and can also rekindle the hobby for veterans who haven't played in a while, like myself :). Come on Wizards, throw monies at this :D!

They're calling it Magic Duels: Origins, but yes. Free to play, earn in game coins by playing the game that you can use to unlock new cards. You can spend money on more coins if you want to unlock cards faster, but you don't need to.

Also their plan with it is to continually add new cards to it as more sets come out, so you won't have to worry about getting "Duels 2017" and not having the cards in this year's game carry over.
If you teach your children how to play Magic The Gathering, they won't have enough money for drugs. It's a fool-proof plan!

It was a good show and fun to watch all the guests play. I want to see at least 1 more season. But I don't think that they thought spellslingers would be taken that seriously. It was a quick mini series project.

I love watching this series. The games are pretty much kitchen table games of fun and not high end competition. No matter who it is that ends up playing against Sean, they seem like they are having a great time, win or lose. That's what it should be about: fun. /Timmy

Last expansion I played was ice age I'm amazed to see magic is still being played my son is 19 and he's getting into magic the gathering it is definitely a great game for family and friends to enjoy connect and challenge one another.

A wonderfully fun episode! So many ups and downs, it was amazing watching them both ride the ragged edge of hope from draw to draw at the end.

So happy to see Spellslingers back and just in time for Origins! This is a great opening episode, because this show does what very few others do, and that is embracing a casual play style. MTG is a GREAT game, and you create content that shows new players the fun and excitement of the game without making it so technical. I'm very excited to see what the rest of the season will bring to the battlefield!

This is going to be the geekiest post I've ever made on UA-cam.
I have been waiting for this to come back eagerly. I literally paused ST:TNG for it haha. I was not disappointed.
Not only was it really funny, with one of my favorite guests, but she was also playing red/green, which is my second favorite deck.
Then Sean with his combinatorics joke that had me in tears crying. I was also a math undergrad, but in group theory. I did a math/chem double major, and ended up splitting the difference in physical chemistry for my masters.
Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the season! My favorite series is back!

Certain. He had 2 life and double blocked a 3/2 with trample (which got +2/+2 for the blockers) with two 2/2s and took 1 damage from the spider. He was very much dead. So much for keeping track of the game state, eh Sean?

The wording on the card says: "When a creature you control becomes blocked it gets +1/+1", the bonus only applies once sadly.
If it got +1/+1 for each blocking creature, it would specifically say that. Magic is a precise game like that :)

Man this was a great pilot episode for season 3! She played like a boss even though it was just her first game, no notable large misplays on her part. Great job!

Eddy Weaver It would be my only option though. There's no way I'd spend money building a deck without attempting to learn how to play first. There are casual MTG nights at some comic & game shops around here that welcome "beginners" but you still need a deck.
Why don't you just play the new Duels Origins then? It's free and has probably the best beginner tutorials of any Duels game, and this time they added so many good things to the series. It's on iOS devices now and will come to console later. It will teach you how to play and also teach you about every evergreen keyword (card abilities that show up on lots of cards). I learned how to play from the 2011 Duels game.
That was a fun game to watch. I am so happy that G&S is doing more Spellslingers!
