Before you guys comment saying I missed that Grass is weak to Ice, I know. I'm sorry about that- i checked the video 10 times before i published it. I kept correcting things i missed. The grass being weak to ice just flew over my head. I left an annotation on why grass is weak to ice. I hope this doesn't ruin the video for you! I put in a lot of hours into this video and I really regret not realizing this.

The reason that electric has no effect on ground is because when neutralizing an electric current, it is called “grounding” the current.

@@sh_1v no, not really. I'm sure grounding is the real reason gamefreak made this obvious decision. Especially since it's a electric type in general & not just a lightning type. A lightning bolt or flash is just when a electric current travels trough the air. But grounding always works, even when the current travels inside the conductor.
I kinda think this was also what dobbs meant to say. Since you catch a flash with a lightning rod & conduct it to the ground, so "nothing happens" as dobbs said

The reason ground is weak to ice is freeze thaw erosion. Water gets in cracks in the ground, the water freezes and expands, the expansion puts strain on the ground. The larger cracks now hold more water, and so its more effective the second time.
Dragons are weak against ice becouse they're reptiles. In stories they are also often beaten with magic.

Fairy is super effective to dragon because in some fairy tales, heroes use magical powers to defeat beasts like dragons.
Dragon doesnt do anything to fairy types either because they dont survive fairy tales or because a dragon isnt real and cant escape a fairy tale

Dragon is also magic type ( Draco meteor is meteor rain - the famous and strong spell in many games or dragon breath charged with arcane power or dragon rege is magic missile )
Dragon weaknesses explained (imo) Ice- pretty much all the dragons are lizards or some reptile, so they're cold blooded, meaning they can't regulate their own body temperature and thus would likely die in cold environments. Dragon- The Dragon type and Dragons in general are seen as powerful creatures unbeatable by almost anything, so the only thing/animal to be able to hurt a dragon would be another dragon. Fairy- Restructure the metagame 😭

Because it can't absorb moisture that carries bacteria (poison), like other types of metals, it is an ideal choice for spaces that require a durable, clean metal surface. That's why it's used so ubiquitously in kitchens; it's easy to clean and won't become contaminated.

The only two Pokémon that can actually affect Steel Types with Poison Type moves is Salandit and Salazzle. Because of their ability "Corrosion" which actually exists in real life if you didn't know that which I highly doubt.
except that some poisons can corrode metal. now thunder should be super effective against steel, which is naturally a conductor. if water (in its purest form does not conduct electricity) is weak against thunder then so should steel. also steel should be weak against water.

When I was a kid, I thought that Fire types should be strong against Dark types since fire creates light, which the Dark types would naturally be averse to, and that Dark types should be strong against Grass types since plants need light to grow.
Well same here that should have made sense, and also the fact that dark and ghost should have remained not very effective on Steel as in some legends, it is said that metal objects ward off evil spirits and negative energy from homes.

Probably because Dark doesn't refer to literal darkness, but rather malice, cruelty and underhandedness (it's literally the EVIL type back in Japan), and the three weaknesses are based on Good triumphing over Evil.

Actually, the explanation when Sylveon was revealed (the first confirmed fairy-type), was exactly this. Dragons are big monsters, and are always slain by the end of fairytale stories.

fairy types were for the sole reason of balance. They should've been called magic or mystic though, sounds way better. dragons are weak to ice because dragons are reptiles, and reptiles are cold blooded creatures and need outside heat sources to live, therefore extreme cold would kill them. And dragons are weak against other dragons because reptiles are traditionally solitary hunters and they will eat each other if one is too small or too weak to defend themselves. Think of a big snake eating a smaller snake.
The funny thing about the fairy type is that it arguably caused more balancing problems than it actually fixed.
1. The buff to Steel's offensive capabilities indirectly nerfs Rock and Ice, which are already struggled before Fairy type was introduced.
2. Making Fairy type the defacto dragon killer takes away one of the few niches that offensive Ice type Pokemon had.
3. The Fairy type has 3 defensive resistances and 1 immunity while only having 2 weaknesses. Both of said types have terrible offensive capabilities making Fairy an excellent for creating powerful dual types.
4. The addition of Fairy type buffs both the Fire and Steel, which are among the best types in the game, while also simantanlousily serving as a another resistance to the Bug type,which up until that point was resisted by 6 types (bringing the total to 7).

Ice is strong against Dragon due to western dragons being considered reptiles (I say western because Altaria, a dragon type, is based off of the Eastern dragons.)

Sigh, I am disappointed in you Dobbs. I usually like your work since you cover topics that other pokemon channels rarely cover but this is far from your your strongest work. This is a lazy, half-assed video, and this is a disappointing since this is a very interesting topic for debate and discussion among pokemon fans. It is evident that the most bare minimum work was put into this video (aside from editing because that was done very well) and it looks like you only researched and wrote this episode in a span of two hours before editing. You really should have put more effort into researching the properties of these pokemon types such as how lightning reacts to the earth and how fairies could defeat dragons by researching old fables and so on. I know I am going to get a lot of hate for this comment, but it really burns me when other pokemon channels, such as the Dex and gaijin goomba, put a lot of effort into their research and yet get far less views than you.
I doubt you'll get a lot of hate for this opinion, at many points in the videos I raised an eyebrow wondering if it was a serious video or a joke. It just seems a zero research explanation with guesses of why certain types are weak to others. Sure, there's some research with dark being called evil-type in Japan, but he throws it out of the window with "bug, because bugs can see in the dark."

Dragon weak to ice personally better theory, dragons are thought to be giant lizards, lizards are harshly effected by the cold
Dragon V dragon/dragon V fairy, Dragons are so strong, that in almost every myth or legend, dragons are viewed as powerful beasts, only able to be overcome by either beasts of the same power, like other dragons or MAGICAL weaponry
Or, Dragons are cold-blooded and being hit with an ice attack with drop their inner temperature to so low that they would die.
And for fairy, Dragons are the main targets for being executed in FAIRYtales.

Actually water doesnt conduct electricity, it is actually the minerals that conduct the electricity. Water by itself is a terrible conductor.

On the note of ground having an advantage/immunity to electric, it isn’t just because lightning doesn’t do anything when it hits the ground; it specifically has to do with how lightning travels and damages things. Lightning wants to flow through objects like any other electrical current, and electric currents are caused by the movement of electrons between atoms, creating an electric charge. Electrical currents want to flow to a destination (the charge of positively charged atoms towards a negative terminal, and vice versa for negatively charged atoms). When lightning descends from the sky, if it isn’t jumping from one cloud to another, it thus tries to reach the ground instead to complete the circuit. This is why tall objects act as lightning rods; they rise closer to the sky, giving lightning a path of least resistance to the ground. The ground acts as a terminal for the electricity, “grounding” the circuit, but the dirt/ground/earth itself doesn’t conduct the electricity further, so that’s the end of the line.
Of course, indeed electricity “doesn’t do anything” to the ground in the way it can really damage organisms (especially due to the high strength of the current - amperage - and resistance - the amount of Ohms), but it’s not just that.

I got a problem with ground type moves doing nothing to flying types: Some flying types (like doduo) are immune to ground types and some Pokemon (like magtentmite) can be hit with ground type moves. Also, not all ground type moves *are ground base* like mud bomb: (move description) The user launches a hard-packed mud ball to attack. This may also lower the target's accuracy. See, it uses the word *launches*.

In the games, just because something seems to be true, doesn't necessarily means it is. Magnemite and its evolutions are clearly levitating, but since they don't have that ability, that fact is ignored for combat purposes. Also, I remember Magnezone had the move Magnet rise to make it levitate in battle, so it could levitate somehow

Also, grass types aren't all stuck to the ground. In fact, some don't even touch the ground. Look at celebi and tropius. Alolan exeggutor walks on the ground but his heads 46 feet above it. This makes it vulnerable to birds, but that's not the main reason
