so i work for a youth center, and this last semester every student seemed like they were into magic. 2015 was the year for mtg in colorado, apparently. anyway, in order to create some intersections of interest, i decided to pick up magic, too. let me tell you: this show right here helped me SO MUCH!!! and i'm SO GLAD it's back! THANK YOU G&S.
***** That's great to hear! it's an awesome game in all honesty and it's great to have kids play a game that involves math and strategy over doing drugs or what not. I've been playing Magic for years and I still love this show to death!
***** congratulations! i don't know if i can be of much help but if you have any questions, just message me or email me or whatever~ i'll do what i can ^_^
Alison: "I can't wait to read the cards!" Meanwhile on the card: "If you'll stare at the sun for too long, you'll lose your ability to see clearly." (actual flavor text)
Geek & Sundry WotC should do whatever it can to make sure this stays a weekly show, because it's a great way to get new people interested in Magic and can also rekindle the hobby for veterans who haven't played in a while, like myself :). Come on Wizards, throw monies at this :D!
This show is filling my heart with joy and faith in life. Shaun, not only are you awesome, you are also making any social interaction so much more enjoyable.
Awesome! I've been waiting for this forever! Also, can I just say that, as someone who's been wanting to get into Magic for a while but been kind of intimidated, this match was hugely inspirational.
i want more spellslingers, its 2016 in to shadows over innistrad, what the hell. please i love this show and i want to see it atleast continued or a decent explanation to why we are not getting any more. Please geeks and sundry hear my cry. WE WANT MORE SPELLSLINGERS! !!!!!!!!
It was a good show and fun to watch all the guests play. I want to see at least 1 more season. But I don't think that they thought spellslingers would be taken that seriously. It was a quick mini series project.
They're calling it Magic Duels: Origins, but yes. Free to play, earn in game coins by playing the game that you can use to unlock new cards. You can spend money on more coins if you want to unlock cards faster, but you don't need to.
Also their plan with it is to continually add new cards to it as more sets come out, so you won't have to worry about getting "Duels 2017" and not having the cards in this year's game carry over.
I love watching this series. The games are pretty much kitchen table games of fun and not high end competition. No matter who it is that ends up playing against Sean, they seem like they are having a great time, win or lose. That's what it should be about: fun. /Timmy
This was amazing! Seeing a new player experiencing the joy of magic certainly brings me back to the good old days. Aahh *looking dreamily into the distance*.
omg. it's so awesome seeing Alison just giggling more and more each turn, because she rocks that game. And Sean you are a good loser (my honest respect, for not giving up)
Please can you do move of this? It's the best to just sit down to a cup of coffee or quick meal and put on a spellslingers ... PLEASE PLEASE do more! :) :)
Wow that was fantastic and very exciting.Congratulations Alison for winning your first game of magic.I have to say I'm very happy with geek and sundry between spellslingers, table top,and the awesome rpg Titansgrave they are becoming my favorite youtube channel!
So happy to see Spellslingers back and just in time for Origins! This is a great opening episode, because this show does what very few others do, and that is embracing a casual play style. MTG is a GREAT game, and you create content that shows new players the fun and excitement of the game without making it so technical. I'm very excited to see what the rest of the season will bring to the battlefield!
This is going to be the geekiest post I've ever made on UA-cam. I have been waiting for this to come back eagerly. I literally paused ST:TNG for it haha. I was not disappointed. Not only was it really funny, with one of my favorite guests, but she was also playing red/green, which is my second favorite deck. Then Sean with his combinatorics joke that had me in tears crying. I was also a math undergrad, but in group theory. I did a math/chem double major, and ended up splitting the difference in physical chemistry for my masters. Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the season! My favorite series is back!
Last expansion I played was ice age I'm amazed to see magic is still being played my son is 19 and he's getting into magic the gathering it is definitely a great game for family and friends to enjoy connect and challenge one another.
Man this was a great pilot episode for season 3! She played like a boss even though it was just her first game, no notable large misplays on her part. Great job!
A very solid first time player. Also I kind of believe the excitement she displays at wrecking Sean's face. I could picture her playing more after filming this. Good episode.
Certain. He had 2 life and double blocked a 3/2 with trample (which got +2/+2 for the blockers) with two 2/2s and took 1 damage from the spider. He was very much dead. So much for keeping track of the game state, eh Sean?
Woodzyowl0309 it only got +1/+1. The wording on the card says: "When a creature you control becomes blocked it gets +1/+1", the bonus only applies once sadly. If it got +1/+1 for each blocking creature, it would specifically say that. Magic is a precise game like that :)

Dean Editors, MT is the state abbreviation for Montana, derived from the Spanish word "montaña" which means mountain. If you wanted the actual abbreviation for mount or mountain, that would be Mt. The more you know.
Eddy Weaver It would be my only option though. There's no way I'd spend money building a deck without attempting to learn how to play first. There are casual MTG nights at some comic & game shops around here that welcome "beginners" but you still need a deck.
Why don't you just play the new Duels Origins then? It's free and has probably the best beginner tutorials of any Duels game, and this time they added so many good things to the series. It's on iOS devices now and will come to console later. It will teach you how to play and also teach you about every evergreen keyword (card abilities that show up on lots of cards). I learned how to play from the 2011 Duels game.
First episode of Spellslingers season 3 is UP!

Any time we can has moar Alison Haislip is good time. :-)
So excited...almost lost hope. Thank you Geek & Sundry, Thank you Sean Plott
Why do I always first see these as "Spellsinger" and think of Alan Dean Foster?
Yay!!! I've been waiting patiently. Love this show :D
"The first win is free."
And that's how Alison became addicted to magic.
This is what you get for trashing blue. THIS IS WHAT YOU GET!

Spellslingers s3 opener recap: Sean only draws land, Alison is the cutest player to exist.
littlestnewt agreed!
littlestnewt Good recap, though there have certainly been some contenders on that second point!
MagicGatheringStrat Josh Barnett, is that you?
littlestnewt Pretty accurate!
littlestnewt I'm torn between her and Michele Boyd for that title
Watch it for the Plott
irpeach99 Well played, LSV would be proud

How is this so low. I've yet to see a better fitting comment.

***** Thats AWESOME! :)
Google limited resources and constructed resources if you want to start going down the competitive rabbit hole

lmao, i was only trying to be helpful :P
"In response, I'll tap these 3 Plains and concede."
My god I've missed this show!
Alison was so much fun.
Great energy and adorable.
Alison: "I can't wait to read the cards!"
Meanwhile on the card: "If you'll stare at the sun for too long, you'll lose your ability to see clearly." (actual flavor text)
The special effects in this show are great.
Vellrick Lol Sean said it was half of the budget after he and Alison summoned their decks
'Twas a joke, my good friend.
Vellrick That double birdie cover-up was hilarious.
Vellrick they are actually performing real magic spells
+Vellrick
3:25 It's also half the show's budged.
Fuccckkkk
Waited so long for this
Hope this will be a long and fun season :P
Not Visible The Season Gods have been good to us this harvest
"Shawn is a master at this"
She has never seen this show before has she.
Magic The Gathering is for winners!
Geek & Sundry don't do drugs kids
One of the best games I've seen in a while. No spoilers though.
Geek & Sundry My friends and I are so nerdy we play magic the gathering in a public library! :-)
Geek & Sundry WotC should do whatever it can to make sure this stays a weekly show, because it's a great way to get new people interested in Magic and can also rekindle the hobby for veterans who haven't played in a while, like myself :). Come on Wizards, throw monies at this :D!
Geek & Sundry Why doesn't it say at the start or end of the show this was sponsored by Wizards of the Coast?
This show is filling my heart with joy and faith in life. Shaun, not only are you awesome, you are also making any social interaction so much more enjoyable.
I am almost as pumped for this season of Spellslingers as I am for Magic: Origins!
my favorite G&S show, with my favorite G&S guest, uploaded on my geburtstag! Thank you.
Alison's joy in the fiery impulses is infectious
This is one of the greatest episodes I can remember, A great opening shot for this season
To be fair to the editors, they do a great job with names and such. Even if the summoning is cheesy.
Joshua Green We love the cheese hehe.... THANKS!
Geek & Sundry What kind of cheese do you guys prefer?
Nobody1111 not blue cheese
Welcome back! I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
If you teach your children how to play Magic The Gathering, they won't have enough money for drugs. It's a fool-proof plan!
not true.
Fungihair wrong.
HAHAHA
I started at 8 I’m currently 13 and haven’t bought any drugs so it’s confirmed
Definitely wrong. Doing drugs while playing magic is the best.
I'm five minutes in and already love the episode. Alison's singing and the text-commentary are great
Finally!!!!!!! My favorite show on this channel!!!
A wonderfully fun episode! So many ups and downs, it was amazing watching them both ride the ragged edge of hope from draw to draw at the end.
Never can get too much of Alison Haislip. I would pay 5 gold coins and a party to meet her!
Jessica The Janeway and not to forget the Grandma Sweat!
Diego Fernandes Stout...
Please don't forget the last word...
Otherwise its really gross...
I'd like to tape a bird to her buuuuttt... And call her Bird-Butt... *drunken laughter*
*Jeremy walks onto the dancefloor and pours a thimble-full for the fallen*
Diego Fernandes Is that meme never going to get old?
Great episode guys, it's wonderful to see you both again, and together no less!
Gotta love a lady who gets so excited about a card game!
I'm so glad you guys are back. I missed my spell slinga's. Great to see Allison! Would be cool to see ya on TheNewScreenSavers
Hahaha! - "I welcome Zendikar Incarnate warmly with my face"
Great game, one of the best episodes so far.
This is the only reason I was subscribed to this channel. Any update would be awesome.
OMG ITS BACK! im going to watch this like 5 times xD

Glad to see the series is back, feels like I've been waiting forever
I've never seen a MTG match before, never played, don't know shit about it but gosh this looks cool as hell!!!
AssKickingDork better yet, there's a free to play version coming out this month.
Britton Stanaland Magic 2016 is gonna be free to play??
They're calling it Magic Duels: Origins, but yes. Free to play, earn in game coins by playing the game that you can use to unlock new cards. You can spend money on more coins if you want to unlock cards faster, but you don't need to.
Britton Stanaland So similar to hearthstone then? Sounds amazing either way, I really hope it turns out well :D
Also their plan with it is to continually add new cards to it as more sets come out, so you won't have to worry about getting "Duels 2017" and not having the cards in this year's game carry over.
Good to have Spellslingers back. A fun first episode and I'm looking forward to the rest. Might even try playing it sometime.
thank the gods its back
Now this was a pretty great way to start a new season. A fun game with great moments of hype and hilarity. Looking forward to all the next ones!
I love watching this series. The games are pretty much kitchen table games of fun and not high end competition. No matter who it is that ends up playing against Sean, they seem like they are having a great time, win or lose. That's what it should be about: fun. /Timmy
Woohoo! So happy Spellslingers is back, cool to see the Origins cards in action before the release!
Origins is looking amazing! Absolute love the set. Kind of sad that core sets are dropping.
An awesome start to the season. Fantastic match, great banter between Allison and Sean as well.
I realize I'm two years late seeing this video, but I want you to know that I very literally laughed out loud at the combinatorics joke.
Don't worry, I'm three years late.
Where has this series gone! Best online!! Bring it back!
Would be awesome if you could get the professor as a guest.
andi mayer i second that
Foyoon Thirded
andi mayer from gilligan's island? is he even still alive?
andi mayer yes!!!the professor;deriums;wedge and HQ too bad sean would have a few more losses in his belt
By the professor do you mean tolarian community college ?
This was amazing! Seeing a new player experiencing the joy of magic certainly brings me back to the good old days. Aahh *looking dreamily into the distance*.
Alison played seriously well, by the way. Kudos!
its great to see someone really excited about playing magic i loved playing magic with my friend when he just started
Hehehehe that combinatorics joke was amazing
jelowey I'm glad there's somebody else out there who got it! I straight-up cackled. I want so badly to have the opportunity to use that joke.
jelowey It took me some time to get it.
I am really glad that this is back and that was an amazing game. Thanks!
How many people were thinking when Sean was back to 5 health that she was gonna top deck a Lava Axe at that moment?
Sweeeet! I waited for this for so long! Can'T wait to see what you got for us this season
I'm developing such a crush on Alison :D Look at that enthusiasm :D YESYESYES
Great episode to start the new season of Spellslingers.
So... nothing because shadows came out? sad... I wanted more spellslingers! it's why I'm subscribed to geek and sundry
This is the first time Ive watched a Magic game in forever and it actually made me just want to buy a couple pre-made decks for giggles.
omg. it's so awesome seeing Alison just giggling more and more each turn, because she rocks that game. And Sean you are a good loser (my honest respect, for not giving up)
Please bring this series back. I miss it so much.
Please can you do move of this? It's the best to just sit down to a cup of coffee or quick meal and put on a spellslingers ... PLEASE PLEASE do more! :) :)
Wow that was fantastic and very exciting.Congratulations Alison for winning your first game of magic.I have to say I'm very happy with geek and sundry between spellslingers, table top,and the awesome rpg Titansgrave they are becoming my favorite youtube channel!
why did you stop this series
Glad to see the show is back! Great job Sean & Alison
where is spellslingers! it's been months!
Prolly dead
Chris Winslow wizards of the coast pulled their support for the series. WOTC are very particular as to who can use their IPs
Greg Campbell kind of messed up. But they could have done a mtg game for fun
Where is Spellslingers? It's been years?
Oh boy do I have news for you.
So happy to see Spellslingers back and just in time for Origins! This is a great opening episode, because this show does what very few others do, and that is embracing a casual play style. "What?"
"Target me."

26:08 Day9 confirmed Shrek
LordVarhaal i see what you did there
LordVarhaal DOHNKEH
LordVarhaal I like that boulder. That's a nice boulder.
Last expansion I played was ice age I'm amazed to see magic is still being played my son is 19 and he's getting into magic the gathering it is definitely a great game for family and friends to enjoy connect and challenge one another.
"I don't know what I need, but I need it bad" said the bicurious 17-year-old.
Lol
great video and i am so happy that her first game was such a great experience.
The new season YAY! :D
Yay! You're back! Also, what an epic game. I was sitting on the edge of my seat after that 1 life shenanigans. :D
It's been a year, WHERE IS SPELLSLINGERS?! :'(
patience summer patience
+GX Gaming patience didnt pay off
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Here
I have been waiting forever! The show that encouraged me to play paper Magic.
Sean- always "Plotting" (Winky face ; )
+2enable ;)
I've seen this same joke a couple of times. can you explain it?
The host Day [9] aka Sean's surname is Plott
Man this was a great pilot episode for season 3! She played like a boss even though it was just her first game, no notable large misplays on her part. Great job!
With magic you don't have money for drugs
This show has now made me a new addict of Magic - downloaded from XBOX 1 and happily on my way to this new multiverse.
are you going to do more episodes amd when really enjoy these videos
I'm so happy this show is back, and I loved just how much Alison was enjoying her deck.
Magic is for winners
Don't do drugs
Pick one
They both cost about the same
They both cost about the same
Kryos It also helps college kids never have enough money for alcohol
Kryos magic is the best drug
Kobe T No drugs would be cheaper
A very solid first time player. Also I kind of believe the excitement she displays at wrecking Sean's face. I could picture her playing more after filming this. Good episode.
Yesssss
Really good first episode to come back with! I like that it turned out to be a fair, drawn-out match.
Please reboot this show!!!!!!!!
AH! So glad this is back :) Sean, you're awesome.
So this is another show where the host never wins. #WilWheatonCurse
tLFx4x5x6 If Wil ever came in to play Spellslingers they would somehow manage to both lose
David Holden It's possible. I can think of a few ways.
David Holden LOL, that would be so hilarious!!!
David Holden Ok. That episode needs to happen... lol
I think we should have raw unedited episodes of spellslingers so we can see all the inbetween mishaps. Anyway, great start to a new season!
"First one's always free." That's what my local drug pusher always said.
This show is so well-made!! We need MOAR!!!
So who else noticed that Sean died when the wolf trampled over his double block?
Woodzyowl0309 Are you sure they didn't have enough collective defence?
Certain. He had 2 life and double blocked a 3/2 with trample (which got +2/+2 for the blockers) with two 2/2s and took 1 damage from the spider. He was very much dead. So much for keeping track of the game state, eh Sean?
Woodzyowl0309 That's what happens when you play 20-turn games of M:TG haha.
Woodzyowl0309 guess we were the only ones haha
Woodzyowl0309 it only got +1/+1.
The wording on the card says: "When a creature you control becomes blocked it gets +1/+1", the bonus only applies once sadly.
If it got +1/+1 for each blocking creature, it would specifically say that. Magic is a precise game like that :)
For a first time player, she made some very good plays. Good game, good episode!
Also, I'm glad they're using this show as a platform to preview the new set!
Sean: “don’t do drugs kids.... Ding!”
Sean has forgotten the magic the gathering is a drug
Get your kids to play Magic, and they won't be able to afford drugs.
Alison really lit up this episode. Also the music fade-in on Sean's draw was hilarious.
Dean Editors,
MT is the state abbreviation for Montana, derived from the Spanish word "montaña" which means mountain. If you wanted the actual abbreviation for mount or mountain, that would be Mt.
The more you know.
Gorenghal Mount, not Mountain*
Clarify please.
Favorite episode yet. Great job everyone!
gawd Alison is so adorable
hats off all around. this was an amazing episode.
I feel like I'm ready to get into MtG after this! But is Magic the Gathering Online really not available for mac os x?
***** nope. MTGO is PC only if thats what you mean. as for the Duels series, the new one will be on iPad and iPhone but not OSX.
Garth Palmer Macs are PC's, but that sucks. :(
***** MTGO is also shit if you're just trying to start MTG.
Let's rephrase that; MTGO is shit.
Eddy Weaver It would be my only option though. There's no way I'd spend money building a deck without attempting to learn how to play first. There are casual MTG nights at some comic & game shops around here that welcome "beginners" but you still need a deck.

I learned how to play from the 2011 Duels game.
That was a fun game to watch. I am so happy that G&S is doing more Spellslingers!
