- In this video I show how I made clear gesso. 1/4 cup PVA glue (tacky glue) 1/8 cup water and 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Dilute the cornstarch in water first, then add the mixture to the glue. You’ll get way less lumps 😊
Thanks I guess I'm a lump lol I always seem to get some when I'm first mixing it but it smooths right out by the next day
Have tou tried using this on canvas? And did you sand after each coating? 😊
@@kmd3301 I haven't worked on canvas with this. I just don't do much on canvas myself. I was trying to recreate the texture of a clear gesso I bought it didn't seem to have the same tooth as my white gesso.

Wow! This really works. I wish I could post my test page. I made this recipe according to your measurements...1/8 C water (I used purified), 1 Tbsp cornstarch and 1/4 C Tacky Glue. I mixed mine in a different order. I put the cornstarch in a small jar and added the water, then mixed until fully dissolved (check the bottom edge of the jar). Next, I dumped in the Tacky Glue and, using a small whisk, whisked it in to the water. I then pulled a dark colored advertisement out 9f the recycling bin and painted half. Being impatient, I dried it with a hair dryer and proceeded to test. From watching other videos on how/why to use gesso I observed using colored pencils, watercolors, pastels, etc. So, I colored with different mediums on both sides and I was amazed at how well it actually performed. I'm so glad it worked for you. I love it and use it all the time. Sometime I placed with after this video was using it on fabrics (as long as the fabric was light enough to see the ink or pencil I was using it) it became a writeable surface as well. I know there's all kinds of crazy UA-cam videos out there but I do try to test first. Normally I'll just add to my jar if it's getting low and just eye ball how much to add so the measurements do have wiggle room.

I was really happy about it lol this is a pretty basic recipe but you can play with it from there it's pretty forgiving lol I have been using more cornstarch in mine maybe double what I said just because I liked how it worked for me but that's more just playing and testing
I use a small battery powered cocktail whisk for this type of job. It mixes thoroughly.

I made some its pasty lookin but after 3 coats opposite diredtions its made a canvas like texture and you can draw 0r sketch on it with a pencil easy.
I saved my gesso bottle and it worked out great

Always mix the cornstarch with water. I just watched a video where they used ¼ cup of cornstarch with smll mt of water and 1 tbsp. of glue.
I made this and I love it! It's clear and goes on so nicely. I use this to seal paper mache & clay so that when I spray with clear enamel to completely seal the project it doesn't change the color of my paint. Thanks again!

I made some without paint and its not clear when it dries but it did prime my posterpaper to a canvas texture.

thanks...I use a lot of magazine images in my work...and most of the supplies I use just slide off them....off to buy some cornstarch....
While I was testing this I found I could write over it with a normal pen. I love the way it makes magazine pages look

Thanks a lot, so happy to find my solution to prepare at home. But there is a problem that I couldn't find cornstarch in my city. So what is the alternative for cornstarch? Can I use cornflour instead?
Cornflour is cornstarch hunnie. You get two different ones one made from potato or corn.
This is perfect because I can't find clear gesso anywhere in a store. I wonder if you add a few drops of brown paint will it make a sepia type wash? Thanks for sharing!

I think adding some sepia-colored or dark INK would work better than acrylic paint. Or maybe some water color paint.
Just wondering if a clear decoupage glue would work? I have me an unempoyed bottle of that. And then addon the cornstartch or flower as we tend to call it in rotten dutch, with water? Did any of you crafty people out there ever used that??

Tacky glue holds best and its got gloss to it.
Ross glue elmers glue and carpenters glue tries to peel. The ross is glossy the elmers looks matte the carpenters is glossy but a slight yellow glow in uv. The tacky is the glossiest and sticks more like plastic
I made this gesso, but the oil paint dries very quickly on it. What should I do?
I've also noticed ink seems to take longer to dry. I haven't played with the recipe yet but I'm wondering if more cornstarch would help give it something to absorb into? But if you add too much it will make it milky in color. When I made this it was like the clear gesso I had but I've learned there's a big difference between even store bought clear

There's other videos on clear gesso?I've only seen the white. It's used to prep paper before you use a wet media on it. So like before you paint or use watercolor or whatever. It's kinda a protective layer on the paper. It will work like a glue as well, and it will make whatever you put it on a writeable surface.

Yea I’m not much of a media art person.....but to each his own.btw I kinda started something. And I figured out why I got anxiety when I got stuff out.... cuz it smells like smoke. But I put dryer sheets in my totes and it helped take the smoke smell out

I would think you could I don't see why not. Honestly I haven't had any problems any lumps I may get just kinda work themselves out by the morning
why not mix in a large bowl then add to your container.

So I normally make vintage looking journals so I use most often if I'm working with very old paper that wants to rip but you can use it to seal layers of your work because you can still work on top, prep canvas or paper to work on. Just about anything you can use white or black gesso for

Honestly I would think it could but I haven't had it happen to me. My last batch I made a few months ago, I don't store it anywhere special, other then a tight lid, and I just used it yesterday. Projects where I have used it months ago are still ok. I can't lie and say I know what will happen years from now.

Honestly wood glue is a pva at least the brand I use but I used it once just to glue some fabric down and it acted odd. Also the brand I use dries kind yellow so it wouldn't be as clear
