Your team did everything you could for that beautiful black draft horse. At least his last couple weeks were wonderful and treated with a ton of respect.
Poor Pauly!! And the young woman who got stepped on by a giant 🫣🫣🫣😳 Pauly you are Da MAN! For taking that beautiful pregnant mare. One of these days you got to show us your horsey babies‼️🐎🐎🐎🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 Thank you to All the hard workers at Pony Tales. We appreciate everything you guys do❗️❗️❗️🩵🙏🏼👍🏼
Poor black baby, if only he had been looked at when he was little and light and easier to fix. Thankyou for making the kind decision for him and giving him your best. I feel for you all for those hard calls.
It’s worth the black horse having a decent quality of life and if he doesn’t have it, sometimes you have to do the act of kindness and let them go onto green greener pastures.
It’s horrible that the owners of these fantastic creatures didn’t start them off with proper ground manners. Pauly handles it like a champ!! It hurt me when he got hurt!!! The guy has saint status!! Congratulations on your new baby!!
Pauly earned his pay check today! Ed to add. We don't have stocks in the country I live in. Drafts are trained to pick up their feet, just as any other breed of horse. Back in the 1930's my grandmother was farming on her own and the old draft mare leaned when she shod her, so my grandmother swung a block and tackle from a tree, tied the mare under it and hauled up each leg as required to shoe her. The system worked for many years until the mare retired and my grandmother bought a tractor.
It's not job for wimps, that's for sure! THey have so many horses running through, there's not time to work with each one on foot lifting and prepare them better for the farrier like you would normally. It can't be easy to find a farrier willing to do all this.
Just for the record, I LOVE Pauly for saying that. Yes, it's sad. Yes, that's a sweet baby that I wish could be saved. But his fetlocks are so bad now that I don't even want to imagine what they'd be like if he were the proper size and weight for his age, let alone once he reaches his full adult growth and weight. Pauly's advice is the only responsible course of action to take.
I love your channel the best out of all the rescue channels..you guys are so real! Good or bad, you guys just act like normal every day people..i love that. Thank you guys for making my day
Thank you for being upfront and public about need for quality of life decisions. I think some folks think that rescues never put a horse down, without thinking of quality of life decisions.
When I was young my horse got tetnus . There was no treatment at that time. It was too far progressed by the time it was found. I was there when he was put to rest. I had seen the disease in its horrible effects. Please get your animals and yourselves vaccinated. It doesn’t take much to get it
Pauly, you're a superhero! Nerves of steel! Watching you is tense, exciting, and suspenseful. Do you have your own channel? Because damn! Hope you didn't get too hurt. Sending Prayers and blessings your way. Along with everybody else at ponytails. You do incredible work!
That poor draft Colt. I truly appreciate that Pauly said it like it is. If more people would step up and a) be more careful in choosing broodmares and stallions to produce QUALITY foals and b) when you do have animals that have zero quality of life be a decent human being and put them out of their misery. Its so unfair to the animals
When Socrates raked the back of her leg I curled myself up. I had that done by a Trakehner, I can't even imagine how bad that hurt. She's one tough lady. And Pauly, I agree with the pulley idea, I hate to see you get hurt so much and your back can't take that for long, trust me. One of my best friends is a long time farrier and he's about your size. He had to quit doing drafts and has cut down to just longtime customers. I told him about you and he said "Hats of to that young man. He's braver than I was ". There are to few good farriers and you are a good one for sure. I'm glad you took that mare home. Your home is the perfect place for her. You and your wife are amazing. Could you please pass this on to Pauly and his wife? I geel terrible but I can't for the life of me remember her name right now. Thank you. You're whole team does amazing things every day 😊.
That poor two yr old draft. Due to his size, wieght, & condition I think lack of a good diet in his first two years of life has contributed to his pasterns breaking down. He could have also been used for pulling heavy weight way to soon. Some people think just because they are big horses the can handle pulling at a young age. He still a baby. They broke him down! Last act of kindness is the best you can do. Its sad when they are so young. 😢❤ He will run free in greener pastures. ❤❤❤
Congratulations on your beautiful mare. I can't wait to see her baby, Pauly. I hope your wife's foot is OK that looked horrible how that hoof came down on her ankle 😢
I think I was cussing too when Pauly got his thumb jammed…..plus my stomach did flip flops…..ouchy ouchy……plus Pauly wasn’t feeling well, he’s one tuff dude! ❤️❤️❤️
What a tragedy that a horse so young has to be put down because people couldn’t be bothered to fix a problem early enough. I love the videos with Pauly doing his amazing work on horse’s feet.
Thank you for giving that 2 year old the last act. Of kindness. It's tragic at his age, but that's the worst set of feet I've ever seen, and only going to get worse as he grows. Maybe his constant pain has contributed to his small size already.
@kar702 when the vet saw him he said in his opinion it was insufficient nutritional groceries..caused a weakness and this is the result..he is very underweight and undersized for his breed and age..its disgraceful that this poor boy is only 2 yrs old and has no quality of life..when Pauly lifted one leg the other one completely collapsed at a 90° angle. .how bad is that..poor fellow..🌈😭💔
Poor guy. Much love to all of you. Glad he had some warm, peaceful days in the barn with you all. He got to be well fed, as comfortable as he could be, given a name, and a chance. You all did your best by him, and i respect you for your hard work.❤
I so sorry for that 2 year draft horse 🐴🐎 . It really does suck for that young draft horse 🐎. But he at peace now. With no pain any more. And God 🙏🙏🙏 welcome him back home 🏡 again. And let the Angels open their gates for him.To a green 💚 paster lots of grass too. And new friends too. R I P Big guy. All my 💕🥰❤️🤗💖😘😍❤️ to all.
Oh Man! His poor hands. He needs some serious messaging of his hands and arms. Probably his back too. Such a shame about the 2yr.Thank you for stepping up!
So glad Pauley didn't break anything and that he's taking Niki home. Hope he gets her hoves back in shape and she becomes sound. Would be wonderful to see her running in a pasture with her foal. So sad for the 2 year old draft, but glad you consulted with the professionals and will be responsible, where his previous owners were not. No greater gift than the last act of kindness to end his suffering.
That poor draft colt, to be in such bad physical conformation. He is the results of bad breeding practices, sadly, all the love in the world cannot save that. Pauly is right to say that. IT isn't fair to the horse to keep them just for longer suffering. Thanks for all you guys do, as hard as it is to make those decisions, especially on such a young, sweet horse.
i love that you changed to doing videos everyday! i also love the pauly videos! hope those two draft horses aren’t so hard on him next time! good job pauly!! ❤️❤️
So sweet of Paulie to take nikki, knowing she'll be a long term foot care patient. He does the the bonus of cute foal, so he's not getting a bad deal. Heal quick: both that heel and that hand. Yikes those big hooves. Dang that one bigger than Paulie's head. love the drafts. hope that baby has spots so Paulie will be happily surprised to get some good Percheron dappling
Wow!! What a rodeo!! Those Belgians exhausted me!! Poor Paulie!! I hope he can take a long break. Happy he took Nickie home with him. Bless you guys for all you do for these horses. Respect and prayers.
You need some snatch block pulleys attached to the farrier stock. It would help you lift their feet. You wouldn’t have to pull so hard to get their foot lifted.
It hurts my heart to see those Belgians fight the stock and the trim....they obviously never had gentle handling or a good farrier experience. These giants are usually sweet tempered. Just sad.
@@Jennifer- The staff were not laughing at the horse. These people are professionals. Working in an environment where there's sometimes sadness, you learn to laugh at things in order to stay sane. It's a defense mechanism. And why so critical? These people are extremely knowledgeable and go above and beyond to help these horses. Are you a trained farrier? Or veterinarian? I don't recall either of them asking for treatment advice.
Not all horses are able to be desensitized prior to getting their feet done, as their feet need immediate attention. If you are referring to Martha in this video, she is about 20 years old and previously a pulling horse with the Amish. With that being said, there is a 0.01% chance she has never been in a stock before so this just happens to be bad behavior and not wanting to. To the first comment, not all drafts are gentle and quiet. To the other comment, agreed. We don't laugh because we think it's "funny" we laugh because well, in Martha's case, we know she is just being a butthead so it's more of a "are you done yet" kind of laugh. We never laugh at the struggles of the horses but we have seen a lot and been through a lot of struggles so yes, you do tend to deal with it differently... hope this helps.
You're all such special people. I admire you so much! Your vet and farrier are wonderful. It always amazes me how much compassion and expertise that Paulie has, as does the new vet. I love y'all so much! Will always be your biggest fan! Much love to you.
I have to agree with Pauly on the call to put that draft into better pastures. I thought that right from the first time I saw him walk. As he matures even more, I'd be afraid of him breaking a leg or both should he get spooked and try to run. Having had many a broken bone, all three ankle bones on one side, I would not wish that kind of pain and painful recovery on anyone, animal or human!!!
I hope Pauly has his chiropractor on speed dial.. I mean my back went out from half an hour of light gardening, I can't even image what Pauly's back muscles must look like. His energy and stamina are impressive and I hope he won't get hurt or will get damaged from doing this. Love learning so much from all the close up video's with him and the vets/chiro. Thank you for showing that type of footage!
Oh boy Socrates 😂 I was pretty sure the whole stock will fall apart... And Martha too 😁🤭Hard times for Pauly!! But i'm happy he took Nicki Minaj home ❤
Can not express well how much respect I have for Pauly after watching your videos Heart of gold and such a hard worker with so much knowledge. Have never worked around drafts but it seems that work should be done to desensitize them to the stock before shoeing begins. Also wonder why there is no padding abound the areas on the stock where horses can bang their legs.
Understood but perhaps you could consider tying foam around the posts so that the pain that they feel when hitting them will diminish the fear that they feel being in the stock.@@PonyTalesRefuge
I especially like watching the videos of Pauline and his interactions with the horses, he tries so hard. Poor horses who have been so terribly treated. Shame on their previous owners.
I hope both Haley and Pauly heal quickly from their run ins with the naughty drafts! It's so sad about CJ but it's important to see the reality of neglect
The drafts are so beautiful. As usual I love watching Paulie clean their feet. Very satisfying for some weird reason. He’s a great teacher. Thank you so much for loving horses
That poor 2 yr old draft..his front foot was at a complete 90 ° angle when Pauly lifted his left foot to look..that is disgusting..the fact that he was bought at auction like that shouldn't be allowing sales of disabled horses.. l just don't understand why they don't do something about that..l know Tawnee and Jason are trying to get this done by their visits to DC to try and get this sort of thing stopped..but lawmaking is a slow process..l think its great that Pauly adopted Nicki Minaj..he'll be able to get her feet sorted more easily..and she's a sweetheart and of course he has a bogof as we say over here 🇬🇧..which is Buy one..get one free 😂 gosh those drafts were a nightmare..but as Pauly said they clearly had never been seen by a farrier to have to go in a stall..thats going to be a big learning curve for those two.. because they've got to be able to accept farrier work..now we know why they were sent to auction..absolutely no work done on them..god l thought Martha was going to get out of the stalls a few times..Nate will need to check their still bolted in..poor Pauly has a bad owee..tbh l thought he'd broken his thumb..that was right on the knuckle too..thats going to turn pretty colours..😮..great video..really loving the daily updates..great that the vet went and checked on the buteless painkiller for Nicki Minaj..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👏👍👏👍🐴🐎🐴🐎🌈💔🇺🇸
Thank you for showing the reality of hoof care on draft rescues! For ones than have not been well trained it can be difficult and sometimes dangerous to get them to be able to have their feet done.
God I love pauly. I would love a stable tour at his house. I am super happy Nicki is landing with him and his wife. I know she will have the best care. So disappointing about the 2 year old draft. I really hope the Tetricycline (sp?) and Selenium has some effect, even though it is usually used in foals. If it doesn't, he has been failed by previous owners, because he will have no quality of life, and the kindest thing will be to let him go where all the good horses go where there is no more pain and just endless meadows to run in.... if you believe it that sort of thing.
Oh you know it's bad when you really have to hold yourself close like Paulie did, poor guy. If only the Amish had taught these horses manners and introduced them to a stock instead of using them until they were no longer worth using
Amish consider their horses pieces of property the least amount of expence as possible when they don't work out for what they want them to do dump them at auction.
I make sure my laminitic prone horse has her liver detoxed everyday! There are so many treatments to prevent laminitis these days, no excuse! Tumeric is the best as it's natural! Lamiprev is excellent too!
I wonder if they make any of those hydraulic Contraptions like the guy on the hoof GP uses for cattle tell hydraulic they walk in and they get captured in this thing and the Hydraulics lift them and lifts their legs as you want them to it's amazing
it would need to be huge for those drafts. Agree, a crush might work, but then these nervous horses would probably still be tough. and making one for horses (much taller). might not be viable.
love what you all do.... my question does paul have a youtube?? how is cindy foot or ankle ouchies. so sorry it happen... my prayers all around who get hurt... hope we get to see the pictures of the new foal.. 🙏 ❤
This was a hard one for me to watch. My mare developed laminitis at the end of her pregnancy. She never recovered. I carry that with me every day. I miss her.
Been watching the videos as I just love horses and I see how much struggle Paul’s has with the big draft horses sometimes when doing their feet and the stock part with Martha gave me an idea. Would a ratchet winch system help out? Like rope the foot and ratchet it up rather than using your strength to try and lift em up?
I would think there's got to be a better contraption out there. Something mechanical like what they use for cattle? Bulls get to be pretty heavy and they still fit in the "crush"
@@tricky813 I saw a contraption recently where the animal is placed upright in a very sturdy crush and then the whole thing moves so that the animal is laying down, I think it was being used on some huge BULLS, so wonder if that would be the right stuff to have for these drafts and for any horse that won't stand for the farrier. I know, I know, it is always money and money is tight, but either stop rescuing these drafts and basically wild horses until you can get the right contraption to keep them , staff and vets and farriers safe. I know I am being harsh, but facts are facts and humans are more valuable than some of these animals for sure.
I found your channel not so long ago, so I've gone right back to 2 years ago and watched from that point and I'm now up to this point which is from 7 months ago! So I've nearly caught up 😅 I have commented on a couple of the videos then thought oh jeez this isn't even reason, so they must think I'm mad! So I'm sorry about that 😂 but I must say pauly has the patience of a sanit with some of theses horses, it's so sad to watch as some of them look petrified and think he's killing them! Which shows that where ever they have been before they have come to your shelter, they have obviously had a lot of bad experiences with a farrier and I bet alot of them have been wacked with a rasp for not standing or doing what they want in a hurry to get the job done! It's such a shame but pauly trys to make it the best experience he can for them without having to drug them all up as that's not the best for a long team solution is it? Plus I bet that would be very costly for you shelter having to do that every time they need there feet trimmed! But I suppose the more he does there hoofs the more it will come second nature and with that hopefully they come to understand what you want from them! It would be a hole lot better if they could talk! Lol but that isn't the case so you have to work with what you have! I cried over that poor 2 year old black percheron! That is the saddest thing I've seen for a long while, could I ask what did your vets say had caused this? Would it be that he's been worked to hard to young then when he's broke down they have discarded him like garbage and to become someone else problem? Could I please ask if you had him put to sleep and ended his suffering?
Poor Paulie. He must get exhausted after working on the draft horses. They are huge and the way they thrash around in the stock is frightening! And dangerous! I’m amazed he hasn’t been hurt before. I hope his hand heals quickly. ❤❤❤

Sometimes they cannot wait until they are good for their feet :/
Ya'll are amazing and wonderful! Polly! You are the best person/farrier ever!!!
Sure would be nice if folks with big horses taught them young about feet.
I want to thank Pauly for explaining the hows and whys of the foot
That poor 2 yr old draft..his front foot was at a complete 90 ° angle when Pauly lifted his left foot to look..that is disgusting..the fact that he was bought at auction like that shouldn't be allowing sales of disabled horses.. l just don't understand why they don't do something about that..l know Tawnee and Jason are trying to get this done by their visits to DC to try and get this sort of thing stopped..but lawmaking is a slow process..l think its great that Pauly adopted Nicki Minaj..he'll be able to get her feet sorted more easily..and she's a sweetheart and of course he has a bogof as we say over here 🇬🇧..which is Buy one..get one free
😂 gosh those drafts were a nightmare..but as Pauly said they clearly had never been seen by a farrier to have to go in a stall..thats going to be a big learning curve for those two.. because they've got to be able to accept farrier work..now we know why they were sent to auction..absolutely no work done on them..god l thought Martha was going to get out of the stalls a few times..Nate will need to check their still bolted in..poor Pauly has a bad owee..tbh l thought he'd broken his thumb..that was right on the knuckle too..thats going to turn pretty colours..😮..great video..really loving the daily updates..great that the vet went and checked on the buteless painkiller for Nicki Minaj..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👏👍👏👍🐴🐎🐴🐎🌈💔🇺🇸
Rae is so knowledgeable and getting more confident on camera so good 😊
😮
Thank you for showing the reality of hoof care on draft rescues! For ones than have not been well trained it can be difficult and sometimes dangerous to get them to be able to have their feet done.
Great job on all these extra videos, thank you. They’re very watchable and I hope you don’t have to do too much work editing them. ❤❤❤
Pauly you say what it is! 100%
Poor baby for the 2yrs old horse!😮
WTG Paulie 👍. Show the foal when born. I agree with you 100% regarding Appaloosas🍀🇺🇸
That was some serious weather changes in 2 days. Wild!
Watching the hoof go too 😂 I was thinking the same thing
it would need to be huge for those drafts. Agree, a crush might work, but then these nervous horses would probably still be tough. and making one for horses (much taller). might not be viable.
Well some of those bulls did they put a nose hydraulic crushes I'm sure are just as heavy as one of those big drafts that Paul is fighting with
Another Hoof GP fan! He's another caring farrier. You can tell he genuinely likes cows 🙂.
I love Hoof GP, he's such a sweet guy!
You will need a beer after trimming the drafthorses
YAYYYY PAULIE ❤ YOUR THE MAN ! 🐴
Poor Pauly , Martha won that round
love what you all do.... my question does paul have a youtube?? how is cindy foot or ankle ouchies. so sorry it happen... my prayers all around who get hurt... hope we get to see the pictures of the new foal.. 🙏 ❤
Love all your videos❤
Poor pauly i think he was allowed to curse🎉
This was a hard one for me to watch. My mare developed laminitis at the end of her pregnancy. She never recovered. I carry that with me every day. I miss her.
❤I've had good luck with hosing down lamonic feet with cool water 3x daily or more. Brings down the temp in feet.
Suprised vet never said. 😊
Hard to do that when the temps are below freezing. Definitely something that we've done in the warmer months though!
Not one swear word from ferrier. Amazing job ❤
Need to Bring a Wrangler BIG Dude with you to do those Giant Horses!😂
Been watching the videos as I just love horses and I see how much struggle Paul’s has with the big draft horses sometimes when doing their feet and the stock part with Martha gave me an idea. Would a ratchet winch system help out? Like rope the foot and ratchet it up rather than using your strength to try and lift em up?
I would think there's got to be a better contraption out there. Something mechanical like what they use for cattle? Bulls get to be pretty heavy and they still fit in the "crush"
We are hoping to try come kind of pully system to help with that, yes.
I always wonder why not give the horses in the stocks some treats or a lick?
Pauly got a workout during those drafts!
You guys are awesome and amazing. I am wondering how Kylie is making out in her new position in life?
Always amazes me when Pauly does those big horses. I love when he can clean those hooves.
Try therapeutic boots. My severely laminitic pony lived almost 3 more comfortable years after he got his cushy booties.
Curious, has Pauly ever used a grinder when trimming?
Yeah! Pauly took the pregnant lame pregnant mare home. Is his hand ok? I hope everything goes well for them.
Poor Paulie. He must get exhausted after working on the draft horses. They are huge and the way they thrash around in the stock is frightening! And dangerous! I’m amazed he hasn’t been hurt before. I hope his hand heals quickly. ❤❤❤
