    This is not the FULL CPU Optimization videos I've made in the past, rather, a breakdown of the settings in Tarkov that affect CPU bottlenecked performance within Escape From Tarkov this patch. There were some surprises here, but I did not go after every setting, so let me know if you want a round 2 or have anything else to test! Thanks, as always, for watching :)

    I think BSG should prioritize game optimization's rather then pushing content for the next bit. This is the reason I stopped playing when streets got released. Having 100+ fps on customs then getting 30-60 fps on streets ruins the experience for me

      Yeah. Streets and lighthouse are dope. But they'd be a lot cooler if we could play them seamlessly with bare rigs, say i5-9400f and gtx1660 6gb. Just asking, on the behalf of a friend 😅

      This is constantly brought up but an important thing to distinguish about game development is they can’t just “prioritize” and shift all of the development power. The developers are specialized in specific areas of development and a 3D modeler can’t sit on his hands and get paid for nothing while the programmers try and optimize the game. It’s also not as easy to hire new programmers because they need to familiarize themselves with the game. 80% of Tarkovs problems are with the Unity Engine itself tbh and hopefully this next upgrade with major rewrites (basically what you’re asking for in this post and been a long time coming) fixes these issues

    Imagine a day tarky was optimized officially. Imagine the day it had sophisticated AI i.e. gta or red dead. Imagine the day the audio was soooo immersive when you heard a sound you actually knew the area it came from. Fuck the cheater hype or even the gross inertia we still deal with (which if it has to stay it should only effect those who are overweight) but seriously if we could have the game as is with the maps as is and it just be less frusterating to run on your rig, less frusterating to hear, man hell I'd even still settle with all the odd recoil, plus all the cheaters and inertia we got now as stated before. Gimme gimme smooooth operation xoxo. P.s. thanks for vid I'll give some setting changes a go.

    It would be nice if object Level Of Detail actually would be what it says, but, if you turn it on 2, you actually can notice a lot of objects popping in, not even getting rendered at all.
    It happened to me a few times, when I ways playing on 2, that I was trying to shoot, lets say, a scav, and I was wondering why he doesn't die or even get hit. Well, turned out there was a solid metal wall barricade on the roof in Reserve, which I couldn't see at all.
    I mean, yeah, it gives a good perfomance boost turning it on 2, but bro, if I can't even see 50% of the objects, that's bullshit.
    And no, it's not because of my VRAM or whatever you guys try to come up with, tarkov is just still really bad in those things, lets be honest.

    • @killerbas40
      @killerbas40 10 місяців тому +3

    Im not sure if you want to try this, but i've decided to overclock my ram and got some nice results, lower latency its what Tarkov likes the most, so i was running a very high latency setting because of mixed ram kits (i had 2x 8Gb + 2x 16gb) running at 3200mhz (from 2400mhz) at 22 CAS, thats high but was the most stable i could get from mixing them, decided to ditch the 2x 8GB and see what i could get from those 2x16 alone, got my CAS lower as 16, the result was REALLY nice! My avarage fps went from 40-50s to consistent 60~ on the lows and up to 80s on Streets! I wish i had a DDR5 kit to check if all that bandwith and high CAS impacts on Tarkov but i still runing a 3800x + 2070!

    The thing that bothers me so much about the CPU bottlenecking is that before the game updated to Unity 2019... I didn't have an issue. It ran pretty great, even on Reserve which was at the time the most demanding map... and I have a fucking Ryzen 5 2600... Not exactly an amazing CPU. It's gotten better since then but it has never ran as amazing as it used to. I realize the game has got bigger but I don't understand why THAT update in particular is what made things go from amazing to rock bottom.

For the longest i thought i was just crazy but i forgot they updated to unity 2019. at the time reserve felt like shit playing (roughly 60-80) compared to my 90+ on other maps. lord do i regret thinking that was bad lmao. they had a nice mid patch when streets was released i was avging like 50-60 on streets which felt nice, then they did another update and now i can never pass 50. ryzen 3600 and 1080 gpu, it gets depressing playing streets because it looks so fun.

      Object LOD on 2 basically makes you see other players up to 200 meters maximum. I tested this in offline raid with scavs and using rangefinder. I was looking up to Sniper Scav on Sniper Rock in Woods. When you increase your object lod quality to 2.5, then the distance which you can see other “living entities” is 250m. In 3, it’ll be 300m. Maximum of 400m at LOD 4. It’s a good advantage if you have a good CPU.

    I prefer to play the grassy wooded maps. And having LOD at 2 is major disadvantage for spotting players at long distance in those maps. If your standing on mountain in woods looking at old saw mill, and a player is at the end of old sawmill in the grass. You will not see them in the high grass at LOD 2 until they move into the road. At LOD 4 you will see them. That's a problem for me. Anisotropic filtering off or per texture actually gives me much better frames than LOD without causing inability to see players.
    And just a little tip here, lowering your shadows too much makes things flicker at the shadow edges. Making way more difficult to track movement. I won't lower shadows past medium for this reason.

    • @inreisen
      @inreisen 9 місяців тому

      If you use your scope you can always see other players. That’s why most of the players scan the areas with opened scopes. If you use your eyes and without scope, you can only see other players and bots up to 200m with object lod quality on 2, maximum of 400m on 4. I tested it myself on Woods with a rangefinder.

    I do not like these barcharts, as what visually appears to be double the frames, in reality is a ~4fps difference. It is very misleading in my opinion, and while it is true that I can and did interpret the data written, it is still very unintuitive (to me at least).

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  5 місяців тому +2

      My guess is that the CPU cache (along with memory bandwidth) limits the performance of your CPU's actual processing power. TLDR is that your CPU needs quick-to-access data for calculations, and having more of that cache allows it to perform operations quickly without having to swap out data within the cache for operation. Because it has to reach system RAM more frequently for information, it's likely lowering your system performance. I know that's a little weird to think about but that's at least my theory; I hope that helps :)

      Ask around in our tech-talk channel for tips, but my first guess would be an issue with available memory overflowing (maybe a page-file issue?). Other people will have other ideas there though. Also obv. make sure that you run verify game files and all of that to ensure everything is set.

    My experiences with Tarkov now on 3 different systems (two different Ryzen based and one intel) is that the game is bound on neither GPU or CPU... it's bound on a total lack of optimization.
    The best way to improve Tarkov, in my experience, is to make sure that the game is stored on the fastest SSD you can afford, and make sure that all of your other drives are similar. If you have any spinning drives in your stack, or any external drives (like on USB) disable or remove them. The game seems to have some real issues with loading textures and page files and whatnot.
    My current game system is a 5800x, a 3080, and 64gig of fastest DDR4 RAM. The game stresses none of the key components, even when running 1440 mirrored down two paths. The GPU runs reasonably, the CPU runs reasonably, and the whole thing wanders along like nothing. No matter the setting, I cannot get the game to actually use enough resources to make it really matter. I record on a separate PC, but honestly, I could run it on the same one and it would not be an issue, that is how light Tarkov really is now.

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  10 місяців тому +1

      You're 100% CPU bound there- and it will not show it. Whether it be an issue with CPU cache or individual thread performance, your 5800x will not be able to feed it quick enough. Tarkov DEFINITELY has issues with optimization, no doubt, but that is likely your issue.

      @@tiredpoison5784 You are only truly bound if increasing the performance of the CPU would change the end result. That is not the case. Once you get past a certain point with Tarkov, it appears to just lie flat and doesn't go out of it's way to use either CPU or GPU.

  • @gjdriessen1
    @gjdriessen1 3 місяці тому

    I've heard that increasing graphic settings, thereby increasing load on GPU, could help in CPU bound scenario. Is this true. The reasoning is that the GPU would take more of the burden shifting load from CPU. Does anyone know about this?

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  3 місяці тому +1

      That's a common misconception. Increasing load on the GPU doesn't "shift" any load from the CPU to the GPU, it just gives the GPU more work to do to sort of "stay in line" with the worktime of the CPU.
      You can think of it as two parts to an assembly line. If the CPU has 4 screws to screw in and the GPU only has to screw in 1 screw afterward, the GPU has time where it's just waiting on the CPU to finish so it can start working. If you instead give the CPU and GPU 4 screws to screw in, it will take them roughly the same amount of time to screw them in, ensuring that neither of them are sitting idle waiting for too long. Hope this helps! :D

    So I am one of those unfortunates who are GPU limited. How to make my gpu not try to melt? So far my only solution was to limit my fps to about 80(have to change to 60 for streets) if I leave it on unlimited my card goes to 83 degrees C and throttles itself. Also it smells like cheap plastic because my broke ass bought a gigabyte card like a moron.

      1. Gigabyte == broke? I never had any problems with gigabyte products, hell - I only had great experiences so if its new I would instalty send it for a check.
      2. FPS limit is always important since if for example your screen is 60HZ you won't even see more than 60 fps. Moreover it might actually give you screen tearing which looks awfull. Also, when FPS is unlimited youre throttling your entire PC since everythink is trying to work as much as it can
      3. 83oC isn't really that bad of a temperature in generall unless you have very bad cooling.
      4. Generally lower LOD's, Texture quality since in tarkov, at least to me, there is no difference between medium and high and honestly I can even play on low, also Anti-aliasing might hurt your pc, If you can have amd fidelity or DLSS then turn it on.
      5. Check your settings in amd/nvidia panel and also power settings in widnows. Search in google to what values set these and it will help with any game and will be good for your pc.

      2. Yeah I have a 144 Hz screen and I use all 144Hz in other games, in Tarkov rarely anybody gets more than 100 fps anyway.
      3. I have read it's like the limit the card can get itself to before it stops taking as much power to not cook itself.
      4. Feared as much, already on low textures and shadows, but fortunately it doesn't impact visuals as much. DLSS is also on and playing in 2k(that is a requirement, I know I could drop it to HD but I can't see shit when set to that so this has to stay)

    "Only use physical cores" makes no difference to my FPS, but it DOES stop Tarkov from locking up my whole PC when it's loading/being a ridiculous lunatic. For example, when it finally 'hooks' into a game during matching, with only use physical cores off my entire PC would lock up for a couple of moments (it's a good PC), so whatever I'm doing on my second screen would freeze for a second. With it on, I can keep doing whatever on my second screen and be unaffected by Tarkov stuttering about like the decrepit behemoth it is.
